...To Chase the Songs of Distant Stars (A Star Trek: To Boldly Go... Companion Quest)

Really? Even a rudimentary method of detecting subspace corridors or mapping the ones in nearby starts would go a long way to keeping our ships from being damaged by one of them again, and I think it's fair to expect finding more subspace corridors in the future when investigating Preserver installations. Moreover, they might be things to find still inside subspace, even right here that we can't currently detect.

Really. It's a speculative investigation of throwing probes at at and hoping we learn something. I really wanted to put it in there, but my instincts just said, "No BV, now is not the time. Have your science officer do something productive instead of more pure research without a foundation."

I have to listen to my gut, which tells me "don't do probes".

Anyway, I think we should be mentally prepared to leave this place at short notice.

As a sector, this place is a treasuretrove of resources and technology. It's very unlikely that any spacefaring civilization would let this place lying around without any attempt at exploitation.
So, where is everyone? Why is no one here.

A few possible explanations.

1) It was never discovered

This explanation is neat, but it has a few big problems. Ships have been arriving here for a long time. While most of these ships were critically damaged, at least some where relatively undamaged. The Constitution for example. While it's crew tragically died, the systems are likely to be intact enough to have send distress signals. It seems unlikely that every single ship in this shipyard arrived in such a fashion that no one could escape, and that no single system send out a distress call.

2) There's no one out there

While we have no evidence to discredit this In character, we can dismiss it out of character because this is Star Trek, and there's aliens around every corner.

3) The system poses some unknown danger.

This if my fear.

Well, we know for a fact that none of the 4 derelicts we're looking at recovering (or anything else in the system) has broadcasted a distress call since the Stargazer expedition arrived. It's entirely possible that one of the arrivals in system had an automated distress call system functional at some point between their arrival and our own, but even in relatively well populated areas like the UFP distress calls aren't a certainty of receiving a response (see the assorted failed events and/or events about stumbling across an ancient derelict previously lost). It's quite possible that Arrival is just distant or otherwise off the beaten path for any local civilization.

Hard NO to this one. I don't want to wake up any of the sleepers until we're much more established. Of course we'll rouse them eventually, but that's a medium to long term project. There's more valuable things to be doing.
I agree with waiting till we are ready before waking them up, the missions for the ships are for a one month study project to see in what state they are and what is needed to repair them. In the computer of these ships there might be more leads about where they came from and what they saw while in this system.

Sure.

But this is a place that should have been sending out distress signals pretty frequently for the last 10 000 years.
Considering the Constitution had everyone die on arrival? I'm not sure that'd be the case. Hell, we've only got four reasonably intact ships from the past thousand years or so. Without having that entry station actively assisting, transit to here is a lot nastier than what the Stargazer and company had to deal with.

IIRC, Star Trek vessels have automated distress beacons. Ships from other polities probably do too.

And while there are only 4 intact ships now, it is noted that debris from the field has damaged them. It's likely that there were more intact vessels once upon time, but which were eventually destroyed by either their own internal damage or external debris impacts.

Also, at least 1 vessel was not destroyed by the transit, but by some unknown enemy.

A much older antecedent of the previously mentioned March of Progress, the Maiden class HIMS Maiden of Twilight.

Twilight
is an exploration cruiser from the height of the Orion Empire, one which I am led to believe is roughly equivalent to Starfleet's older Constitution-A vessels. She is much more intact (And much smaller than her distantly descended niece, coming in at just under 1mt), though she appears to have been left derelict after suffering an attack from an unknown weapon system that cored her through entirely. Killing her crew in the process.

This system might be to far away from inhabited systems for mining to be economical or there might be something like the Suvekizer around.

I think it's most likely that the nearby systems are just uninhabited, so nobody to pick up any distress signs. If the Precursors lived in these systems, then disappeared, that would leave the systems empty.

Whelp. I can't argue against "follow your gut". Never mind how important it is to learn about the super dangerous thing that's our only way back, or how other Preserver locations and tech probably uses subspace corridors too.

Chapter 3
'Arrival' NGC-185
November 2317

Captain's Log, Stardate [x], USS Stargazer, Captain Maryam Ajam
(EC-Excelsior, Arrival NGC-185)

Commander Losue informs me that the first test of our newly built weapons platforms has concluded with 94% of the platforms performing within predicted parameters.

