Vampire goth girlfriend got

Am I the only one who is not very comfortable with Esha? I would let her go if she is not very inclined to stay on Marcella.
No, you are not alone. There is only so much one can do unknowingly, and "you are doing a good work for me" is a poor excuse to let bygones be bygones and leave the matter to rest. I suppose it helps that her victims have been dead and buried (if that); it'd be a lot harder to justify keeping her alive and without facing any kind of judgement for her actions if we encountered one of them in the flesh.

Her character still shows in her suggestions, whether they are tests or no. Marcella, for all of her eldritch nature, hasn't harmed anyone yet.

However, with her being a pretty sorceress in need of a redemption arc, I don't have a lot of doubt where the votes would steer.

I'd part with her somewhere where I would expect her to not rely on her less admirable habits to survive; somewhere she would unlikely to be lynched and have a way to make a living. Not sure if Orinilu counts, though she did make money off her skills.

There is also something to be said for keeping our relationship mercenary and professional, especially when we are in need of magical expertise to fight off a bigger threat, but I'd rather not have us become friends as the first option implies. If any of her previous misdeeds come to light, I'd choose she answered for them in full instead of having us stick our neck out for her. Something to keep in mind if we venture into the lands where she and her father left their mark.

Roland might even remember times in the Bible where Christ is quoted as saying to self professed sinners guilty of death under Jewish law, "Go, and sin no more".

I believe we should give her a chance at redemption and in any case, we can always backtrack if she fucks up.

[X] "My words stand, you have been a good friend to me and a leal ally in battle, but do you even want to join us? I do not know what kind of life waits Marcella's crew in the future, but it will definatly be very troubled, full of battles and traveles to the distant shores. Esha, are you sure that you want something like this? I think that you deserve more peacful life."

My English is not very good, but I think that I managed to wrote what I feel about this situation.

I get that some of y'all are wary of Esha, but we need her in the crew. She provides important expertise we are currently lacking, including knowledge of subjects we don't have covered, the peoples and cultures of the region, additional magic we need to be able to handle various situations, etc.

A friendly spellcaster willing to travel with us is not going to be something we find very often. Also, her ability to innately use Comprehend Languages will make translating and deciphering lore, texts, scrolls, etc., much less problematic.

Once Inge starts brewing potions, she might also be able to collaborate with Esha in order to get us some useful Arcane potions, too.

As I've told other ESL posters around here over the years, you might not consider your English very good, but it surely isn't very bad. I've seen much worse from native English speakers, and not all that infrequently.

I'm drawing a parallel to our time in the Crusade to be honest, we went because we thought it would please God and we are now seeing it was probably the wrong thing to do. Might be a subject to bring up in a future heart to heart, but not now.

Arc 5 Post 28: Finding a Path
Finding a Path

Fourteenth Day of Olweje-hamba (Olweje Descending) 1348 A. L. (After Landfall)

"I meant what I said before, you have been a good... friend," your tongue trips over the word, not from any lack of sincerity, but more at uncertainly if it is reciprocated. By way of acknowledging the point you offer a rueful smile. "A stalwart ally, and if you wish to continue sailing on the Marcella you are welcome to do so."

There is no need to ask Zaia's thoughts on the matter, desirous as he is to learn more of the secrets of sorcery and Antonio of course is more than willing to have another scholar against the perils and boons of this strange world, one who is not a young child besides.

"And now you are no doubt wondering why I should wish to do so..." she trails off, a glimmer of amusement in her dark eyes, at having guessed your mind so well perhaps. "Would it amaze you to discover that my reasoning is as yours in a mirror reflected? Just as you wish my aid for your lack of knowledge of the world so does that very fact allow you to be easy in my presence in the way few others are, knowing what I am and how I was begotten." Here she pauses and the mirth flees from her manner in an instant. "At the very least I would not wish the company of those few others whom I know who would so lightly break bread with a daughter of the dead. Simpler for me to cut the bloody chord all at once and sail way... back west?"

The last two words rise in a question and so you open your mouth to answer, or start to at least. The street had grown deserted enough as you spoke that now Silver speaks, voice as low as he can make it... which is not so low, a horse's lungs obviously are not meant for whispering no matter the sorcery that gives him voice. "Back to the islands for now, but I confess I would wish to see these wide cold plains of which so much is said where deer, oxen and elephants garbed in woolen coats roam freely. Have you ever seen them with your own eyes?"

"That I have not," Esha replies once you translate, not at all tripped up to be talking to a horse. "We... that is it is hard to lose yourself in the crowds when there are so few faces and none of them new. In a city my face is easily missed, but in some distant roundhouse or dark cave of the Knikut well... I should stand out like a lily in a field of wildflowers and no doubt live about as long, but they do say that in those lands are hidden many old and strange magics, crossings of ley lines as old and as wild as the hills, unguarded save by the primal spirits or perhaps by the dead of some long dead kindred, yet mistake that not for an empty land or a soft one. There are beasts wholly of flesh there that could rip even a man in armor limb from limb and the less said by those touched by other things the better..."

