After all, you don't think you'd get such good results if you were just to walk up and punch Puppetmon.
Hey, he might burst his gut laughing.

[X] You should take them prisoner. If they're here to gather mushrooms, they can't complain about having to eat them all the time, even if it does put a strain on the food supply.

The point of making morally good choices is that you consider them better choices even if you know they're going to bite you in the rear. Or something else deeply philosophical to that effect.

[X] Write in - Ask Elecmon if he feels comfortable with holding them prisoner. If not, kill them. You'd really prefer not to, but protecting the Baby Digimon comes first.

The safety of children is paramount.

Hope this doesn't trigger the write-in curse.

Choices
As it turns out, the spore attacks mushroom Digimon are primarily known for are flammable. This fact probably shouldn't surprise you as much as it does, but it's nice to know that the Digital World hasn't yet made you entirely numb to shock.

Soon after this discovery, the two of them lie on the ground in a twitching heap, unable to really defend themselves.

You turn to Elecmon. "What do you think?"

"About what?"

"We can't let them go back to Puppetmon." You'd thought that was obvious. While you have no way of knowing if he knows about your location- everything you could do to check involves either causing a rash of mysterious disappearances, or outright letting him know where you are anyway- that's no reason to take any more risks than there needs to be. "So, do we take them prisoner, or...?"

Elecmon's ears flatten. "I'm not letting them anywhere near my babies."

...Okay, you suppose that's fair. "...All right. Biyomon." You don't tell her what you want her to do, but... of course, she figures it out anyway. Two flashes of well-aimed green fire, and both of your opponents are gone for good.

...Really. They can't come back. Not without a Primary Village in operation. And the remnants you're staying at are far from operating properly.

This fact refuses to leave your mind.

"Let's hurry and get some more mushrooms," Elecmon says, as if the past several minutes haven't happened. "Just in case they had any friends."

You heavily doubt they would have. You're not sure they were even friends with each other.

But... it's not like it's really your decision.

When you get back, you tell nobody about the minions of Puppetmon that you encountered. This is partially because no one asks about it, but even more because you have no idea what you'd even say.

It's just... what is there to say? Two Digimon showed up, and they're gone now. They're never coming back.

It's... just as strange to think about as anything else.

The little Digimon are full of questions, clamoring to ask just what the forest's like- and what everything else is like, too. This cavern has become their own little world, and soon enough, they'll be getting most of their food from it, too.

"Sora?" You glance at Rikuto. In this limited light, you can't read the look on his face.

"Did you... want something?"

"I mean, we could always use help clearing out a bit more space... or you could help turn the rubble into some kind of wall outside, that'd help, too..." You suppose that, having brought the spores back, there's less to worry about when it comes to shutting this place out from the outside world.

[ ] You'll help with clearing out a space inside.

[ ] You'll do something with all the rubble outside.

[ ] ...You're maybe a bit tired to do anything today.

Now I'm curious about what would have happened if we voted to take them prisoner without asking Elecmon first, given how vehemently he was against it here.

[X] You'll help with clearing out a space inside.

I think "tired" is Sora being depressed so she should probably keep busy. The question is whether she needs some space now or to be reminded of why the other Digimon had to die. I'd want space, but Sora has the "Love" theme.

Welp. Sometimes, you have to make hard choices for the sake of the people and/or partner you care about.

Never Try Lying to a Demon
One of the things you haven't really thought about is how, even now that you have the spores to grow mushrooms, it doesn't mean that much unless you actually have a space to grow them in. Sure, this is a problem for a lot of growable food, but it's especially blatant with the mushrooms, which can be grown anywhere sufficiently dark and damp, and so the logical method of dealing with it is to try and make space underground.

This is a perfectly reasonable thing to do, even considering how everyone else is living underground and might accidentally trample the crops. It's just that moving large, heavy objects is tiring and takes a long time to do.

But it's also work you don't have to think about. So once you're given the idea, you wander over and start moving the rocks that Impmon can't handle.

"How'd the mushroom gathering go?" Impmon asks. You glance at the ground.

"It was... okay," You lie. It could have been fine, maybe, in a world where your supply runs didn't have overlap with Puppetmon's mushroom cravings. But apparently they do, and it turns out that there's consequences for that, even if Puppetmon might just be the kind of Digimon who never notices his goons going missing.

Even if nobody else finds out what happened to them. You'll know. Even if they never come back, and nobody but you, Biyomon, and Elecmon are the only ones who know that anything happened at all.

Impmon casts a glance in your direction, and you realize that you can't tell if he believes you or not. "So, you got the spores?"

"If we didn't, I don't think Elecmon would have let us come back." No reason to lead potential enemies to your hiding place unless you've actually got what you'd gone out to look for, right? "He... takes safety really seriously."

"Guess he has to. Security's not exactly easy around here. The Dark Masters want to control everything, you know, and Puppetmon's by far the worst of them."

You remember hearing something like that before. It almost makes sense, even, that a living marionette would have a thing about control. You just... aren't sure it's a thing worth leaving no witnesses about. "I wouldn't know. I've never met him." All things considered, that's probably for the best.

"Well, I haven't seen any around here, but I bet that once you get closer to his place, there'll be a bunch of tripwires or something. Strings are another one of his things."

Given how you first met him, you suppose you shouldn't be too surprised that he knows this. Puppetmon's proclivities are probably something you can learn about just by poking around outside for a while, dangerous as it might be.

Still, worst case, they're strings. They should burn easily. "I'll... keep a look out."

For a moment, Impmon stops working, and turns to face you. "...All right, what's the problem?" You suppose it was a bit much to expect him to entirely believe you.

[ ] It's fine. There is no problem.

[ ] Admit that you aren't entirely sure where you're going from here.

[ ] Talk about the incident earlier with the mushroom Digimon.

[ ] Is there anything else about the Dark Masters he could tell you?

[X] Talk about the incident earlier with the mushroom Digimon.

I'm not sure why Sora is lying since Impmon is pretty much Elecmon's second in command and goes outside when necessary. Though I also want to know if there's anything that he could tell us about the Dark Masters.
