Tell The World That We Tried (Battletech CYOA) (Complete)

Hanse grinned. "The fact she has that shapely Champion, and is shapely herself, doesn't hurt, I'll admit." He shrugged. "What interested me more was the work she put towards even a temporary camp. That not only saved us some money, it saved time, as well, and Hoff benefited."

Hanse, you remain a dirty old man.

Ardan smiled. "Though I'll admit, when they saw though your ruse, having ... Moses, wasn't it? Guide you to a chair where Blackwings herself plopped in your lap and made sure you stayed by a pressure point, amused several of the Guard, as well as..."

(Face down on the floor with her on his back, having escaped literal hogtying only by the grace of a well-timed cry of 'uncle'...)

"Intrigued? She was ambushed by twice her strength in 'Mechs, lead by Natasha Kerensky herself... And beat them. To the point the Black Widow ran."

Asha: 'Beat' is altogether too strong a word, given the shape I was in.

"That's one, yes. Second, Get MIIO to send a team to Helm. Third? Place an open contract for her, period. Rates are at her discretion. Assuming that Katrina lets her go. Which she'd be a fool to, Blackwing is that rarest of rarest professional, and worth her weight alone in gold. Fourth, and last? MIIO is to find out at all costs - short of harm to Colonel Blacking and Captain Kerensky - what the hell happened in that face to face, and why Natasha is ... cautious and angry at Nutcracker." He grinned at the last. "It' s not like Natasha has nuts to crack, unlike me, which was used at a threat..."
I do have plans for what Katrina will ultimately decide to be a suitable reward... But that's for the future.

Eh, it's around two years (I checked, since it's pretty clear it happened after the Combine wanting to celebrate the New Years with the Davions!) (She died in Jan/3014), so... *shrugs* Partly though, I suspect his reason, is ELH's CO, and the Davion on the scene reported good things, and willingness to do more than just 'look' after her unit, and likely the information about the 'temporary' camp the Blackwings set up, hit too. So, he'd be curious about this promising young colonel. And it's much easier to pretend to be a 'stock' Davion officer and get a better picture if the unit is what it seems to be, (same with the people) than be all "Hanse Davion, First Prince, Fox, and Trolllord." since (and most units and officers would be this way for mercs) if he did that, they'd be fawning and at the very least, putting their best foot forward. He wanted an unbiased view, is my view.

You've actually hit on exactly the logic I figured he'd arrived at, except that the Blackwings weren't even on his radar until he reached them on the list of interviews he was doing. His real objective was to get that unbiased, first-hand view of the results of his plot to sucker in and destroy the 3rd Sword of Light - in this setting, the first time he'd attempted to, well, Pull A Hanse as First Prince.

Having an interview start with "You... wait, what? What? Where the fuck are your bodyguards?" was a bit of a record-scratch moment for him.

I think it was Blackwing Military Systems and Solutions.

Very close! Blackwing Military Solutions and Services

@Valles if it isn't too troublesome could you put together informational threadmark what BMSS has in their roster or a link to whatever you use to keep of Asha's Units?

Hanse, you remain a dirty old man.
Hanse: "Hey! I'm not even middle aged yet!" Pause. Pause. "And what'd YOU do?"
(Face down on the floor with her on his back, having escaped literal hogtying only by the grace of a well-timed cry of 'uncle'...)
Want edit to fit?
And: hanse: "Back, Lap, shapely martial artist female who's hot on me. Yes, yes, I'm a pervert, we know this..."
Asha: 'Beat' is altogether too strong a word, given the shape I was in.
1: Telephone effect, for one, and MIIO not being directly, 100% on site.
2: You held the field, broke the Nighthawks, and Natasha Kerensky retreated. You beat her. Doesn't mean you did not pay a price, just you won, she didn't. Number of people that can claim that they forced her from the field and caused her to fail her mission (at this point in 'time) you'd not need to remove your boots to count them. Number that started with roughly equal forces you might not even need to use your second hand.
Winning isn't cheap against Her.
I do have plans for what Katrina will ultimately decide to be a suitable reward... But that's for the future.
Title, loot, Title, Loot, it's the Lyran way!

Though when talking to his cousin (the divorced LtCol) and the ELH's Co on site, both would have very nice things to say about Asha. Very, very very nice.

BMSS....
I think there's a joke in there...

