Petals of Titanium -- My Life as a Mecha Setting Bridge Bunny Quest

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
[X] Volunteer to help the refugees settle in to their temporary housing (one downtime)
[X] Help to completely eliminate the annoyance with Perbeck's scans (two downtime)

So, chances the enemy mecha pilot is Amani's sister?

And chances that one of the refugees (probably a girl about Ito's age or slightly younger) will fall into the repaired cockpit of the now-pilotless mech and turn out to be some sort of prodigy?

The vote's structured a little oddly. Is spending two downtime to completely fix the issue a subvote of 'spend one to do the initial work', or is it in addition to? In other words, do we need to spend three downtime to completely fix the issue, or just two?

e: "Revenge on your traitor mother" is pretty dark. I liked the interplay with Anja, though, and the bits about the tracker necklace.

It will also turn out that Big Sister is also wearing her side of the transmitter and at some point she will get close enough to our ship for both ends to connect to each other (with a dramatic reveal to each other of course).

A chance of finding someone interesting among the refugees, and helping Perbeck out.

Duty first before all else. We need everything running at tip top shape for the next event, so leisure time can wait.

I'd also like to test how far our Ojou-powers can keep us graceful despite all the work.

Have at least one relaxation option to stay sane, and correspondingly two 'work' options - one maybe involving meeting someone among the refugees, plus at least starting on the scans.

Aaaand our sister is a zealot and follower of the 'holy' emperor. How much you want to bet she thinks we're dead and that's why she's after Mom specifically?

"Yes, Lieutenant North, in fact it is.".

Well, that revelation was faster than expected. Then again, you can't expect an anime to drag out side-character subplots too long. :D

This seems good to me. I'd like to finish the help to Perbeck, but I'm still convinced based on genre law that the actual protagonist is with the refugees and the sooner we meet them the better.

It takes two downtime to completely fix the issue; it's just separated into either doing part of the work necessary to fix it or doing all of it.

I don't wholly disagree, but I also kind of want to make sure we're in good shape, and spending time with Anja would help the both of us. Staying graceful under pressure is great, but I doubt it'll be good for the quality of our work if we end up facing an emergency without spending any downtime on rest.

If I were to assume that there are benefits to each of the options, then that's how I'd probably weight it. Spending time with Anja gets some interaction between us where we learn more about each other, but it also helps both of us handle the stress, so we might see a slight performance uptick in any new emergency. The other options would, obviously, also help in their own ways, so I'm not going to claim that spending time with Anja has to be the best use of our time.

So, I'd think it comes down to how you want to see Amani handle this and where you want to see her do well in. I can see the appeal of having her go full workaholic to help as much as possible, bearing the strain with grace and aplomb, but I don't think I personally want to go that route.

Still, though, people have made good points about the potential fun with refugee housing, so I'm trying to decide whether I want to just do the initial analysis on the scans and swap in housing for my vote or not.

A thing we need to keep in mind if we want to survive is how we relate to the mecha anime we're a character in. Since the likelihood of us ever achieving main cast status is minimal to nonexistent, our goal needs to be to give ourselves enough characterization from the viewer's perspective that we can't be casually killed off in the background, but not so much characterization as to make our death meaningful without derailing the plot.

What our exact actions should be depends a lot on whether the main character is Lt. Ito or the hypothetical new pilot of the late Ensign Song's mech.

This just makes me hope that Ito's the main character and that we almost never interact with him directly, but we're in nearly every scene we can be in anyway. Ito and Anja are talking, and Amani's nearby, having walked there with her best friend. Amani's there helping Perbeck with her mecha's scanner as a background detail when Ito comes to talk to the countess. When it's revealed on-screen that the refugee girl is a natural mecha pilot, Amani's right there. Any shot of the bridge has us sitting there with important scan data. The sort of character who has a name but otherwise receives little focus but still manages to be tangentially involved in so many scenes that fans start making conspiracy theories.
