Perhaps put in hard figures as well?]

Saying 'there are too many of us' is all well and good, but instead explaining how many warriors sailed against a supernatural threat, and how fast human generations go by compared to them, would be a somewhat more grounded argument.

I thought about that, but it seems a bit too obvious to waste words telling them something they should already be aware of. Even if they don't understand the cultural or political landscape among the Anwari islands or Humanity in general, they should at least have come to know how quickly Humans breed and mature.

As for the exact numbers who sailed to Korman, we'll need @DragonParadox to answer that one first.

There are thousands of armed people in the city, the precise numbers on the fleet are not going to have that much of an impact at this point. What matters is how many armed humans are willing to defend the city from what seems to be a campaign t sow terror, though one that has spilled very little blood directly.

@Goldfish
Lina said the same, in fewer words.

Not seeing what this should achieve.
I don't think it was the same thing, though. Her statement seemed to imply that the people of Lirman would fight back. My angle is that it doesn't matter if they kill everyone on Lirman, the Fey will never know peace because the Anwari from other islands will not leave Lirman alone. They'll keep coming in sufficient numbers that the Fey will eventually be overwhelmed, and then they won't even have the semblance of balance they've enjoyed for the past centuries, where they have been able to live alongside Humanity with relatively little friction.

  • [X] Ask the gathered Fey what they hope to accomplish by driving out those who have settled on Lirman and lived here for untold generations? Do they expect that to be the end of their dealings with Humanity, that when the last man departs or is slain that no others will return? For that matter, are they so confident in being able to defeat thousands of desperate Humans who live on Lirman currently? Men and women who will fight with everything they have because to do otherwise means death?
-[X] The only reason the Fey have this opportunity, beyond the machinations of Lina's mother serving as a final catalyst to bring about this disaster, was that the warriors of Lirman united with their fellow Anwari from many different nearby islands to put down an inhuman threat, the Anjo-oru, who had taken power for themselves on Korman, displacing the ruling line there. Many warriors died to accomplish their goals, but in the end they triumphed, and that is when you (the Fey and the spirits) struck, when they were distracted and temporarily weakened.
--[X] Humans are individually unpredictable and dreadfully inconsistent, but as a group their behavior is fairly easy to forecast, and in this case, the possibility that men won't return to Lirman in the coming seasons or years is laughably minute. They will come with bronze and cold iron, with fire and magic, and they will keep coming because they will see in Lirman a prize for the taking and an easily identified enemy who stole it from their fellows. They will not care that it was originally your land centuries past, because that is their nature.
---[X] They'll keep coming, year after year, until finally you are ground down beneath their boots. Is that what you want here, a short-lived victory followed by one grinding, bloody conflict after another?

Arc 14 Post 29: The Lady Fair
The Lady Fair

Thirty Sixth Day of Elnu-Hamba (Elnu Descendent), 1349 A. L. (After Landfall)

The tale of conquest is old as the hills, before the Norman came the Saxon had ruled in England, who had thrown the heathen Norsemen into the sea... but before even he had been the Roman whose ruins white as bone still rises from wooded hills and before him the Bryton, those stubborn folk who still dwell in the western lands. Who did the speartips belong to that farmers still turn over with their plows? What wars had they been borne in before they lay down in the dirt to be found by careless strangers?

"What do you think will happen once your will here is done? That when you will have driven the last man into the sea no others will come, for vengeance, for land, for the future of their children and the graves of their fathers?" your words ring out not with anger, to your surprise not even with defiance, but with sorrow. "Lo, this i your hour and perhaps in this place and in this moment you can prevail by the machinations of the bitter sea, but what shall be when other kindreds of the Anwa come to this island with fire and sword as they have brought to the shores of Korman?"

Anger grows in the shadows like the whispers of growing flames, like the rustle of the wind though dead grass, but none speak, even the mortal watchers spellbound... or mayhap shocked still at the news that their young king might yet live. You send a quick prayer not for a tongue of silver, but of fire for only such light would keep war from the door this late in the day .

