It's LIke XCOM, But With More Sparkles -- Henshin Heroes & Heroines HQ Quest!

[X] OPERATION DYNAMITE – If things go south, you'll have everyone fall back to inside the base. When Leon follows (which he likely will) you'll trigger the elevator's self-destruct and drop the hammer on him.

Not gonna lie, this was a hard one. Kind of wish we could chip Fenrir just in case but I don't want that to be the only backup plan. I like Operation Road Runner but I don't want to keep a hero off the field, considering how nasty this fight's probably going to be.

[X] OPERATION DYNAMITE – If things go south, you'll have everyone fall back to inside the base. When Leon follows (which he likely will) you'll trigger the elevator's self-destruct and drop the hammer on him.

Once home, I'll try to re-analize each Hero, so to design a strategy.
But first, a mechanical question:
@PurpleProse If an Hero with TOUGH protect a Hero, he redirect the Damage to him but take one less.
I assume we can't SUCCESS to protect with two Heroes and split the Damage, right?

[ ] OPERATION ROAD RUNNER – If Leon wants Yukimura that badly, he's going to have to chase him down. You'll keep one of the more mobile Heroes in reserve and, if things go south, lead Leon away from the Base while the others regroup.
While I'm inclined to letting Yukimura choose, if he goes with this one, who counts as a mobile Hero? We need Touma for the fight since he has TOUGH, and I'm not sure who else is a possibility.
If we win that is fine, we can likely get info on their base from our prisoner and we have just made a super prison to hold him while we interrogate him.
I don't remember making a super prison? We had the option, but the thread chose the stasis pods instead, and we haven't had enough time to BUILD them anyway so the prison probably wouldn't have been ready on time either.

We had a place where we held that superhuman alien commander for interrogation remember? Before we handed him over to our alien allies.

[X] Ask Yukimura for his opinion. It's his keister on the line after all.

Presumably it would be one of our heroes with Swift (Shineon, Fenrir), Gunleon+Landcrasher, or Yukihime with Flight. Of those, the only one I'd really consider using as the reserve is Yukihime, since we'll probably need our tanks this fight and b/c I expect flight would be the most effective method of running. Of course, Leon might just acknowledge that he can't fly and go trash the base instead if that happens, and if we do keep Yukihime on reserve we'd miss out on both one of our 2-damage heroes and on her stun ability. Actually... @PurpleProse I'm assuming that Shineon and the Landcrasher would both be capable of carrying Fenrir away; Since Yukihime has Weak, would she actually be capable of carrying him or would we have to use one of the other two?

Given the risks with Roadrunner, I'm gonna have to go with Dynamite. Here's hoping we won't have to use it.
[X] OPERATION DYNAMITE – If things go south, you'll have everyone fall back to inside the base. When Leon follows (which he likely will) you'll trigger the elevator's self-destruct and drop the hammer on him.

First of all: @PurpleProse , you changed a bit right? I don't recall the section about the Attack.
So, let's talk later about our hero and a bit more about the Arena and Leon.
It's safe to assume that Leon won't have just nine boxes. So, we have to drop everything on him. BUT
I think is safe to assume that he shouldn't do stress damage, just physical one. A lot of it, but no stress.
So, it's a roof. Not a lot of place where hide. Jin and Subaru will have some trouble.
Now, the heroes:
Subaru: Fighter (Weapon) and Gear Reliant are the only bonus/malus to apply here. I don't think Leon has something to steal.
So, Subaru is pretty useless in a direct fight. But we can have her Attack for some damage, support our main fighter or rescue if things goes bad.
Shineon: One of our best fighter. It has TOUGHT and STRONG. Hit for 2, reduce by one. I think we want to keep fight with it. Its special ability aren't useful in this case, if I can be honest.
Touma: As Shineon, hit for 2, take one less, with Landcrasher takes two less. I'm not sure about switching to transformation, honestly: maybe if we need to push some extra damage, we can try to use the Burning mode.
Fenrir: He's a glasscannon, I think we can let him loose for three turn if we protect him with Touma or Shineon. Need someone to protect him since he'll be Leon's favourite target.
Maybe he'll give us some extra inshight on our enemy (Know Biology, ex X-mera).
Kekkai: Attack from the far, she does 2 damage from afar and, since I assume Leon doesn't use Stress damage, we can use some barriers on our glass cannon. In case things go bad, we can use her to Support.
Jin: I don't want to be harsh, but he's like Subaru in this case: he won't inflict a lot of damage. So, Support or some extra damage.
Nanoka: Leon will hit hard. Make him lose one action can work good. We lost one turn of damage, but I'll assume it will be a lot more worth than 2 damage.
@PurpleProse If Nanoka use her special ability and score a 10+, would BLAST(ICE) activate it's effect?
Sorry if it's bad written, but I don't feel very well. Someone want to add something?

