Age of Ice and Blood: A Pathfinder System Heroic Fantasy Quest

I know material components are flavor text that we don't need to track, I know a caster's spell component pouch is an abstraction that's assumed to carry as many components as necessary... but I'm still giggling at the mental image of Esha carrying around dozens of tiny shovels. Who makes all these tiny shovels? Is there a toymaker who suddenly got very busy?

Given that we are in the bronze age and most people still use stone tools for mundane tasks like that, I'd say 'stick with slightly flat stone on the end' counts as miniature shovel in this setting.

You did, that will make the smithy 50% less expensive, one moment.
Looks like you added the equipment modifier to the stables instead of the smithy.

Speaking of the stables, they seem very expensive at 1,000 gold per space. I know that's from the guide book, but I didn't think stalls for six horses would be so expensive?

Also, you left out the cost for courtyard spaces. Was that intentional? It would be nice not to need to pay 500 gold for 400 square feet of empty space.

  1. Stables is I think reasonably balanced given that you need to fit horses in there and they are big animals witch have to be kept comfortable and warm in the winter
  2. The courtyard is free (in the sense that it is a wide area with grass growing on it), though if you also want it to be good for training you have to pay for the training area.

Smithy, Basic
Prerequisites: One smith
Applicable Modifiers:
+10% (high cost of bronze, including tools required for smiting)
-50% (Masterwork Equipment)
Do we even have a blacksmith for a smithy though? Most smiths here probably lack the expertise for working iron or steel, and I'm inclined to doubt that we would have had a properly trained smith aboard the Marcella when the Event occurred.
We sure as hell don't have the infrastructure to really even smelt iron, let alone to make steel for new weapons and armor, so we're pretty much stuck with the iron and steel that we have…
Also, smithing, not smiting, unless someone's becoming a Paladin?
didn't we get Masterwork metalworking tools from Ipsit, or am I remembering that incorrectly?
Those are probably designed for working bronze, not iron or steel.
Would they even be usable for working harder metals like that?
but I'm still giggling at the mental image of Esha carrying around dozens of tiny shovels.
Since it doesn't seem to be marked as something that would be consumed, she may only need the one.

At 22,494 gold, this is way more than I was hoping to pay, but there aren't really many spaces we could trim out to save much.

Right now, I would say we could do without the Smithy (250 gold), the indoor training area (1000 gold), the Common Area (500 gold), and one set of bedrooms (700 gold). If I remove those from the plan, it would reduce the cost by 2,450 gold, or 2,817.5 after modifiers.

[X] Wayfarer's Respite Building Plan
-[X] Wooden Walls & Moat: Cost: 1,920 gold (20 SS x 160 gold x 0.6; ratio of outer vs inner walls of a 20 space stronghold)
-[X] Outbuildings/Open Space:
--[X] Alchemist's Lab (x1 space): 350 gold
--[X] Courtyard: x3 (x3 spaces, upgraded to be suitable for training): 750 gold
--[X] Dock (x1 space; doesn't count against 20 space limit?): 500 gold
--[X] Guard Posts: x2 (x1 space): 600 gold
--[X] Smithy (x1 space): 250 gold
--[X] Stable (x4 spaces; room for 24 horses): 4,000 gold

--[X] Common Area (x1 space) 500 gold

--[X] Study/Office: x2 (x1 space): 200 gold
-[X] Total: 19,560 gold

Incidentally if you really want to cut back on the price you can cut down on the dining hall or the common room, both can do the job of the other with varying ability. They will not looks good but they will do the job,

So... millennia later, we'll have archeologist fighting developers over expanding to the old parts of Whaferspit, the oldest city in the world?

What sparked the entire argument? A dug up artifact of immense archeological importance:

A tiny shovel.

Here's a reduced cost version of the plan with some stuff removed.

Removed the Common Area and indoor training area, and one set of bedrooms. The Smithy is still there as an outbuilding, but in the absence of someone to use it, it's just an our building used for storage for now. It'll be a lot easier to convert an outbuilding into a Smithy rather than trying to add one later, especially if space isn't available.

The upstairs storage room is also slated to potentially be upgraded as a bedroom in the future if needed.

This reduces the final cost to 20,194 gold.

Hmmm.

There is an unseen boon from the library. It keeps the researchers in our base instead of the city.

Yes, while Inge and Zaia between them can easily heal injury illness is still beyond them, as indeed it is beyond all but masters in the craft since it is a level 3 spell which is as high as normal spellcraft goes in the setting. It wold grant a bonus to rolls against illness and poison that stacks with the one from a skilled healer.
I can change a storage room to be an infirmary if Zaia thinks it worthwhile?

What sort of accommodations do the Otter-kin prefer?

We don't really have enough books to justify a library, though.

@DragonParadox, my plan has a double-sized office/study upstairs. Would that be enough to qualify for the library benefit for now?

  1. *Zaia glaring around the base*: "As long as no one does anything silly we should not have any illness this winter" He is fine without an infirmary
  2. For now they are fine living on the ship, they think its awesome, but eventually they are going to want something more honey, a 1/2 space otter hall would fit all of them comfortably, one moment while I add it.
  3. A single unit of library has just enough space for all your alchemy and metallurgy books... but since they are alchemy and metallurgy I'd say they would just about fit in the laboratory and smithy with some overflow in the office
Edit: Otter-kin burrow added if you want to build it up this winter.

Library, Basic
Size: 1 ss
Cost: 500 gp
Prerequisites: None
Plain wooden shelves of books fill this room, arranged in any manner you desire. One or two small tables allow people to read the books, and a single lectern allows you to read a book while standing. This library can hold up to two different lots of books on specific subjects. For example, it could contain books on Alchemy and Metallurgy. In the absence of a library research actions will take a -1 malus from the inconvenience of stacking them in unsuited places or you must pay 50 gold/researcher/season to have them work in the city.
Just wondering, for our current, rather limited, amount of books a study or office is enough?

The Otter-kin are definitely getting their burrow! 😇

Added this to the plan:
