The Lonely Lioness - Cersei Lannister Quest

A promise to Doran that he will soon get the bleached skull of one Ser Gregor Clegane. We could also send an edict promising gold to any ironborn willing to fight for us (maybe have them intercept the Golden Company at sea).
Ehh. For the first, I'm still concerned about what Tywin's gonna do regarding Gregor.

For the second, I'm concerned about the greyjoys being... erratic, and hitting the westerlands out of spite for trying to order them around or something.

The first's objective is a way to start correspodence with a Lord Paramount that is likely to support a Targaryen in the hope that we can, at least, delay it. Also, by publishing the letter we can also put further pressure on Tywin to hand over Gregor.

The second's objective is not to order the Ironborn, rather, the objective is to buy the services of the ironborn independent captains before the Targs buy them. On the matter of buying the service of sellswords, we could maybe publish another edict promising gold for the head of Targaryen claimants. I mean, their armies seem to be formed by sellswords and traitors two the demographics that are quite prone to quit once things turn against them.

We could also start a correspondance with the Most Devout? The High Septon seems to be losing his hold on the church so, at least, knowing what the Devout want could be helpfull.

Edit:
Anything beyond "leave him alive" is counterproductive, frankly. But then, Tywin has an affinity for Gregor, them both being cruel bastards.
Yeah, if Tywin were half as cunning as he thinks he is, he would have denounce Gregor's actions on the Sack of King's Landing and then beheaded him before he could say that he was following Tywin's orders.

Imagine if tywin has him take the black and go to the wall. Imagine the kind of butterflies he'd make up there lol.

[] Plan: Personal Power
-[] Expand your own guard and maybe get a few good knights to protect you when the Kings Guard is away.
-[] Try to recruit some trusted informants of your own.
-[] Write to Lord Paramount Robb Stark: Express relief that the brief, misfortunate conflict between our houses was resolved without war and sorrow that it soured the late Robert's intent to tie our houses together. Still, the crown holds no animosity towards the North, and yet again offers a royal marriage to express the friendship Robert wanted of us. Should he be willing, instead of a northern queen, Robb himself might take young Myrcella for his lady once she comes of age, and let the Realm be stronger than ever together.

Okay, maybe not both, but I think Cersei really needs to expand her personal power. Either get her own spies or takeover Petyrs holdings while he's gone. Otherwise, maybe investigate Petyrs finances and shady dealings.

Also extend the offer of a royal marriage to Robb. Do y'all have ideas for more letters we could write, things we could ask Pycelle or the High Septon to do?

Could we order Pycelle to do the Targ research action? History *is* supposed to be the maester's job.
Maybe Varys instead? Their personal history would mostly be in Essos have to be discovered by agents abroad. Pycelle and the maesters would lean towards scholarly history.

Maybe we could ask Pycelle to assist Cersei in investigating covering for the maester of coins absence? He can probably do that job adequately.

Caught up to everything and damn there are lots of problems. Targs or claiming to be Targs showing up and having these little rebellions while others making moves in Essos. Not to mention Blackfryes.

Little surprised by the moves of the Royces. Doing their own little rebellion against the Baratheons and Arryns? Pretty bold of them to do that even with that marriage if it's even a real Targ. And Lysa being Lysa as always.

Honestly there is so much to do and not enough actions. Making our own personal power, looking at the money, everything in the Riverlands, the Faith in Oldtown, Dorne and stuff happening in the Crownlands.

Not sure if this is meta-knowledge, but Varys is himself angling for a restoration, so I'm not sure we could trust any information on Targ claimants we got from him to be true.

There is no marriage you are aware of. They are simply backing a Targ claimant much like the Pointsmen are doing.

Huh then even more a surprise. Supporting a female "Targ" with little support if you think about it in the Seven Kingdoms size. Hmmm I'm sensing something fishy and it isn't just the situation in the Riverlands talking.

[] Plan Missing Finger
-[] Dig into Littlefingers books. The crown is in debt and you need to know how bad it really is.
-[] Talking with Baelish gave a good insight into how his businesses work. Now that he is away from court, you could try to subvert some of his agents for your own ends.
-[] Drink some Shade. Maybe it will let you rest again. (Free Action)

Well, here's my current idea for a plan.

