Executive Decision: reveal yourselves to the Factory Workers

As the foreman re-enters the packaging room of the factory, he looks at the carnage of the deceased worker, before he asks "Alright, who's the one who shot that monster? I need to give them both a recommendation for a raise, and a reprimand for bringing a gun to work."

For a while, no-one steps forwards, before the worker who'd filmed the entire incident said "I filmed the whole thing. Maybe if we look at the video we can figure it out?"

The group of workers crowd around the smartphone and watch the video, their faces going tense when they see the recording of the Chickenstein attacking. Soon, the video ends, and one of them says "Yeah, I can't see who did that."

This is when Harvey intervenes, making use of his newly developed Manifestations to lift a piece of paper on a clipboard and a ballpoint pen from a nearby table. He draws the worker's attention by tapping the pen against one of the machines, and as they gasp in surprise, Harvey begins to write a note to them.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Professor Harvey Walters and on behalf of the ghost community in Hawk Ridge I apologize for the scare that we gave you today. The chicken monster needed to be driven off with all haste to prevent it from attacking anyone else. Unfortunately I am unable to communicate with you easily as I am dead. I shall be experimenting with different forms of communication throughout the week to see if I can make this easier for us so do not be alarmed if you see strange glowing shapes floating in the air. Any feedback that you can give me to speed up this process will be appreciated.

As Harvey writes, the workers try and spot any strings holding up the pen and the clipboard, only getting more weirded out when they fail to find any.

As soon as Harvey finishes writing, one of the workers asks "So, did the ghost shoot that thing?"

Harvey quickly adds an addendum to his note, saying

One of my compatriots was the one who drove off the monster, but I myself did not take part.
There are a few moments of silence, before eventually the foreman says "Alright then! Apparently we got our asses saved by ghosts!"

This is when one of the workers asks solemnly "Will Jim be coming back?"

Unknown, but not likely. Whether someone beomes a ghost is basically random as far as we can tell, and the chances are low. We will know by tomorrow if he has successfully avoided oblivion.


The next day, when the corpse has been cleared away and the workers are somberly filing in, they find a note on a table saying

Action 2: Hunting the Chickenstein

The Chickenstein has got to go. It's caused problems for both your group of Ghosts and the living factory workers, and now that you've got guns that work properly, you've got what you need to actually kill the accursed thing. Ser Percival and Jonathan take it upon themselves to destroy the monster, flying into the woods in hopes of finding it. The two of them quickly pick up on the monster's Ectoplasm trail, and begin following it through the woods.

As it happens, this Ectoplasm trail leads the pair of Ghosts right back to a small building on the opposite side of town from the Nugget Factory, a house belonging to a man named Smith Johnson. It's quite obvious that the Chickenstein is inside, but for some reason neither of the pursuing ghosts can see any sign of a struggle. The two of them try to approach, only to find an ectoplasmic barricade similar to what RES and Dante tried to build blocking your way in. Jonathan pokes at the barrier and comments "Yeah, I don't think we've got the equipment to get through this right now."

Ser Percival replies "Indeed; we would probably need a siege engine of some variety to get through. I think a cannon capable of doing the job could probably be constructed based on the weapons we are currently using."

At this exact time, a man inside the building opens the door, and the two of them look on the face of a man with a short-cropped goatee and a crimson pentagram on his shirt. The Chickenstein politely ducks under his arm as he holds the door open, and proceeds out into the town after giving him a quick salute. The monster doesn't get further than the end of the driveway before both Ser Percival and Jonathan riddle it with bullets, pursuing the beast as it tries to flee. It takes nearly sixty shots between the pair of ghosts to bring it down, but ultimately it falls after being pursued for half a mile.

It's only after the pursuit ends that the two ghosts notice the news helicopter which had recorded the entire incident.

Meanwhile, a trio of ghosts has been trying to get better at affecting the material world, with the fact that the factory workers already know their workplace is haunted (and are mostly fine with it as long as it doesn't get in the way of doing their jobs) proving a great aid to their experimentation.

That said, for all the Ectoplasm that's gotten thrown around on Manifestations, a disappointingly small amount of total knowledge on how Ectoplasm works has been gained. It's still enough to enhance your methods significantly, but you can't help being disappointed at the lack of progress.

Action 4: Workshop Haunt

Revisiting the workshop haunt idea from a couple days ago and building on his experience making the cafeteria, RES tries to put together a set of tools that should help with making equipment for use, only to run into the issue that he doesn't have enough Ectoplasm on hand to finish it. That said, while he was testing one of the components he did manage to complete, he inadvertently wound up causing a fire at the clinic. Fortunately, Dante managed to put it out by levitating a nearby fire extinguisher into position and spraying it down. That said, him doing so happened in plain view of everyone, so it's pretty clear to the living that something spooky is happening at the Clinic.

This woks out more or less as hoped, producing a device that enables easy small-scale analysis of the properties a chunk of Ectoplasm has been imparted with, making the process of crafting a bit less haphazard.

