[X] An apprentice of the smith to take with you in your service for three years service

It's definatly the most fun decision.

One thing you guys might want to consider is what you want to say to Lina now that you are loose from the lands of the fey, like do you explain fey and strange dragon-kin walking around? Because it might make her either more likely to host you because you dealt with it, or less because that spear is trouble.

Can we say that even if the spear is trouble, we are going away soon so that will not be a problem? Or it won't fly?

On another note, is apprentice skilled enough to make a prosthetic for the hand Lina lost, and if yes, how much it will cost in terms of gold / other resources / time? To consider if we want to help her for goodwill / favors / payment in magic / knowledge.

  1. I mean sure but the standing offer was to stay here part or all of the year, it is going to impact that
  2. That will be in the next update

I apologize, it's probably because I missed some updates, but did we receive the offer to stay from Lina also?

I know we received offer of lordship from Aina still to be decided if we return to Korman sufficiently soon, in a season or two, for that it's obviously full disclosure. Though she already knows we are trouble, she was there for the talk with her great-grandmother when we talked of the coming darkness and great storm and how we are in the balance of that, and she was there when her daemon-tained distant kin of the long past revealed that daemons hunger for our bodies and has plots in action to take us.

Oh right I rolled that, but did not tell you before you went out... that too will be in the next update. You did help put her on the throne.

Well, Korman is just better, it's bigger (in fact the biggest island), has (or will have when things will return to normal) larger population, and we have better relationship with Aina, we helped her more and she considers us "a true friend in darkest times", not just someones who helped put her on the throne.

Though if it's something which will not impact our comings and goings and general plans, and more importantly chances with Aina, why not. Also with full disclosure, of course, so it will not bite us later if these things will come to light.

Arc 14 Post 57: The Rougher Edge
The Rougher Edge

Day of Rule, 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

The fire burns low in the cluttered shop as every gadget, every gear casts shadows in the fading light and in that darkness there is a light, not ruby red but blue like, bright and searing in the eye. It moves with the sound of hissing and moving pistons that would have been alien before your visit to the city of the Little Folk. Now it is merely unnerving... and then it is a touch more than that. The being that steps out to meet you with the clump of too heavy boots is as much black iron as flesh and the part of him that is flesh is stitched together like a child's doll, though no child would bear such a countenance without bursting into tears. It... he cracks his neck with the sound of metal scraping metal.

"So that's to be my fate then, for daring to dream of iron and not just brass and bronze?" Before you can reply to the complaint, for Ro does not seem of a mind to do so, he waves a gloved hand upon an arm of iron. "Oh, never you mind, I'm happy to go instead of drone-buzzing about fixing what was lost. No doubt it would come out as my fault in the end."

"Pleased to meet a fellow student of the world," Zaia says extending a hand, very deliberately bending his knees so that he would reach lower without seeming to try too hard.

"Hmm... an alchemist then, pleased to be making your acquaintance," the strange being speaks a little faster, as others of his breed you have met. "At least you are one to be trying to make new things, too many mortals have their heads screwed on the wrong way around, looking over their shoulders at the glorious ancestors. Feh... if they are so glorious why are they dead? I'm Mog by the way, Mog the Ironsmith."

His master, or you suppose now former master, coughs in clear doubt at the proclamation, though Mog does not seem to care, taking the old man's hand in his and then stomping out the door... where he almost gets kicked into the ground by Megin after he tries to ride on her. To be fair he is carrying bags almost larger than he is and clanking with metal that pretty much have to be carried by a horse if you are to make good time...

"Not all those who walk on four..." you break off, recalling Megin herself. "Not all those who walk on more than two legs are beasts."

"Yeah, yeah," Mog waves the matter off, picking non-existent dust off the leather of his right glove. "So, who is going to carry this?" he lifts up the bags with wry strength not wholly his own.

"What do you need that for?" Esha ask carefully.

"My own work," the little gremlin speaks slowly as if addressing a child. "Now..." Unfortunately for him you will never find out now what as something inside one of the bags flashes with the same cracking blue light as his eye lashes out and strikes Tom in the chest, shrouding him in a veil of its power.

"Fuck!" Tom slurs the curse as he forces his lips to move.

"Numbing power, how fascinating," Esha's tone is now as sharp as the gremlin smith's, as one speaking of a particularly clever toy.

"Is there a problem?" you ask worry and anger in your voice as in your mind. The damn thing had hit Tom.

"None that you won't find worse in a thousand other places," Mog scoffs even as Esha shakes her head with a smile.

"I suspect our new companion thinks my way of using power without proxy or mechanism is primitive and wasteful. I would counter that I never unintentionally hit someone with a numbing spell."

At that Mog clicks his teeth so violently together you are half concerned that he bit his tongue off. "Let's just do the binding and be off."

What do you do?

OOC: Meet Mog the Imjarvi Gremlin smith. For the record, Roland does not know anything about the types of gremlin so it's not in the update, but Esha rolled high enough to know what manner of being he is.

Wow...that is not a Bulabar... o_O

That's not necessarily a bad thing, however, since an Imjarvi comes with some really great perks of its own. Is it Chaotic Evil, @DragonParadox? That's my greatest concern.

A Chaotic Neutral Gremlin probably isn't going to be particularly receptive to the "set down the law" approach. At the same time, however, it doesn't make sense to ignore his surly behavior. Now's as good a time as any to try to set him straight.

[X] Try to smooth things over
-[X] Remind Mog that he's going to be with us for a while and that his time in our service need not be an unpleasant burden. A modicum of respect for those who will be his companions in the coming years could go a long way toward making his stay more comfortable and productive. That includes taking care that his devices do not spontaneously activate and injure or inconvenience others, or, if this is impossible, that they are kept to his workshop which will be off-limits to most, and that any unique equipment / books we would provide him if he would find them useful, won't be damaged / destroyed.
--[X] Explain that we certainly won't discourage his working with iron, as such was commonplace in our homeland, and that we would be willing to provide funding for his projects in exchange for helping us with our own and sharing his knowledge with those who are interested.
---[X] If Roland deems Mog receptive to further instruction, ask that he keep us apprised of projects he is working on in his off time. We need to know if and when dangerous or volatile experiments or crafting is going to be conducted to insure everyone's safety, and the safety of our goods and property. If now isn't a good time, Roland will do so as soon as possible.
----[X] Before we reach port and board Marcella, Roland will firmly inform Mog that he is not to carry out any experiment or work on any project while on board Marcella that could potentially damage the vessel or anything aboard her without express permission from Antonio. If Antonio is unavailable for some reason, he may instead get permission from Roland, Zaia, or Esha.

Well, we have another mad scientist.

[X] Goldfish

@Goldfish maybe add importance of letting us know what he is working on most of the time so he doesn't accidently blow anyone up or something? Zaia can help keep an eye/work with him to not do anything too crazy back home since likely will be working with one another.
