To put things in perspective, the only other character with a stat above a 4 is Captain Ajam herself, and that's only in her Elan stat.

Cheerful Vulcan is just too much fun!
Though I must admit, having somebody other than our science officer with S:4 is tempting. Especially as we are *going* to run into alien biologies and weird medical problems. Having a second character with high S to assign to missions would be nice. And having that character be an expert cybertech? The perfect person to have on hand if Fleet Command needs help. But...cheerful Vulcan.

For the mission? This one, at least, is pretty obvious.

Cheerful Vulcan looks fun, and I really do not want a doc with P 1. P is going to be used a lot in medicine ... it's what you use to get info from people, to get people to pay attention to you ...

XO is just about as narratively appropriate as captain and has a relevant ability.

Science 3: Captain Maryam Ajam, Lt-Commander Luel Ulin.
Presence 3: Captain Maryam Ajam, Commander Tazam Losue, Lieutenant Commander Kathrine Marshall, Lt-Commander Luel Ulin, Ambassador Sharen na'Threx.
Insight 3: Captain Maryam Ajam.
Command 3: Lieutenant Commander Kathrine Marshall, Ambassador Sharen na'Threx.
Elan 5: Captain Maryam Ajam. Elan 3: Commander Tazam Losue, Knight-Captain Raelin.

We have five crew with Presence 3. We're packed with friendly people. Conversely, we only have one character with more than Insight 2, and it's our precious captain. We're also short on high Science and Command with only two crew each, though we're currently choosing our medical doctor who will have either S:3 or S:4.
 
....late to the party here, but I think a Gaeni doctor with knowledge of cybernetics (and S4) is particularly appropriate given that the "Fleet Command" of our mothership is a heavily cyberized Kadeshi.

While it would be funny, I don't want the Stargazer to return to the Federation with a crew of cyborgs. Okay, I am exaggerating, but Medicine is still the last place whete I would want a mad scientist.
