Sure, not like there would be a lot of people to gainsay you.
How hard is it to make our own church by the way? Since none of the crew seems to be knowledgeable about it, do we have to assemble all the Christians in the ship and have them vote for a chaplain who will look after their last rites and spiritual well-being? Two Christians have already died in this world after all and their souls may be in limbo instead of heaven

Well the first problem you would have to overcome is that the only Bible you have is in Greek and Zaia is the only one on board who can even read Greek and he has no interest in being a priest. The other problem is that the only literate people on the ship are alphabetically:
  1. Antonio
  2. Roland
  3. Zaia
So if you want a chaplain from among your men or the few remaining sailors you would first have to translate that Bible into a language they speak... and then you would have to teach them to read.

That sounds like a lot of hardwork... IC is Roland willing to do that? He seems to be the only pious person among the three

Generally speaking I err on the side of player agency unless it contradicts previous characterization in a way or at a moment that does not make sense so if you want you guys can vote for it.
Thanks! I think Roland is the only pious one in the entire ship for if there was anyone else as pious as him they would have stepped up already and volunteered to learn.

Edit: like those guys who learned the nets as a weapon and Esha who learned how to ride a horse

Keep in mind we are in a pre-reformation mindset here. It is entirely possible to be pious and consider yourself unworthy of reading and spreading the word of God even in extreme circumstances. The Church at his point was a lot more remote from the average Christian. You might have to prod these people if you really want to do this.

I have no interest in seeing this quest turn into any sort of proselytizing crusade for Christianity, or any other religion for that matter.

Havent considered the nuance of that. Can our people be converted by the way?

[X] The seer kept to his bargain and you had seen him work no magic to disturb the dead in your presence. You had no interest to condemn a man merely for what enchantments he possesses, no more than you would hold Esha's parentage against her.

100% this.

This world does not need a religious crusade (or another for that matter). The least we can do is try to make the world around us better.

If Big G wanted us to go preaching the Good Word he would have made Roland a Paladin lol. Doing so otherwise is peak Heresy, and Roland super doesn't seem like the kind of person who's arrogant enough to think that he can properly represent his religion in all its forms with nothing but a layman's knowledge and a book that he can't read.

I always believe sending out people from the past into a new world of fantasy would leave some way for proselytization. However this is a quest not a setting for a developer or writer to world build. That's a lot of work it wouldn't be as simple in a manner of speaking as Robinson Crusoe converting a native man he saved to convert after a debate.

Put me in the Anti "Christian God Paladin" camp. Both because of irl problems and because playing as one seems like a pain in the ass.

[X] "I care not for the origin of his powers, only what he would do with him. While I was dealing with Eiriran he was nothing but helpful, if self serving. The important things is that one uses their abilities for good deeds, or even just not evil deeds. Me and mine would be hypocrites to judge him while sailing upon Marcella even now, would we not?"

Imo this is the crux of the issue. To Roland until recently, all magic was evil and the work of pagans or the devil. Now he has seen people use it, for good or ill, and it seems a tool like any other.
