Going up to talk to Amy is far harder than it should be. Every time you see her you find yourself finding other things to do. School, homework, talking to Willow and Buffy about the latest stuff. You only managed to get yourself to talk to Amy when you realized you'd been considering asking her to go to the Bronze instead of actually talking to her about what you wanted to.
The conversation with her was stilted and awkward. Amy was doing alright in her new place, but was clearly feeling as awkward about the situation as you were. She seemed to be doing better, if still withdrawn on herself. You talked for a few minutes before managing to ask her about how she was paying for the place, and how she would feel about a possible roommate. Amy was surprised by your question. You tried to smooth it over, but you're really not sure how well it went. And now you're wondering if this was a good idea at all, considering she's a girl and you're a guy. Sure, she's not a bad looking girl. Sharing a place could be awkward though.
You do your best to brush over it by suggesting that you, Willow, and Buffy could use a hangout place and could chip in to help pay. That relieved Amy somewhat and helped smooth it all over. So now you had a hangout off school property. Not what you had been going for, but it was a better result than you could have hoped for from that awkward conversation. And hey, a private hang place was nothing to sneeze at.
You did better practicing self defense this week without the distractions from previous. It helped that you got to watch Buffy train at the same time when she occasionally came in. She didn't train nearly as often as you did, but she was popping in at least once a week to do a short bit of training with Giles. You liked to think it got you closer to wowing Buffy by fighting alongside her. Being her big hero was certainly something that featured regularly in your dreams, along with some other more explicit stuff.
You went to the Bronze with Amy, Buffy, and Willow, and caught a glimpse of Angel. He was not what you'd expected. He was older, for one. And looked exactly like the kind of guy you wanted to be. Buffy certainly seemed to be having a great time, even with how short that conversation was. Apparently he was there to deliver another cryptic warning. You would have to check on your stakes. You wondered if the cheap plastic cross you'd picked up would still work to ward off vampires.
On the bright side, you got a new substitute teacher who was smoking hot, and more than happy to accept you as a volunteer in helping to set up for the science fair. Extra credit, and a chance to be around a hot woman who seemed to really see you. On the down side, she would probably be substituting for longer than she'd expected with the science teacher found beheaded. You really wished you could get the image of the headless body in the fridge out of your mind. Poor Buffy was even more upset. The science teacher had actually believed she wasn't a delinquent, and now she'd lost one more advocate among the staff. If you hadn't lost the support of all the staff years ago you'd really feel for her. As it was you didn't have the slightest clue about what to do. The body being stuck on your mind didn't help.
At least Miss French is great. She's really helping you in class, and when you see her after school she invites you to her place to work with the paper mache she has there. Your mind can't help but linger on how sticky working like that could get. How you could move together, if you had to take a shower to wash off, helping Miss French wash...
Buffy catches up to you outside with some wild story that Miss French is a gross bug. She really doesn't seem to grasp that this is your chance. You could lose your virginity. Or just get extra credit while ogling her. But. You do like Buffy, and she does seem to not want you to be with Miss French. Is this an opening?
