[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, possibly with the enemy

If we're going to tell her the truth, we should tell her the whole truth.

If we're going to tell her the truth, we should tell her the whole truth.

Problem is, that involves sending info out on a possibly compromised system. Specifically that we know about the op.

If we just tell her about the shooting, we reveal nothing new. News of the shooting has already propagated along the compromised channels.
Meanwhile, she should be able to figure stuff out herself.

It also runs the risk of our mom freezing when the attack comes, thinking she might be trying to kill her own child.

Which would probably be the sort of mistake she only gets to do once.

Hm. :/

I don't like it. I'd certainly want to know if my sister was on the other side.

If she's going to figure it out anyway, then it's better that she has more time to process it. I stand by my vote.

If she finds out about it, I would rather she did that after the attack that's so closeby that the infiltration team are running their final test run.

I honestly don't think our mom has the time neccesary to process this rather heavy revelation before shit goes down.

And if Mom finds out after the fact- that she was fighting against, and trying to kill, her child- then it'll hit her all the harder.

Eh. Agree to disagree?

And she'll be alive to be hurting, which means recovery is possible.

But yeah, this isn't an area where there's a clear right and wrong cause of action. Especially since we don't know quite how much time we have until the attack comes, and that timescale very much changes how things turn out.

[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, about the shooting

It's her daughter, our sister, but as for going beyond that... we're both military and this is a sensitive time.

I'm hoping the note about talking later in private for the first option is applicable to the second as well.

I'm a bit torn because I do think it's important for Amani to give her mother a full warning, and I would prefer to do so as soon as possible, but I'm worried someone might overhear their conversation in the naval docking port. During Amani's own arrival at the station in Update 018 the petty officer on duty was reluctant to divulge less sensitive information about Dame North's whereabouts, and Owusu notably slipped Amani a message asking to meet later in private rather than discuss anything in the open. The crowd around them is composed of naval officers and probably trustworthy, but if they gossip about it there's a risk someone wearing an Anchiale Maintenance Staff jumpsuit might overhear...

One way or another, Dame Nala North does need to know her eldest daughter Mosi is an enemy combatant and may be hostile.

It's not enough to hope she comes to the right conclusion on her own. No one else did despite the shooting being public knowledge, and as Mosi's mother Nalah is probably naturally averse to thinking of her daughter as the enemy. Amani herself would not have realized that Mosi was not merely a criminal but an enemy agent were it not for the right combination of clues from Anja, Lori, and Owusu. Amani's mother may be perceptive, but even if she notices Amani is holding back that doesn't tell her what's going on, and the fact that Mosi shot Amani's friend would be reason enough for Amni to be discomforted.

If Nalah doesn't know Mosi is working for the enemy she would probably hope to at least have the chance to talk with her as Amani did. She still might even if she does know, but at least with some warning she'll be more physically and emotionally prepared if Mosi goes after her.

Not sure what you mean by "compromised system"? Amani and her mother are currently face-to-face.

It'll be worse if she finds out during the attack, such as if/when Mosi surprises her. If we don't warn her in advance there might not be an after.

This also contradicts the arguments others are making about Dame North figuring out on her own (though I'm skeptical she can do so with the limited information on hand).

Dame Nala North
- Mother

North, Dame Nala: Amani's mother, who is a knight of the Order Lunar stationed on Anchiale Station, in orbit around Iapetus.
BTW, just noticed the character sheet and glossary list Dame North's given name as "Nala" while the latest chapter uses "Nalah". Is the latter the correct spelling?

[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, possibly with the enemy

I can totally see the reveal being use to surprise her in the middle of combat.

[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, possibly with the enemy
I want to go by the book but I cannot imagine being able to not say this.

[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, possibly with the enemy

We are owed a favor by the SRI dude, and I think that this will burn it if it gets out. But selfishly, I want both our mom and our sister to survive. I'm betting meta that the attempted reveal by our sister, intended to make our mom hesitate, could be instead reversed by the reveal that we are a serving officer and not safe from the fight.

[X] Tell your mother Mosi is alive, possibly with the enemy

My opinion of the choices:

The Navy is likely going to try to intercept the infiltration team. With lethal force. The second option probably has higher chance of doing so successfully.
The third option might allow Dame North to keep Mosi alive, while preventing the information being used against her in battle. This comes at the cost of leaking classified information and possible friendly losses.
The first option has no obvious benefits.
