Lands of Sand and Magi (First Crusade Fantasy CK2 Quest)

I'm not sure they are all attacking because of faith here, there might be quite a bit of greed here, maybe call them out on it? Or have the jews "support" the crusade?

[X] Do not go to Worms. Cologne is the path. "The Jews are damned for their heathenism. There is only one God." Or there's nothing you could really do anyways.
- [X] All the worlds problems aren't ours, alas. Only God may judge them.

@kızıl sultan

I'd like do a write in for a speech either for our band of peasants or to the people fighting to dissuade them. Would this be alright?

Write-ins are actively encoraged. I prefer and reward creativity, but they will be judged on whether or not they are permitted if they fit within the parameters of the game. I won't allow unreasonable (or game breaking) write-ins. Metagaming is allowed, because you can use historical knowledge to anticipate stuff, and I reward that. Nothing goes according to plan, as your PC is involved now, and there's magic. If you write a speech, it helps, if you write a good one, its even better and you may even get a diplo stat increase if its that good. Dice rolls are still the base deciding factor.

I'm not really statisfied with that. If anyone has something better I'll change it.

Edit: Quick question about the stats: since we gain stats as we successfully perform actions, do we lose stats if we horribly fail?

The only way you'd lose stats is by your ability to utilize them being permanently hindered. You may come across a temporary debuff here or there that will be added to an action from greater risk/reward chances. An example of a permanent hit is you lose your arm, or an eye, but survive because a healer saves your life. If you lose a limb, you'll take a serious martial hit for example.

Problem is we're on a quest to kill dudes from a foreign religion and seize their lands because it plays a large role in our own religion. It's a bit hypocritical to preach about love and forgiveness while we're crusading. I'm not sure that argument is going to stick with most of the people.

We're illiterate, as are the peasants beating up the Jews. What we and they know about the bible is interpreted by the local church. For all we know there's a priest among them with a hard-on for Jews giving that whole debacle some legitimacy.

I agree with it sounding slightly hypocritical, but you guys choose what you want to do, and the dice roll and your words will be the deciding factor.

You are illiterate, you have no idea what the bible says. There is no printing press, you don't even know what a bible looks like.

Voting is closed, the Worms write-in has won.

Chapter 2.5
Chapter 2.5: We Are All Worms

[X] Go to Worms, where the greatest amount of chaos is occurring...
-[X]...to try to stop the violence.
--[X] "To waste your God given strength on the undeserving is a sin; to ignore the will of the Lord - heretical. Dally not with the Jew, but make haste on your journey to the holy land instead. You suggest to Brother Thomas that the band should pass through Worms, stating that the pilgrims there are wasting time and effort for needless bloodshed against the Jew of all. He agrees. You begin to think whether or not this was a choice after all, as Brother Thomas seems the type to have agreed with you anyways.

+1 to Relationship with Brother Thomas.

And then you realize that it wasn't he who needed convincing. The two other Brother's from the Order of St. John joined you shortly after Thomas had sent for them. It was they who needed convincing.

[Diplomacy: 37 + 5/2 + 4 = 44. Success]

Thomas explained to them the situation. One of the men, Brother Freidrich, suggested the Jew was getting what it deserved, and that the Pilgrim's should not waste their time dallying in Worms. The other, Brother Jacob, was convinced by your words. As reluctant as he was initially, it was you and Brother Thomas' efforts combined that would convince him. Not wanting to arrive to Cologne with such a small host as an offering to the service of the Lord, Brother Friedrich decided to join, albeit reluctantly. It was settled. The Pilgrims would rest tonight. At dawn, they would march for Worms.

As you approached the city, you could see fires in the distance. Some homesteads were trashed up ahead, and so you broke into a faster pace, almost a jog. Gaucher followed you. The two of you came to a ridge that led to the city. There was straight up fighting in the streets, as men and women, even children, were dragged out of their homes of being suspected of Jewry. You had no idea what to do. That was when the armored tank from the rear guard approached. He said absolutely nothing and simply began to walk into the town. Brothers Thomas, Jacob, and Friedrich all had dissenting views on what should be done, and a deadlock was formed. It appeared your presence in their triangle of leadership would be the deciding vote. What will you say?

[X] Support Brother Thomas. He suggests trying to separate the Pilgrims from their victims with light force, as words will not solve the issue now that it has advanced this far. Defending those from violence, the weak, is a virtue, and will be respected and rewarded by the Lord.

[X] Support Brother Jacob. Jacob suggests a non-violent approach, as the Pilgrims are Christians and we should not bring harm to our brothers. He wants to use words with our fellow Pilgrims to stop the violence.

[X] Support Brother Friedrich. Freidrich believes it is wrong to fight our brother Christians as well, and believes that we should join their ranks. Our numbers would swell, we'd have no issues with our fellow brothers, and there is sure to be money or materials that is to be confiscated from the heathens.

[X] Wild Card. Follow the armored man into the city...

The non-violent way probably won't work, since that was sort of what the bishop in our history tried. And it would be extremely dangerous to try to forcibly intervene, especially when our men might not fully agree with us.

Wild card seems the most likely to be useful. Might as well take it as a sign from God or something.

-[X] Remind the looters that it's not the Jew that bars our way to the Holy Land, and that it is the risk of accidentally killing or harming fellow Christians will damn them. Better to leave Jew hunting to the people that are supposed to do it, who the church will absolve the bloody hands of.

I'm pretty sure the 2 others option have been tried in history and have failed so yeah...

Let's just hop he isn't going to start killing

Not particularly looking forward to following the armored death giant into a riotous massacre.

Someone read a wikipedia article or two.

I'm glad that's the impression you got. I'm very rusty with my writing, and doing it in a kind of CYA style here is both interesting but difficult. I hope the picture I'm painting for you all is entertaining and accurate.

Tall, dark, and silent type with the descriptor the armored tank can't be much else than an enforcer. He doesn't even speak when spoken to. Anything he does will likely be more violent than we could ever be by joining in on the looting.

I mean, you don't know that. I will say this. I have preplanned the results for the options, in fact I have all of the choice chain results preplanned for Worms. The Armored Man is a potential companion of your personal entourage, as are all three of the Brothers of the Order of Saint John. And there are potentially two more hidden companions you can recruit if the right combination of choices are made. They are not obvious and one of them requires maybe a write-in.

Yeah, though there was depressingly little on the exact nature of what happens.

I do just want to mention that the Jewish are really, really hated by pretty much everyone in Europe. Best picture I know of that shows how much the Jews were hated is from the 1400s, but it probably gives a pretty clear picture of what attitude the people attacking the Jews are going to have.

Picture is about the idea that Jews used to go kidnap Christain children to make matzoh for Passover.
Christians were really paranoid about Jews during this time. If we are intervening, we have to be careful, since the hate towards Jews is crazy strong, and can easily burn us.

I'll give you guys until tomorrow early afternoon to figure out what you want to do and keep voting open. As of right now, Brother Jacob's plan is winning out.