While these platforms are unshielded due to being of Kadeshi rapid manufacture, the compressed ion pulse weaponry they are armed with will be effective against most opponents in close combat.

While a few of these platforms have been seeded in the outer system, to cover our new sensor platforms, the majority have been placed at the location of Pride of Kadesh, which has been moved adjacent to the Gardener resourcing platform.

Additionally, when the sensor network is brought online later this evening, Lt. Commander Marshal will be trying it into the defence network, improving accuracy and effective range.

Mission [Fortify System: Fixed Defences I]: Successful

Assigned Characters: Commander Tazam Losue, Lieutenant T'Vitt

Outcome: With tour fixed defences now operational, static targets like Gardener and Pride of Kadesh are much less vulnerable and, in the event that Arrival falls under attack, there will more targets to shoot at than our precious -and irreplaceable- manned vessels.

Reward: XP, Defensive platforms.

"There's something out there, Captain," Katherine Marshal moves her hands lightly over the tactical panel, lightly drawing a line across the deep black representation of deep space with her fingertips, "Rr'rou and I noticed it a few hours ago when we were bringing the new sensor network online."

"It's undeniable. There's something out there. A lot of somethings. Undeniable Captain. Look at this." behind Marshal, at the science officer's terminal, Stargazer's chief scientist seems half distracted, his thick mane of fur angled towards his left, as if blown down by a strong wind, "Over here Captain, take a look," Rr'rou waves Captain Ajam and Lt.-Cmdr. Marshal over to his science station, then resumes running his hand through the darker fur of his mane, "It's either dust clouds passing across the star, or a large amount of material like the Arrival debris field. Or it could not be, because it, ah, the, the uh,"

"It moves. Like, unpredictably Captain. Self directed movement."

Rr'rou excitedly points a finger at Stargazer's Tactical officer, "Exactly! Yes, exactly! Fifteen hundred years ago, NGC-185-1556-TL-15 had an astronomically significant mass of vessels surrounding it."

Ajam crosses her arms and cocks her head at the data on Marren's terminal, "Hmm, NGC-185-1556-TL-15 isn't at one of the coordinates provided by fleet command."

"No, no, not even accompanying, sorry, accomodating for stellar drift, galactic orbit, uhm," Marren's fur covered hands tap excitedly at his station's controls, the gentle green and blue text of the UI shifting rapidly as he keys in dozens of instructions in rapid succession, "Now, then, Cmdr Marshal, Kathy," he gives a single jerky nod to his tactical counterpart, "helped me compare with other systems, ah um, techniques." the star of the screen splits into a half dozen images, hundreds of lines of text, icons, and diagrams surrounding them.

Marshal leans forward, putting a hand on Rr'rou's shoulder as she points at a few points of interest, "Whatever the objects are, or were, they're no longer there. We've used long range techniques like gravimetric triangulation and subspace lensing light accumulation to determine that NGC-185-1556-TL-15 is currently devoid of such anomalies."

"So…" Captain Ajam frowns, raising a hand from her crossed arms to place a finger along her jawline, eyes narrowing at the data in front of her, "There is-"

"-or was."

"Yes Commander, or was, something out there." a hint of worry crosses onto her features and decides to settle in for a long stay, "A lot of somethings."

Mission [Fortify System: Sensor Network I]: Successful

Assigned Characters: Lt-Cmdr Katherine Marshall, Lt-Cmdr Marren Rr'rou

Outcome: With a basic sensor network in place around the Arrival system, the fleet will receive early warning of approaching vessels and have more resources to divert towards scientific endeavours.

Reward: XP, Early Warning, +1 S to space Missions in the Arrival System

Dr. Naad Hath-Set abruptly breaks the tense silence in the small runabout cabin, "It absolutely should be something!"

Lt. Kahar Samedi can swear that he hears gears grinding away in the Gaeni officer's head as Stargazer's doctor fumes in his chair next to Samedi.

There's no way that Samedi can actually hear such a thing as Gaeni cybernetics use computer chips and electricity, not whirring gears and steam power. But it certainly feels like smoke should be coming out of the older man's ears.

The doctor continues, a sense of frustration flooding out from him into the small cockpit, "I refuse to believe that this hulk is another dud. No interesting technology at all!"

Samedi keeps his attention on the runabout's flight controls, "While I share your disappointment Doctor, all six away teams have turned up nothing worth salvaging." He Shrugs, "It is what it is. We'll just have to keep trying."

