Looking over at them, you point at a variety of long-rifles on the wall, "I'd like to browse your sniper rifles, please." Your handcannon will serve as a suitable close to medium-range weapon but for proper shooting at range you feel as though an actual sniper weapon would be more suitable.
The young woman at the counter smiles, "Of course. Long-ranged shooting is a good strategy to take. Never let them get close. Now then, you clearly aren't yet skilled enough to handle our other weapon systems, but you should be able to handle a Las weapon as well as normal guns. Now lets see..."
Quickly going over the weapons available, the young woman quickly grabs several and lays them out on a table in front of you, "These should do nicely for you."
She waves her hand at a small, compact rifle, "This is the Panmatic Frontiersman, a basic and serviceable rifle used by hunters and militia sharpshooters across the Wheel. Light, compact, and very good quality, these rifles are basic benchmark for long-range shooting anywhere in the Wheel."
Panmatic Frontiersman:
2k2I Damage, Pen 0, ROF S/-, Range 150m, Magazine 10, Reload Full, Accurate
Her hand indicates another weapon, "If you want something with a bit more punch, you can't beat something like this fine beauty from Bonejack. The Bonejack Bandit is a handy little toy that's almost as common as the Frontiersman, popular because of the three-shot pump-shotgun underneath the main barrel. The scope isn't typically used but with it the weapon becomes a fine sniper rifle."
"If that doesn't satisfy you, then perhaps I could interest you in one of the most popular long-las models out there in the market today." She indicates the third weapon, "The Able Pathfinder is the benchmark of modern long-las technology, it's even replacing the old Mk. LVXXI Long-Las used by the Imperial Guard. This nifty little weapon also has unique Radiation Carrier system, allowing the beam to carry a stream of radioactive particles to really harm tough opposition."
Able Pathfinder:
3k2E Damage, Pen 1, ROF S/-, Range 220m, Magazine 30, Reload Full, Reliable, Accurate, Toxic
"Finally, there's the Terra Star Arms MS-18, commonly known as the Slugger. This is a very long-range, punishing weapon designed around being able to shoot specially-made rocket shells for dealing with armoured opposition. This rifle is popular amongst most Wheel militaries and even has the approval of the Imperial Inquisition."
Terra Star Arms MS-18:
5k3X Damage, Pen 5, ROF S/2, Range 400m, Magazine 5, Reload Full, Reliable, Accurate
You then look up at the wall, and spot another weapon, "What about those?"
The two rifles you point towards are massive in size. Both of them are easily as long as you are tall and the young woman hesitates slightly.
"Ah yes, the STaV-90 Vulk Heavy Long-Las and the Barressi P-29 Slamgun; dedicated heavy sniper rifles primarily designed to bring down light vehicles and Space Marines. However, their size and weight might be a problem for you."
"I would like to see them up close," you request politely but firmly and the young woman brings the weapons down promptly as she explains their virtues.
Having a hard time seeing why we wouldn't want the Slamgun, at least in terms of stats. I mean, it's going to jam practically every other time we fire it at this level, but other than that I'm not seeing any reason why we wouldn't want to get it; anyone more familiar with the rules able to say why? Besides, the idea of Louise toting around a gun that can lob explosives up to 2 miles away... beautiful.
Reload Full: It takes a full round to reload the weapon.
Accurate: Gain an additional 1k0 to Hit when doing an Aim action. So doing a half-Aim for +1k0 dice becomes +2k0 and a full Aim of +2k0 becomes +3k0
Toxic: Upon taking damage, the enemy must make a Constitution test or take an additional Wound Level. For example, a Lightly Wounded opponent becomes Moderately Wounded.
Volatile: Instead of having to reroll on a roll of 10, the dice will explode on a 9 as well as 10.
The Vulk is probably a bad idea. The Recharge property means you can only fire every other round, which granted is less of a problem for a sniper rifle, but that's still tough to deal with.
Since we already have a damn fine hand cannon and a melee backup option, IMO the choice is between the Able Pathfinder if we want something capable and somewhat versatile, or the Baressi P-29 Slamgun if we're looking for something hilariously over-large for our tiny-but-fierce walking nuke.
1km range, volatile means more exploding dice (correct?), Highest penetration of the bunch at 20.
For when you need to turn targets into hamburger meat, if not a fine red mist.
Edit: Also, what's the difference between 'E' and 'X' on the damage dice?
The able pathfinder also seems to be more DMR than sniper. And to those who voted for the sniper: you guys wanted a rifle longer than how tall Louise is. Why are you not voting now?
