The dead stalk the night, the Wizards wage a secret war for the future of human thought (and the universe), and wolf-men fight against the oncoming apocalypse...

You are not one of them. You are a Solar Exalted, a modern person with the powers of the ancient heroes of a forgotten age. The world is ending , and you are humanity's last, best, hope.

Seventy Seven Ways to Kill a Vampire

1.1

It's another rainy, dismal autumn night. The lights of the city are reflected in hazy puddles, and the sounds of passing cars, rain, and rowdy club goers rule the night. It's cold, but not that cold. Just cold enough that you slip your hands in your pockets, but not so cold that it lends the night pathos.

You wave your boss goodbye, packing up mats and practice gear. The late night sessions might bring in a new clientele, but having to clean up after them is worse than cleaning up after the kids' classes. At least none of them have divorces or promotions to worry about, and none of them drink in the locker room.

You put away the last of the mats, wipe away some of the sweat that's started to drip again, and lie back against the peeling wall of the club's only practice room. Your practice sword lies somewhat forlorn on the ground, all beat up and looking as tired as you. You should buy a new one soon, but you're not exactly making top dollar teaching martial arts to bored housewives, overworked cubicle drones, and excitable children.

This isn't where you thought you'd be at twenty-three. You dropped out of university, you barely make minimum wage, and you live in an office as an act of charity from your boss. How did it come to sitting here, resting wet hair against peeling paint, you wonder.

You bring your knees up to your chest, listening to the rain and trying to ignore Henry. He's stayed behind to talk to you again, all charm and empty smile and I-don't-want-to-be-alone-with-him vibes. You want to tell him to fuck off, but he basically pays your wages with how much shit he buys through the club.

"Hey," you say, trying not to sound like you want to be anywhere else.

"That was a tough one, eh?" he asks, and his gratingly Canadian voice sets you on edge.

"Yeah, Ivo's not exactly a laid back guy. It pays off, though," you say, notice Henry step forward a little. It's not much, but it calls attention to how much closer he's gotten. You look into his eyes, and you know there's nothing behind them. Just the beast, a nameless, primal hunger.

He rushes forward, and you roll out of the way. Suddenly, he's fast. Real fast. You take your practice blade, hold it with practised ease, and go to town on the creep. Your first blow is fast and precise, strong and swift. If you were wielding a real blade, if this were a past age, Henry would be dead. In this more civilised age, he'll only have a broken arm.

Only your first blow lands with a crack against his arm. Wood splinters, and not bone. His fist slams into your stomach like he's a heavyweight boxer, not a weedy sysadmin, You stagger back, and you see the fangs in his smile. You see what he is, and you stand. You spit out blood and hold up a broken piece of wood. You look into the eyes of the beast, and he flinches.

Your forehead burns, and time slows. Your whole body burns gold, strength filling you. Light pulses out from you, an almost physical thing. Henry steps back, and your fist flies out. He screams, and you feel his wrist snap. You move with inhuman, precise speed.

A kick shatters his right kneecap, and you avoid a desperate haymaker with a gentle touch. You leap into a flip, connecting with his jaw as you go. Teeth fly everywhere, and you rush forward. Golden light trails behind your broken practice sword and you do your best buffy impression.

You scream, and you slam your broken bit of wood straight into his heart with both hands. The sheer force of it sends Henry flying backward. He slams into the back wall of the club, stiff and unmoving. Dust and paint chips rise into the air, and you look at your hands. They're covered in his blood, but none of your own.

Golden light surrounds you, slowly fading from the brilliance of the sun. You cut a stark silhouette against it - a young woman, lean and athletic. Your dirty-blonde hair frames the burning sigil of light on your forehead well, and your eyes burn bright gold for a few moments more.

You crouch down and look at Henry. His eyes dart this way and that and he looks remarkably alive for a vampire you've just staked through the heart. Or anything you've just pierced straight through the heart, for that matter.

That brings you to a question you'd never thought you'd be asking: what to do with the vampire you just beat the shit out of?

[x] Try and find a way to kill it. It tried to eat you and has probably done so to others before.

[x] You need to find out more about these creatures, and Henry is your only information source. Keep him alive for now.

[x] Write in.

This is a quest using the rules and setting of Exalted vs the World of Darkness. There will be dice rolls, a character sheet, xp to spend, etc. Despite the name, this is a more general WoD interpretation.

Charms
Night Caste Favoured

-Dawn-
By feeding raw Essence into martial endeavour, the Chosen of the Dawn may perform feats of battle far beyond the human norm.
System: Select one of the following Abilities when purchasing this Charm: Alertness, Athletics, Brawl, Drive, Firearms, Intimidation, Melee, or Leadership. At any time, the player may reflexively spend 1 Essence to add three dice to all rolls using this Ability for the rest of the scene. Excellence of the Rising Sun cannot more than double a roll's (Attribute + Ability) total. Alternately, you may add one Willpower to the Charm's activation cost to add as many dice as your (Attribute + Ability) cap will permit, rather than three.

