The Restless Dead Want YOU To Fight Necromancy

I gotta say, with the SOUTH already zombified....

How much government do we think is gonna survive this?
Fear not! On the other hand, I'm sure plenty of your plant friends will survive, with fewer plant-eaters in existence!

You could say the situation down there is really... going South.

[X]A little more power, a twist in your chant, and no necromancy can stand in your way.

Just do the closing lesson. They know modern medicine and modern society better than we do. Let them come up with the plan for what to do with the information we're giving them.

Warn the camera that necromantic energy might be left behind when they try to replicate this ritual. It might be a good idea to put a medical alert bracelet on the patients, saying something like "in case of death, BEHEAD CORPSE". Add your observations about the area of the brain that seems necessary for the zombies to function.

49. This Could Have Gone Much Worse

Willpower: 2/4 (fine)
Hunger: -11/-30 (very hungry)
Spirit: 4.9

You bring your chant to a pause, and smile for the camera. It wouldn't do to confuse the two rituals. The energy is still high, and you push onwards immediately.

It is a minor thing, this energy, and could be cleansed with fasting and prayer and salt water baths, but you don't like leaving things unfinished, or giving people an incomplete lesson. You speak the most basic binding of the dead, the sort you might use to reanimate zombie sparrows, and twist skeins of dark energy out from where they hide within living flesh. You leave nothing behind to lurk, because your will is absolute. You feed the energy into the circle of purification, and the three candles flare high and the yew and sage burst into flames as well.

"Can we put those out before the sprinkler system activates?" Ken asks.

You lower your hands from where you were conducting the energy.

"Yes, you can move around now. We're done. For those watching, the first section is the curse breaking and the second second is the cleansing. You could probably have a reasonably skilled apprentice do the cleansing, should you have one."

You douse the flames with a wave of your hand. Somehow, that, not the long ritual where you chanted and saved their lives, gets the odd looks. Humans.

"Thank you," interrupts a crying woman, and then there are a number of different people to reassure and tell yes, you're welcome, you're going to be fine, I'm sure the army has things in hand.

[]You should take a few minutes to introduce yourselves to everyone and learn their stories.

I can't decide whether I'm happy or not that the dice keep being nice to you guys.

@aldersprig You can do as many as you like, as long as you're willing to spend the time. You have the power.

Hunger getting worse

Likewise, we're going to have to do something about this whole "Chosen one" thing. That's going to be interesting.

I feel liek the thing that's gong to have the largest overall impact on the country and the world is passing along whatever we've learned to the governmental types about how this plague works, if we haven't covered that enough already.

Then there's the general "look into getting additional blood bound" thing. That's something that takes time to do right, and it's easy to put off, but we kind of need to make sure it happens.

Putting up the ward around the hospital would help with preserving the town a bit, and help us establish additional legitimacy for our whole feudal thing. "I serve as your protector against the death that hunts you" basically is the core of what we're offering, after all.

Hunger getting worse
It's not, though. We had three mugs full of blood while we were here. We're less starved than we have been all quest (by a point or two).

Admittedly, pushing the starvation meter towards zero is still a good thing, but....

I can't decide whether I'm happy or not that the dice keep being nice to you guys.
The dice fall where they may! Pseudorandom number generators are all the same, blatant mockeries of the real thing!

Hovering around -10 hunger is decent for now.

[X]You should take a few minutes to introduce yourselves to everyone and learn their stories.

Let's make sure everyone is alright!

[X]You should take a few minutes to introduce yourselves to everyone and learn their stories.

Correct misapprehensions about who or who not may have things in hand. Maybe make new connections, maybe get more minions, maybe get more people grateful to give blood.

I don't know that we necessarily have the time to do general schmoozing right now. My thought....

[x]You should talk to Nina from the CDC.
-[X]give information about zombies, ostensibly sharing what we know, asking about what they know
-[X] See if the CDC has any thoughts on what the best place to ward would be

Nina is a representative of the federal government, and will be feeding them information on the zombie plague. That means that feeding her said information will help the country in general. Having the country in general hold together will help with that whole "not sliding into barbarism" thing.

