Re:Birth, A MMO Story

It was left to the next vote because some of the options might tilt people one way or another on what to buy or improve, since A gives a ton more slots and pushing a special feature to 3 might be more tempting if you can get it to 4. And it takes time for improvements to be 'built' so it won't matter for immediate actions as is.

"Well, I think that Sensational Guild is the obvious pick." Fluffy actually stated her opinion for once, instead of just parroting you or telling you she'd be happy with whatever you picked

"They all sound lame as shit. I don't wanna sit around and train on the training fields, and if something is my lowest level skill, it's because I decided it's useless. Four star stuff? Great, but we can't even afford three star stuff right now. More special features? Sure, lets just throw five shrines onto our property and make a proper godly temple in the middle of town, so we can all pray to go home. Just pick the one to make us more famous, because fame at least has gotten us recognized and gotten us quests faster and easier. I don't wanna have to go around building reputation in the next town, kissing asses." Lightning Hoof had her own two cents as you asked her as well, after handing over her spear.

I think more fame means more access to perks from NPCs like the specialized guard training, more generous rewards from NPCs, and more discounts with vendors.

The other major perks sound weak to me. Which isn't surprising as we've strayed from the core mechanic of the game. Combat perks are better because combat is the core mechanic of the MMO by which success is determined. Combat is how the vast majority of player time is spent engaging with the world. Other mechanics are secondary or tertiary and serve to support combat.

More special feature slots? We already have more than we can max out and we'll get more slots later when we move to a bigger claim after leaving the newbie zone for the intermediate zone.

More guild member slots? We already have more than we can use and we can always gain more later.

Training our lowest level skills or out-of-class skills faster? Typically those are our worst skills and most of our guildmembers will ignore them with good reason.

[x] G. Sensational Guild (JoaT Major Perk) - More than anything else, your guild is good at public relations, and everyone knows about them and their good deeds, even if they don't know the people within it personally. Doubles all Guild Fame gained, current and future.

I'd rather not go back into the Western Woods until tomorrow morning when we're fresh. If we go in weak and they kill us it'll undo our progress. If they're hiding in the graveyard then they're benefiting from buffs that make them much stronger, with hordes of minions to throw at us. If we go at the Death Pockets tomorrow when we're fresh then I expect we'll be able to push the aura below another threshold right away, making things a lot easier.

I'd rather learn about the fourth major threat and milk our new fame score with the NPCs.

Also an important note I do feel people are forgetting: you're not promised to get any of these options at 10. Unless you maintain a balance and pick another production one on your next 4 perks too, it's actually likely you'll be voting for a Mercenary Guild major perk, not a Jack of All Trades one, or even a Military Organization one if all 4 perks are combat ones.

There's a reason ones that aren't immediately of high use are being offered.

[x] A. Room For All Trades (JoaT Major Perk) - A guild that wants to do it all needs room to do it all. Permanently doubles the amount of special feature slots your guildhall has. (From 3 to 6 currently)

[X] 2. Head back out into the Western Woods immediately, and try to hunt down the Undeath Players, for revenge, rewards, and to lower the Death Aura.

Well, if we're likely to go mercenary or millitary then fame sounds even better.

Yeah, imagine if all our guild members get access to specialized training. I guess the guard one is over forever, but there's training from priests and that organizational they said Hita should seek out.

we need this buff if we want to safely close death pockets so we should take it now.

We have progress towards the White Tiger though:

[Total rewards: 10000 gold, +1 fame for all surviving members, 10% discount to all merchants and services in Asahi for all guild members. Stacks with other discounts. White Tiger Favorability

Though I don't see why everyone in the party need to get the blessing.

Another issue is the raffle vote, if we get the blessing and the death aura increases twice as much, then a single vote can make us do something unrelated to that quest line.

The Ghosts would like it, rather, because it uhm, lets them come out more naturally when we're at home. So uhm, one of the ones that helps us do that? Maybe?" Dark Blade wasn't pushy as he made his request. You hugged him, because he was just so adorable.

Dark Blade is a traumatized child that died to protect us. Let's make him, the other necromancers and ghosts happy. I'd be down for spending the voucher on the dragon shrine (if we have the space for it and if not then increase the space to get it). There's just one problem...

Your group is fairly diverse, but we could also, of course, create a shrine to one of the Great Spirits. But unless you plan to eventually create one to each, they might look unkindly to that. And well, they'd probably be unhappy regardless since you'd chosen one first. In which case, you may instead build a shrine to the Shogun, Sun of Yamato. It's said being pious will grant great blessings, and while perhaps the Shogun himself is not a god, he does have the support of the whole Ten Thousand. Of course, they'd be simple shrines to start."

It seems like if we go dragon shrine first, all the other town NPCs get upset since we played favorites. I'd be down to explain to Dark Blade that we get the Shogun shrine first and then next we save up for go to the dragon shrine with the other shrines coming later.

Since we have enough guild spots, we should invite everyone still on the streets to join to avoid swelling the ranks of the undead crew and let them know how they can be helpful (as payment for the guild lodging and membership, similar to what the researchers did to earn membership). Non-combat necromancers would be helpful for getting non-combat ghost contracts to help out the whole guild. Specifically cooks to help with feeding everyone, smiths to help with repairs and possibly architects/builders to assist with construction costs. Our non-combat necromancers could be made quite powerful to help out everyone. Non-necromancers could also be helpful through slowly leveling skills/combat or research/town reconnaissance. I'm sure Kitan can figure out something for them to do.

