I'll update in a few hours after I get back from the gym. The tally is a little bit messy so here is what I counted out so far

Familia:

- Vescovi x 5

- Alfero x 4

- Ricci x 3

- Capelo x 2

- Salvali x 1

Name:

John (lol) x 6

Robert x 2

Santino x 1

Also a second reminder, some of you picked a family but not a character name and appearance in case you want to add your vote.

Chapter 1 Update 2
I flipped a coin, best 3 out of 5 between Vescovi and Alfero. John Vescovi it is! Also I apologize for the delay in the update, I'm currently in finals week. By next Wednesday I should be able to update daily.

Just like that, we're back to it. You thought to yourself as you scrubbed shampoo through your hair.

The whole family business had pretty much been put on hold for a month. While the Vescovi's were known to be a flashy bunch, you still valued tradition above everything. Following any bosses death, at least a month of mourning was necessary. The past month was spent planning out the funeral, mourning and grieving the loss of your father, and celebrating his life while the adults got hammered and reminisced on good times.

But that time had come and passed. It was time to get to business now. The passing of your father created a ton of issues that needed to be addressed.

You see, James Vescovi wasn't just any mob boss. He had developed such powerful connections and relationships with politicians and media outlets that he had completely warped the image of the Vescovi family from the typical perspective of a mob family. At first, it was just some large, selfless, donations to charity that the local newspaper took note of (It's not like he was trying to get rid of some quick cash before an IRS investigation or anything). Then it was talking a civilian attempting to jump off a building out of suicide. (There's no way he could've snitched on the family and tried to kill himself to avoid being tortured when he was found out. At least he was reassured that his wife and kids would be mercilessly tortured in his place if he tried to escape his punishment through suicide!). But what really set it over the edge was when he killed Richard Collins, a wanted serial killer in "self-defense." (A serial killer owing money to the mob? Nah, that could never happen!) With the way the media spun his actions to glorify him and simultaneously omitted any of the hundreds of stories that could paint him in a bad light, James Vescovi became a superstar within a year. New Yorkers portrayed him as a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich, giving to the poor, and fighting the bad guys through his own means.

What a fucking joke.

It's not like you were trying to take shots at your old man or anything. For a mob boss, he was a pretty decent dude, could've been worse as a father, and an understanding boss as long as you didn't cross him. The way you see it, all the families had their own edge. The Ricci's had chronic anger management issues and an alarming lack of fear, The Capello's had the blessing of lacking any kind of self-respect or dignity if money was involved, and you guys had the benefit of the public's perspective. To simple minded people that might not seem like a lot but that's not how you saw it. That little edge is the difference between a broad day shooting not making headlines or becoming the start of an investigation that ices the whole families operation. Your father understood this and milked it for all it was worth. He did pretty fucking well, considering how you guys had grown from a small-time operation to one of the major 9 families in New York. Losing your father definitely hurt the family, in more ways than one.

You weren't worried about the fame aspect though. Your uncle Nico, who was running the family at the moment, was almost as well known as your father, you definitely had gained a lot of attention from being "Vescovi's son" and all of the major players within the family had their own bits of fame as well. Your father had made you all the rockstars of the mob, and that part wasn't changing anytime soon.

However, his killer was at the forefront of your mind.

You had tried not to think about it for the past month. But the thought that your dad's killer was still out there with his feet up enjoying life, it bothered you like an itch that you just couldn't reach, no matter what you did. You were sure that was what the majority of the family "meeting" was going to be about. You had heard your uncles talk about this enough times to know what they were going to say.

As far as you all know, there were 3 main suspects who could've killed your father. The Capello family was the first. Your father was about to strike a deal with Juco Water in the coming weeks, to provide their funding. You weren't a hundred percent sure about all the details but from what you heard, that deal would've somehow cost the Capello's millions of dollars through stocks they had in other water companies. The Capello's were not exactly an intimidating family, especially compared to some of the monsters out there in the mob world. But the one thing that they were known for, was their immense greed. Many of them were despicable human beings who would kill their own mothers for some pocket change. You can't imagine what they would do for millions.

The second was the Salvali Family. There had been an incident around 6 months ago where one of your cousins, Franky, had been out to a nightclub with friends. He ended up crashing at his longtime female friend's couch for the night until he was woken up by screaming from her room. His friends' boyfriend, Tony, had also gone out at that night and had returned blackout drunk. Long story short, Tony was drunk and tried to force himself on Franky's friend when she obviously didn't want to have sex. Franky woke up and saw what was happening and shot Tony dead. Unfortunately, we soon found out that while Tony was a scum bag he was also a part of the Salvali family. There was a lot of commotion and meetings between your families to prevent an all-out war. In the end, through many peace offerings, you managed to reach a resolution on the terms that the two families would not interact with each other again. Many of the Salvali's were pissed off to say the least from this decision and believed you guys had gotten off easy. You wouldn't be surprised if they had just waited until tensions had somewhat cooled off to make their move.

