You've only regained enough power for a single use of reflect, but if can stun it again then you can do some more serious damage and maybe get to those bubbles again. Dodging, ducking, diving, jumping and running as quickly as your legs can push you, just aren't enough to avoid all of the threads. When you jump over one another is already swinging down at you from above. Dodging a thread to the side leads usually is followed by a thread from the opposite side again and again in a macabre dance that leads to pain whenever you miss a step. It feels like there isn't an inch of your body that isn't in pain.

Then finally the shadow monster uses one of the attacks you were waiting for. It grabs ahold of the other dark orb and launches it at you with tremendous speed, reflect sends it flying right back at her. The creature shakes and trembles but it isn't stunned.

You're all out of magic and it's still standing. You've been avoiding using the staff as a weapon, maybe out of fear of it breaking, maybe out of a reluctance to use it so crudely, maybe you lacked the courage to do things so directly, but right now it's the only thing you have. Discarding much of your former caution you start going on the offensive. You parry and get a hit on one of the threads just as another cuts you. You can scarcely afford to trade blows like this but it's your only option. Another pair of blows exchange and you can barely even stand. One more you can do one more, you swing the staff at one of the threads as your eyes force themselves shut in anticipation of the retaliatory strike. But it never comes, the entire creature has seized up and a light shines from within the monster's head.



You did it, you actually won, a feeling of confidence swells up within you. You could jump with joy, but you see the creature starting to collapse, falling directly at you. You don't have the magic to block it and you can't get out of the way. Even as you brace yourself for being hit, it feels less like a solid thing you were just fighting and more like just a chill of the night carried on by the wind.

You wake up in your bed, with your heart pounding like mad and drenched in cold sweat. That couldn't have been a dream, could it? You don't have time to think about it, you have to get ready for school.


You walk to school together with Sayaka and Hitomi, the three of you couldn't be less alike, Hitomi is a proper young lady and super popular, Sayaka is loud, energetic, and spontaneous in a charming way, and you are well… you.

Homeroom, Miss Saotome has an important announcement, wait no it's just a rant about her love life. And then she announces a new transfer student. Homura Akemi, a cool beauty with long black hair. She looks like, no, she is the girl from your dream who fought alone in the ruined city and was reaching for you on the first platform. As she introduces herself remain locked upon yours. Most of the other girls in the class soon crowd around Homura, though Hitomi and Sayaka come to your side.

Hitomi breaks the silence, "She has a mysterious air about her, doesn't she?"

"Hey, Madoka," Sayaka asks, "have you met that girl before? Maybe it's just me but it seemed like she was glaring at you earlier." You stumble for an answer just as Homura stands up and starts walking towards you. She asks you to accompany her to the nurse's office. Before you even realize it she's leading you through the halls rather than the other way around. Maybe she wanted to talk to you for some reason?

It may sound crazy, but you can't shake the feeling that what you had was no ordinary dream. "Akemi-san," you begin.

She interrupts, "Call me Homura."

"Homura, this is going to sound kind of unusual but I saw you in a Dream I had. You were wearing a dress straight from an anime and fighting a giant upside-down lady, and there was this-this white cat rabbit thing and-."

Homura stops dead in her tracks and turns to face you, "Incubator."

"What?"

"The thing you saw was an Incubator known as Kyubey" Homura says, as she grabs you by the shoulders, "it will try to tempt you, but if you accept its contract, suffering will be your only fate. As for the rest-"

"I wasn't finished!" You exclaim as you squirm out of her grasp and take a step back. "Darkness swallowed up everything and I fell to a place with a big picture of you and me but you were in the same dress and I was in a frilly dress with a bunch of zippers and belts. And a man's voice kept saying cryptic things about fate, and Darkness, and there were these shadow monsters, and a giant evil shadow me made out of strings and and and more stuff I didn't understand." You're practically panting at the end of that outburst and really thankful that the bridge between the two school wings is deserted right now. You only now notice that a scowl had formed on Homura's face at some point and you keep quiet as you wait for her speak.

"Kaname Madoka, I don't have an answer for anything after the darkness. The rest you wouldn't believe what it was even if I told you."

"You listened to me and believed me about my crazy thing, it's the least I can do to believe your crazy thing." You say, flashing your best smile.

A ghost of a smile flashes across Homura's lips before she speaks, "The reason why I didn't want to tell you is because the last times I told you, you didn't believe me or thought I was crazy. What you saw was one of many potential futures, one that I had just come from. The monster you saw is a Witch, the end result of one of Kyubey contracts. This one is known as Walpurgisnacht who comes in one month's time to attack the city. I made a promise to save," she hesitates, "somebody from dying at her hands."

"That somebody was me wasn't it?"

"How did you know?"

"Just a feeling in my Heart." You grab a hold of her hand and start pulling her along.

Back in class your emotions are in a bit of a twist, you're worried about what happens when that witch shows up but at the same time you can't help but feel happy for making a new friend, or would it be remaking an old friend?

Sayaka shakes you out of your thoughts, "It looks like you did more than just walk her to the nurse."

"We may have talked a little bit."

"Oh? What about?" Hitomi says as she comes in from the other side, putting you in a pincer between the two girls.

"I- um said that I saw her in my dreams."

They both start talking at once
"When did you start using cheesy pick-up lines like that?"
"What would even drive you say something like that?
"I mean I thought I was supposed to be your beautiful blue haired wife?"
"Even if you had met her before that is not the way to approach it at all."

"She said something similar." That brings them to a halt.

"Hitomi, did we walk into a romance anime?"

"You're both girls. Girls can't love girls." Hitomi keep muttering that same phrase as she slinks back to her desk.

You and Sayaka are both left blinking at that outburst, and she is the first to recover "Anyway… you still on for doing some shopping after class?"

Of course the first place that Sayaka insists on going to is the music store, it isn't as interesting as the furniture store but you can't really complain about it. As you are browsing the new releases, you happen to look up and see a kiosk literally spring up with a puff of smoke. While it looks fully stocked with drinks and jewelry there doesn't appear to be anyone there, only an odd plush toy with white fur, a single antennae with a red puffball, a big round head and a bulbous pink nose standing a stool in the center. It doesn't look like the Incubator from your dream, but still it can't hurt to check it out.

"Hey Sayaka," you call out, "I'm going to check out a new booth that just opened up." She without even stopping her search though a box of old records, she shoots you a thumbs up.

You cautiously approach the stuffed animal, and are greeted by an energetic voice, you can understand what they are saying but all you are hear is the word kupo. "Ah my first customer kupo! To celebrate our grand opening everything is half off kupo!"

"That's nice but, um what are you?"

"Oh! Kupo! I didn't expect to run into any locals with magic so soon! Most people just see someone normal Kupo. I'm a Moogle Kupo! "The greatest race of merchants and synthesists under the one sky Kupo!"

"Er, there isn't a contract or anything like that to shop here, is there?"

"Nope, Kupo, feel free to buy whatever you want!"
