Buffy the Vampire Slayer Take Two

[X]Ask Giles to teach you how to recognize disguised non humans

Knowing Xanders dating history, this is a vital skill to learn.

Then again, also knowing Xanders dating history, knowing they're demons might not help avoid dating them …

Just Friends
You go and talk to Giles about help to recognize non humans and other things that might want to eat you. Giles is sympathetic about it after the experience. He tries to give you some tips for it, but you really only come away with watching for people who don't conform to social norms and anyone walking alone at night. Not great advice. You've been both of those one too many times. Maybe you could ask for a review on recognizing non humans again. Being picked as prey for Miss French was freaky enough that you're willing to try and put in the extra effort, even if your brain does feel like it's swimming while Giles teaches.

Buffy got a date with this guy named Owen. As far as you can tell he's nothing special, just a guy, but Willow and Buffy are being completely giggly over him. It hurts somewhat to see Buffy being so excited to date the guy, but you decided to be friends with her. Being sour about her dating someone was stupid, even if you wanted to be the one she picked. You hoped Buffy didn't know you had a crush on her, and you did your best to be supportive along with Willow as she prepped for the date. You even volunteered to go along with Giles when vampires threatened to interrupt her date. You cared for Buffy, she deserved time to enjoy herself.

The vampires that attacked were ridiculously strong. Buffy's date was sadly crashed, though Owen did somehow end up coming along to Buffy rescuing you and Giles from the vampires. Owen's eagerness about the danger Buffy was so eager to ignore in her life cooled her jets. If seeing her go on a date with Owen hurt, seeing her so badly hurt by the thought that Owen was more attracted to the Slayer than her hurt even worse. You had to do something to cheer her up.

[X]Watch movies at Amy's place

I want Xander to participate because we've passed up several chances for him to goof off and relax. I don't regret it, but I've been worried that there would be a backlash at some point. I'm going for movies instead of ice cream because I'm not sure how much spare cash Xander and Amy have.

Pack Instinct
You set up a movie night at Amy's place with everyone to cheer Buffy up from her failed date. Perhaps not the best decision you had made. Oh, it worked for cheering Buffy up. In that sense it did exactly what you wanted it to. The real problem was they'd decided to watch romcoms all night. Some of it was funny, but it was mostly not your cup of tea. Well, the girls enjoyed it, and that was what mattered. The popcorn had been good too. Everyone was in a good mood back in school, Buffy seemingly having moved on from her brief crush.

Time came for the yearly zoo field trip, which was as always a fantastic day spent outside away from school and any of that. Buffy wasn't quite in the spirit, but it only took a nudge from you for her to realize the true beauty of the day away from class, homework, and all that other stuff. You even stepped in when Kyle and his buds started pushing in on Lance so Buffy wouldn't have to.

You did feel energized after that field trip. Really energized. Willow was being annoyingly clingy, but she was all that was left of your original group, so you tolerated it the best you could. Buffy, on the other hand, continued to impress you with her sheer grace. She was a leader in her own right, there was no doubt about that.

You were a leader too, of course. And that was a problem. There can only be one leader. You could ditch Willow, and turn to run with your other group. You could feel a tug towards Kyle and the others, knew they would understand you in a way Willow and Buffy didn't. You craved that understanding and connection, that easy movement. It would be easy, and you would be respected. But you had chosen Willow and Buffy previously, even if Buffy's presence chaffed at you.