"A man alone will act by his own judgement and yo you we may seem dreadfully fickle, but take many of us together under a king or banner and it does not take a prophet to judge what we shall seek. You come here with spells and dread and powers arcane, to you I say beware, not be me and mine for we are strangers here, but of all those whom the tide will bring."

"She... she will keep them away, you cannot travel over the unshackled seas..." one of the spirits jeers, though voice and shadow alive shake in the speaking.

"You count upon a liar and s cheat to keep you safe in times of peril," Lina's voice is faint and far away, but you would swear than in her eyes shine tears. Not born of smoke or even pain of a lost arm those... "I will make a new bargain, a batter bargain, sealed in blood and oaths to be a true friend to those who are friends of ours and foes to those who lie... be they by words clear spoken or in cunning guise. If you wish for honor for truth then do not seek it in splitting meanings and sculpting words. My mother said that I was fated for life unbending at her side, that the blood in my veins would compel it as the warblers come in the spring to make their nests, but if I must be spirit than it will not be at the right of her throne, another prize that he had claimed from the shore, like a bauble shining in the sand. As by brother shall be returned to the throne of our gonefathers so I shall be beside him and his sons and their sons after them to advise in matter of spirits and be sure that your voice is never silenced by the clenched fist of a conqueror. This I vow to try to be best of my powers. More I cannot do."

And with that Lina Osane bows her head, he pride of the line of kings humbled. For a moment you fear that the fey of dark and wild places should take the chance t strike like wolves on a wounded doe or even that those who had taken to her cause should not renege it at the show of weakness.

Yet nothing of that happens, there is no battle and no bloodshed... the fey fade back into the shadows saying neither yeah nor nay... and the way to the king's hall is open, though it had been paid with a mighty oath.

What does Roland think of the vow that Lina made?

[] It is a noble one and you shall do what you can to help her fulfill it

[] It was a foolish thing, you would rather draw the Fellowship from this place now so that you can return to Orinilu without the sea turning against you

OOC: And here we are, what might be the last significant vote of the arc, it has bee a while, but hopefully it has some weight.

Welp. Looks like we may not have wanted this, but unless we want an angry/insane Oceanid harrying us every time we are at sea, we have a king to save.

I wonder how the boy king is going to feel after everything that's happened?

We should have left when we could. The Oceanid is very likely to want our head now no matter what we do
It's possible; she's a crazy, duplicitous bitch of a Fey. I worry that's she's also a vindictive and spiteful creature, too.

But the only reason her daughter lives is because of our intervention. Not once or twice, but at least on three separate occasions just in the past, what, hour of IC time? We've literally done everything within our power to help her succeed here, and it's probably only through the Oceanid's own meddling that Lina wasn't able to take power much more smoothly due to Fey and spirits shenanigans.

Yeah, Lina was able to persevere despite her mother's actions.

As for staying to help Lina fulfill her oath, I haven't the slightest interest in that. I couldn't be more done with Lirman, Lina, Apuku, or anything else here if the island sunk into the sea, never to be seen again. It's just one threat to overcome or unexpected obligation after another with these people.

[X] Lina's oath and intentions are noble. She appears to be sincerely willing to set aside her own ambitions for the good of her people, to prevent greater bloodshed in a needless fight against the island's Fey population.
-[X] You wish her the best of luck on that path, for it won't be an easy one to walk. Perhaps she and Ohun will be able to recover her brother safely, or even convince her mother to part with him without a fight, but you want no part in that struggle. You have other obligations and responsibilities, to yourself, to your men, and to those who have placed their trust in you as a leader, an ally, or a friend.
--[X] We will help her settle matters here on the island with the traitors and secure her position of leadership before we depart.

I will see you all after...

Well, after this thing has bloated to twice its current size, I guess.

Familiar territory, at least.

Is there a summary for what I missed? >.>
It's basicly the same story as in ASWAH: a silver-tongued merchant travels around the world accompanied with sir knight, small wild girl with magic, dhampir and friendly aberration. Global plot tells about rising of dragons in a low-magic world. :V

[X] Goldfish

I am also not very interested in Lirman plot besides fulfilling allied obligations. But, @Goldfish , we have to retrieve the spear!
