When Host "shapeshifts," she's actually retrieving specific stored forms. This lets you store clothing (and hats) with certain forms, as well as any changes made to said forms using your tinkering, but it also means other residue is carried along. So when you transformed, it was into a blood-matted koala that smelled an awful lot like a sewer. EDIT: The noise resulting from effectively tearing out your medical monitors didn't help any. EDIT 2: You're pretty sure Penny calmed down prior to leaving; she likely saw no good reason to stay after she got what she needed.

Your own clothes are mostly fine, but the hospital sheets are just a teensie bit stained now. And the room is somewhat smellier than it used to be. And more of a biohazard.

She is assuming host's father is acting with host's wellbeing in mind, and already decided to trust him until he proves to be untrustworthy, so if he says to do a thing in a place of healing, it's probably to accelerate said healing.