I mean yeah, but we can't do anything about Arya. A royal marriage in which we entrust Myrcella to Winterfell rather than Sansa to the Red Keep is about the highest extension of reconciliation we can offer. If he refuses there's nothing more we can do really.

I really doubt that Robb will ever be friendly with us, considered what happened to his father. Not to mention that Arya is still missing.
Is it known that Arya is missing? I suppose it must be, since we gave up Sansa and the implication of not doing the same with Arya is pretty obvious. Not to mention that Ned and Sansa can tell people they don't know where Arya is. Given that, do we want to promise Robb Crown resources to the end of finding her and restoring her to her family?

Searching back, Varys was aware Arya escaped but there's been no word of her since, or at least Robb hasn't said anything if she made it back.

Do we even have those resources to offer? We are pretty busy with the "Targaryen" wave headed right toward us, and we should be putting any extra resources into that.

That Arya is missing can be considered common knowledge at this point. Or maybe she isn't. You are not getting a lot of reliable information out of the Riverlands, because most of the people there are not exactly on speaking terms with Cersei right now.

The fact that literally every LP in the region is choosing to give us the silent treatment is rather unfortunate, to say the least. At least we've managed to prevent an actual war from breaking out between them (yet). Although the fact that Robb's hanging around with an army in Saltpans is, uh, not encouraging.

Vary coughed lightly after ending his report, dabbing some sweat from his brow as he spoke. "As you see, your majesty, the situation in Volantis remains volatily. The violent death of the Old Bloods favoured pretender makes it even more precarious."
Oh? I'd thought that guy one of the most promising Targ claimants, looks like he got taken off the board violently. And it leaves the Blackfyre wielder without an immediate rival.
Was this her curse for having Pycelle make sure that Jon Arryn would not survive his sickness? Or for having Lancel get Robert drunk enough to kill himself?
She's certainly racked up her share of sins.
Her eyes briefly fell to the High Septon, who was nervously holding his crytal crown in his hands. Another failure. The gods foremost servant in the world, sent back home with his tail between his legs by some lowborn septa. Maybe Stannis had the right of it after all. His choice in gods seemed not all that much better than hers, though maybe there was something out there that actually helped you if you prayed to it.
Well, that whole plan could have gone a lot better.
The entire Small Council waited for her to say something and after weighing what she could stomach to liste, Cersei picked the most vexing topics. "The Riverlands," she simply said and a few quiet sighs went through the room.
Yeah, everyone's sick of this mess in and out of character.
Pycelle, for once, answered first. "I have passed all letters to you that I've received, your majesty. Still nothing from Edmure Tully."
Why the hell is that damn trout giving us the silent treatment? I'm seriously about to consider handing off the Hand position to someone else, because we could really use the help. But he hasn't said no either - ugh, the whole thing's just very frustrating.
"The Kings party is riding east still with Edmure Tully, the Kingsguard and a host of riders from your fathers retinue and the Riverlander host," Varys added. "I believe him to be safe, your majesty. Six of the seven greatest knights of the realm are protecting him after all."
Okay, it seems Joffrey's linked up with a bunch of people and is now riding to the Crownlands. Shame he couldn't earn any glory fighting Clegane, but he might still be able to earn his spurs against Cearn.
Cersei just scoffed in return and took a sip from her cup. Ser Borous Blunt was certainly great, but not in any sense that was reassuring.
Yeah, I was kinda hoping the Mountain might knock off a few of the less impressive members. We could use some fresh blood.
"And where is..." She paused, catching her tongue before saying what she truly tought. "My brother Tyrion?"

