Buffy the Vampire Slayer Take Two

Leaving Amy alone without any support sounds like a bad idea, but I'm not sure how trying to be roommates would work out. How would Xander pay his share of the bills? I'm going to try for a write-in.

[X]Write-in: Let Amy know that she can talk to you and your friends if she needs to, and then let her decide if she needs to.
[x]Keep working on self defense with Giles

I'm not really sure which action to go for. Goofing off lets Xander decompress, but my impression from fanfiction is that he goofs off a bit too much, often because he's not sure how to help out while the others are working. Finding out about other possible threats lets Xander watch out for them, but the description says that he'd be pushing Giles for the information, and he might end up hypervigilant and stressed instead. I guess I'll go for self defense so that maybe next time he can escape when a regular human attacks him.

[x]Talk to Amy about her living situation, see if you could maybe be roommates, as awkward as that might be

Lets mix things up, and forge connections with oter people who might be into magic as teens, so they can join the gang. Many hands make... bigger magicks?

[X]Push Giles to tell you what other threats could be out there

This fits broadening Xander's horizons, and he has a good reason to be pushing Giles about this now, and he seems to be having a bit of difficulty with basic physical combat. An update's switch from self defence to this might help avoid Giles pigeonholing Xander (more than he might be)

Substitute
Going up to talk to Amy is far harder than it should be. Every time you see her you find yourself finding other things to do. School, homework, talking to Willow and Buffy about the latest stuff. You only managed to get yourself to talk to Amy when you realized you'd been considering asking her to go to the Bronze instead of actually talking to her about what you wanted to.

The conversation with her was stilted and awkward. Amy was doing alright in her new place, but was clearly feeling as awkward about the situation as you were. She seemed to be doing better, if still withdrawn on herself. You talked for a few minutes before managing to ask her about how she was paying for the place, and how she would feel about a possible roommate. Amy was surprised by your question. You tried to smooth it over, but you're really not sure how well it went. And now you're wondering if this was a good idea at all, considering she's a girl and you're a guy. Sure, she's not a bad looking girl. Sharing a place could be awkward though.

You do your best to brush over it by suggesting that you, Willow, and Buffy could use a hangout place and could chip in to help pay. That relieved Amy somewhat and helped smooth it all over. So now you had a hangout off school property. Not what you had been going for, but it was a better result than you could have hoped for from that awkward conversation. And hey, a private hang place was nothing to sneeze at.

You did better practicing self defense this week without the distractions from previous. It helped that you got to watch Buffy train at the same time when she occasionally came in. She didn't train nearly as often as you did, but she was popping in at least once a week to do a short bit of training with Giles. You liked to think it got you closer to wowing Buffy by fighting alongside her. Being her big hero was certainly something that featured regularly in your dreams, along with some other more explicit stuff.

You went to the Bronze with Amy, Buffy, and Willow, and caught a glimpse of Angel. He was not what you'd expected. He was older, for one. And looked exactly like the kind of guy you wanted to be. Buffy certainly seemed to be having a great time, even with how short that conversation was. Apparently he was there to deliver another cryptic warning. You would have to check on your stakes. You wondered if the cheap plastic cross you'd picked up would still work to ward off vampires.

On the bright side, you got a new substitute teacher who was smoking hot, and more than happy to accept you as a volunteer in helping to set up for the science fair. Extra credit, and a chance to be around a hot woman who seemed to really see you. On the down side, she would probably be substituting for longer than she'd expected with the science teacher found beheaded. You really wished you could get the image of the headless body in the fridge out of your mind. Poor Buffy was even more upset. The science teacher had actually believed she wasn't a delinquent, and now she'd lost one more advocate among the staff. If you hadn't lost the support of all the staff years ago you'd really feel for her. As it was you didn't have the slightest clue about what to do. The body being stuck on your mind didn't help.

At least Miss French is great. She's really helping you in class, and when you see her after school she invites you to her place to work with the paper mache she has there. Your mind can't help but linger on how sticky working like that could get. How you could move together, if you had to take a shower to wash off, helping Miss French wash...

Buffy catches up to you outside with some wild story that Miss French is a gross bug. She really doesn't seem to grasp that this is your chance. You could lose your virginity. Or just get extra credit while ogling her. But. You do like Buffy, and she does seem to not want you to be with Miss French. Is this an opening?

