The Springtime Summoning Ritual

Gideon020

Really in the mood for ribs.
My familiar, who exists out there somewhere...

It should have been the greatest moment of your life. You, Louise Valliere, were going to summon a Familiar and at the very least show that you were not so completely and utterly screwed up that you couldn't even bring into existence an animal that would show your status as a Mage. And so you recited the ritual aria, put your heart and soul into the spell that would bring forth the being that would be your lifelong companion...

And immediately received an explosion and a cloud of smoke that covered the area.

But something was different. The voices of your classmates who constantly mocked you had faded into nothingness and when you opened your eyes you found yourself standing in a smoky, dark realm where the only light came from a glow surrounding three large stone plinths, unadorned and plain save for what was resting upon them.

It was then that the voice whispered in your head.

"Take up but one, and in binding it to yourself, walk the path of destiny."

You immediately began turning around, looking for whoever had whispered to you, but the haze and smoke obscured all after a certain distance, and the plinths remained, their single adornments still waiting under the illuminating light that seemed to come from nowhere.

Finally, you approached the plinths and saw that there was something carved into the stone, messages that seemed related to what was sitting there.

[]Trinity, who spits fire and steel unending. May you who bears her weight crush all under your heel.
[]Shadow, who cuts like a dagger. May his cloak shroud you in comforting darkness and rob others of all sight.
[]Majesty, who roars as a Queen. May her thunder shatter your foes and drown out the voices of those who defy you.

These must be the names of the strange weapons before you, though they are clearly no blade or club, and only one bears any resemblance to the pistols that some in Tristain's army have access to.

Leaving this place must require you to make a choice, and pick one of these weapons. But what did the voice mean by binding them to you? Did it mean doing the Familiar Binding on the weapon? The thought alone sounds ridiculous, but absent any real answers it is the only answer that bears any merit or logic to it.

Still, as you move to select your choice and go through with the Familiar Binding, you notice two portals just beyond the stone plinths.

One is the familiar view of the Academy courtyard, while the other shifts and swirls.

You feel several impressions but see nothing but light beyond it as you heft your choice and decide that you will do the Binding after going through the portal.

But which one?

[]Return to the Academy.
[]You feel drawn to the other portal, feeling a sensation of...
-[]Powerful magics, more powerful than what you know of.
-[]A terrible and all-consuming war.
-[]Adventure and exploration.
-[]Light and Darkness shifting in a constant balance.

Can we get physical descriptions of all three?

No analytical discussion then. :(
Well, maybe. Option one is a gun with endless bullets, maybe inspired by the Matrix. May grant pyrokinesis. Probably grants megalomania.
Option two is much more vague. Stabby shapeshifting cloak with light absorption maybe. Mental effects unknown, aside from probably making darkness comfortable.
Option three is by far the vaguest physically, so it might actually be a Familiar. Pretty obviously gives sound powers, and maybe something relating to rulership. May or may not grant megalomania.

More description would really help.
EDIT: Wait, I just checked the tags. It seems they're all guns. So... Machinegun, Sniper Rifle, Field Artillery? Is that why you didn't want to describe them?

Kingdom Hearts, here we come!

Why? For action votes, sure, that makes sense, but massively limiting information on build choice - traditionally the 'what sort of game do you want to play' vote - seems like it would do nothing but foster regret.
Because sometimes we don't get to have all the information when we make choices, and part of the story is dealing with the after-effects of those choices.

See, that makes sense if it's not a metagame choice. Choosing to trust someone, hurt someone, sign a contract? Those are all valid choices, and if they turn out to be mistakes later, at least we knew the risk.
But the GM refusing to tell us what the Artifact Weapons look like, when our character can see them, is just obnoxious. I can't make an informed choice, because I don't know any of the tradeoffs.
Anyway, that's my metaphorical two cents.

Louise doesn't really have the tools to describe firearms, though. 'Long, dark, metal tubes with some strange protuberances' and comparisons of dimensions is probably the best she can do.

e- :ninja:'d, huh.

or actually, Tristain does have firearms. Louise does mention that all but one is totally foreign to her and she has no idea how they differ in function.

Working off the assumption that they are guns, Louise can see them but cannot comprehend them. It makes perfect sense for us not to know what something is if our character doesn't know either.
Well the gm could describe it so we can understand it since we are suppose to understand what the character is seeing, just because they can't understand it doesn't mean we can't. I mean if this was a show/movie we'd probably all be able to instantly recognize it. The only reason we can't in this case is due to the limitations in writing... though it this case the gm is not even trying to describe them

Which is still fucking dumb.

As it is we are pretty much randoming shit since we can't say what different choices does, at which point this entire vote is pointless filler. GM could just roll the dice to same effect.

Contrast that to standard mystery votes where thread tries to guess option with GMs help, leading to increased activity and keeping quest bumped, or just flat out telling us pros and cons of different options, again leading to increased activity as players argue with each other about which option is better.

It's hardly difficult to interpret:
[]Trinity, who spits fire and steel unending. May you who bears her weight crush all under your heel.

Gatling/heavy assault weapon of some sort. Volume of fire is obvious

[]Shadow, who cuts like a dagger. May his cloak shroud you in comforting darkness and rob others of all sight.

Stealth, probably not actually a gun, but invisibility of some sort.

[]Majesty, who roars as a Queen. May her thunder shatter your foes and drown out the voices of those who defy you.

It could be artillery, it could be rocketry, could be energy weapon. It makes big booms, and that's all we need to know.

I agree with your point, but the anger is probably a little over the top.