"Still missing after he escaped his cell. Lysa Arryn had knights searching for him, though the sellswords likely took him through the mountains to evade pursuit. With the pretender in Runestone, they might have broken off the search." Then Varys went quiet for a while, carefully studying Cersei while bowing. "Of your family, it is him who I presume to be in the greatest danger."
Well, this is interesting - no trial by combat, it seems, although he may still be accompanied by Bronn. I wonder if Jaime was also involved? Still, the sooner that damn Imp is back behind friendly lines, the better.
Her other brother was still missing, though the rumors of a knight in golden armor riding through the Riverlands were reassuring.
Or he's up to something else? Christ, Jaime, will nobody just tell us what's going on?
The rains would pass. Just a few more months at most and they would sweep the pretenders into the sea with the hosts of the Reach and Westerlands marching together under one banner. She just had to remember that and the better days that would be coming to keep some warmth where the fireplace could not reach.
Right, looks like things are about to kick off - and Cersei seems confident Olenna took the deal. Gods willing, the Reach will declare for us, and from there our position in Westeros becomes infinitely more secure, even if dealing with the Tyrells will become a big headache.
Mountain and Vale - The Imps Escape
Tyrion Lannister, who had been imprisoned in the sky cells of the Eyri for the last few months, has escaped them with the aid of a number of sellswords. Lady Lysa Arryn accuses him and House Lannister as a whole to have poisoned her late husband Jon Arryn to cover up the true parentage of Joffrey Waters. His whereabouts are unknown at the time, though it is widely suspected he is travelling towards the Riverlands and the hosts of House Lannister.
Ugh, looks like Lysa's throwing around accusations that can't be taken back. And I thought he was guilty of trying to murder Bran Stark? There was the whole plotline with his knife and all, that's why Catelyn was after him. Who knows, maybe's Lysa's just throwing around accusations - but it's shit that cannot be taken back. One way or another, we're going to have to send an army to the Vale.
Mountain and Vale - Another Pretender Lands
In the south-eastern Vale, another pretender to the Iron Throne has landed. Matavarra Heartfyre claims descend from Prince Duncan the Small, who renounced his claim to the Iron Throne to marry his love Jenny of Oldstones. House Royce as declared their support of her claim, stating that Joffrey Waters is a cruel tyrant beneath his genial facade. They are joined by House Grafton of Gulltown, who proclaimed for the pretender queen after a parlay in the hills of Runestone. Both houses have raised their Banners and Lysa Tully has called all other houses of the Vale to aid the Eyri in response.
Okay, I didn't expect this. What the hell is Royce up to, pulling a stunt like this? I hardly took him for a Targ loyalist or an opportunist, and the Graftons were supposed to be on bad terms with them after the Rebellion. The entire Vale's just lost their damn mind, it seems. Who the hell knows what Baelish is up to at this point.
The Riverlands - Tense Nerves
Three armies are currently camped in the Riverlands and despite no hostilities so far, the situation is more than tense. After the capture of the brigand and kinslayer Gregor Clegane, Lord Paramount Tywin Lannister has made camp with his host in Harrenhall and so far refused calls by Lord Paramount Hoster Tully to turn his prisoner over or to vacate the castle. He intends to spent Hearth Season there and made indications that he will then march south to support Kings Landing.