Truth of the matter is, Katrina would be insane (and she's not) to let the Blackwings go. After Chapter 7 events, she's on Katrina's radar too...

NHO, you forgot Aerospace. I repeat: Sawagasa is literally one of the top 10 fighter commanders in the galaxy. 4 of which (one replaced her) work for the OWA. She literally might be the best merc Fighter boss period. And she's got a clutch of OWA pilots, and is training to Flying NIGHTMARE status the rest.

That alone means "money money money"

After rereading the last chapter... Is Asha still paying her six new, Green, not even militia quality mechanised infantry regiments the reduced rates or the standard rates of merc infantry? I ask because I'm wondering whether she could even afford to pay them all and hire the necessary space force to loot Helm. On the other hand, I imagine that if she wants to keep her new infantry regiments then she needs to hit a place like Helm to afford paying them.

I'm worried about Marik sympathisers and plants in those regiments though, especially when targeting a Marik world and grabbing multiple regiments worth of LosTech Mechs, tanks, infantry gear and Nighthawk suits, let alone the engineering gear and the library core. Also nervous about the quality of the industrial mech pilots that have been hired on too.

Tolack: Let's just say this. I doubt most have any real loyalty TO Marik, what. So. Ever.
A few might have friendship/loyalty to their trainers, yes. But the FWL? After they're being exiled from their home? Ha. Ha. Ha.

AND they know (or should) that Asha basically laid it out. "You do this, I don't call massive bombing runs and arty strikes to kill most of you."
Asha gave them an honest, safe way out, at decent pay, for them, and a possibility of more, FWL pretty much was using them for catspaws.

You were saying about loyalty? (There IS some risk, yes. Not anywhere near as much as you think, though. But some)

Tolack: Let's just say this. I doubt most have any real loyalty TO Marik, what. So. Ever.
And wouldn't the fact that anyone, anywhere, in the entire Human Sphere, had any significant loyalties to any member of the Marik family kinda... break canon worse than Operation Serpent did the Smoke Jaguars? [/exaggeration]

*choke* *laughs* I'd have to agree, but generally, when I say Marik, I mean the FWL, not so much the idiots who after Marion called themselves Capitan General.
And as scary as it is, some people held loyalty, that they did.

For my part, I'm a little surprised she had the cabin space and life support on the droppers for that many people. An infantry regiment starts at ~750 people and only gets bigger, and she has six of them now. That's another ~4500 people she needs life-support, rations, and deck space for.

The lift didn't need to be all at once.

That said, yes, she's basically doubled her personnel count at minimum, and she was light on infantry only in comparison to most planetary garrisons, who quite frankly need an infantry unit's ability to be everywhere more than most assault forces do, which can pick their point of entry and what they're aiming for.

Implicit in accepting them is that she's going to need to long-term lease at least one big people carrier, yeah. Including crews for the technicals, I figure it's about five thousand people. The most common passenger liner dropship in the Inner Sphere has 266 individual cabins, each allotted the same mass and presumably volume as a seven-person infantry squad cubicle; three of them would do the job, or similar spaces installed in the cargo bay of something like two Mules.

On the upside, mercenary contract rates in the Inner Sphere are calculated relative to the number of people the unit has on its combat roster, so the decision should pay for itself in time. The part Asha won't like is that the combination of demonstrated skill at handling tricky situations with lots of potential security troops is going to make her people very attractive when it comes to garrisoning problem planets.

As for rosters... This one is only partly up to date, but it's what I have on hand. I'll come back and replace it with a final version after work.

If $ = "Owned by pilot, but lien on it", if *= "Pilot owned" I bet.

And I thought Asha owned Fortresses, not Unions?

Simplest solution for Asha is to buy a Mule, or two, convert it to a passenger carrier (also gives her the lift for dependents), and add yet another Merchant to her fleet... *runs*

Yeah, that'd be about 500 million Cbills book rule.
(Offhand, not counting Terra, IIRC, the entire Inner sphere is making 20 to 25 jumpships a year, using the FASA guides.)

Said problem planets being on the borders in most cases, and recent conquests. Or places where foreign powers are deliberately agitating the locals.

You know, the interesting places that get written about.

Ain't that the truth. Upside: Higher Pay. Downside: More havoc.

... I rather lower pay, it's hard to collect checks when, oh, you know, dead...
