[X] A tactical gambit by the United Empire forces manages to strike a devastating blow to the Divine Navy's forces

'Tis the darkest hour for the United Empire forces yes, but remember this, and remember it well:

After courage and valor have long since fled, the day will be won by the guy who remembered to bring reinforcements to the party.
— Schlock Mercenary

Ok, So. Its sounds like We will win this battle, no matter what option we choose but the aftermath will be different.

[ ] A tactical gambit by the United Empire forces manages to strike a devastating blow to the Divine Navy's forces
Hmm, I think that This would give the best chance for the enemy to retreat in good order. Their admiral would still be alive and he could mitigate losses once the battle was for certain lost. On the other hand I think this would lead to the lowest loss of our own forces.

[ ] The Divine Navy's Admiral, Lord Grangier, is killed in combat, sending the enemy into chaos again
This option will liklylead to the enemy splintering into a hundred pieces and leaving a bunch of small but annoying fleets scattered around our space, Possibly acting like pirates. With the chain of command beheaded They will probably crumble piecemeal. On the other hand, The enemy Admiral is guaranteed dead.

[ ] The battle of attrition reaches its ultimate outcome
This I feel like will lead to the almost complete destruction of the enemy fleet. Losses will be sustained until it is just plain untenable anymore. On the other hand that applies to us and will likely lead to the greatest amount of losses for our fleet.
Of course all of this is what I think they will lead to, SO i'm probably not right.

[X] The battle of attrition reaches its ultimate outcome

I'm going to go for this one. it will be painful, But I think that the Destruction of as much of the enemy here as possible is for the best, and preventing the possibility of raiding/Privateering fleets inside of our space or an ordered retreat.

TBH, I think the outcome of killing the admiral is "The commissars and political officers take final command of the fleet and order a suicide charge to kill as many of our people as they can before they finally die, using their own hulls as weapons as needed".

They can't retreat, because those selfsame political officers threw out their retreat paths and ability to sustain themselves so that the enlisted and other officers know it's either win or die, and they can't surrender because they've committed so many atrocities on this campaign that nobody would take them in.

They're fighting to the death regardless, I feel--and what we're picking here is "In what specific fashion does their ability to fight collapse". Do they lose simply because they ran out of munitions and fuel? Do they lose because a heroic charge hit exactly the right spot and shattered their ability to wage war under the teeth of our defensive guns? Or do they lose because their final commander died in battle and they had nobody left to take official command? And the 'Consequences' of such will be the natural consequences of that outcome. (Attrition's cost is obvious. They don't have the strength left for any "Well fuck you too heretics moves, but our own military force was ground down to the bone trying")

I don't like the attrition option. The enemy admiral, maybe if someone has a strong argument regarding his thought processes I might be persuaded to vote for him, but as it stands this feels like the safest option. We don't know how the lower rank officers will react (possibly by fleeing or dying, possibly by zealotry and dying), and we aren't entirely sure how the admiral will act either, but this option gives us a solid advantage for the rest of the battle so we'll probably pull a good win either way.

One thing i like.. is there is no plot armor.

Oh sure our girl survives. And even perhaps Gloriana.

But the rest would have to face reality that our option matters. If not the next chapter then the other.

We *voted for the rose to be heavily damaged to spare greater lost to the fleet as a whole a while back.

I.. kinda like it. It makes you relate to your character.

[X] The Divine Navy's Admiral, Lord Grangier, is killed in combat, sending the enemy into chaos again

At this point a slugfest of mutual destruction is not what we want. We need to preserve as much as fleet and mechs as possible.
We want them to start thinking about retreating, and while they're retreating, we kill the best of them.

My read on Grangier, is that the man will not order a retreat.. here's gabling with him dead, the devine fleet with be thrown into chaos and some, hopefully all, will retreat.

And here's hoping North got promoted.

This would be a tactical edge is gained, and when combined with the fact that the other side has no viable fallback position much a supply route that process individual ship captains have to decide between following all the ships that are now dying in bulk, or surrender in the hopes their men will receive a bit of mercy. Admitedly many will go down fighting, and many others will be shot by political officers, but there were a considerable number of prisoners from the previous battle.

Considering he wasn't a fanatic I'm worried this will result in aforementioned fanatics taking over parts of the enemy forces to our detriment.
[ ] The battle of attrition reaches its ultimate outcome
This makes me inclined to think we're selecting what is the nature the opposition loses, and attrition isn't what I'm inclined to go with.

This has my vote for the moment.

Hyuuu~...Yanno something?
Now, part of this could just be I've a bias towards elitism. Maybe even a bit of tribal pride, or maybe just the effects of the different player input structures... but I've long thought SV...Is not nearly as good at strategy and tactics as TGchan is. Oh sure, you guys know how to min-max your growth, but this Quest I feel like has basically shown in very certain terms our weaknesses.
We've so long taken hits in the present to make for a better future, but it rather seems like many of the trade-offs we hoped for didn't come to pass, instead...Well, I've said it before, and I'll vote with it.
ARTEMIS! SHOOT FOR VICTORY!

It seems more like "This story was always, always going to suck, and our choices were to determine in what fashion they would suck"

I've known Gazetteer for many years.

I would not have expected Lori to survive this last update if we hadn't voted her some good vibes.

I mean considering how faithful this quest is to the genre that spawned it there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Glory hadn't gotten her vote plot armor she would've been a goner. Tomino would absolutely be proud.

My heart

Why must you do this

Well, we voted to blow up the Rose again, so this really doesn't come as a surprise. :p

I also half-suspect that J6's death was at least partially caused by voting to save Perbeck. In the zero-sum world of Petals of Titanium, those friendly forces which saved Perbeck had to come from somewhere...

Let's hope this goes better than it did in IBO.

Going for the battle of attrition is not the fast way. I'd go for a tactical gambit, for that decisive battle KANTAI KESSEN memes.

Killing the enemy leadership in a decapitation strike sounds tempting, esp if like me you've been pkaying Anchorhead Raid and periodically killing off the Erusean Navy's senior leadership as they try to flee, but the problem with decapitation strikes is thst the enemy has no leader tomcall things off and surrender.

Is... Is there literally any hope in this quest?
I genuinely do not want you to read my writing if it's actually like, upsetting for you!
Sort of in the same boat here, which is why I haven't been voting. I want no part of whatever awfulness comes up for us next.

Since I first found this quest it's just been noble sacrifice after crippling strategic loss after pointless death. And I'm sort of tired of even keeping up in reading this thing because it's so damn depressing. And it just keeps on...

" here are some people you get to know. Here is the situation. Here are some options. Take some hits to the war effort or I will cut your fucking heart out".

Might have to un-follow soon. Sorry. :(

That was wrenching. Very good, but heartwrenching.

That, and I think it's specifically due to the Outer Fleet taking heavy attrition- J6 wasn't the only outer fleeter to lose their lives in the choice that saves Glorys' squad.

While attrition feels more appropriate, I'd rather not surrender all hope just yet.
So, in hopes of shortening the conflict with something approaching a decisive move-