To the east, the hosts of Lord Paramount Robb Stark, wielding Ice as proof of his ascension and leading a force of Riverlanders and Northmen, has taken up quarters in Saltpans. Meanwhile, King Joffrey and Edmure Tully have led a small force made up mostly of heavy cavalry towards Maidenpool and it is rumoured that the king intends to join he host of Lord Rykker in Duskendale to strike at the pretender Caern Targaryen.
Ugh, what a headache. Tywin got to Gregor first and no doubt will refuse to hand him over, and Robb's just wandering around with an army and no apparent purpose. I think we need to address the matter somehow, although it's tempting to defer until other fires have been put out.
Iron Isles - Raiders Gathering
With the looming war, many raiders and captains are returning to the Iron Isles, bringing with them all kinds if treasures and wild tales. Some others, mostly independent captains who care little for the desires of lords and kings, have been going the other way, lured by the promises of rich plunder in the Stepstones and the burning Disputed Lands. What Lord Paramount Balon Greyjoy thinks of all this remains a mystery though.
Gods willing, he'll zerg off to the North for no reason again. Although I suspect we won't be quite so lucky.
Crownlands - The Pointsmen Rebellion
A sizeable host of Essosi sellswords under late Aerys the Mads younger brother Caern Targeryen has landed in the Whispers and now made camp near the keep of Rook's Rest. Travellers tell of court being held, with wine and women ever present as the prince turned sellsword holds court among the Pointsmen that joined his banner. Opposed to this are the banners of the Crownlands, called upon by the Queen Regent Cersei Lannister and now camped in Duskendale under command of Lord Renfried Rykker. With Hearth Season beginning, many suspect both sides to remain in their camps until campaigning season begins anew.
No battle yet. With reinforcements approaching, playing for time is in our favor, although I'd like to see this pretender ejected sooner than later, because there will be more.
Crownlands - Treason on Dragonstone
There appears to truly be no honour among traitors, as the houses Velaryon and Celtigar have betrayed their erstwhile master Stannis Baratheon. On the command of another Targeryen called Aukar Brightfyre, who had been spotted working with Caern Targeryan during the landing at the Whispers, the Royal Fleet and the garison of Dragonstone began to slaughter each other once Stannis Baratheon had left the island with most of his forces. While depleted from the fighting, the remnants of the fleet and the old seat of House Targaryen now once more fly a dragon banner.
Well, this is unexpected. And good! Stannis's fleet has been damaged, and the blockade on the Blackwater must be disrupted. Curious what happened to Selyse and Shireen - I assume they were taken hostage?
The Reach - Festival in Oldtown
The otherwise often little remarked on 7th day of the 7th month, a day celebrating Hugors of the Hills engligthenment, was celebrated greatly this year as a Septa named Shay Waters brought the altar made by Hugors own hands to the Starry Sept. Smallfolk and nobility alike celebrated the auspicious events and scores of knights reaffirmed their oaths and asked for blessings on the altar. The only shadow marring the joyous event was the presence of the High Septon, who quietly returned the capital after the Most Devout made it clear that his presence was unwelcome in Oldtown.
Well, looks like our plan to use the Faith for PR turned out a flop. That's ... frustrating, if ultimately not a huge setback. Guess the High Septon can go back to sitting in a corner.
Stormlands - A Great Tourney
On the meadows south of the Summer Hall ruins, a great tourney was beign held by the Lords Paramount Renly Baratheon and Mace Tyrell. They wished to once more capture the spirit of old chivalry and bright summer nights with feasting and jousting from dawn to to dusk, and drinking and merriment from dusk to dawn. Grant proclamations were made too, as the younger Baratheon claimant picked seven of the most capable knights in attendance to proclaim them his Rainbow Guard.

There was much speculation that he would make other, grander proclamation or that Mace Tyrell would announce a marriage between the still unwed Renly and his daughter Margery, especially since both bannermen of House Tyrell and Stormlanders had made war camps near the festival grounds. However, no such things were announced and as the Curing Season fades, many in the region wonder what the two Lords Paramount are planning.
Well, it seems we've managed to gum up Renly's plans to at least some extent. It remains to be seen if the Tyrells will declare for us, but this is still a win - a combined Reach-Stormlands host marching on KL is an apocalyptic scenario for our unsteady regime, and any amount of time bought to prepare is in our interest.
Dorne - The Red Viper Rides
Oberyn Martell, brother of Lord Paramount Doran Martell and technically an exile, has been seen travelling from one Dornish court to the next on an unknown errand. With him were Arianne Martell, heiress to Dorne, and a gaggle of bastard daughters of his mostly known as the Sand Snakes. One of them though, a new addition, has quite different rumours attached to her than bawdy tales of the younger Martell brothers exploits. Behind closed doors, she allegedly revealed herself as Rhaenys Targaryen, who had been successfully spirited away from Dragonstone by none other than Sword of the Morning Arthur Dayne.