[X] OPERATION DYNAMITE – If things go south, you'll have everyone fall back to inside the base. When Leon follows (which he likely will) you'll trigger the elevator's self-destruct and drop the hammer on him.

@Abyssien No, the bonus from using BLAST (ICE) only procs when she is using her standard attack. Also, this situation is classified as an Incident, hence it get the Alert Signal (I assume that's what you're referring too?)

Sorry if it's bad written, but I don't feel very well. Someone want to add something?
This is pretty good. I just want to speculate a bit on Leon's traits. He probably has Fighter (Unarmed), MIGHTY, SWIFT, CLAWED, & SENSE (SMELL) . He might also have Agile & TOUGH. Possible negative traits include Aggressive, Scary, and Destructive. If he has TOUGH, Subaru and Jin are going to be stuck SUPPORTing the other Heroes. SWIFT and Agile might give him +1 or +2 on his attack rolls, making it harder for our Heroes to avoid him, or they might make it harder for our Heroes to land a hit. While I'd like to keep Gunleon in his TOUGH form, we might need to switch to Burning Mode just to do enough damage. Yukihime's chains should be pretty useful IF they can land.

Given that our current intel on Leon is "muscular, seemingly invulnerable lion-man", I'd assume he almost certainly has some variant on TOUGH & MIGHTY; I wouldn't expect him to have an agility/speed bonus, though; It's possible, but it didn't come up in our (admittedly sparse) info on him, and doesn't seem to fit his apparent big, tough brawler character type. 2 things worth noting on damage, if he does have a TOUGH-style damage reduction: We do have the Alien dagger, so either Subaru or Jin can be dealing 2 damage in melee, and Burning Gunleon would probably be worse than normal Gunleon in this case. BLAST (Fire) does the same damage as Gunleon's normal attack, but with a relative -2 on the hit roll (Gunleon normally gets +1 from GUNSLINGER and +1 from Shooter (Firearms), neither of which apply to BLAST). And, if Leon does have a TOUGH-equivalent the damage from both AURA and a pure success on BLAST(Fire) would be reduced by 1 to deal 0 damage.

@Abyssien Yes, I added those in.

Also, strictly speaking, Villains don't have Traits and loadouts like the Heroes do. This is mostly because Villains don't make rolls; only Heroes do.

I'll post the next update sometime tomorrow.

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates since the last post. It's been kind of a rough week thus far in as far as creative stuff goes, so you'll forgive me if things are slow in the quest right now. I'll try to get the next post up as soon as I can, though. Promise.

Chapter 1: Turn 13 Combat 1
You don't know how strong this guy is, but you're betting that getting multiple tons of steel and concrete dropped on his head at sufficient velocity will take the wind right out of his sails.

You quickly explain the plan to your assembled Heroes. None of them are particularly happy with the idea, but it's a better alternative to letting Leon get a hold of and abscond with Yukimura. You don't like it either; if the contingency has to be used, then it'll do some pretty hefty damage to Sector II.

Then again, damaging one Sector is better than letting Leon run roughshod over the entire base.

You send the Heroes on their way, though you do hold Yukimura back a for a moment. He seems rather subdued, though you can't really blame him for that. "I'm sorry about this, Yukimura-san. Really."

He nods quietly. "Had to do it. Don't blame you."