Goto Sharp the merchant said:
Did you really think that the only people who pledge their souls to the Azure Dragon's service are warriors? Nah. Chefs, architects, generals, smiths, you name it. Anyone who is a patriot and doesn't mind not having eternal rest can pledge their soul to Them. And then their priests can contract with them, just like with a warrior. So I'll be heading over to make some donations, and they'll be helping me with the task of building all these things you want."

"But you'd probably be able to just... ask at the temple? I know they're normally pretty protective of 'selling' contracts to untested necromancers, but your groups been making a pretty good name for themselves. They might be willing to do so."

This makes it immediately helpful to get our untested necromancers enough clout by being attached with us to get these production ghost contracts from the temple. They can then start training and leveling up to help out the rest of the crew beyond just researching. Also maybe it possibly boosts us into another reward by exceeding another fame threshold and being the first guild to do so.

6. You've taken the Western Woods out of immediate danger, head to Kirin town and find out more about its troubles and potential large scale danger.

We're almost 4 weeks into the game. Each direction has its own crisis with presumably its own timer for when things really get bad. We've got two party members approaching exhaustion. Let's at least figure out the problem the Kirin are facing and hopefully get an idea of what needs to be done in the area. Having more information would be helpful to make plans with the rest of the guild later in the evening regarding the remaining threats.

Kitan had the right idea there. If we can get the capacity boosting trait we can save up and buy all the shrines at the same time, not favoring any one over another.

I think if we do that and the guild solves all 4 themed crises we'll get a massive bonus from all the Spirits.

e have progress towards the White Tiger though:
It doesn't matter, we need the buff to have the best chance of succeeding, its better then just having extra points with our spirit patron, we can make up the extra points, we can't (or at least it would be very hard) if our enemies get lucky and manage to kill us and we drop some important equipment.

We need to keep hammering the undead faction, because they are a plyer faction and that means that adapt and plan and we shouldn't give them the time to try to pull something.

We have the advantage right now and we shouldn't squander it.

The latter... feels like it'll matter in the longer run especially if the Guild to stay interacting with the world's inhabitants. The former, not sure but more Death Pockets and might want to do as much as we can else, we're just delaying until we are forced to double down our attention to it.

[Congratulations, The Fluffens Foundation is the first guild to reach level 5. All guilds look towards you with jealousy at your growth, and your guild has gained one fame.

That's real nice, plus a level. LH really pulled through for us here, we should try to get her something nice later on.
"Did you see that, Hita-chan? I chose that skill because bam, now I can move you to help people in the back lines when they need you! It's like you having a charge move, but I get to do it! Aaaand I can also use it to pull you into my hugs whenever I want!"
Also, Fluffy is an amazing team player. The tank can't move fast? Well just move the tank to you! She'd probably be a good Raid leader if not for her constant need to be around us, but that's alright.

The other options aren't bad, but this feels most 'us' in terms of what we would pick. It also would help us get a lot of good benefits in the future, especially after what we've already gotten just through normal means. This path hasn't failed us thus far, so no need to stray from it now.

This seems like a safe bet for now. The lower the % the lower their stat boost is, so either finding a way to passively lower it or without potentially running into the other players would probably be for the best.

Good update. was a pleasure to read.

I really like Multi-Mastery too, but I figure it can wait till the next major perk when we might actually have guild members with out of class skills to buff. I also want 4Star, but that's also a later perk.

We shouldn't assume that the perks remain the same when we level up I think.

I think option 2 is a bust since the enemy players can just camp in the Graveyard with hundreds of zombies.

That is my worry too, but if we do the death pockets they'll ambush us which will be very dangerous to us as we'll be in exhausted again and LH won't be able to alpha strike the healer this time.
I think we should only do this if we bring reinforcements.

Other topic: maybe we should check out the other threats? The slime problem got so bad before we cleared it the town was preparing to ration food. The undead problem was near critical before we just nocked off like 10%. Maybe the other issues are also near-critical levels.

Wich is why we should get the anti-undead buff, it seems to be the mirror buff to the one the undead players get so it should be really good against undead.

And it would make everything so much easier.

Keep in mind that the death power has dropped by over 10%. The death pockets should be weaker as well because of that.

We could also write in to just grind undead in the forest. Itd be easier. It levels us. It lowers the death power. It keeps us fresh if they try to attack us.

Might be as safe and sure way to work on the forest problem.

Why do you say that?
Why do I say that the cost of angering the patron who doesn't actually give us any benefit right now is minor compered to ensuring we survive and win the ensuing conflict and don't drop in level and equipment (from which we draw a big chunk of our raw power) and endanger the town were in with the chance of our failure?

The price is very minor indeed for what we gain our off it.

The arguments for this are numerous. It's straightforwardly powerful NOW and forever. Think about it. It doubles all FUTURE Fame as well. We were already more famous than most, with this? Our name will be shouted from the rooftops. This would be incredible for getting stream fans in far off places to hear of us and travel to us. Also for secret quests, better quest rewards, training, ghost contracts, better prices etc. etc. etc.

[x] 7. You've taken the Western Woods out of immediate danger, head to Kirin town and find out more about its troubles and potential large scale danger. Then call it a day as everyone's tired, and take the party out for a restaurant dinner to show appreciation for Lightning Hoof and Dark Blade.

LH and DB are close to exhaustion, we shouldn't push out luck. We've done some good work and put the Fear Of Fluffens into Zaya and the Undead Players. We should take the time to remember we and our party are human beings. Relax, unwind. The Death Aura isn't going to hit 100% over the night and we can get back to it tomorrow when the party is in top condition.

Feels short-sighted. Angering our main patron for a benefit in 1 current conflict just doesn't seem worth it to me. If we wanna get that armor priestess subclass or whatever that seemed perfect for us we'd probably need to be in decent relations with our patron goddess.
