Sharing a universe with SACQ 3/2: Armor Edition and SACQ 2: Guns, the second. Oh and SACQ 1, which is dead and succeeded by 2.

You are Stefano Tassis, professional project manager. Well, starting today, you are Major-General Stefano Tassis, because the newest project that you have to stop from running into the wall is for the Democratic Republic of Halina. The problem is, they didn't actually tell you what your project was. Except that it was vital for ensuring the continzued existence of the State. And with that also yours.

However, from the names you have been given for your board, you could see that it has something to do with exotic physics that you don't understand. Your options are:

(Chose four)
[]Ivoné Kalinchoff, who claims to have done the actual work behind Gotthards demonstration of induced decay of heavy metals
[]Saúl Cicerón, Professor for theoretical physics at the State University
[]Wing Leader Ariet, who leads the currently plane-less 5th Bombardment Wing
[]"I don't use my first name" Meiar, who does something involving particle separation
[]Isak Radess, who is famous for some complicated physics theory that you do not understand
[] Moritz Rosenstein, theoretical physicist and Werser expatriate who ended up in the country to escape mob debts.
[] Prof. Manuel Diego, a former dean of physics at Escuela de Fe y Patencia in the southern district of the capitol
[] Col. Tien Lombaria, a former director of the Halian Special Weapons Units

The situation of the Democratic Republic of Halina: Twelve years ago the state was founded after the Honorable Rigaz overthrow the Ajawate and declared the Republic. Your nation is rich in natural resources, especially oil, but you lack people, let alone possessing an army. Thus, the Council governing after the death of the Honorable Rigaz is seeking every possible method of defending their nation, and this seems to be one of those projects, just like the gas weapon project was a decade ago. You are expecting a very large budget, but with how high profile some of the names on your shortlist are, that budget will be needed for research, and the number of researchers you can get might be somewhat limited.

[x]Ivoné Kalinchoff, who claims to have done the actual work behind Gotthards demonstration of induced decay of heavy metals
[x]Saúl Cicerón, Professor for theoretical physics at the State University - so there is someone that can dumb it down to our level of understanding.
[x]"I don't use my first name" Meiar, who does something involving particle separation
[x] Col. Tien Lombaria, a former director of the Halian Special Weapons Units

[X]Ivoné Kalinchoff, who claims to have done the actual work behind Gotthards demonstration of induced decay of heavy metals
[X]"I don't use my first name" Meiar, who does something involving particle separation
[X] Prof. Manuel Diego, a former dean of physics at Escuela de Fe y Patencia in the southern district of the capitol

Mix of smart Bois and someone to corral them.

Preferred:
[x] Prof. Manuel Diego, a former dean of physics at Escuela de Fe y Patencia in the southern district of the capitol
Has experience herding cats scientists, but not afraid to do Science either.

[x] Col. Tien Lombaria, a former director of the Halian Special Weapons Units
Has experience actually making the "building weapons" stuff happen, things like delivery systems and logistics. Definitely want. Engineering.

[x]Isak Radess, who is famous for some complicated physics theory that you do not understand
Someone should probably be bringing in deep understanding, or we're at risk of just stumbling around in the dark.

[x] "I don't use my first name" Meiar, who does something involving particle separation
"Something" gives me the impression of hands-on experience with stuff related to our project.

Rejected:
[]Wing Leader Ariet, who leads the currently plane-less 5th Bombardment Wing
Has experience actually causing weapons to be delivered. This is good, but less important for the board. Will rely on the Colonel's more indirect experience with this topic instead.

[] Moritz Rosenstein, theoretical physicist and Werser expatriate who ended up in the country to escape mob debts.
we have theoretical physicists here who are noted for their achievements not their baggage

[]Ivoné Kalinchoff, who claims to have done the actual work behind Gotthards demonstration of induced decay of heavy metals
so did she do it or not? if she did, is she actually key to the effort, or was she just there? this qualification sounds muddy and indirect

[]Saúl Cicerón, Professor for theoretical physics at the State University
What qualifications does he have that a dean doesn't? More recent classroom instruction experience?

