Journeywoman's Journeys, A Fantasy Age of Exploration Worldbuilding Quest (Updated Daily)

[X] …In a Colonial Hub

In another world we say that "all roads lead to Rome." Here is where one of the roads starts from. A conquered possession of a empire at it's golden age, unimaginable wealth flows through its ports, but does not stop. The treasures of the world pass through to enrich far off masters, while vital neccesities are illegal to make, only to come from the master's distant factories.

Because what is the point of having a empire if you aren't going to have a revolution to fight it?

[X] …In a Bustling Port

Maritime adventures really appeal to me. Gather a crew, set sail in search of new lands...

[X] …In a Rural Backwater

People from ivory towers so often look down upon manual workers. But in the end, it's workers' labour that supports the opulence of castles, palaces and lecture halls.

[ ] ...In a Peasant-Ruled City

Formed by a peasant revolt, this city is relatively backwater, but proud of its traditions, including a democratic government, communal ownership (and work) of the land, and fierce militias. Many view it as a historical curiosity, sure to become another oligarchy or aristocracy, others see it as a bright beacon of the future. Inhabitants of this city are steeped in unusual worldviews, familiar with manual labor, and poor but provided for.

To the update in order to increase visibility.

I will try to do this whenever I can, I may not be close to a computer at all times and will certainly miss some. Don't assume that only votes in the threadmarked update are valid, I just was able to see them. Also don't be worried about your write in being exactly the same length and format as the ones I write. Being a few words off in either direction is fine, the word limit is because I want all options to be roughly equal in effort and viability and have some rules to this whole mess. >: V

[X] …In a Shrine Town
...Guys how are we sure this dead god was a good god?

@AKuz Does this work?

City carved of the world. Underground using seemingly all means possible to light their darkness. Reflecting off of crystals, like a glitering night sky. But beyond that are numourous tunnels either going further into the depts of the earth or reaching to the surface. Towers of stone reaching to a eternal night, tunnels in darkness searching for a glint of the world's vein. They are in truth the first to hold what will eventually become the wealth for others. A city of mines and artistic crafts.

[X] ...In a Underground City

Deep underground this city is one carved by nature and it's residents until it reached a marvelous size. All throughout structures of stone and crystal growths all working in combination and lit through a variety of ways. Reflecting off of crystal a constellation underground is formed that dazels all to what must be an eternal night sky. But beyond the main area of the city are its numerous tunnels and mines, from which many work for the next big source of wealth. Inhabitants of this place know much when it comes to the underground and the darkness there is. ...Even what lurks in the dark.

...Hm, first thing I wrote probably works better...Might want to go with that one actually, though could flow better I think...

So we've been chatting over on the Wordsmith discord, nothing permanent of course, about potential lore
Hop on over if you're bored or something

If anybody would like to pull inspiration from historical city-state traditions here's the ones I can name with certainty: South East Asia, Ancient Mesopotamia, pre-Colombian Mesoamerica, Classical Greece, Italy, the Canaanites, Pre-Pharaonic Egypt

interesting idea, but they're both a bit too long (nearly 90 words and 110) compared to the ~70ish we're looking for, if you can streamline those votes a bit it'll be a good entry

This better? I believe the text is at 70 words now. Hm, though does use reach multiple times...

I'm just gonna approval vote

[X] …In a Shrine Town

As an excuse to worldbuild about religion

[X] …In a University City

Because it has a lot of potential to learn new things, become a scientist, become a mage, lead a student rebellion, or be caught up in the ludicrously cut-throat world of academic politics

[X] …In a Manufacturing City

For the industrial aesthetic

[X] ...In a Underground City

Because Coober Pedy seems like a nice town

[X] …In a Colonial Hub

Because revolution

All of these are cool, and there are also the options of the Niger Delta or the Swahili Coast if we want to take inspiration from real-life sub-Saharan African city-state cultures.