Many dismiss it as a wild story or some ploy by the Red Viper, though there have been persistent rumours that Dayne survived Roberts War and had been spotted working as a sellsword in Essos in past years.
Yeah yeah, blah blah, we'll come down and kill you all whenever it's convenient. I'll be talking to the Yronwoods in the meantime!
Braavos - The Arsenal in Full Swing
Braavos is preparing for war and there is no doubt about it. Sellswords reports agents of the Sealord Ferrego Antaryon ranging as far as Pentos and Lorath to buy up contracts in large number and the Arsenal of Braavos is working triple shifts to churn out carracks and cogs at frightening speed.
Well, this is concerning. Hopefully they're inclined to fight our Essosi rivals instead of trying to back a pretender of their own? We should try and do some diplomacy first, though - we've bought some goodwill from the bank, might as well use it.
Pentos - Conclave of Dragons
A quiet meeting took place in a manse on the outskirts of Pentos where multiple of the Targaryen claimants talked with each other. The attendants were Aerys Plummfyre, who organised the whole affair, Matavarra Heartfyre, Valarr Brightfyre, who had not yet publicly announced a claim to the Iron Throne, Shasta Blackfyre, who made no claim yet either, and two Ironborn pirates. One Yara Drumm, speaking for Helaena Wildfyre that has claimed the Stepstones as her own, and Euron Greyjoy, who called himself a "Saltfyre" according to rumour.

What was said in these halls or what was agreed upon remains a mystery, though all claimants were later seen to have departed to attend to their own affairs.

Pentos - The Golden Company
Shortly after the Conclave of Dragons, the Golden Company was seen travelling into Pentos after concluding a contract for a local cheesemonger. At their head marched Shasta Blackfyre alongside Harry Strickland. Their goal is unclear, but many have their suspiciouns.
I suspect this might be the most dangerous of the Essosi pretenders, and might also be the reason the Braavosi are alarmed. One way or another, expect the Golden Company to be sailing across the Narrow Sea before the crisis is through - best we have our own fleet up and running first.

[X] Plan: Playing For Time
-[X] Call for hedge knights and sellswords to generate further troops. Promise wealth and lands of traitors.
-[X] Learn more about Shade of the Evening and what the dreams it brings might mean.
-[X] Drink some Shade. Maybe it will let you rest again. (Free Action)
-[X] Letter: Write to Dragonstone, recently occupied by one 'Aukar Brightfyre,' apparently in league with Cearn Targaryen. But there can only be one King of Westeros - perhaps there's an opportunity to be exploited? Sound out what exactly the foreign invader is after; whether he's intent on claiming the Iron Throne or assisting another in doing so, or if the man is open to cutting a deal with the Baratheon-Lannister regime. Also inquire as to the dates of Shireen and Seylse Baratheon, and if he would be willing to accept a ransom for King Joffrey's bereaved relatives.
-[X] Letter: Write to Yronwood. House Martell is beginning to openly court rebellion, but not every Dornish House might be so enthusiastic for another northern excursion for Martell royalist delusions. And even if the Yronwoods are not open to an arrangement, publicly courting them will still place pressure on Sunspear and remind them of the potential costs of intervening in the current succession conflict.
-[X] Letter: Write to Braavos, inquiring as to the nature of the Free City's recent militarization. You will have hopefully bought some goodwill with your prompt response to the Iron Bank; see if the bankers can be convinced to get your envoys an in with the Sealord and more than platitudes for their time. Assuming they aren't blown off and the Braavosi aims are not hostile to that of the Iron Throne's, broach the idea of cooperating against targets of mutual hostility.
-[X] Letter: Send an Envoy to Myr; as one of the only Free Cities not to host some manner of Mummer's Dragon and with its holdings in the Disputed Lands under threat by one of the more threatening examples, the City of Glass may be open to cooperation with the Iron Throne. Promise the Conclave of Magisters various trade concessions and the possibility of more direct assistance in the future should they strike against 'Visenya Redfyre.'
-[X] Letter: Write to Pyke; inquiring to Lord-Paramount Balon Greyjoy as to whether he'd allow his captains to accept letters of mark against foes of the Iron Throne, given that there are many in the Narrow Sea at the moment. It will also serve as an opportunity to test the allegiance of the thus-far mercurial ironborn.

With the Point in revolt, we've got a handy source of free land to offer once they're defeated, and an injection of sellswords and hedge knights could tilt the odds in our favor with the relatively close battle forming up at the moment.

Meanwhile, I'm inclined to further investigate and use the Shade of the Evening. It helps keep Cersei stable, but we need to learn more about it if we're gonna keep using it - and it might help make sense of the visions.