This Charm can be repurchased to unlock additional Abilities, but Essence must be spent to add dice to each Ability separately. Dawn Castes get all versions of this Charm with a single purchase.

The Solar's blows and bullets land with a crash that sends foes flying like leaves in a hurricane.
System: If one of the Solar's attacks inflicts at least two points of damage after soak, the player may send the target flying 10 yards per dot of the Solar's Strength (or reflexively spend 1 Essence to gain this effect even if the attack's damage isn't sufficient to trigger it automatically). Upon landing, they must soak one level of bashing damage, plus an additional level per 10 yards they didn't travel due to striking a hard surface prematurely. This Charm is equally effective whether delivered with a fist, baseball bat, axe, bullet, or whatever else.

The Solar's body is fortified with divine power, enabling her to survive grievous injuries.
System: The character permanently gains an additional set of Bruised (-0), Hurt (-1), and Wounded (-2) health levels.
This Charm can be purchased a number of times equal to the character's Essence rating.

The Solar's attacks burn the undead, the unholy, and other such creatures of darkness like fire.
System: The Solar's attacks inflict aggravated damage against all undead beings, servants of the Wyrm, demons, Nephandi, and similarly depraved monstrosities.

-Night-
The Solar becomes near-weightless, and enjoys perfect balance.
System: The character needs never roll to maintain her balance, no matter how precarious her footing, and may stand or run upon even the weakest or most insubstantial of surfaces, such as falling leaves, individual threads, drops of rain, or even the surface of water. Reflexively spending 1 Essence allows her to run and stand upon walls or even to cling to ceilings.

[X]You need to find out more about these creatures, and Henry is your only information source. Keep him alive for now.

As a brand new Exalt unused to killing I think something human-shaped is too hard when protag both can afford to keep him alive and has an excuse.

I would suggest going through Henry belongings; see if anything sticks out and, if he happens to have a cell.... Go through his contact lists.

Okay in my opinion we need to do this because we are obviously a newcomer to this whole supernatural thing and we need to know more information before we do anything.

Unfamiliar with both settings. But I agree that we need to know more.

Apply glowing forehead to spooky forehead until one breaks.

Also all sysadmins are vampires.

We don't have a damned clue what is going on, and vampires in WoD are more complex and powerful beings than most fiction presents.

Heck, we don't know what sect or this guy belongs to, if he belongs to any sect or clan, he could be a Thin-Blood. So a quick and dirty interrogation could get us a leg up.

Excited to see this, wish it was an Infernal but oh well.

You lean back and stare down at your hand. That was... that was incredible. It was like nothing you'd ever been able to do before, and you could feel the fire in your limbs; the liquid sunlight still pumping through your veins. Whatever just happened, you can still feel that limitless potential. Your forehead still blazes with golden light.

Henry just stares, seemingly paralyzed by the stake to the heart. That was unexpected, you reflect. You were sort of assuming that he'd just die or turn to dust after you drove a bit of broken wood into his heart. Instead, he's just laying there; staring at you.

You crouch down and start going through his pockets. His wallet is fat and inviting, as are the car keys with a fancy German logo. What you're really after, though, is his phone. It's a new-model iPhone, and probably cost more than ten times whatever shitty android handset you have. You turn it on and are disappointed to find a screen asking for a password. Facial recognition or that touch thing would have been much easier. You set the phone down for now, and open up the wallet.

It's stuffed full of bills, and your eyes widen as you take them out. Red twenties, yellow fifties - sure, that's what everyone carries around - but it's been years since you last saw a hundred dollar note. This guy was carrying more than a thousand bucks in them in his wallet. If he hadn't tried to eat you, you'd say he was into some shady shit. As it is, you're just kinda assuming being some form of undead vampire monster meant being involved in shady shit by default.

There are half a dozen cards in the wallet, black and shiny credit cards, dull and white keycards for an office and attached underground parking. There's a business card proclaiming Henry as a senior system administrator for Lachesis Research. You've never heard of them, but they're located here in the CBD. You think about what to take, and then just shove the whole wallet into your pocket.

"So, buddy, it's not looking too good for you, eh?" you say as crouch down next to him. He tries to move, but all he can do is move his eyes around. "Now, I'll be honest and say that I'm just as confused as you are about this whole thing. Vampires being real - crazy shit. Let alone whatever this is," you say, as you gesture towards your forehead. "Now, I'm gonna take this bit of wood out of you and hope that stops this whole paralysis thing. If you wanna stop me from figuring out how to kill things like you by experimentation, you're gonna stay very fucking still," you finish.

