Right I am going to bed but hopefully now that people are actually aware of what the Trading post really is (a slave port/pirate haven version of Argus) they will reconsider their vote when they see the new information and hopefully the people still voting for the fishing village swap over to the outpost since it has the best chance at winning.
So apparently, being a merchant lord means we would have been part of the slave trade.
@Iandude0 no offence but you are not giving enough information in the thread as most of us do not go to the discord channel. Because seriously, what does "Cutthroat business" have to do with the slave trade?
We are voting blindly at this point in both threads.

Iandude responded in the discord, yes, but only after someone asked him this on there. If he was asked this in thread he'd have answered the same I expect.
To answer your question: Mistral is known, canonically, to engage in slave trade in this period of time. Being a 'trader' in a war zone, allied to state-sanctioned bandits... I'm not surprised that not everybody made the obvious connection to 'bandits will also bring people along with all their wealth to be traded away', but I am surprised it took this long for someone to talk about it.
Overall, you can expect the following: You will play a person taking on a leading role in the described situation on the eastern part of Vale's continent. During the great war. This means you will be building up your area and working towards your goal, which will probably include 'win the war'. This means you can expect everything that comes with that.
Well, with this new revelation I have thoughts.
1. I am personally in favor of the fishing village for a lot of the reasons others have already stated; more time out of combat to shore up Penny's weaknesses and grow as a person, have a starter fleet, have a defensive starting location that we can build from, The war will eventually come to us but we should have more time to build defenses and our logistics, and I think it would be pretty fun to eventually have our settlement become the Shield Of Vale as the cornerstone of Vale's lines on this front.
2. The Merchant Lord option raises a few conundrums. I don't like slavery and I don't think that Penny would do well participating in the slave trade. That said, I think that Penny interacting with slaves and the whole system surrounding the trade would be interesting. It might cause Penny to reflect on her own situation as an android specifically built for combat. Depending on where she goes with that she could either reaffirm her vow to protect people or forsake it all in true robo existentialism; either way is pretty interesting. It definitely would give Penny a look into the worst parts of humanity which could go any number of ways. My preferred path in this option would be to gather a large group of like minded individuals and slaves and create our own little nation mostly comprised of the settlements that would have been destroyed either from the crossfire or the grim. Mind you, this is much easier said than done, and would likely see us crushed under the might of Mantle and Mistral's main armies since they must have a lot of experience with uprisings. Another thing to keep in mind is the Northern Attention. Mantle, the northern kingdom, has a major thing against any kind of self expression, and the Emperor of Mistral is enforcing that anywhere outside of the core territories. We will probably have to deal with Mantle inquisitorial agents snooping around our territory ready and willing to make our lives hell if we don't stick to the program.
3. Leading a garrison is fast track to glory and prestige. With our raw combat ability and our, probably, really good tactical skills we could become a major mover in the military, or even Vale as a whole. What we make of this power is up to us and the dice. This is also the path most likely get us in contact with, or even patronage/training from, The King of Vale. We just have to remember that war is hell, and this gets us there the fastest. We are going to have to be very careful not to let Penny lose faith in humanity or burn herself out. It's gonna be a careful balancing act.

It is a matter of communication. You should not have to go read the wiki or a Discord to know the consequences of the choices presented. Especially since it was not hinted at all in the update.
I will not make a issue of it, but this is putting me off for the reason that I feel that simply playing the game is not enough and I need to go on a wiki dive to vote. That breaks the game for me as last time, I could simply vote and have fun.

It's good that you do say this. It'll help Ian, and me, be more aware of clarifying things as we go along.
I do fear that the discord will be important along the way though, as it also was last time. We'll all do our best to make sure that any results of discussion make their way to the thread though, as happened in this instance.
Alright for the players please be aware that we will be splitting the threads now. So choose one side to stay with and stay on it no going to the other thread once you have picked a side.

Just leaving it here for the sake of declaring my allegiance: gonna stay in this side. And, hopefully, massacre the other thread later down the road '3'.
So, what should be our war shout? Something like "SV rules, SB sucks?"

