My general plan was:People, for the next vote, I've been having some ideas already. We should spend some time in the jungle both for our supplies, and to get things to sell, probably hunting our own food (animals, please) while there. We have little money and Xochi wants to spend a while in the city, so we'd better have funds for that, later on we spend time finishing to learn how to read. What do you guys think?
My general plan was:
1) Buy some wrappings and restock in general -- this was part of the reason I had us borrow extra from Xochi, so we'd have funds for this
2) Get caught up on rumors, see what's happened while we were gone, see if there are any lucrative metal-filled opportunities
3) Spend the majority of the time learning to read until Xochi is ready to go somewhere again
That was the gist of it, really. But bottomline we need wrappings first and foremost. We shouldn't even consider stepping out of the city before that, not even for a simple animal hunt.
We're fine for daily expenses. The out would be to make wrappings and gather herbs, the hunting would only be for what we would eat. Yes, we should check on the rumors and all, but the diference is that I don't want to rely on the money she lent us just to pay our daily expenses, thus a little time away, close to the city, just preparing our supplies and gathering herbs we can sell. The rest would be pretty much the same.
We're fine for daily expenses.
Current funds after buying everything are:
3 Tlaltepoztli
126 Cacao Beans
And conversion rate:
1 Quachtli (sheets of cotton) = 300 Cacao Beans
1 Tlaltepoztli ("Hoe Money", copper tokens) = 8,000 Cacao Beans (roughly 27 Quachtli)
Daily expenses amount to one Bean per meal. Possibly less. Might be one bean per day. Either way, we are very secure. We have more than enough to simply buy the necessary herbs instead of needing to go out and collect them ourselves. And as for the rumors, the reason the girl was so costly the first time was because we were basically buying her services. Now that we've already established contact and made a contract with her, getting rumors should be considerably cheaper. And more than that, I kind of just want to spend as much time as possible learning to read. This thing has been hanging over our heads for dozens of updates and I will cheer when Yaxkin finally manages it.
Given that most of those funds will be put towards getting bindings that will keep both of us alive and for keeping an ear on the ground for lucrative opportunities via the underground rumor mill, I don't think we're misusing those funds. Of course we're going to repay her. You don't cheat a party member. That generally leads to a bad ending for all involved. And yet all of that came from Xochi. We should pay her up, later. Expending what she lent is a surefire way of always coming short to the full pay... Or normally would be, a good spirit run might pay us off, but still, paying her first seems like a sensible idea, and I don't like the notion of depending on something not ours, even if we pay it up later...
Only if the comm-item reloads that fast.I've had enough of the wilderness for the time being. I am perfectly willing to stay in the city, lay low, and learn how to read. We are due another message from Matlal in... I think, a week?
For a few weeks while our gear is being crafted and Xochi finishes recovering, sure, but by the same token we need to keep in mind that we're on the clock before we're forced to leave the city permanently. When we leave we lose access to all the experts in the city, all the blacksmiths and master craftsmen and herbalists, etc etc. The faster we get rich quickly the faster we can buy better gear (I dream of getting that Exceptional Light Bronze Armor), and purchase training. For example, seeing if that nice herbalist lady would be willing to teach us a thing or two, or finding a disenfranchised healer trying to ply their trade in the shadow of the Wise Men, or getting hunting lessons, etc. There are a ton of things that are best accomplished in the city, and all of them need money.I've had enough of the wilderness for the time being. I am not even opposed to Ixtli reading the codex. As long as we learn what's inside it. I suppose we could give it to him on the condition that he gives it back to us.
It's 13 days. Of which I think about a week has passed already (3 days at the site, 3 days in travel).Only if the comm-item reloads that fast.
Also, we really need money, so we'll have to go out soon.
I hate being in debt a second longer than we have to.
Where does permanence come from?by the same token we need to keep in mind that we're on the clock before we're forced to leave the city permanently.
I think he assumes that the Wise Men will find us out, then we have to run.@Duesal I don't reallyy get what you're saying of being on the clock. As far as I can tell, we have not schedule to keep whatsoever. Our deal with Matlal isn't even a timed one, we could leave right now, or in two years, maybe even work from them here. So why you keep telling everyone that we are on the clock? o.õ

True, but you have to take the paranoia level of the players into account, too.Didn't the QM already say this is dependent on us "making noise"? As far as I remember, simply laying low for a while would decrease their suspicions, and the suspicions shouldn't get much high if we spend as much time as we tend to outside the walls. The only downside is that we can't know how suspicious they are at any given time.

We are going to keep doing illegal stuff, like hunting and processing spirits, looting codices, and doing alchemy. It's a question of when we trigger enough flags, not of if.
You just passed a SAN check. And since we won't know when, worrying won't help a thing :B Acting sensibly maybe, but worrying never trully helps... If we get caught, we get out, until then, we use and abuse of this city

I was hoping to hunt that silver peccary running around the jungle. That pelt has got to be worth an absolute fortune. And for all we know the bones might be diamond or something ridiculous like that.
Because in the case that we're actually discovered by the Wise Men as enemy agents I'm not going to advocate returning to the city. There's probably magic to track us down or alert the Wise Men if we come back, and I have no interest in being captured and maybe being taken apart in a lab.

I always plan for the worst. We're not on a set schedule, but we're on a landmine with this whole spy job, so it's only a matter of time as far as I'm concerned, especially when a set of bad rolls could screw us over. If at any time we're forced to leave then that puts an end to us being able to use the craftsmen and experts of the city. Like you said, we have no way of knowing what their suspicion levels are and what events our actions correspond with unless they're big enough that we hear about them a few days later. I'd rather be prepared and have as much of our gear crafted so we can be ready to flee with everything we need mostly done rather than being lax, getting around half our gear crafted, then fleeing before we can get the rest.True, but you have to take the paranoia level of the players into account, too.

... Yeah, sorry. That's just an attitude I fundamentally disagree with. I'll relax after we get all the best gear the city has to offer. I'd be pissed if we missed out on anything because we didn't hurry enough. And since we won't know when, worrying won't help a thing :B Acting sensibly maybe, but worrying never trully helps... We do need something to carry our stuff. I was holding out hope that the rest of the Fleshweaver might still be there if we go back. Bone armor plates shouldn't rot, and those things were worth 60 Tlaltepoztli each! But then I went back, looked at all the parts, noted that between us an Xochi we weren't said to bring back any of the organs, and realized that Xochi probably nabbed the rest of the remaining armor pieces. Just our luck, but at least our ally got rich.
And the cave/excavation crumbled after some days. At least we searched it twice. We do need something to carry our stuff. Yeah, at least there's that. I'm glad we explored most of it before we left. And the cave/excavation crumbled after some days. At least we searched it twice.