Finally was the police. Not just any police unit though, as half the police in the city were corrupt and worked for the mob. The other half was clean but terrified of you guys and would prefer to ignore you completely and just deal with petty crimes. The NYPD you were talking about was the .001% of police officers in the city that still gave a fuck about their jobs and wasn't afraid of the big bad mob. They were all compiled into one big unit called PS9, for Public Safety Unit 9. You guys often referred them as Prova Sodo 9, or just the Provas (Try-hard in Italian). While the Provas couldn't stand mob members and their affiliates, they especially hated you guys above everyone else. It's not like the Vescovi's were some extremely ruthless, inhumane monsters the mob has never seen before. It was just the constant glorification from the press and citizens that pissed them off. The way they saw it you guys were the same scum-bag criminals as the rest of the mob, you just got Hollywood treatment from the press. There had been many times they had attempted to take you guys down through the law and all of those times had resulted in overwhelming, embarrassing failures. You guessed they finally had enough and decided the only way to teach you guys a lesson was to put the law to the side and take matters into their own hands.

(Trait Gained: Local Star) John is the son of the famous mobster James Vescovi, He gains +5 Influence when interacting with any neutral person that knows him, but -5 when dealing with anyone from the Capello or Salvali family and the Provas.

(Trait Gained: Attention to Detail) John is extremely observant of his surroundings. He is able to notice minor things from his past and present locations that can influence his vote choices.

Of course, there were other possibilities but those three easily stood out the most. You all had to investigate for obvious reasons. For one you didn't want to go around guns blazing, trying to kill anyone who looked any kind of suspicious. All you would do is gain unnecessary enemies through reckless behavior.

The main reason though is that you didn't want to make your move until you guys were sure of the exact individual who had killed your father. It would be tragic if he was to die in the crossfire of one of your altercations. You hoped that throughout all of this he would stay alive before you caught him.

Death would be too sweet a punishment. When the Vescovi's were done with him, he was going to wish he had died instead of your father.

The build here assumes we can train things in game. As the son of the (former) boss of the "nice" mobsters, he didn't need to get his hands dirty himself. Never took the time to learn. Luckily for him, he's never needed it before.

I'd raise Luck to 50, but that reduces the other parts of the build too much.

@JiggyStreet am I right we can raise stats during the quest, and if so, would it be difficult to do so?

Also what would a typical feat of Luck 40 be, and for comparison how much better would Luck 50 be? It sounds like Luck isn't useless here, but I've played games where it was absolutely pointless and if you put anything in it you wasted your points.

Probably not PS9. Simply because well, they're hotheads, but if they are involved, there's no way for us to deal with them without the whole NYPD coming after us.

Yeah you can raise stats during the quest and its not significantly hard to raise your stats. Choosing daily actions to do certain activities (going to the gym for strength etc,) is usually enough. The only thing is that as your stats gets higher it takes more to raise them. (a 45 strength will take way more gym trips to get to 46 than going from 21 to 22.) You can also get permanent stat boosts (+1 intelligence) as rewards for completing missions so there's that.

A 40 luck will usually add 20 points (half) to a bad dice roll out 100 while a 50 luck will only add 5 more for 25. The difference being is that once you reach 50 or absolute mastery, you gain the perk of re-rolling bad rolls or coin flips one time entirely for a different result. Of course, being lucky won't always bail you out, especially in the case where there is a big statistic mismatch but it is definitely useful.

@Blonddude42 - would you be willing to edit your plan so we can get the 50 luck plus the perk, given both how hard it'll be to raise it and how phenomanal it'd be. The stats dropped in favor of raising it would also helpfully be easier to raise.

Sorry, I meant to include this in the update but you guys aren't allowed to allocate more than 40 allocated to a stat to start off.

Thanks for the tag, and with the GM information I probably would have if we didn't get the clarification that we can't go over 40. Although I'd need to tag people about the change since its a dick move to not tell them if you alter a plan

[X] Plan Boss's Son

Classic SV build, allows for great growth while extending our choice about specialisation (though it's probably gonna be a cha/int mix).

It does make me wonder though, would we be too weak at the start (so some uncle or other might take charge with us rolling too poorly to prevent it) and have to climb back?
Because I'd assume the other mobsters, especially the more experienced ones, are way way way more capable than us, that'll probably ruffle some feathers.

I'm pretty sure we aren't the head of the family, our uncle is talking over and intends to groom us to take over eventually.

We're 15 so having low stats makes sense to me at least. For once, we hopefully won't be expected to be the only competent person around.

All else fails, 40 Luck should cover lots of small issues for us.