You don't feel like disagreeing with him right now, so you nod and pat him on the shoulder. "Good luck out there."

He gives you a quick thumbs up, then walks briskly out of the briefing room. You exhale and look over to Odessa. "Is the Strike Team ready?"

"What little we have, yeah," Odessa replies. Her arms are crossed and her tail is bristled. "I don't like this, ma'am. Not one bit."

"You and me both. Have the Strike Team on recovery detail. If any of the Heroes go down, pull them out immediately and get them underground ASAP."

Odessa nods and salutes as you head to Central Command.

* * *
Drones have already been deployed as the Heroes walk onto the top floor of the car park. There are several parked cars dotted around the area, most of which are civilian-owned. Leon has taken a seat on the hood of one of the cars, spread out and man-spreading like he's expecting photographers to snap pics.

Your Heroes have set up, forming a loose semi-circle around him. The Strike Team has taken covered positions behind and down the ramp, ready to assist when needed. However, Leon's attention seems to be entirely focused on Yukimura.

"Well, well, well." He says, leaning forward and leering at Yukimura. "If it ain't the prodigal son himself. How're you doing Orthrus?"

"Not my name," Yukimura replies coolly.

"Sure it is." Leon grins, and you can see the sharpness of his teeth. "I mean, I get it. You got off on a bad foot with the nerds at the lab. I get that. Hell, I respect that; they need to be put in their proper place from time to time. But this ain't where you're supposed to be. You're one of us. A true monster. A fucking child of Echidna herself. We're your family. Not this bunch of… fucking farm animals who want to just use you."

Yukimura growls at that as Hikaru steps forward a little. "Hey! Don't act like you know anything about-"

"Did I fucking address you, piglet?" Leon growls and shoots a glare at Hikaru, causing him to step back on instinct. "The real beasts are talking here. Honestly Orthrus, how can you stand being around these jokers? It's gotta be like walking around a steak house on an empty stomach. It'd drive me up the fucking wall."

"Not sure I like the comparison," Subaru mutters over comms.

"Pointless," Yukimura says as he pulls off his coat and tosses it aside. "Tired of talking."

"Ooh, someone's got big balls." Leon reaches up and pulls off his sunglasses, revealing amber eyes with large, round pupils. "Come on then. Let's see if whether you're a wolf or a fucking sheepdog."

"Game faces," Yukimura snarls as the others take up their Henshin poses.

"Phantom Theif, Pleiades. Beneath this starry sky, I'll be taking back the future you've stolen!"

"Hopes, dreams, wishes, I'll save them all! Senshi of Hope, Shineon!"

"The name's Gunleon, and you're in my sights."

"AWOOOOOO!"

"Psychic Heroine, Kekkai-chan! En garde!"

"Obakemaru, going forth."

"Bloom, oh flowers of ice! Magical Snow, Yukihime!"

Leon laughs and claps. "Now we're talking. This is gonna be so much fucking fun!" He slides up to his feet and shucks his jacket, revealing his heavily muscled chest. He rolls his shoulders slowly, then twists his neck from side to side which elicits a loud popping noise. His muscles clench as his veins visibly engorge, yellow light running through them like a glowing spiderweb.

"I am Leo Nemeanos, the Nemean Lion," he shouts, "and I am going to rip you fuckers APART!"

He lets out an unnatural roar as he hunches forward. Waves of heat rush off of his body as he begins to swell. His muscles bulge outwards like grotesque balloons as his body hair thickens and spreads. His hands clench and curl as his fingernails lengthen into talons. His lips pull back in an animalistic snarl, his canines growing longer and whiskers sprouting from his cheeks. There's a loud tearing noise as his feet rip free from his ratty sneakers, toenails digging in and tearing shallow grooves into the concrete.

"Oh shit," you hear Kekkai-chan whisper over comms. "He's huge."

"Keep it together," Yukihime says as she levels her staff. "We can take him if we work together."

"Good to know one of us is confident," Obakemaru says, though you can hear an undercurrent of nervousness in his voice.

Leon soon completes his transformation, having gained almost five feet in height and several hundred pounds of muscle. He grins wickedly down at the assembled heroes and demonstratively pops his knuckles, before letting out a bellowing, leonine roar of challenge.

