Keyblader Apprentice Quest (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep)

Return to Departure
[x] Yes

You want to say no.

You really want to say no.

The last thing you want is to end up sidelined and miss out on events all together… but if you refuse you'll be setting a bad example for Ventus, and he won't return home if he doesn't think he's doing it for your protection.

With Vanitas's focus on him and the relative difference in power between them, you're not very confident about Ventus's chances should the two ever end up in an actual fight again.

"Yes." It irks you, but if you want Ventus safe it looks like you'll have to take one for the team. "It's alright."

"Ok!" You see a determined look enter Ventus's eyes. "Don't worry Scena! I'll keep you safe until you're ready to fight again!"

You want to be ready to fight again now…

You let out a sigh.

This is going to be… well hopefully not a long trip, but very likely an unpleasant one all the same.

XXXXXXX

The Land of Departure doesn't appear to have changed all that much since you last saw it; same old green skies, same old convoluted castle, and same old weird landscape.

"Welcome Scena." The same old Master Eraqus greets you, though it does seem as if his thoughts are somewhere else at the moment. For some reason, you doubt it's related to your arm. "Thank you for bringing Ventus back."

"It's more he brought me back here." You point to your missing arm. "I… well, I couldn't exactly help the others as well without both my arms."

"Aqua and Terra." Master Eraqus bends down to take a momentary look at your glowing stump. "Are they both still alright?"

"Yeah." You rub the back of your head. "Luckily I was the only one that last any limbs… Sorry about springing my injury onto you, by the way."

"You have no need to apologise, Scena." Master Eraqus's voice is stern, commanding, and a bit more intense then your own Master, even if it isn't quite as wizened. "You are the equal of any of my students and I'm sure that your help was instrumental in making sure that their journey has gone as well as it has. I must ask that you stay and rest here for a while before you leave once again. Your own master would not hesitate to punish me if he even suspected that I'd let one of his students leave while they were as badly wounded as you."

Wow… Master Eraqus actually seemed slightly scared of Master when he said that. Well, you suppose that makes sense; your Master can be pretty intense.

Still, now you find yourself with a bit of spare time and not much left that really needs to done. Well, you still have to find Mickey and deal with that masked boy, but since you can't do anything on those fronts you'll make do with what you have.

So… what do you do?
[x] Work on one of your songs. You have a bunch of mostly complete changes laying around. (Choose 1 song to upgrade.)
[x] Talk with Ventus. You don't get chances like this often.
[x] Focus on recovering. The sooner you are up again, the sooner you can help the others.
[x] Write in.

Not sure how many upgrades it needs, but moving between Worlds on our own would be nice to have.

That or talking to Ventus to make sure he doesn't do the Reckless or something.

We really need to take this chance to either try and get our transportation mode for our Keyblade or the inter-planetary level of our Song though.
i definitely agree with this. We really need a faster and safer way of going between worlds.

Well, you've got plenty of time to yourself now that your stuck in the Land of Departure with only one arm. It's not that it's a bad place per say, in just about any other possible situation you'd be more than happy to here, but right now your friends are out there desperately trying to find Vanitas and stop him before he can do untold damage to the worlds. Meanwhile, you're stuck in this peaceful looking land, lamenting the fact that you can't go out and join them.

A quick glance over at Ventus reveals that he's taking some rather intense training in the training yard just outside the castle. You hope he doesn't wear himself out too much doing that; even with Master Eraqus here, it would be for the best if all of you keep to the best shape you can be. There's a chance that Vanitas might try attacking this place while Aqua and Terra are away, and even with a Master at your side you can't imagine it would be an easy fight.

Oh well, at least this place has a nice library you can use to work on your songs. It's not large, compared to the ones in the Mysterious Tower at least, and it makes you believe that Master Yen Sid put far more effort into acquiring and storing knowledge than any other Keyblade Master. Still, even if it's inferior to what you're used to, t it has its fair share of books on magic, paper, and most importantly ink for you to make use of as you edit and adjust your songs.

This, this is a nice break from all your worries, a way to keep the stress of current events from your mind. It's just you and your passion for music. Only the shapes of the notes and the beautiful humming of your instrument weaving into a fabric of noise that is oh so much more wonderful than just the sum of their parts.

Still this visit is as much for work as it is for pleasure, recent events have made you very aware of one painful fact.... you are unable to travel between worlds on your own.

Currently the Song of Transportation is a simple thing, mostly meant to teleport you short distances to give you a small advantage in combat. However with a little more time put into the song itself, and some work on its nature, you should be able to transport yourself to another world entirely.

Yes…

That should be of great help.

It took you some time but you've done it! You finally fini-

The entire castle shakes, knocking you off your feet in the process.

What the heck was that?

Another shockwave nearly knocks you back to the ground, but you're prepared this time. The rest of the library is less fortunate though, and several bookshelves fall over and a large chunk of the wall breaks off and crushes the desk you'd been working on just moments before.

Ok, you need to get out of this place!

XXXXXX

Well the good news is that you've found the source of those shockwaves. The bad news is that it's a giant vortex of darkness that looks ready to destroy the entire world.

And neither Master Eraqus nor Ventus are anywhere nearby.

What the heck was happening while you were working!?

What do you do?
[x] Use the Song of Transportation. You need to get out of this place, but picking a target will take too long. You'll just have to stay in the Realm of Light and hope for the best!

[x] Put on your armor now! Even if the world is consumed, the armor should keep your from dying!
[x] Try and find one of the others. You need to know if they're ok!

OOC: You guys got a really low perception roll so you didn't notice events transpiring outside until… this happened. Anyway, I will say that you guys are at a very good risk of dying or being rendered unable to impact things further as a result, so make sure you put some thought into the route you want to pick going forward… it's crunch time!

We missed Terra fighting Eraqus and everything? Really?

You don't even know if that happened in the first place.

And I'll say right now you shouldn't take for granted that it did.

Scena's may have been sequestered in her library for long enough to miss events outside of the castle, but she's already flapped her butterfly wings plenty as it is.

As long as we're in the RoL we can always reorient ourself and aim elsewhere. It's when we get trapped in the RoD that I imagine things might get... tricky.

It'll take longer, but the other option is essentially random on a newly-learned spell, and if we end up in an unknown part of the Realm of Light, we lose the ability to further affect the events of Birth By Sleep.
