I don't understand, you think they use the claws?

No, they would just get in the way.

Like Horns on a helmet, even if you didn't try to charge like a bull or something equally dumb it still catches on things it shouldn't, generally inhibits movement, serves as a haven for bacteria too in the case of claws (seriously those things are a breeding ground and it's parked next to the hands, the great germ distributors)

There's no practical purpose for including them and many to not do so, buuuuut this is Neolithic and symbolism means a lot which is why I didn't dismiss "man in costume" immediately.

These guys probably killed off all the hunters who ran away from the bear a few updates ago.

That's probably how they know the language.

Thinking about that, @Azel have you watched The 13th Warrior lately?
The design of these "snow demons" really reminds me of that movie...

I can honestly say that I never watched that movie at all.

Edit: Nice to see such a contested vote. :)

OK.

It had cannibalistic primitives wearing almost the same outfit, up to the fake claws.
Only not in white due to climate differences.

Edit: Good movie by the way, at least as an adventure. In terms of action its a bit outdated.

How powerful are Great People armed with superior weapons anyways? The winterwear is armor to other weapons, but obsidian will chop clean through.
From close up though, they could make out things that others had missed. Though they could not see its legs, only two huge, lumpy and misshapen feet peeking out of the fur, it stood on them like a man would.
Snowshoes.
It had huge paws with long claws instead of hands, yet it gripped a crudely made wooden spear in them. Amidst the tangles of hair, one could make out the bone of a great beast, turned into a club by simply wrapping some leather around the thinner end.
Gloves, though crude ones, it looks like they just skinned a large animal and wore the whole hide.

A rumbling came from its throat and it took a bit to recognize it as laughter. "They hunter? They weak. We kill half when sleep. We kill another when run like goat."
They got the hunters by ambush.

"They there and they food. Why not kill because food? Other two with us. Will be food too." If the thing had a face, it was hidden beneath its fur, though the tone of voice made it clear that it stated a fact as if talking to a child.
Hood too, pretty thorough winterwear techs.

"We want food. We take people, so we want food for them." He paused for a moment, seeming in thought and looking towards the others of his kind before continuing. "If you want people, you give food. Plenty food. And spears of night. Then can have people and dead. But make plenty, or Skaog angry."
It sounds a lot like they practice slavery and human sacrifice.

Theres a value gap here being missed, why did they take the long ago bunch alive long enough to learn the language? Why ambush and kill most of the raiding party?

They have a definite elitism value there, judging by their statement of how its obvious that the weak are food.

You know, I get the feeling the bear might well be their god?

Keep in mind that different, distinct languages are not really that big a thing yet. Tribes come together, split back up, exchange members and most wander around a lot, leading to a semi-universal, primitive tongue in the wider area. Your tribe never had that much difficulty to understand other tribes they've met, with the exception of those coming from the sunset-steppes or beyond the sands.

(How scientific valid this is is hard to say, though the proto-indo-european language kinda points in that direction, but it's plausible enough, given the geography and convenient right now.)

That's a lot of good loot if we kill them now.

Good winterwear, snowshoes we haven't invented yet and their supplies.

And we already have a hero here, let's test him.

For blood and loot!

People please don't vote for attacking them with just our current party, if we do so, we are completely screwed, they have the better location and greater numbers, yes we have better spears but that still doesn't matter when it's two one one or worse. In short, our party dies for nothing, they get better tech and we lose a great person, the people we set out to find and the information that these fucks exist.

Let's come back in the spring when we have the advantage of numbers instead of them, ensuring our success. Two people isn't worth the death of of the others, particularly as to get them back we almost certainly will lose more than two people from the current party.

[X] You cannot afford a fight now, with the possibility of dying without informing the rest of the village. Fall back for now, and prepare for revenge in the spring.

Thats why theres another vote to lie and come back with more people.

We are in a narrow place where better spears and our VIP's hunting skill matters.

I'm not sure we'll get a better situation, or that we actually have higher numbers.

While I'm not sure attacking right now is the best plan, I don't at all see how waiting until Spring is viable. These 'Yeti' have just openly admitted to us that they're cannibals, so when we send our hunters out next month to find the food that we need to survive the month what do you all think these 'Yeti' will be hunting? Us.

If we ignore them they just get to pick our hunters off one by one over the winter as the rest of the tribe slowly starves to death because the rest can't bring in enough food. When Spring rolls around we may not even have the numbers or strength to attack them.

Um, the vote is asking what' the tribes response, so that should mean snow-fox returned to the tribe and now we're deciding on what to do.

So, attacking should mean that we come with a stronger force later, not with the 6 we have.

There is a point about them picking us off over winter as well.

Gonna change my vote.

The attack option actually assumes that Snow-Fox decides on his own to attack now. The other options would require the councils input.

Anybody think we can pull off a Trojan style attack on the snow demons with the wattle baskets? Might need to make them more sturdy, but I think it would help in the vote to lie and come back.

We can have 2 hunters carry a large basket with a hunter hiding inside but topped off with fish or some meat on top.

[X] Attack them and free the captives

So we have our first hero and this is still the foundational time of our people the time of myth and legend. I think this will make the most compelling tale if it is successful.

Well, the fact that they had to ambush our folks in their sleep to fight them even when they had more numbers tells me they probably

Plus attacking now might be insane enough to work or intimidate with. Maybe we have projectiles available to engage with.
