    [The 13th Turnabout]

    The foreigner in a puffy jacket crawls backwards until he hits the desk, sweating furiously. He reaches an arm out, waving frantically, as his mouth opens and shuts wordlessly. It's too late now, though. The shadow is upon him, striking downwards with the knife. There's a burst of feathers and, in the moment bought by the attacker's surprise, the foreigner reaches up and presses the little red button on the bottom of the desk. All across the building, gates slam shut, windows lock, and sheets of thick metal descend over the exits. The lights cut out, putting the pair in complete darkness, before-

    that's all the victim can see, the red light strobing across his attacker's face. He can see their features, their clothes, their knife as it descends upon him once more...

    The Judge bangs his gavel, silencing the hubbub of the collected audience. "The Court is now in session for the trial of Rebecca Caul."

    You look across at the prosecutor as she gives her little "The Prosecution is ready". Not a suit you'd seen in court before; certainly no Payne, and not quite up to the standards of an Edgeworth either. Paige Turner, you'd think they called her? Undefeated (of course), but a bit green to these parts. Thankfully she doesn't have a whip!

    "-ight?" You hear someone saying. "Wright? Wright!" You jump a little behind your desk, turning to the Judge. "Should I just end the trial now, Mr. Wright? You don't seem very prepared."

    "Sorry, Your Honor." You say, "The Defense is ready."

    "Are you? Why don't you lay out the details of the case then? It shouldn't be too hard for an Attorney of your caliber." The Judge gives you an all-too-familiar frown.

    "Y-yes, Your Honor. Ahem...the victim in this case is Pohr Ghai, a Khurainese visitor to LA. He was attending a conference at a local military base, to discuss things that are...classified, I believe. The military is unrelated - none of their officers were in the vicinity when Pohr Ghai, or his assailant, set off the lockdown. When we first found him, he had been..." You shudder at the recollection. "He had been Torn Apart, Your Honor."

    The Judge looks taken aback, eyes wide. "Torn apart? That sounds awful! Are you sure that-" There's a cough from Turner, and she looks up towards the Judge. "We've established the important facts of the case, Your Honor. Mr. Wright, would you mind telling us what happened immediately afterwards? I believe you were one of the first on the scene?"

    You put your hand to your chin and stare off, thinking. Remembering. "Well", you say, "the first thing that happened was..."


    Welcome, one and all, to the newest game of Mafia! This one has a bit of a different theme, you see, so I think I ought to mention it now:

    RULES
    1. Roles will be randomly selected.
    2. The game will be separated into Day and Night phases. Each Day phase is 72 hours, each Night phase is 48 hours or when I get all the Night Actions. If you have an extremely good reason, I may give an extension.
    3. Always always always post at least once per Day Phase! It'd be nice if you did it once every 24 hours.
    4. Lynches will be determined by plurality at the end of the day.
    5. Do not write illegible, hidden, or coded messages. Invisitext isn't as cute as you think it is.
    6. DO NOT DISCUSS THE GAME WITH OTHER PLAYERS OUTSIDE THIS THREAD. Only talk to another player elsewhere if there is something in your role that allows it. If you're talking elsewhere, impersonating other players is not allowed.
    7. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS. If you gotta fix something, doublepost.
    8. DO NOT DIRECTLY QUOTE YOUR ROLE PM'S. If you gotta mention it, paraphrase.
    9. When you die, you gotta stop posting. You get one freebie message of literally no game value, and then you're out.
    10. When you vote, make it REALLY BIG and REALLY BRIGHT. When you unvote someone, make it REALLY BIG and REALLY BRIGHT. ALWAYS INCLUDE AN UNVOTE MESSAGE IF YOU'RE SWITCHING YOUR VOTE SO I KNOW HOW TO COUNT IT.
    11. If you got a question, or you're confused about something, ask me.
    12. Finally, do not act against the spirit of the game. This is a nebulous term, but includes such things as "Taking your ball and going home". Always keep fighting for yourself, always be trying to win. Don't give up, basically.
    BREAKING THE RULES IS PUNISHABLE BY ANYTHING UP TO A MODKILL.

    Okay, but did you have to post your non-participation twice? That's more posts than people currently in the game :p
     
    Much as I'd like to, I think I'll sit this one out as well. Balance is proving elusive for the next game, and I'd like to work on that.
