Bulwark Against The Terror (Warhammer 40k Chapter Master Quest)

[X] You will honour Armageddon's defenders, and their wargear shall serve once more in her defence. You will agree to Talamacchius' proposal.

In a perfect galaxy, yeah, honor would be its own reward, but it's not and we actually could use the gear. Termies especially are not easily sourced and we're going to need everything we can get for when Ghazghul swings back for another go. Also, it was Talamacchius' idea so I'm a lot more comfortable using this stuff than I otherwise would be.

Dunno if anything has asked yet but what gear could we recover?

In the meantime, anyone have any bright ideas for how we might secure the water pumping network? Maybe we can burn a set of favors from the techpriests or use our forges for a really good desalinization/treatment plant that can handle the nasty oceans? There's always just reinforcing the network with PDF guardposts and such, but that's also stretching our forces thinner.

N'varr estimated as follows:
You'd seen Corvus-pattern power armour, various weapons and vehicles, even several suits of Terminator Armour. You couldn't say for sure how much of it could be repaired until the Techmarines had taken a thorough look at it, but you could tell a decent chunk would be. Astartes wargear was built to last.
But N'Varr is not a Techmarine, and also not the kind of man who'd tell Talamacchius to wait while he tallies exactly what he'll be getting in the deal on a spreadsheet before saying yes or no.

He's still a Space Marine, not a mercenary.

So I'm new here and just a question, why are Scouts becoming Scout Sergeantw? Shouldn't that role be filled by experienced Space Marines?
There is nobody more experienced available, the Steel Dragons were only founded just a couple of years ago.

The Chapter started out with 500 newly minted Space Marines, fully trained but without combat experience. To supplement that, a couple of veteran personnel transferred from the Salamanders who took up command and specialist positions like Chapter Master, Captains, Techmarines, Apothecaries, etc. But not enough to fill up Sergeant slots (there was an option for that during Chapter creation, but the Quest voted for other things) so the Steel Dragons were forced to promote the most promising of the new recruits.

To acquire Scout Sergeants, the Master of Recruits found himself ten Marines with a talent for stealth operations and subterfuge, and took them on a dangerous multi-year reconnaissance mission into the Ork-infested jungles of Armageddon. Those that survived would have proven themselves and acquired the necessary experience/skillset to act as Scout Sergeants, and would be promoted as such.

These Scouts are what that was referring to. The Steel Dragons haven't actually recruited any new Marines yet, because they've been busy estabilishing themselves, teaching the Armageddon-born Marines the ways of the Salamanders, and getting the personnel ready to actually train these new Scouts properly.

Rehauling the water treatment system on a planetary scale would be a pretty massive project. Doable, but it would require a lot of effort on your part, or big favors with the Mechanicus/Administratum.

Fair enough. It still seems like a decent idea for a long-term investment in the planet's health, since the current system is pretty flawed. Of course, I suppose water treatment plants would be a different form of vulnerability - one that might be easier to secure than thousands of miles of pipe, though. 🤔

"I would rather see it serve the Emperor again, in defence of the world my brothers died for." Let's honour the wish of the Twilight Crows' last survivor.

@Blackout How badly damaged or injured is Talamacchius? Is there any chance we could persuade him that, once he's escorted the relics to Deliverance, he can come back to Armageddon and fight alongside us, the last of the Twilight Crows continuing the duty of his brothers?

Another option would be to look into trying to mitigate the pollution issue, since that's what's causing the water shortage.

He's wounded but he'll live, and there'll be an option to repair his Dreadnought chassis next turn. As for him staying, this was discussed last page and it's generally considered really poor form to outright ask "orphaned" marines to join you. It's a possibility, but trying to push him into that decision will very likely backfire.

Ahh, interesting. I was assuming it was natural toxicity. That makes sense. Of course, "eco-friendly" and "hive cities" probably don't go well together.

Maybe we can just improve the recycling capabilities to give them more wiggle room?

I genuinely don't see why we wouldn't honor their sacrifice.

Likewise we should certainly invest in Armageddon. It's one of the most secure worlds once we help it back on its feet.

[X] Honour is its own reward. You will agree to bring the Twilight Crows relics and geneseed to Deliverance, but refuse the offer of salvage.

This is a deal offered in good faith, and we will ensure the works of the emperor continue to serve his will.

voting's still open, even if it won't change anything.

And I'm happy to have found that quest and be able to participate