"If we have the time! That's an entire month wasted. And here I teased Marren for taking so long to find out where we are." in the reflection of the runabout's window Samedi can see the Gaeni doctor rubbing his bald red-skinned scalp with a silver gloved hand, his other arm resting casually on the small craft's communication panel as he leans back in his chair, "And here I am, Gaeni scientist extraordinaire. Can't dig up anything new worth salivating over in an entire system of strange and unique ships."

"I'm sure that the Captain appreciates the few artifacts and scans that we have recovered from these vessels." Samedi offers.

"While interesting for the cause of knowledge as a whole, we have failed to perform our actual task. Some scattered materials stores and scans of ships that are more brittle metal chips aren't that useful, even if they are 500,000 year old metal chips. Not without a context greater than 'this particular bit of metal was once part of something spaceborn'. I just don't like ending up empty handed."

Samedi's brown eyes flick between the Doctor's face and various telemetry updates, "Be that as it may doctor, no one's gotten hurt. I much prefer a boring month, than one spent fighting for our lives against Imperial Orion Cyaugs."

"Aha!"

Samedi boggles as the Doctor smiles. Actually smiles!

"Ah, to have a chance to examine those cybernetics. Oh how fascinating they must be." the tense fog in the runabout's air abruptly dissipates all at once, "March of Progress! Now there's a name for a ship!" the Gaeni's smile on the topic becomes too broad for Samedi's tastes, "And her technology is equally fascinating, those stasis pods have been working for over a thousand of your Earth years. Absolutely fascinating."

"I'm sure that eventually the Captain will order us to recover her."

"Indeed." the Gaeni straightens up in his chair, rubbing his chin, "You know, lieutenant, I'm sure that you're right." he nods his head towards Samedi, lowering his voice slightly, "I'd like to find out what her deal is too. That's not a normal crew compliment for an Imperial vessel. And the stasis compartments certainly aren't standard. Oh yes, I'm certainly interested in what her deal is."

Mission [Arrival Graveyard Salvage]: Unsuccessful

Assigned Characters: Dr. Naad Hath-Set, Lieutenant Kahar Samedi

Outcome: Despite their best efforts, our salvage team was unable to recover anything useful.

Reward: 2br, 2sr

The door whooses aside and Maryam Ajam and Raelin step through into a room of Pride of Kadesh that they've never seen before.

The room is large and in the main sparsely decorated, with the exception of the walls which are mostly covered in status screens and traditional Kadeshi wall tapestries.

Maryam sets down a white and red striped bundle on a side table as she nervously uses both hands to smooth out her crimson uniform as he looks across the couple dozen or so individuals in the room, dressed much more informally than she is.

Stargazer's Captain sideyes her husband's more casual clothing, still of a very Amarki martial cut. But a martial cut of a very relaxed sort, light material and brightly coloured, "Why am I the only one dressed so formally?"

"Because you wouldn't listen to me earlier, and a lifetime in Starfleet has broken your fashion sense my lady Captain."

Maryam pouts, "That's no explanation, you've been in the order of the lion just as long!"

"Ah! My dear, I'm just naturally fashionable." he mimics prayer with his hands, "All the many gods and goddesses willing, Ayishah gets her fashion sense from me."

"Well I think my uniform looks smart and sophisticated."

Raelin changes the topic by pointing to the center of this gathering, where Karen Sarjan stands awkwardly in a group of other Kadeshi, "I think we should go give our greetings to the birthday girl."

-

"Three days ago, I've just arrived at my office when Maryam calls me." Raelin pauses, "Not a normal call either! She is completely in a panic. Totally flustered."

"Oh no." Maryam Ajam blushes deep enough that she feels that the dark cream of her cheeks might now match the crimson of her uniform jacket, "Heaven help me."

Raelin's grin grows wider, mischievous, "Hey eyes are wide and she's waving this little white thing around. 'Raelin," she says, 'Ayishah's lost another tooth!' she said." he chuckles, "Now, that's not unusual. I think to myself, well, kids lose teeth all the time. And she hadn't panicked the first few times it happened, but now she's waving one around and says to me 'I've called Dr. S'jem! She's lost another tooth!' Naturally I was both worried and confused."

