She-ra Lost Hope

Morning, still waking up. Honestly feels awkward to meme vote at this point, but I'm also not sure what else to do.

Thanks for reminding me to get into Mafia some more. Have a vote.
No prob, that guy seems pretty sus

On one hand I don't want to stifle discussion on the other I think this is an unproductive line at this precise moment - I think it's great additional evidence but on it's own I think it's just going to be people posting wild ass takes.
I mean, is there anything wrong with an occasional wild-ass take? better utter nonsense than nothing at least (so long as it's fun nonsense :V )

Hm, do we want to go off lore and try and figure out what kinds of powers might come from there? or do we all want to avoid that like the plague after prospagnosia :lol2:

Exhibit A:

2. You will most likely not be able to setup-game or flavor-game effectively. Do so at your own risk and with my laughter.

Exhibit B is Prospagnosia, yes.

And C is just that if this is lower power madness anyway I'm not sure how useful speculation about the setup is really?

There are productive hot takes and unproductive hot takes. Both are entertaining but productive ones are still strictly better.
well here's a hot take for ya, you tell me if it's productive or not:

[x] Vote Boohoo the 3rd

Putting the sixth consecutive vote on someone an hour into day 1 when hammer is eight votes is already pretty bad; doing so half an hour after someone had explicitly pointed it out is worse. It is also, however, extremely funny. :V I think I know boohoo decently well, and I can totally see this just being her going along with a gag for funnies without thinking about it, but I can also totally see this being scum!her trying to rush things into a town elim before anyone notices. :V

@Boohoo the 3rd any thoughts?

@Boohoo the 3rd While you're here, any thoughts on the general game so far? Don't worry about being super detailed or useful or "right", I just want general impressions.

Effective Immediately @InterstellarHobo replaces @Draxy.
Do not discuss the circumstances of the replacement, this is grounds for a warning and if needed immediate removal from the game.

Try to keep your votes uncolored and normal sizes so vote count isn't awkward to look at XD

Day 1 Ends:
Hm, just realized - hey, esteemed dm, it might be better to sort these as Informational threadmarks rather than standard threadmarks? so they don't clog things up when you want to just go through day/night start posts

So a question for the ones who play here the first time, what is your experience with Mafia, or mafiaesk games so far?

Well I found the general thread a few months back, read the rules, found them interesting and checked a few ion the past mafia game threads in the index. Also saw a few YouTubers play Mafia. That basically sums up my experience with this game.

Also not sure who to vote for, I voted for Shalom because he started the chain basically, which I find Sus, but not sure anymore if its a good idea to vote someone.

Whats the general idea/agreement with voting someone on turn 1? On one hand, low chances of actually catching a mafia without any info, on the other hand, actually getting on suspects removal basically no?

newbie asks who to vote for take a shot

Essentially, in my experience the d1 chance of actually getting a maf on the yeet is not really appreciably above shooting randomly unless maf misplays pretty seriously, so actually getting maf immediately is not usually the primary goal today imo. Instead, we spend the day feeling the other players out, asking around and poking people, and generate interesting and potentially revealing content that can be reexamined later when new evidence arrives. Then at the end of the day, we vote out someone who seems sus enough and who has formed connections with other players through day play that may reveal things about those other players regardless of if the d1 yeet is town or scum. Does that make sense?

In practical terms: derp around, poke people, vote someone if you want to get them talking, unvote them when you think they've said enough for now, actually yeet someone whose death you think will give interesting info.

I honestly just voted because I genuinely have no idea what I am doing lol

Don't worry Boohoo I feel the same way. Its the first turn anyway, so not much to go on it seems.

Got it, thanks for the explanation.

The more that happens today in terms of actual pushes, the more people build patterns of evidence to use in the future. That is, the goal of D1 is (usually) about creating data and evidence.

It doesn't, imo, matter super much if you actually vote someone that much, but predeciding to stick with inaction means that you can write off anything you do do or just justify doing nothing or being a distraction, which is the antithesis of the goal.

Most anything today that happens, save, like, super obvious issues, putting the seventh vote on -Rosen and tagging someone else with "@NAME, HURRY" is pretty forgivable now, but, if, for example, someone claims to read that stacking as scummy now and then suddenly flips and calls it towny when another player that's voted similarly to them is on the chopping block...

You want, in a sense, to perform being a confused detective with no leads and no firm allies, especially if you actually have a power that gives you leads, especially especially if you're actually scum.

Hi, I'm here and I do things. Am working however so I'll read through thread when I'm home.

Huh. I was thinking with my Rosen vote about Cyricubed not being here. And now Cyricubed is here.

[X] Vote Cyricubed

Speaking of this, any particular reason why you're still on that wagon? :V

Clearly, if 6 people thought -Rosen was sus, there must be something there! Where there's smoke there's fire.

More seriously, there's no danger of a hammer. TBH, I didn't actually read the rules properly to realize hammer was a thing. By the time I noticed, the vote was down to what it is now, so, well, no real issue not changing and no clear suspicions yet. I can null, and with hammer that's not a bad idea entirely if getting a sane vote is the goal, but I don't think that last part is necessarily good.

That said, tbh, if someone did push hammer D1 to kill a vet in the first hour of posting, after the rules were clarified, it would probably lead to a very early town win imo. From that perspective, once it's clearly pointed out in thread, I think there's relatively little reason to change. Flirting with disaster strikes me as quite potentially productive in a way memes aren't.
