Fear Cuts Deeper Than Swords: A Song of Ice and Fire/D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder Quest

[X] Domeric Bolton, Cleanser of the Dreadfort

This will be quite explosive indeed. A nice and proper purging, assuming the character does not die for the impertinence.

Let not the anemic spell progression fool you; PF paladin casts with CHA and has several both unique as well as undercast magic.

Along with excellent AC, amazing saves, an inherent magical weapon or magical mount, as well as the social skills to lead.

Only thing that hurts is 2+INT, but that can be mitigated by somewhat higher starting intelligence and the bonus stuff QM offers.

Changing my vote after further thought, playing a Paladin would hurt my brain.

I'm not quite sure on the difference (I've played 3.5 fairly extensively, but Pathfinder is less familiar; I am relying on the SRD for that), but I would assume 3.5.

For Paladin casting, are we using 3.5 or Pathfinder? That'll determine stats and DCs. Pathfinder uses Charisma for access and DCs. 3.5 uses Wisdom.

People, we are playing a quest about the return of magic and you are choosing to hit things with a sword.

Paladins have magic. Also, there's less of a chance of us getting burnt at the stake by the peasants.
Domeric is a Bolton. He has a premade bad reputation thanks to the legacy of the Red Kings as well as being the son of Roose.

Fortunately for him the smallfolk around the Dreadfort are thoroughly beaten into submission.

After the entire Game of thrones series worth of Aswah? Sounds refreshing. Sorry.

Bah! Builds character! (For Domeric I mean)

He's been fostered outside of the Dreadfort for seven years.

@Zioneer
Also got a potential PF Paladin stat line (using 3.5 point buy) to work with.

Str: 16
Dex: 12
Con: 14
Int: 12
Wis: 10
Cha: 16

The quest starts when Viserys is 13. By the current timeline 4 years later Viserys is vastly different from his canon character, but I like to think I handled the transition in a sensible and believable way.
I wouldn't call Viserys an original character in ASWAH, just a very different version of himself, one who had very different formative experiences following the death of Willem Darry.

Magic, it's a hell of a drug...

There is no Northwanking in ASWAH, either, and Dorne gets a lot more love. Oberyn makes appearances every so often, and we've lost track of how many potential half-human children he might have fathered in recent years.
He is played faithfully: he is still immensely arrogant, he thinks he knows best, his ambition is absurd.

The difference is that he can back it up, has a phenomenal sense of duty (which is well IC due to him seeing his kingdom and subjects as part of his hoard), and generally isn't an asshole.

The quest starts just as Canon Viserys likely started to become what he was by the book start. One of the pivotal moments was certainly the death of William Darry.

We fortunately manage to avoid a lot of the bad, due to instead of being robbed and thrown into the streets, we became a first level sorcerer and stopped the servants from fucking with us.

That's fair. I still think that a Viserys with actual power would probably be worse than canon Viserys, and dislike, on principle, the idea of such a contemptible character being forced into a mold of likability because he's the player avatar. Maybe I'll check it out sometime and see if the actual execution changes my mind? It's so damn long by this point that I kinda doubt I'll have the attention span, though. :V

Either way, still voting for Dayne. :p

His squiring in the Vale essentially made him BFFs with the Redforts, and likely a fair few people into the Redfort sphere of influence, so at least there we've got a good rep.

The ominous rep should be pretty well negated by being of such an ancient and storied lineage.

I don't think Roose has been falling people left and right either, at least not in public.

Let's rock.

*starts going through full Pathfinder spell list*

PF Paladins are pretty cool, their Lay on Hands has a bunch of effects (including Raise Dead without diamonds), they get Channeling like PF Clerics, and spel list ain't remotely bad.

Especially with Battle Blessing, we get to essentially be a magus.

Why did I have to go and shoot myself in the foot?

*sigh*

At least Imry would be a more distinct class, if going fullcaster is the issue.

Even if PF Pally is great.

On second thought, being the heir of the second-most powerful House in the North appeals to me. That is a lot of starting resources at our disposal.

*slightly traumatized from playing as a PC in poverty for months*