Ken is a potential blood bond candidate who also has a lot of influence here and a deeply conflicted opinion of us. This is a great opportunity to tweak that opinion to the positive, and having him say good things about us rather than bad things about us would help.

It's currently a bit after midnight. Does anyone know what else we had planned for the night? That seems pretty pertinent as far as how long we can afford to spend here doing useful things.

The hospital is a *great* place for a secondary stable location, and setting one up, especially right after the healing ritual, is going to do some nice things both for our legitimacy, and possibly for the safety of the city overall.

edit: @TheCrownedVassal had some good thoughts on the subvote for Nina. I have added them.

Our current Plan is
[]Plan I'm the Boss
-[][Martial]Fight some zombies. Those ones on your front lawn must have come from a nearby hotspot. Clear it out. 1 hour.
-[][Stewardship]Job assignments. You have a lot of people here, and the only way to manage a lot of people is to assign them to manage each other. Hand out work. Make someone else deal with the large pile of zombie corpses. 1 hour.
(Then we can make assessing the results of the shopping trip someone else's job)
-[][Personal]Spend time with your new household. You're going to be relying on them, and you barely know any of them. Work on fixing that. ½ hour
-[][Personal]Remember to eat.
--[]Ask a member of your household to oblige you. 15 minutes.
-[][Stewardship]Call your accountant. This is not a good time to be trusting the human stock market with your resources. Also, you want that book on technomancy. ½ hour.
--[]Write-in: is anyone we're assigning tasks to really good with long-term money planning?
-[][Magic]Research a spell. Today, you've promised you'll figure out a ritual to cleanse necromantic taint from the victims at the hospital. 2 hours, 2 hunger/spirit. Must be included in today's plan or Morgan will be sad.
-[][Magic]Research zombies. A broader survey through your books might give you more ideas about strategies to try. You have a ward against the undead you've never bothered using (for obvious reasons). Maybe you could make it apply only to zombies, if you use the zombie head? You could avoid people needing to camp on your front lawn. 1:45.
--[] [Write-in] Assign one member of your household to do a rough first-search of your books to save you time. We probably don't need books that focus soley on horticulture right now, f'rinstance. (part of assigning tasks, above; probably the college kid)
-[][Personal]Relaxation time. Listen to music, read a book, go walk in the woods and look at the creek. 1 hour, regenerates willpower.

The stuff in bold is the stuff left to do. Technically, we haven't called our accountant, but it is being taken care of.
We have 1h45min research-time scheduled, as well as an hour of relaxation, with approximately 5(?) hours til dawn (confirmation, Wysteria?), so I think we have plenty of time.

[X]You should talk to Nina from the CDC.

Morgan is also planning to see if they can contact the werewolves, around dawn, but yes, that's the plan. A little under six hours until dawn, and you have some cleanup to do to finish the ritual up.

I wonder if I should stick current plans someplace accessible for folks to look up. Hm.

If Morgan puts up a ward around the hospital, do they know how that will affect people who are infected but not yet zombies? If an infected person already inside the wards dies and becomes a zombie, would the ward do anything to the zombie?

I think what I want is

The CDC has much less experience than Morgan with zombies, but they do have more experience with infectious diseases, so maybe they'd have some useful insights? A safe place that isn't Morgan's house definitely sounds like a good idea, and maybe the hospital is the best place for it, but I'm not sure.

Right now a ward would be a flat ward against the undead. Undead that came within the boundaries would burst into fire or something. Cursed living people would not trigger it.

It would mean Morgan couldn't visit the hospital anymore (at least while this version of the ward was active). An infected person turning within the ward would not be a big deal.

We want to give the human people a safe place to ... be safe. Even if we're not safe there.

I probably should have made this a plan vote, since folks want to do more than one thing. I think I'll just treat the votes as a priority list. Right now, top priorities are warding the hospital and talking to the CDC.