You are not at first sure how to take being upstaged from the conversation by your horse, but in the end bemusement fades into humor as you realize what Silver is trying to do with his conversation, to ask the questions you had not, about Esha's past, about who might be hunting her and why. Not that he has a lot of luck. He did not have any great measure of experience trying to pick apart one word for the other or snaring someone into giving a straight answer, and it is clear the sorceress has had a great deal of practice avoiding those very questions so he ends up learning more about the state of the roads and the best months to travel as well as what each city sells and buys and when then about Esha's travels around the Blue Sea.

What do you do next?
Days until departure: 9; Each action will take 3 days

[] Travel to see the market and what you may there buy
-[] Write in what you are looking for (the more general the terms the more likely you are to find it)

[] Spend time with your men and with the crew, instructing them in what they may and may not speak of ashore, hopefully avoiding another incident like Zuan's outing
-[] Write in what you propose

[] Accompany Antonio as he finishes his deals in the city, things had gotten rather heated when last you saw that matter being discussed

[] Advise Inge and Zaia on what potions you would wish made (will have an impact on Zaia's growth into an alchemist)
-[] Write in

[] Just stay on the ship and enjoy the company of Silver, play with Ripper and Inge, the last few days have worn upon your mind, a break will do you good

OOC: You guys do not get to see Esha's sheet yet, she is still keeping a few things under her hat, but I can confirm she is an arcanist, specifically a twilight sage.

No, he does not have the feat for it. She has never thought of making potions out of her spells really.
Bummer. So I guess in this setting we won't be able to have team ups between mages with item creation feats and mages with certain spells working together? Or is it just that Arcane and Divine magic don't mix in this manner?

BTW, could you repost Esha's spell list, including what she learned from her father's spellbook?

Technically it is possible, but there is a distinct lack of Lya around. You do not have anyone with a common frame of reference or indeed the worldview to even try to create one... at least not yet. We will talk more on this when Zaia becomes a proper alchemist.

[X] Advise Inge and Zaia on what potions you would wish made (will have an impact on Zaia's growth into an alchemist)
-[X] Alchemical Fire to give Zaia a secondary weapon
-[X] CLW Potions for Surival!

[X] Spend time with your men and with the crew, instructing them in what they may and may not speak of ashore, hopefully avoiding another incident like Zuan's outing

I know that we need to do this, but I don't know what we should say...

Gotta have a talk with the men for sure. I've been waiting to use the "Loose lips sink ships!" line forever, though I doubt it translates into a nice little rhyme in whatever ancestors of modern languages we're actually using.

After Antonio's encounter(s) with the nobles of the city while buying and selling, and the general atmosphere (can't ignore the war, after all), it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to accompany him as he wraps up matters before we depart.

Inge doesn't really have much in the way of good potion options right now, but there is nothing wrong with having more CLW potions on hand. Also, she has a very good Craft (Alchemy) bonus, so she can try to create some other curative staples. A +13 bonus, plus the bonus from Zaia's Alchemy lab, plus Zaia using Aid Another to help her for another +2 (and vice versa), plus her Guiding Spirit daily reroll means she could conceivably develop one or more Alchemical items in relatively short order.

[X] Spend time with your men and with the crew, instructing them in what they may and may not speak of ashore, hopefully avoiding another incident like Zuan's outing
-[X] Caution the men, especially those known among the crew to be overly talkative when deep in their cups, that even seemingly innocuous words can have disastrous consequences when so much about us is already strange and attention grabbing. Loose lips sink ships!
-[X] While it might be an inconvenience, we would also ask that everyone on shore leave or working on tasks assigned to them in a port, such as shopping for provisions, be accompanied by at least one other person from Marcella's crew. This won't always be necessary, of course, but for now it is for everyone's best interests when we visit unfamiliar and potentially unfriendly ports.

[] Accompany Antonio as he finishes his deals in the city, things had gotten rather heated when last you saw that matter being discussed.

[] Advise Inge and Zaia on what potions you would wish made (will have an impact on Zaia's growth into an alchemist)
-[] Ask that Inge focus her efforts on brewing additional healing potions (Cure Light Wounds), and that she attempt to develop Alchemical curatives, such as Antiplague and Antotoxin, for we currently lack any rapid means of treating disease or poison. Our own recent bout with the disease inflicted by the Summoned rats illustrates how important this could be.
--[] If she isn't yet able to create such items, maybe something which could be used to incapacitate foes would be possible? (i.e. Tanglefoot Bags, Fungal Stun Vials, etc.)
-[] For Zaia, suggest that he perhaps try to concoct something more likely to harm foes that might shrug off his acid. For example, there are few beings, at least that we know of, who can ignore the effects of being immolated. Fire isn't necessarily something we might wish used when fighting on Marcella's decks, but we've already seen how often conflict seems to find us regardless of our locale.
-[] Encourage them to work together to achieve their goals, where possible.