"You can't blame me!" Maryam can feel the heat rising to her cheeks, "It was a completely normal reaction for any Human mother!"

Raelin raises a single finger, "I ask her what the issue is and she tells me, 'Ayishah lost the same tooth again, she's lost two of the same tooth! She's losing her adult teeth'" Raelin looks at Maryam's blushing and his smile widens, "So, I just stare at her."

"I didn't know!"

Karen's expression is blank for a bit and then she cocks her head, and raises an eyebrow, "What didn't she know?"

"Amarki teeth run along slightly different principles to Human ones. It's not unusual for an Amarki to go through three or even four sets of teeth in childhood"

"Humans have two sets!" Maryam holds up two fingers in the air, "Two! Baby teeth and adult teeth. That's it."

Raelin slips his arm around Maryam's waist, "I laughed, no deception at all on my part, I laughed a lot."

Maryam mocks up a frown that covers her own amusement.

Raelin relents, "But then I remembered worrying myself about the length of Ayishah's ears a few years ago. As slow ear growth is a telltale sign of childhood onset Silneass syndrome." his expression moves from amusement to a distant smile as he speaks, "But, that's just her. Our Ayishah, lovely and unique in every way."

"Ohp! I almost forgot!" Maryam snaps her fingers, and looks around the room, "Where did that go…?"

"The present?" Raelin turns around and points at a side table, to where a small paper package sits next to a lamp, "You put it down when we first got here."

"A present?" Karen cranes her neck to look at the object that Maryam is snatching up from her side table.

"You know, a Birthday gift!" Ajam smiles, "I figured that this year would be a good time to give you something for your birthday!"

Karen stares blankly at Maryam, then turns to look at Raelin, utter bafflement creeping across her features.

Raelin leans forward, "It's a Human thing," he pats Ajam's arm, "just humour her."

"Plenty of different peoples give gifts on birthdays!" says Ajam indignantly, holding out something wrapped in paper in front of her, "Many Apiata queens give out presents to their daughters, Risans love their surprise birthday parties, and a form of birthday giving giving is popular in Qloathi circles. Oh! The Caldonians do it too! It's perfectly normal!"

Karen takes the proffered gift carefully. She gives it a long look, taking in the white and red stripes of the wrapping paper, and then turns the package around in her pale hands over and over again, feeling the softness of the gift inside which gives way under her probing fingertips. Quizzically she begins working at the blue ribbon tied around the paper, puzzling at the bow on top, "Now, is there a… trick to this?"

"You can just-" Maryam makes an inscrutable and utterly unintelligible gesture with her hands in front of her, "-just rip that paper off."

Karen blinks and stops tugging at the ribbon, "Just rip the paper apart?" she frowns, "That seems like a waste."

Raelin nods enthusiastically, "That's what I tell her every year. Such an awful waste."

"It's fine." Ajam bumps Raelin with her left elbow, "Don't listen to him. That's what you're supposed to do with wrapping paper. Just grab a corner and rip away!"

Karen runs her hand over the paper until a fingertip catches on a fold, "Alright." she steadies herself and rips into the paper, and after a brief and valiant struggle pulls a piece of smooth cloth from within the now shredded wrapping paper.

"It's a headscarf!" Supplies Maryam helpfully, gesturing at her head, "You tie it around your head and…" she waves her hands in a revelatory manner, like a magician pulling a small non-threatening animal from his hat, "I think it'd look nice."

Karen reaches up with her free hand and brushes the short month and a half's worth of hair growth on her head, "Thank you." she says, looking at the scarf with a half smile, "I suppose I'll can give this look a try before I head back into the tank."

There's a long pause where Karen worries at the material of the headscarf in her hands, "So, I understand that your recovery of USS Constitution went well?" she says, looking up at Maryam and Raelin again.

"No issues at all. After what happened with March of Progress, I was worried that something might go wrong."

"But nothing did, once we were able to assert that her frame could take the strain, a couple of utility haulers from Pride were all it took to drag her over to Gardener's position."

Karen remembers to break into a slight smile, "So, should we be expecting to add Constitution to our fleet soon?"

"I am all but certain that we can restore this old ship to the service that she was born to. The main issue is if we'd want to refit her to a dash A or dash B configuration during her refurbishment." Raelin holds up one hand, palm facing upwards, "The dash A is designed for five year missions, and is better able to carry out diplomacy." he holds up the other palm, "But the dash B costs less, takes far less crew, is a faster rebuild, and is more combat capable."

