The Life and Times of Whitley Schnee (A RWBY Adventure AU)

For ideas on what sort of business we might look at starting, I'd suggest we take note from the 19th century gold rushes in Australia and the western United States. It wasn't the vast majority of the gold miners that made massive fortunes from the gold rushes - it was the people who offered support services like the general stores, the laundries, the saloons and bars. Some of them made mad bank.

Huntsmen and Huntresses work for hire to eliminate Grimm threats, and they often have to travel great distances to do so, which takes them outside of their usual support network. That often leaves them vulnerable.

Looking for a weaponsmith who can make ammunition for a custom mecha-shift weapon?
What about somewhere they can get hold of field-grade medical kits for use in the field, to treat either themselves or people they rescue if they are injured?
Looking for somewhere they can buy general camping supplies they can rely on?

That's where we come in.

I'm thinking that, right now, we focus on making Whitley at least baseline competent in all areas (Command isn't really urgent at the moment), build up our ties with Pyrrha and eventually Sanctum, find out who supplies Sanctum with their support services. We keep training up Whitley's Social and Stewardship skills as priority (we should always be training to improve at least some of his skills) , network with these people to find out who's who in their business sector and keep learning. Basically compile a database of people who could provide support services to Huntsmen - weaponsmiths, Bullhead lease and repair, general suppliers, medical supplies and personnel - heck, even bars and clubs who cater to Huntsmen and Huntsmen-wannabes. Basically we would be acting like a concierge to Huntsmen both local and out-of-town, as described below (taken from the Wikipedia article on 'Concierge' )

"In hotels or resorts, a concierge assists guests by performing various tasks such as making restaurant reservations, booking hotels, arranging for spa services, recommending night life hot spots, booking transportation (like taxi, limousines, airplanes, boats, etc.), coordinating porter service (luggage assistance request), procuring tickets to special events, and assisting with various travel arrangements and tours of local attractions. Concierges also assist with sending and receiving parcels.
In hospitals, concierge services are becoming increasingly available. A hospital concierge provides similar services to those of a hotel concierge, but serves patients and employees as well. This helps hospital employees who work long shifts, and helps to provide work-life balance. "

Anyone think this might work?

Alright this seems reasonable.

The first two actions make use of previous successes to get an income, and network for future jobs. Besides they might have a better idea for niches Whitley can make a company to fill due to the very real possibility worst father might get a luck roll on locating Whitley, and force him to go someplace else, which means it will be difficult to make long-term connections difficult

Whitley needs to have a minimum of competence in fighting ability, and honestly getting a rank above should prove useful sooner rather than later imo. Because it creates a safety net for combat on adventures, and just as important is used for escape rolls.

While I'm not certain what the results of this action will be it makes sense IC, and if it has the possibility of increasing Command it will be invaluable.

So our current business ideas are dust prospecting, selling supplies needed for either prospector or huntsman work or frontier courier services?

Obviously that means we have to look for the most dangerous options we can find!

I would be tempted to search for ruins of fallen civilizations to sell historical artifacts but that doesn't sound sustenable. Maybe tech support for the CCTS relay towers? We might also make wilderness outposts to open new trade routes? Or promote trade with Menagerie. Or bodyguard duty for rich idiots that want to kill a grimm to brag about it.

So I present this plan, this is basically the same as [] Build Credentials and Feel the Burn but we enter Sanctum to take advantage of the bonus, because that way the -25 mallus gets basically nullified and we will get a decent level of skills.
