"I'm going to accept Mami's invitation and I know you don't want to but could you also come? She was a friend so we should be there for her even if we haven't become friends this time yet. And, this might sound selfish but, I also want to know more about the Keyblade and she has some connection to it and if anything does go wrong you'll be right there to protect me." You say, finishing with your best smile at Homura.

Homura sighs. "Even when you change you're still the same. I'll be there for you." She touches the center of her shield and time starts to flow once more.

"That sounds really nice actually." Sayaka continues exactly where she left off.

You nod in agreement. "Thank you so much for helping us out!"

"It would be good to establish a relationship." Homura answers coolly.

Mami's apartment is a large open loft overlooking the city. "I live alone, so please feel free to relax. I'll just take a moment." Mami says, as she lets you in.

The three of you sit around a table and Mami brings out several plates with chunks of cake on them. When you close your eyes to savor the sheer deliciousness of the cake, you hear something jump up on to the table, and when you open your eyes you see it the thing from your dream, the Incubator, it almost looks like a cat if not for the unblinking red eyes and the ringed tassels extending from its ears. Then you feel a voice, a bit like a young boy's, echoing through your mind.
"You're that voice from the mall! You said you needed our help! What was that all about?!" Sayaka shouts as she points accusingly at the Incubator.
"I think an introduction is in order. This is Kyubey, as you can see and hear him you have the potential to become a Magical Girls."

"Any wish!" Sayaka gasps.

"Don't be hasty," Homura cuts in, "a wish can easily become nothing but a source of pain, and there is no backing out of the contract once it has been made."

"Well, transfer student what wish did you make that left you so mopey about wishes?"

Homura hesitates for a moment before answering, "I wished for the chance to save someone from the terrible fate that befell them. Even with that chance, no matter what I have tried I have only met with failure."

"Dang…"

"Akemi-san makes a good point. I didn't have the chance to think over my wish, you should take the time to think things over. The wish I made, I regret not having the chance to think about it." Mami pauses and sees the unspoken question on Sayaka's and your own faces. "Two years ago there was a car accident that no one could have survived. Kyubey found me while I was on the verge of dying and I made a wish to survive, and the rest of my family died that day."

Feeling that the mood has taken a turn for the worse with this topic, with a thought you call Tranquil Rose to your hand and hold it above the table. "Mami, earlier you recognized this thing, the keyblade, do you know anything about it?"

"No, it isn't like anything I've seen in my life. Though its magic feels somewhat like the Soul Gems that Kyubey creates for Magical Girls. Isn't that right Kyubey?"
"But there is a connection between them isn't there?" Homura asks accusingly.

You shake your head. "I don't feel like that is the right wish to make. But thank you for sharing that." With that you dismiss the Keyblade and allow someone else to take up the conversation.

"So," Sayaka says, "what the deal with fighting Witches?"

"Destroying witches is necessary for survival to Magical Girls." Homura answers. "They cease to be should they run out of magic and only the Grief Seed of a Witch can replenish magical energy. "

"It is not just that, Witches spread despair and hate wherever they might be and are responsible for countless murders and suicides. Should you chose to make a contract you will be putting your lives on the line to protect everyone else, that's another reason to carefully consider if you truly want to make the contract. Kaname-san while you are inexperienced you fought splendidly but the two of you would have still been lost within the labyrinth had Homura and I not arrived."

You know that you aren't going to be making a wish anytime soon but it feels like she is still considering it, definitely an improvement from earlier but still something to worry about.

Mami looks contemplative for a moment before speaking again, "Perhaps we may have said a bit too much to worry you. In that case, would you care to follow me for a little while so you can see what it is like? And Akemi-san while we may not see eye to eye on some matters would you wish to try and work together for a bit?"

Sayaka chimes in next, "I'm not totally sold on the idea, but if Madoka is brave enough to go then I've got to go too."

There is a pause as everyone looks at Homura with bated breath. "I'll work with you, but if you needlessly endanger any of us, then we will part ways." Homura finally agrees.

"I won't dream of doing something like that. Thank you all for giving me a chance."

The next morning, Homura is waiting alongside Sayaka and Hitomi at the usual spot.

"Seriously, how did you know we meet up here?" Sayaka says as you approach.

"I have my ways." Homura responds, and then her mouth stops moving but you still hear her voice. "There was one thing that was neglected yesterday, Kyubey facilitates telepathic communication. However, it is best to keep its use to only what is strictly necessary. I have no desire to hear every lurid thought that passes though Miki Sayaka's mind."

"What's that supposed to mean!"

The morning passes like a blur, and soon it is already time for lunch, normally you just eat with Sayaka but now there's also Homura and Mami.