"Either way, the bulk of her crew would be Kadeshi, even with our spare personnel we're still short for a full Starfleet crew. Unless we…" Ajam stares off into the middle distance, "Move our cross trained Kadeshi personnel onto Starfleet vessels, freeing up officers and crew for Constitution..."

"I would bring that up with the Captain's Council if I were you."

Raelin strokes his beard, "Yes, you should, but you'd also have to go through the spacer's committees and the clan committees, though they'd probably agree with whatever Starfleet assesses as necessary."

Ajam nods, "Though, either way, that's a decision that doesn't need to be made now."

Karen nods back and an uneven silence breaks into the conversation, and Ajam weighs the merits of moving on before deciding not to. "So, Lt. Partok tells me that you're keeping busy yourself?"

"Yes, Hanna and Sharen are asking for my help in selecting my own replacements." there's a far-away look in her eyes, and she stops worrying at the cloth in her hands, "Fleet Command isn't a job I'd wish on my worst enemy. It's a burden of such weight that I can't-"

The woman also known as Fleet Command breaks off mid sentence and sighs like a shuttle coming to a final rest after a long journey, "My mother keeps telling me that I should stop thinking of myself as a 'living martyr'." she looks across the room at a Kadeshi woman speaking with Ambassador na'Threx, "It's not all bad. There's a lot to recommend it. Especially when you have a clarity of purpose and…" she closes her eyes lets out a breath.

"Hey, we're here." Maryam smiles gently, "We can talk about something else if you want."

Sarjan shakes herself, "No, it's fine. The self recrimination isn't painful as they used to be." she takes in a deep breath, reinflating herself, "My worry is that whoever we find to work with me wont be up to the task in a time of crisis. I was part of Pride for four years."

Raelin strokes his beard, "Someone had to be the first. Such is the way of all knowledge. Now that you've blazed the path, you can be a teacher to all who follow."

Sarjan brightens up slightly, "Ulin is actually speaking to me as well, scientist to scientist, they're working on new interface technology for Pride. Now that we have years of data and experience to look at." Karen pulls the headscarf over her head, and ties it in place, "

"Oh! I've seen their reports." Maryam points vaguely in the direction of Pride's armoured core, "They think that it might be possible to dispense with the full immersion tank and move to dry connections. So that the connection doesn't need to be permanent."

"Yes!" Sarjan's eyes sparkle, "Ulin has been a great help. There are some concepts that it is hard to get across in words, but since they're a telepath, we can exchange concepts directly!"

"I gather that's where the adjutant idea came from?"

"Yes, having someone in one of those secondary connections assisting Fleet Command would be very helpful. And it could begin acclimatize someone to serving as Fleet Command later."

"Understandable, I gather that the search for candidates is going excellently as well?" Raelin nods across the room at Ambassador na'Threx, "Sharen was telling me that he's seen a lot of volunteers so far."

"Yes" Karen adjusts her headscarf, catching her reflection in the glass of a nearby screen, "A number of Kadesh, a few of your own officers, and even one or two Federation civilians." Karen squints and her eyes go blank, searching her memory, "Like that Indorian engineer. Or that Vulcan girl, the daughter of one of Hope's doctors."

"Good to hear." Ajam looks away at the entrance of Karen's quarters, as a Kadesh in orange service coveralls steps into the room, pushing a small cart loaded with food in front of him, "Is anyone else hungry?" she looks at Karen, "I think some of those are fresh fruits from hydroponics."

"Hmm… Yes, what say you Karen?" Raelin turns to follow his wife's gaze, "What say we raid the victuals platter?"

There may be something out there.

A lot of somethings. In the event that they are hostile to our continued existence it may be handy to have something solid in place.

With the assistance of Pride of Kadesh and one of our engineering vessels it should be possible to throw up a basic outpost at the current location of Pride of Kadesh and the Gardener resourcing platform.

Hearthkeeper, Gardenkeeper, Bastion, and Rigger are available to conduct construction while Watchkeeper continues the rebuild off Oathkeeper.

[Mission]
[Conduct Subspace Corridor Research]
Commander Rr'rou believes that studying the mangled remains of probes sent into Arrival's subspace corridors will give us a greater understanding of this phenomenon. And hopefully, eventually, a way to use them to return home to the Milky Way galaxy.

