Sardonyx: Scion and Trinity Continuum

Honestly? This is one of the better games OPP/White Wolf have made, at least imo, and perhaps the best. It neatly solves every issue I've seen with Scion 1e- although we haven't seen Hero yet, the Scale system provides a neat and tidy way for Gods to be on a far higher level than Heroes or Mortals without making them completely unbeatable and without the... uh, interestingness of Epic Attributes.

It's just... really, really good on every level.

So, how well would the core system work for other games? Would Storypath work for Exalted, Mage the Ascension, or a Magic the Gathering rpg?

I've been meaning to grab the book, but I haven't had a chance.

It's not impossible, but the paradigm is quite different. Would need a lot of work.

I think it can work with Ascension. Exalted could work, maybe by playing around with Scale. But need a lot more details to be done.

So if things keep a pace, Trinity will be fully funded in 3 hours, which I find to be a rather appropriate quirk of fate.

I'm really pleased with what I'm seeing so far. Someone else who actually has the Origins text would need to do a comparison, but thus far the Trinity preview has filled me with warm fuzzies.

They're the same system, just different fluff.

Something interesting I'm noting is the concept of 'flux' now, which suggests that:
1. They might be making Daredevils/Paramorphs the same thing (superpowered time & probability-manipulators)
2. They might stop calling the thing Novas are powered by 'quantum' (which is great because that was a bit too 90s)
3. They're actually seriously reconsidering the backstory which is nice.

I do like that they're explicitly going with the sort of weirdness that showed up in Adventure! existing in all the lines.

Yeah, I have since learned that my perception of differences is because the most recent version of the Scion rules I have access to is not actually the final version

Isn't making Daredevils and Paramorphs basically what you did in your rewrite? So of the rules were similar enough to stuff you had come up with that if you hadn't asked me to link the Kickstarter I would have wondered whether you were on the Trinity team like Revlid is on Scion.

Since Psi was noted in the lexicon as a thing in the setting and a rating that Psions have, but no equivalent blurb about Quantum, that would seem to be the case. Instead, they'll take a page from Battle Highschool Harem Quest and make everything run on Higgs Particles. :V

Possibly a dumb question, but how do I get the text for Origins? I looked at kickstarter and I'm not seeing a way to get it, and I don't know how Backerkit works.

For backerkit, you need to use the log in.

You'll get two log in options. One for Creators and one for Backers. Use the Backer one(you don't need an account on Backerkit). That'll take you to another page where you can search for your pledges. In this case, Scion. IIRC, there should be a confirmation email thing at some point, but after that's taken care of and you get to the Scion page, you can use the Digital Downloads bar to get Origins.

I found it, but my brother guilted me into letting him use the computer so I haven't read it.

The tables are painful to read without the formatting... Shame there are so many of them.

Other than that, it does seem to have fixed a lot of issues with the first edition, though I have only vaguely skimmed it for now.

Try 'most if not all'- it really is the biggest jump between two editions of an rpg I've ever seen.

Okay, so for the Trinity Kickstarter, does anyone know if you can get the Aeon Expansion stuff as like an Add On or something?

Because the Aeon Bonus stuff sounds a lot more interesting to me than the stuff being put up for the Bonuses to the basic book.

It doesn't look like it, you seem to need to get at least the $60 option at this point. I could ask if they intend to change that later, if you'd like.

Oh so this finally has a new edition? Is it out yet?

Scion is wrapping up. The text for Origins and I believe Scion proper is finished and in layout for the art.

The kickstarter for Trinity has started here; it is to be divided into two books. Trinity Continuum: Core and Trinity Continuum: Aeon. The Core will provide the core rules and a general modern setting to play in. Aeon will include the specific setting and rule information to play in the Aeon Setting.