Given that it's already been proven that a ghost can be injured, it makes sense to come up with ways to aid recovery. In this case, Gunther is trying to produce bandages that can help hold a ghost's wounds closed. This turns out to be surprisingly easy, especially since as far as you can tell microbes don't produce ghosts, or if they do, they can't reproduce. Polly turns out to be a decent test subject for the bandages, which succesfully keep his wounds from leaking, even if they don't actually heal him.

Event: A tragedy, we guess

On Friday, a small child is brought to the clinic in critical condition; burns cover the body of the girl, who can't be much more than seven years old at most. Her parents are obviously distraught, begging the doctors to do everything they can to save her. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff at the Hawk Ridge clinic, the little girl dies early in the morning on Saturday. Coincidentally, Jonathan and Ser Percival happen to be wandering through the clinic's burn ward at the exact same time, and get to watch as a new ghost takes form from the girl's dying body.

The two who just slayed the Chickenstein, only for the girl (who has opted not to keep her burns) to introduce herself as Annie.

Annie quickly finds herself basically adopted by the many ghosts around, but there's still the question of her parents, and what to do now that they're basically in the midst of a depression regarding the death of their youngest child.

Interresting, also first crit. We found the source of chickenstein, a filthy necromancer with his pet chickenstein, who is suddenly kinda adorable. Not cute enough not to get caugth in ghost shooting. Also Ser Percival feels in character .3.

Personality: Quiet and soft-spoken. Dante enjoyed life for all it offered, no matter what went right or wrong in his life, he could always see the beauty that was living. Sadly the cruel reminder that his time on this earth finite would always ruin what enjoyment he could find in life. Due to that, he adopted the path of a loner for he feared what would happen if he grew close to others, only for something to happen and take him from them.
Life Story: Dante at a young age learned one of the world's irrefutable truths. You are born into the world to die. This thought would constantly haunt him for the rest of his life until he could no longer take the mental anguish that would attack him at random. Two nights later he dressed in his finest clothes stepped into his mother's van started the engine and awaited his fate.

Self-Image:
Personality: A gruff old man both wise and intelligent, but somewhat abrasive in personality. Always calculating and never fazed by anything that happens around him. His weaker constitution meant that he developed an ability to simply out think everybody around him. Never really forgetting stuff and always adapting his way of thinking he was one of the few old people who transitioned into the digital age without problem, it fact it simply meant that he learned more faster. His death and ghost-hood never bothered him, he fully expected it after studying the work his grandfather, the only reaction he had to being in Hawk Ridge instead of Arkham was a raised eyebrow. In death he still hasn't changed, a quiet old man who speaks his mind to those that ask but always learning as much as he can.
Life Story: A splitting image of his grandfather Harvey took up the family tradition, learning all that he could about the world. Inheriting the family traits of a strong mind and amazing intellect and memory he studied many subjects over the years becoming proficient at many things. With a Ph.D in physics and chemistry he took up a teaching position at the University of the town he grew up in. He married Akachi Onyele a history professor descended from African shamans at 34 and raised a family who would eventually become professors as well. As the years went by he learned more and more, when he finally died with his family around him he had learned a great many more subjects, history, maths, occult lore, biology, computer science, psychology, language, engineering, English and sociology. As the University mourned the loss of one of its greatest minds, his children smiled, for they knew what lay beyond the veil, and they knew how to contact each other if they wanted to.

Self Image: Brightly coloured macaw, has almost unnoticeable bulge in throat where 'cracker' was. Almost completely transparent, fading in and out like fog in daylight. Being an animal turned sapient ghost ain't easy.
Background: For the first twenty-five years of his life, Polly lived a pretty good life. He had the run of a room converted into a cage by his owner (retired orthinologist), was fed premium feed, and generally was spoiled. With the passing of his owner, he was sold of with the rest of his owner's possessions at auction (owner had no will and no family) and was purchased by a young rich family. Kept in a too small cage he became bitter and sulky before choking to death when the daughter of the family gave him something he shouldn't have had. Has to put much thought into why he's suddenly thinking on human levels, but that's something to think about for another time.
Personality: A quiet, withdrawn bird, okay sorry that couldn't be said with more sarcasm. Polly tends to engage with others on his terms, that is to say often and loudly. Polly is a lot like the parrot, Iago, from Disney's Aladdin with more curse words and a dislike for children. Polly prefers the short form of his name over the feminine name he was gifted by his original owner. Tends to have a drive to ensure negligence such as what occurred to him in his first year doesn't happen if he can help it.