As a fellow, probably SV player, because we need as many as we can get.
(Also because if I stayed on SB, odds are that I would try and become that one ineffectual moral compass, that does nothing. And is just really annoying.)
I'd say, we should wait until both sides piss each other off, IC, and then come up with a phrase.
There will be enough salt to cook a feast, eventually. No need to focus on inflaming it further.
EDIT
Interesting thought everyone. Do you think Cinder kept her Half-Maiden Powers in the Simulation? And if she did, would that not only alarm the conspiracy outside, but also give us a chance to take them?
Assuming we can force her to enter shock on the outside, and have Penny be in her final thoughts.
Well, just an idea. And only if she ends up in a hostile faction.
I'm really interested to see how penny develops from this extra long simulation.
For everyone else, they have plenty of pre-simulation experience, and good friends waiting for them on the other side. For penny, who might only be a few years old at the time of the vytal festival, this simulation will probably be the vast majority of her life and experience. Even further, she has only just made friends in the real world, and that friend is ruby, who is also in the simulation!
If they end up the same side, which I kind of hope they do, it means almost everyone penny cares about and all her friends will be in this simulation.
I am super curious to see how she develops without the level of control that has been held over her so far. For the first time she is in sole control of her own body, which might lead to her coming up with all sorts of ideas and beliefs canon penny would never have.
Hmm, if we were to try and keep Penny grounded. It may be a good idea to develop a hobby.
Considering the Great War is described as a bit of a hellhole, and is some theorize based on WWI, except done Remnant style. Penny will be placed in a contested settlement on Eastern Sanus, at the very starting point.
Quite frankly, she will probably see a lot of messed up things. Since that is the area where Mistral and Vale settlements are starting to fight over. In that environment, and especially with her job as a soldier, protector, she'll need an outlet of some kind.
The issue is that canon Penny doesn't really hint at having any hobbies. From what we see of her, it is mostly going with what my loved one's want.
Having an ally like Ruby on her side, would probably give us a good jumping point on someone who could convince her to do stuff beyond her duties.

Luckily, since we aren't on Mistral's side. Self-expression is fully allowed. Hmm...
Perhaps painting? Music is another pathway. We could try and angle for her trying to recreate tech or her weapons, the Floating Arrays from the old world, but that seems a bit too much like Ruby. Unlike the latter, she doesn't have a sheer love of weapon designing.
Which also brings up how we'll probably need Penny to train in an entirely new style of combat, but ignoring that for now.
Does anyone have any ideas for hobbies she could develop? Vale doesn't really seem to have a culture it's based on unlike the other kingdoms. So it's hard to figure out what type of things she'd encounter from settlements there.
Penny isn't a child or anything like that she is just sheltered. Nothing in the show states or even hints that she is young. Watts was a part of the team working on the project to make her and after Penny's father figured it out he left because his ego couldn't handle being beaten. And Watts didn't have the grey he does in the current era. So Penny maybe be younger than the others but not that much or she is much closer in age. She would have been under very long observation and testing for years on end before they would have risked her as they did at the tournament. That means they had to be confident she wouldn't be destroyed or they knew how to get her back if she was which is what they had figured out. That kind of thing takes a long time doing it once isn't a success being able to understand it and figuring out they could do it again would have taken a long time as well.

May want to add more breaks in your posts. Something I've noticed. But your posts are kind of hard to read, when all the sentences are clumped together. Regardless...
While we may not know her actual age. That isn't really the core issue. The issue is that she is sheltered, and naïve.
Quite frankly, if you've lived your life mostly undergoing tests, being protected, and not experiencing much of the world, one tends to be susceptible. The experiences she'll go through in the simulation will have an easier time embedding themselves in her mind as a result.
If we don't manage things. There is a chance she may become an entirely new person by the end, much like how Jaune ended up barely resembling how he used to be, and more a symbol. That is why we are bringing up her newfound freedom and potential hobbies.
Because, her age regardless. The life she's led until now, leaves her among the most open for change, among the students. For better or worse.

That depends on what she has been taught. Considering she is an Atlas military project she would have been taught things that allow her to function on the battlefield. She hasn't been living isolated this entire time she has just been living in a fairly sterile environment since that is what Atlas is like and not everyone there is unaware of the outside world.
