New Year's Eve
[] "Thank you for waking me up."

Getting your bearings in place, you turned to the old woman and nodded her way, "Thank you for waking me up. I'll be off now... I... I should go."

"Wait, are you sure? I mean, I'm no stranger to being homeless but perhaps we shouldn't let a young lady like you wander around alone," the old woman said with a worried tone.

You managed a small smile before you formed something within your palm. There was a small light that the old woman blinked in surprise at before you held up your hand before her. It was a golden gear. It was of a higher quality than what you normally crafted but you should at least give this as thanks. You're not sure if you would have woken up if left alone.

"Here. Use this to help yourself," you told her with a nod, "Get yourself a nice warm meal, ma'am. You have my gratitude."

"Eh? This is... Wait!" the old woman said but when she was about to look up from her hand, you had already taken to the sky. She was a little too slow to follow your movements so you took this chance to get to the rooftop.

Landing above the alley, you moved to the edge of the roof to get a lay of the land. You recognized this place as Kyoto... But then again the last thing you recalled was that you were fighting Yukina. You... How did you even get back here? Did someone bring you here and just dump you among the garbage? You held your head as it throbbed before you leaned on the nearby wall.

You wondered just how everyone was. Snow fell from the Night sky as you looked up. If everything was fine then did that mean you won? You actually beat Yukina? Was everyone okay? You... You can't see them. Not until you found Yuri. You should... You should check where she was being contained. It was near Central...

You should get there.

With that in mind, you began your search. You didn't know why but there was this overwhelming feel that was drawing you to her. You hoped she was okay. You ran across the building and jumped, using the Memory of Tatyana's power to manipulate gravity and clear large distances in one bound. The wind felt chilly but you endured. You kept moving through the peaceful scenery as you noticed that people were milling towards the heritage sites. Landing on the rooftops of the old buildings, you crouched down to see just how many people were coming and going beneath you.

They were safe.

You won.

Jumping away, you continued to make your way to Central as the snow fell. Christmas had not been too far ago, you could tell from the lingering decorations left on some nearby establishments. You descended down an alley and hit the ground floor, walking out the street to see what was going on. You blinked as you realized that a countdown had been going on. It seemed that there was only an hour to go until 2011.

It was the New Years.

It was New Years Eve... So that meant a few days had passed since your battle with Yukina. What happened? You stared at the TV display before you turned and ran down to the direction where Central was. Yuri... Your gut was telling you to find her. You had to hurry...

.....
....
...

When you got there, there was already a disturbance. You stood before the building where Yuri was contained and frowned. You could see traces of Grief in the air as you stepped towards the building. Yuri's form manifested beside you as you caught a lingering trace of her movements... You looked to the side and tensed before realizing there was no one there.

You ran inside the building and saw a girl lying on the ground, unconscious but unhurt. She was letting out a weak groan as you knelt by her side. You placed your hand on the ground and traced the entire building, getting a feel for it before the information returned to you. There were twelve girls in the building all knocked out.

Their Grief Levels were normal but there were signs of a struggle. No one was dead and no one was tainted... But where did Yuri go. She escaped again that means that she was regaining some of her strength back. Even her own mind wasn't going to be enough to keep the Evil Nuts in check. Hadn't Kaguya and the others make a solution for her yet?

Stepping away from the fallen girl you sighed.

The heavy feeling in your chest still won't subside. Find her. Your body was all but screaming that compulsion. What was she planning to do? Where was she going? Why did she escape? These questions swirled in your head as you let out a shaky breath... Where would she go?

[X] Investigate the Building

The other choices are a shot in the dark. If nothing else, we should be able to pick up Yuri's grief trail here.

Once more, under the snow of the new year. God I'm such a sucker for these epilogue bits.

We're not gonna find culprits without clues.

You could easily trace her if you just looked around a bit more. If you were to look closely on what happened here, you would be able to find out what happened. It wasn't just Yuri's whereabouts that you can focus on here, you can glean a bit more if you just looked in the right place. There was more to find here, you can feel it. You'll have to go through with what you know though.

From your observation, there were several Magical Girls that were here and they were all knocked out. None of them were dead but there were signs of struggles, which mean that Yuri went out of her way to take them down non-lethally. This told you of the sort of mindset she was in however this made her less predictable.

You decided to move to the elevator to head up the floors above where she was supposed to be contained. You supposed you could call someone to clean the place up. You didn't have your phone however so that's a non-option. You went back to your thoughts regarding this situation... Yuri knocked out the guards and escaped, this implied she still had the will to hold back against her foes and seemed to have gone out of her way to escape on this night.

Why?

At the very least she wasn't dangerous yet, she was able to think clearly with a cool head and make her escape with minimum fuss.