This is a crappy way to make a decision but what are you going to do?

I'm going with the Dean, for reasons Tomoyo listed.

I smell a mecha development quest...

Minor postscript replying to myself:

Upon a second reading, the one thing is that his State University employer seems more secular than the School of Faith and Patience.

That's not enough for me to prefer the professor, though. We're here to develop weapons, not to elevate a secular ideology, and even if one were to argue that religion mildly impaired one's ability to comprehend physics, the physics were not the prime reason I picked him.

But consider all this as you will.

Considering the technology and relative time period, I smell something much closer to a very specific project that, IOTL, happened in the New Mexico desert.

Well, I suspect he was intended for if you wanted to add someone who actively specialized in theoretical physics while still potentially having the ability to herd physicists. IIRC, being in charge of the science department at a school doesn't mean you yourself know a very large amount about any given subject in that fairly broad field. Even narrowing it down to physics, that's still a lot to keep track of.

Welcome to the SACQ experience then! If you think you know what you're doing and there's an obvious good decision, then you probably screwed up! Also check out SACQ 3/2 and SACQ 2, both of which offer the same Fun and Engaging play while being slightly more comprehensible in topic.

The power of a can of sun can do many things my friend!

Well when the QM starts levitating while screaming about speed and reaction mass, I guarantee he's not channeling the ghost of Jackie Fisher again.

Three people for actual physics, one person whose able to provide how to USE the thing along with herd people as a director of a unit.

Edit: also wooot finally one of these quests where I know how the topic matter works!!!

OK, time to answer some questions that came up:

No, this quest is not about mecha. You will, as the title very unsubtly hints, be working on nukes
The physics Dean vs the professor: the Dean has more administrative experience, but the professor has more recent experience closer related to what you are trying to accomplish.
Kalinchoffs credentials: noone is actually sure. Gotthard has a reputation for shafting his assistance and not giving them credit, but he also has a reputation of not actually letting them do all that much. She's at least not a total fraud from what the other physicists are saying.
Special Weapons Group currently is the branch responsible for all the gas Halina keeps (you got quite a lot of it)

As always with SACQ, it doesn't hurt to look for real world analogues.l

So where exactly are we? The name itself makes me think of Greece and the Mediterranean, the character names seem mostly Spanish, and the situation of the country and the names of the rulers makes me think of the Middle East, Iran or somewhere similar.

Also, is this set in the actual SACQ universe, or is it separate?

Well, we just threw a bunch of things together. You're somewhere off in the colonies so that whatever I do doesn't conflict with what the other two are doing. I rolled Latin America when picking the region analogue, but you also got the Ajawate (AKA a Sultanate) as your previous government.

If you base this off the Umayyad Caliphate in some way I will be happy to the point of delirium.

OK, noone here saw my deleted vote tally I hope. Here's the proper list vote, not the plan-tally.

Note that this is technically only the preliminary vote count, I will call the votes in roughly 15h. But I don't expect those to change.

Col. Tien Lombaria: 11
"I don't use my first name" Meiar: 10
Prof. Manuel Diego: 10
Isak Radess: 8
Ivoné Kalinchoff: 5
Saúl Cicerón: 2
Wing Leader Ariet: 0
Moritz Rosenstein: 0

@tomoyo @AlphaDelta don't do line breaks in your vote or the vote tally will not pick it up. Also I need to learn how to make it do an individual-item tally, though the next board vote is probably a bit away.

@Winged_One² like so, with "divide votes by line".

(Notably this also removes the problem with broken-up votes.)

So, here's a test tally so I can verify results for myself, and also to verify that this works fully.
Adhoc vote count started by Ash19256 on Jan 11, 2019 at 4:05 PM, finished with 22 posts and 10 votes.

This vote was assembled using the most time-tested means of building nuclear weapons: find that one Jewish high school in Budapest and clean the sucker out.
