I'd really like to start tree-cutting already, but preservation and roof-building should happen now and I don't want to leave all tge house-building for later, so we have opportunity to gather and hunt more now preservable food directly before winter.

Still, I can't help but think that cut trees would improve our future huts and will bring it in the next turn-plan.

Mind you that the material research options wont affect the construction effort, unless completed before or on the same turn.

That's a relief.

Then I'm optimistic that we'll get decent huts and food for winter, with enough free space to retry some failures.

Sorry, reading comprehension failure on my part.
The wood action only affects construction if it is finished before or on the same part as the first building action.
Basically you are settling on a construction style when you start to build the village and any later changes will require either rebuilding entirely or invalidate part of the effort.

Oh, then we'll have to renovate and expand over time.

That's fine, we'll be living in great halls, build with precisely cut boards and mighty tree trunks sooner or later.

[X] Plan Prepare for Future Construction
-[X] [Action] The small forest critters exist in great numbers, but are hard to catch. Try to catch them with traps.
-[X] [Action] Try to figure out a way to fell entire trees.
-[X] [Action] While the wattle makes for sturdy construction, it does little to keep the rain out. Try to find a solution.

Decided to make my own plan after Azel's corrections. We want as much good building tech as we can before starting the construction project. Next turn we can hunt, figure out food preservation, and get started on construction.

Just a reminder that we most likely have 9 actions before winter.

If we fail anything while having a tight shedule we might end up without sufficient food or shelter.

Enough suboptimal huts are better than too few better ones.

Bear bones aren't really special as a crafting material. Makes a spiffy altarpiece though

They can be, but not for weapons @Duesal, I imagine a bear scapula is somewhat comparable to an Ox and those are very effective as agricultural tools like hoes, they were still used in the Indian subcontinent for farming as late as the 1900s.

Other bone tools are good for fine work, bone needles, bone scrapers etc.

With ~9 turns remaining we should br able to very comfortably spend 3 on material research before starting on the huts.

If we were making hide huts I'd agree but the tribe will already be attempting novel construction, may as well let it be the best we can in the timeframe.

Leaving 6 turns for shelter to cover any mistakes or unforseen events is plenty.

Edit: Actions vs Turns

I still think this turn can be used to experiment and the next two to prepare for Winter.