The elevator doors opened and you stepped out to find a few Magical Girls unconscious on the ground. Looking up, you could trace the miasma of grief hanging in the air. She was here all right and you could see that this was where the struggle happened. You recognized the scrapes on the walls and the shell dents on the ground.

Judging by the severity of the damage, she was... No, looking at it, it seemed that her powers were shooting off everywhere. There were no consistent marks near one another. Was she flailing? Was she really dangerous or not? Or... Was she barely holding it together?

"Kuh... Ugh."

You noticed one of the girls lying on the ground stir, making you tense up and walk over to her. You knelt down by her side before she slowly opened her eyes. Once she got a good look at you, her eyes widened before she grabbed on to your clothes.

"You... Yukina," the girl rasped as she grimaced, "Yuri's... Yuri's escaped. She disabled our magic. I... Sorry."

She knew who you were at least. You frowned before supporting her, "What happened here? Yuri, where'd Yuri go?"

"Dunno... She kept muttering that she wanted to leave. Her condition's gotten worse," the girl growled as she held her head, "She's desperate. Very."

Desperate? You were reminded of your last encounter with her and how she acted then. She wanted to be left alone, going as far as to isolate herself from everyone and everything as her condition got worse. She's not thinking of finding a ditch to die in, was she? If she gave up then the Evil Nuts will start controlling her body indefinitely then what reason Lachesis managed to drag out would be eroded.

"Right. I'll see if I can trace where she went. Just stay here, help will come by soon," you assured her with a grim tone before setting down. You were about to leave when the girl grabbed hold of your wrist. That made you look down as she spoke.

"Her cell. Look..." the girl breathed before passing out. You stared at her for a few more moments before taking her hand off your wrist. Setting it aside, you stood up and investigated the area. What you could glean from this was that Yuri was barely holding herself together and was making a run for a place where she could be alone...

If only to keep everyone out of the way of her inevitable fall. Even in her state she thought of others. You walked forward and looked for her cell which was located at the center of the floor. It was a room behind some double doors where a table with straps was encased within a magically reinforced glass box. Magic lingered in the air...

She broke through the barriers and walked out. You looked at the glass cell and saw something written on the glass. Numbers... But for what? You walked up to it before you had the Memory of Lachesis reach out from your body. And then...

You could see Yuri staggering out of her cell. She scraped the numbers on the glass wall while muttering under her breath.

"Got to... Get back," she murmured before she held her head, "Remember. Yes."

She staggered towards the door as her corruption oozed from her body, fizzling from the ground into the air and becoming one with the miasma.

You were pulled back into reality and staggered back. She wanted... To go back? Where? Why? You turned to follow the ghostly echo Yuri left behind and walked forward. You stood back at the double doors and watched Yuri's ghost keep moving. She stopped before a door before going inside it. You didn't notice that before. You went in the same door and stepped in to find that it was a security office of some sort.

The phone was hanging from the receiver. She was here...

The numbers, did they lead to something? They certainly pertained to wherever she was trying to get to. They were probably some sort of code but to where exactly?

================
Between the Lines

  • Yuri's current state has deteriorated to severe levels
  • Even then she has showed impressive restraint in combating obstacles. She means no harm to those around her. She may be able to think in her state.
  • A Witness has made mention of her growing desperation.
  • She may be having trouble keeping her sanity together, as such is evident of her desperation for resolution.
  • Yuri has showed intention of isolating herself to keep those around her safe in the past. Her actions could be derived from that.
  • A code was written upon the glass surface of her cell. Its purpose is unknown but it should lead to a place where it could be used.
  • Yuri seems to be intent on using this code to fulfill whatever goals she had in mind.
  • Find the place where she would most likely use that code.
  • A place Yuri will be familiar with most likely.

Hmm... The place where she originally revived Fal? That seems like a well enough out of the way spot to check in on?

Oh god, now we have to go all Detective Pikachu on this...

I am bad with mystery/detective missions, so I'll probably leave the deeper thinking to others.

I feel uncomfortable doing a write-in, since I haven't been around for very long, but yeah, I'm echoing that same thought that I want to check the workshop. Book ends, you know?

So... maybe something like this?

[X] Back to where everything began. Where you were created.

THE NUMBERS YURI, WHAT DO THE MEAN!?

See, that was my first thought, but that's hardly isolated. It's a house in a big neighborhood, that's a lot of people. Plus Yukina might've moved back in to her old digs, and of the people she's avoiding she'd be extremely high on the list. She's not thinking straight, so we shouldn't dismiss it, but we do know of a more isolated spot where we can consider things to have 'began'.

[X] Commit the numbers to memory, then start looking for Yuri at the shrine where Yukina was killed.