Loves learning, reading, training and adventure. He understands what modern technology is and excepts it as technology but is still behind on the times.
Life Story: Born in Engeland during the medieval period, Ser Percival always was an odd one. Shuned during his younger years for his talk of monsters and spirits, he grew up in solitude. Spending this time on honing his body, mind and skill he redeemed himself in the eye of his familiy through his skill and sheer willpower.
Although always stayed a bit flamboyant he became a trusted figure in militairy, his ability to quickly adapt to a situation made him a natural on the battlefield. While respected on the field of battle, in the courts he has mainly tolareted. His tales of his 'monster hunts' and 'battles againts ghouls and sorcerors' made him a beloved by the young and hated by the adult. He would often disappear for weeks on end to 'fight the supernatural'.
He died on the battlefield, after giving a speech to rally his man. His warcry was interrupted by a (un)lucky arrow straight into his mouth, throwing him off his horse. His first words on reforming as a ghost were "I knew it!".
Following this he haunted his old manor for a while, before growing bored. When the brittish left for America -the new world- Ser Percival was flushed with excitement and hitched a ride. Here he mostly explored America (and some of Canada) for the following centuries. During the second world war, he was trapped by a Necromancers researching ectoplasm. After a raid on the compound, ser Percival was stuck trapped until a few months prior to the start of the story. Freed by a group of teenage paranormal investigators, he thanked them for freeing him before researching for a place to recuperate. Choosing Hawkridge (because it reminded him of his own name) he stayed silent for a while to regain his strength.

His natural curiosity, instead, has only increased, both by the universe turning out to be radically different from what he thought it was like, and the feeling like he has recieved a second chance tolead, if not a happy, at least a satisfying existence.
Life Story: Born and raised in a small town, Darius has never connected well with his peers. In spite of his higher than average intelligence, he never achieved anything great academically, due to his tendency to procrastinate and never being able to find a pssion to put his mind behind. Ascribing his relative failure to his environment, he decided to move to a big city out of state, namely Seattle, and start studying chemistry. Here, disconnected from the few social links in his hometown, and further disappointed from his average scores, he took up fsynthetising and self-adminstering various drugs.

Born a brillant child to reasonable well of middle class parents from a young age he developed a love of books and all things fantasy, wich sadly also made it so that as he grew he became progressively more disillusioned with the mundainity and futility of live, but with time he was able to work things out , he practiced matial arts regualarly, read a lot on almost anything, had a pet, a bunch of friends that shared his hobbies, a girl he was building courage to ask out, a job he liked and graduation was just around the corner, so he actualy looking forward to a pretty good if mundane life, then he was hit be lighting. Life Story: Ragna applied to her local police force as soon as she got out of university with a BA in criminal justice. After being accepted, she threw herself into the job with gusto, earning a reputation as something of a workaholic. Eventually, after a few years, she became part of the local SWAT team as well. Her career continued as such until a moment of bad luck sealed her fate. On her last operation, Ragna ended up taking half a magazine of bullets from a suspect with a high-powered assault rifle, and at such close range that her Kevlar vest was woefully insufficient. She died quickly from the massive trauma and organ damage. After that, and finding herself now a ghost, Ragna went wandering; she came upon Hawk Ridge and decided to stay due to the high concentration of other ghosts.

Interresting, also first crit. We found the source of chickenstein, a filthy necromancer with his pet chickenstein, who is suddenly kinda adorable. Not cute enough not to get caugth in ghost shooting. Also Ser Percival feels in character .3.

You seem to already have come to decision to recruit ghosts, but we can also try to make them. Is risky, but possibly it wil pay dividence.

Wel, seeing as you have a decent combat score and a gun, Why not snoop around the necromancers house? Granted, might attract his attention, but I think murdering his pet did that already. He might have traps in the place tho.

1. My character killed themselves, and only after becoming a ghost did he realize what a mistake it was to do so.

Yeah more ghost would be nice but IC he would try to stop someone from doing the same.

1. My character killed themselves, and only after becoming a ghost did he realize what a mistake it was to do so.

Yeah more ghost would be nice but IC he would try to stop someone from doing the same.

2. If you want I could help with the research now?
I agree that it is in character.
For it would Also be in character to monster hunt Again or form the get go. Granted I imagine that Percival tries to be smart but sometimes loses it and just Goes monster hunting. It is how He relaxes.
So yeah, it is in character but kind...it is not something you have to do now. Granted it will probally give us Some good wil, So If you do it don't forget to use your manifestations to make it easier.
Like I said to @ConfusedPotato you don't have to help, but it would be appraiceded. Granted this is a multiple phase plan. You can help next turn If you want to.

Goodwill and low-risk method of training diplomacy? After all, sometimes, it only needs someone telling the person to not do it to prevent it.
It's a filler option. I had no idea what to put there. Also, I figured that if anyone would be able to successfully get across that being dead won't solve your problems, it would be a ghost.

Self-Image: A black void with two white ovals that are stand ins for actual eyes. Disliked his appearance in life, so he chose to assume a generic humanoid form.
Personality: Never having shaken off the lethargy caused by his demise, the self-renamed Shade is slow-witted yet blunt, lacking insight and efficiency both. He talks little and thinks a lot, preferring to keep his own company, although rarely about anything relevant, but he at least isn't averse to some dirty work if it needs doing, even though the ghost rather prefers to help with odd jobs behind the scenes as opposed to brawling with other creatures.
Life Story: A truly unremarkable individual, David Selt went through life without much of an issue, until he was mugged one night and stabbed to death. He floated far away from his city, eventually ending up in Hawk Ridge just as the ghost started becoming active. Drifting about, looking less and less like himself and more like a shade, he didn't actually find any ghosts until the masquerade was broken, at which point he stumbled upon one of their operations, kicked himself for missing them, and quietly started helping out.