This mission will require a not insignificant amount of resources from our stockpile as Rr'rou believes that the secret to success is in having hundreds of probes to send into the twisting nether that is Arrival's subspace corridors that eventually we will be able to put together a full picture of the conditions inside from the mangled remains of the probes that return.

[Mission]
[Investigate Precursor Locations 1]
Acting on the data provided by Karen Sarjan, we have plotted courses to three sites with a possible Preserver presence. The nearest of these is in NCG-185-RRV-9576: at a travel time of two weeks directly out and two weeks directly back, this by far the closest location.

As the Kadeshi fleet is focused on the defence and repair of Pride of Kadesh, only Stargazer is free to undertake this mission.

This mission requires Captain Ajam and at least two other characters to be assigned
[ ] [Investigate]

[Mission]
[Arrival Graveyard Recovery]
Thanks to the efforts of Knight-Captain Raelin and his team, we have identified four derelicts within the Arrival debris field that could be recovered and converted to our own use.

HIMS March of Progress is a massive command dreadnaught from the end of the Orion Empire whose advanced technology is outweighed by her heavy damage. And there's also the issue of the possibly hostile Orion personnel currently kept in stasis inside her hull.

HIMS Maiden of Twilight is a much smaller exploration cruiser from the height of the Orion Empire who is culturally and technologically equivalent to a Starfleet Constitution-A class vessel. She does not have possibly hostile Orion personnel currently kept in stasis inside her hull.

Hope(?) is a small ship of unknown design and origin. She also carries over forty thousand definitely non-Orion people of unknown demeanour in stasis inside her hull. Her remaining cargo holds appear to be filled with all the material and spare supplies needed to start a colony.

During recovery, the total cost and time to rebuild them to a usable state will be assessed, and then a new Mission ordered to conduct repairs whenever is convenient for the Fleet.

Mission Time: One Month
Reward: Information, XP

[Mission]
[Recommission USS Constitution]
USS Constitution, NCC-1700 is a sister ship of Kirk's famed USS Enterprise NCC-1701, and is a Starfleet Constitution class starship lost in 2270. Aside from the problem of her life support system catastrophically failing and killing her crew, she's surprisingly intact.

Thanks to her relatively intact state, a wealth of plans and knowledge about her design, and Pride of Kadesh's cavernous construction bays, it is more than possible to rebuild and recommission this vessel.

The only question is whether to refit her to -A or -B status

The dash A is the well known late 23rd century Starfleet explorer, and is fully equipped for independent operations and a Five Year Mission. The classic pocket explorer.

Projected -A Line:
C4 S3 H3 L3 P4 E6 R5
Crew needs: 4 units of officer crew, 5 of enlisted, and 5 of technician
Base Cost: 30br, 30br
Base Time: Six months until launch

The dash B trades no longer being able to conduct a FYM for increased automation reducing crew requirements dramatically, heavier armament, and reduced diplomatic capability. A decent stop-gap cruiser.

Projected -B stat line:
C5 S3 H3 L4 P3 E5 R6
Crew needs: 2 units of officer crew, 4 of enlisted, and 3 of technician
Base Cost: 30br, 20sr
Base Time: Five months until launch

You may assign up to three characters to this mission.

-You may initiate this mission without assigning characters, but completion time and cost will be increased by a random amount between one to three months and 10 to 20 resources of each type.-

[You current resources: 154 br, and 134 sr, and 2O, 2E, and 2T]
[ ] [Refurbish: Constitution-A]
[ ] [Refurbish: ConnieBee]

[Mission]
[Arrival Graveyard Salvage]
Thanks to the efforts of Knight-Captain Raelin and his team, we have identified a number of derelict hulls which, though badly damaged, are still salvageable.

A thorough investigation of these hulks will hopefully provide us with advanced or exotic technologies to refit our current vessels with.

Mission Time: One Month

I'm very much in favor of getting another 5YM capable ship, if only to free up Stargazer to scout another location.

Second in priority methinks is getting Arrival better fortified again, whether it's habitation or additional resource extraction (or both?). that said, I don't think more than 2 are worth not salvaging the Hope or Twilight

Third priority, salvage the Hope or Twilight if only one fortify option above is taken. If Twilight is salvaged, I could be talked into refitting Connie to a Bee
