[] Calm the buck down, Sunset!
-x-
Okay! You force yourself to take a deep breath, forcing all of the urges to just running away—you are sick of running away, really—, or to inflict some random violence to these overwhelming people before you. Your force all those urges and just... stand. You're not sure why, or rather, you're not sure what to do.
To be honest, you are not a stranger by the spotlights. It came with being the Apprentice of Princess Celestia, and doubly so when you're the first Apprentice she had taken since... ever. Centuries, if you have to guess. But regardless, you are used to it.
Sometimes, you even took great pleasure at the attention. It feels nice, to be fawned and respected. Sometimes, some would get uppity and you would have to show why you are simply better than them, and then you would get more fawned over by it. Praised, and loved. You could still remember the startruck look of that filly, and how she expressed wanting to be like you. It felt nice, and still is.
But this is different. This reminds you of that long time ago when Sunset Shimmer was just some orphan trying to bite something more that she couldn't chew. It reminds you of the time when you weren't regarded as someone important, but just another accident no one would even bother flick an eye to.
Except now they are not staring at you like you are something that belongs in a trashcan.
Vaguely, you are aware of Marissa waving a hand over you and calling your name, but you ignore it. There's just something wrong. There's something you need to...
You pause and frown.
Then why are you acting like a goddess-damned hormone-infused filly? You were confident. And you should still be confident. Nothing less than having Princess Celestia trying to outright kill you should've changed that. Even on that morning, you were confident enough that you could still spite her by charging through that dmaned mirror. Granted, you were very lost in temper and sleep deprivation.
But when aren't... you?
You blink. You frown harder. Something is shaking your shoulders, and someone is shouting your name, but that's not important. You need to focus. You need to find the answer...
And of course, the answer is so simple, isn't? It's always simple with you. Because in the end, you are still a very simple mare. You wanted to be special just like her, so you took upon books, and you experiment spells after spells with abandone despite the bruises you had amassed. You wanted to be powerful like her, so you took upon her lessons like fish in water despite her vague advices, despite the many times it had made you want to burn and explode things. You didn't want to disappoint her, so you researched into that mirror. You researched to the point of crossing the very blurred line of magic.
And you have been in this world for two months doing everything else but proper magic because of some unreasonable fea that someone would burn you. Except, hpthere is actually magic in this world. New things to be learned, and old things waiting to be flexed.
And just like that, you feel an easy smile flit onto your face.