You rip the remains of your practice sword from the creature's chest, and he draws in useless air. His eyes are wild, and the sunlight of the mark on your brow dances across his face. He turns away from you, unable to look directly at you. A part of you understands that your power is of the sun, that the mark on your forehead is a symbol of the dawn.

"P-p-please, I wasn't going to - I mean, I only killed that one guy, and that was an accident. I'm not a bad guy, really, please don't hurt me miss scary sun lady!" He babbles, still unable to look at you. A little bit of blood dribbles from his wounds. Bones come back together with cracks and pops, and wounds begin to close - all save that over the vampire's heart. There, the flesh is blackened and burnt.

"So let's have a conversation. Convince me that you're anything but a monster that needs to be put down. 'Cause I'm feeling pretty fucking righteous about figuring out how much I need to stab you to kill you," you say, twirling the broken wooden sword in your hand. You've never killed anyone, but you've hurt people. Hurt them badly, for the right reasons and all the wrong ones.

"Sure, sure. Look, I'm not some centuries old master of the shadows, alright? I've only been a vampire for a few weeks, really. But, uh, what do you want to know?"

"How do I kill things like you - vampires?" you ask.

"Sunlight, um, fire, decapitation... wood through the heart just paralyses us. But just because you beat me up, don't go thinking you can just wail on us all. I mean, I once saw the guy I work for punch a dude through a house!"

"The guy you work for?" your eyes narrow at that. Something useful.

"Yeah, what you gotta understand about vampires is that there are all sorts of rules and regulations. Like, no public stuff - that's the Masquerade. You gotta get permission to make new vampires, and there's all this hierarchy-" he babbles, but whilst this is illuminating, it's not what you're after.

"Who, exactly, do you work for? What do you do for him, and what does he do?" you ask, and turn his head to face yours.

"Thomas Kirk, maybe you've heard of him?" you have heard of him, in fact. He's a local boy, operates out of Carlton, small-time suspected mobster and known shady businessman. "Well, I just do computer stuff for him, man. I'm just the IT guy, I swear I'm not involved with any of the drugs, or the other stuff. I just handle the computers and the money,"

"Now that is more in line with what I wanted to hear. So the question is, what to do with you..."

[x] Kill him. This is a monster that eats people, has killed before, and would likely kill again. [.8x]

[x] You're not quite done with him - stake him again and decide what you want to with him later. [1x]

That decided you turn to your next move. Your forehead has faded, but you can still feel that power within you. Despite what Henry said, you think you could take a vampire. You know that your ability to fight is beyond mortal limits, and you can feel some of your other abilities - peerless grace, blows that could send men flying, and the ability to make steel or flesh burn the undead and the unholy like sunlight. That said, you can't punch a dude through a house. You're tougher now than you were before, but not that tough.

You change into a warm but weathered jacket, combat boots, and the least shitty clothes you own. The katana Ivo gave you, sharp and real, you carry with its sling. You pull up the hood on your jacket, slip Henry's unlocked phone into your pocket, and step out into the night. It's begun to rain, and the cloud cover hangs heavy, but even through all that you can see a new star in the sky. It's bright and red, and you know it for what it is. A portent, a calling.

The night beckons, and you go to...

[x] Investigate Kirk. He's your lead up the vampire chain, and a blight on the city regardless. You need to know more about him before you act. [1.2x]

[x] Burst down Kirk's door. He's your lead up the vampire chain, and a blight on the city regardless. Fuck subtle. [1x]

Vote options have weights to represent how appealing each is to your protagonist. Unless otherwise specified, you may always offer a write-in vote. If needed, a weight will be assigned. You may also stunt existing votes or write-ins. This is writing a short explanation of how you got about something. It will give you a bonus to actions in the pursuit of that vote, generally 1-2 dice. If truly extraordinary, it may grant 3 dice and/or a point of xp. If a stunt has a clear majority, I will choose it. Otherwise, I'll choose the best of the available options compatible with the winning vote.

He probably doesn't know about that if he's been a vampire for a few weeks...I think. I honestly don't know how WoD Vampires treat their new initiates.

I am not sure it is a good idea to leave a 'Dead' body around our workplace.

Honestly, he shouldn't even be running amok. Assuming Camarilla, a fledgling bumbling around could have potentially fatal consequences for him and his sire. So,

Anarch(?)
Autarkis(?)
Somekind of independent clan/bloodline(?)
And Sabbat(?) Which I think is unlikely.

It's closed for the night (probably like 11-12 at night). You also live here :V

Couldn't we just stuff him into a box or something and lock him in a closet?

This seems like fun. My Masquerade is a bit rusty, and my Exalted exclusively picked up through osmosis on this very forum, but hey!