Huh. I'm really not sure what to go for here. Both options are in character, and both options are bad ideas. While I could try a write-in, having Xander suddenly realize that Buffy is correct about Miss French feels wrong.

On another note, I'm glad that the Scooby Gang is going to spend more time with Amy. :) I was worried about her being alone, but I couldn't figure out how Xander could afford to pay for his share, and it felt awkward to ask.

I think I've come up with a write-in that's in-character while being SLIGHTLY less of a bad idea, though not much less.

[X]Write-in: Tell Buffy that you'll scout out the situation with Miss French and let her know about any evil plots going on. You're sure nothing's going on, but pretending to take Buffy seriously will make her like you more, right? Also, a chance to lose your virginity while possibly making Buffy jealous? Score!

Agreed: just ignoring Buffy's opinion regarding spooky stuff is not only a dick move, it's also counterproductive towards the whole 'surviving' thing we've been working towards.

I'll go with it. It captures Xander's personality here.

She-Mantis
You nod your head obligingly at Buffy. "Ok, alright, I hear what you're saying. She's possibly not human. It's a good thing I already have an in with her then, isn't it?" You really thought that Buffy was seeing something that wasn't there, but it was better to go along with it than to just brush it off. If anything was going on, you could be a hero sounding the alert. If not, you had a very exciting evening to look forward to. Buffy looked a little frustrated by your response, but you gave Buffy the address and promised to get back to her an hour after seeing Miss French to let her know what was up. That should be long enough for you to get together with Miss French, right?

You go home and spend a fair amount of time trying to pick out an outfit that you think will be casual for a study date, yet sexy enough in case things get intimate. Do you look cool enough? Suave? Mature? Waiting for the right time to head over to her house is agonizing. When you do get there you can feel the blood rushing right through you when you take in Miss French in the extremely sexy dress she's wearing. She was talking, but you are really lucky that it wasn't anything too complicated. You were far too busy staring at her chest to think about anything. Wait, was there someone crying? You drank the glass Miss French had given you feeling faintly distracted.

>>>>

Buffy had been absolutely right. She was right, and you were really hoping that Buffy didn't wait the whole hour you'd asked for before storming in to save your butt. Miss French was now a giant preying mantis, and you were in a cage with one of the jocks from school. One that had consistently mocked you too, so that was great. You had really needed being potentially eaten by a monster to be more awkward. Blayne kept begging you to get him out of there. How he thought you were going to do that when you were also in a cage, well. It's not like the guy had been bright even before being terrified out of his mind.

The fact that Miss French did in fact want to mate with you to fertilize her eggs was possibly the worst news you could have received in this situation. A small part of you did still want that, but it was drowned out by the rest of you screaming in sheer horror and distaste at the idea. Yes you liked ladies. No, you did not want a giant bug anywhere near your parts, not to help fertilize her eggs, and especially not when it included losing your head. You started working on how to survive this and get out of there. You tested the bars and found the ones separating you and Blayne looser than the rest. That would give you a weapon at least. You unscrewed it and carefully tucked it down. You'd need all the luck you could get when the mantis came for you.

You don't know how long you waited for her to come open the cage. A few minutes? An hour? It felt like you waited forever. When she did open it you grabbed the bar and swung as hard as you could into one of her large insectoid eyes. She shrieked in pain and slashed out at you. You retreated further into the cage prepared to hit her again.

Luckily you didn't have to. Buffy came swinging in, and took the mantis apart with a cleavor. Very hot, and you were going to make sure to give Buffy all the respect she deserved for dealing with that threat. You did kinda wish you hadn't been told the mantis only preyed on virgins, but it did give you a bit of a hold over Blayne if he decided to try and start something again. For the most part you were just relieved to get out and be back with your friends again. You really needed to not think so hard with your little head, it had walked you right into trouble. You should have realized something was off about a teacher approaching you like that in the first place, really. Why it hadn't set any alarms off in your head was a puzzle.

Huh, I'm still not sure why asking Buffy out was one of the options last time. I was hoping this update would clear things up.

[X]Ask Giles to teach you how to recognize disguised non humans

Xander did better against the bug lady than he did against Amy's mom so I'm willing to take a break from self defense to get more knowledge about how to recognize threats. Hopefully, this won't be all book learning. Maybe Giles will take the opportunity to teach Buffy at the same time?

The answer is pheromones. Xander was heavily enough swamped in them to not question things that he should have and be acting more on sexual impulses