Loooove the details on Chimera we're getting here. I wonder if Echidna is the head scientist experimenting on people and making the Spartoi, or the patient zero from which they originate?

Also, is it just me, or is this-
Honestly Orthrus, how can you stand being around these jokers? It's gotta be like walking around a steak house on an empty stomach.
-Leon implying that the reason Yukimura's constantly hungry is because his transformation is meant to be powered by eating people? That's hardcore. I like Yukimura even more now that I know he's been ignoring that urge this whole time.

(I'll think about tactics for fighting after I sleep on it, I just wanted to gush about the story bits first)

The Nemean Lion? You know, in hindsight, I probably should've seen this coming. I mean, we've got the descriptions of the monsters:
While the actual brains behind the organization remains hidden, their major agents have been identified, though only in what can best be described as their 'war forms.' These include a muscular, seemingly invulnerable lion-man, a many-headed and venomous dragon-man and an enormous three-headed dog.
(Nemean Lion, Hydra and Cerberus respectively), and they use a Greek letter in their name, for crying out loud!

And Fenrir used to be codenamed Orthrus? Now I'm wondering if he escaped before those scientists added a second head to the deal...
...and I just had a chilling thought about χ-mera hunting down his sister to use hers...

Still, at least we got one bit of information out of him - the name of his boss, Echidna.

Now, fight-wise, I don't feel like pulling out any specials until we get a read on this guy, but in actual fact, now that I know that Leon's based off of the Nemean Lion, I actually feel a bit better. If that monster can be beaten, so can this; but I think we need to employ more intricate tactics.

First turn, however, let's see what he's made of.

SHINEON
[X] ATTACK (Strategically: Give +1 Bonus to next or other's current roll)
-[X] Villain

As a hero who's both TOUGH and MIGHTY, Shineon should obviously take point. If she can keep his attention, we might be the best off.

FENRIR
[X] ATTACK (Aggressively: +1 Damage to target)

Fenrir's got the "possibly ignore Damage Reduction" claws for this; let's see how they do.

PLEIADES
[X] HELP
-[X] Fenrir

Let's face it, against a bare-handed melee fighter, Subaru's a little out of her element in this case. Let's give Fenrir a little advantage.

GUNLEON
[X] ATTACK (Aggressively)
-[X] Villain

If this guy's as tough and strong as we think he is, we need to keep Gunleon's defenses up. Having him take second point will hopefully keep the rest safe.

KEKKAI-CHAN
[X] ATTACK (Defensively: -1 Damage from retaliation)
-[X] Villain

I'll save Kekkai-chan's barriers until we know who Leo's going to be focusing on, or until we break out a combination. For now, let's just harass him, hopefully from range.

OBAKEMARU
[X] ATTACK (Strategically: Give +1 Bonus to next or other's current roll)
-[X] Villain

I'm assuming that Obakemaru's the one holding the Alien Dagger that can do extra damage (@PurpleProse, let me know if he isn't); hopefully that should get through. It's a real shame that his Assassination Arts Passive won't apply since there's only one target that everyone's focusing on.

YUKIHIME
[X] ATTACK (Aggressively: +1 Damage to target)
-[X] Villain

Long-range ice shard throwing for Yukihime; don't want to waste her special just yet. Hopefully from the air too; @PurpleProse, would a write-in action be necessary for her to take flight and start launching ice at the same time?

So, x-mera finally showed their faces. If this asshole is supposed to be the Nemean Lion, he has some sort of invulnerability for certain. First objective, figure out how that invulnerability works, and how to bypass it.

Also, if Yukimura really was designed to eat people, I officially declare him to be even more of a badass then previously thought.

HMMMM.

The Nemean Lion was killed by strangulation, so assuming that X-Mera are excessively on the nose in their creations (they seem like the type) I'm hoping that unarmed attacks like Shineon's and Fenrir's will be reduced less.

SHINEON
[X] ATTACK (Strategically: Give +1 Bonus to next or other's current roll)

FENRIR
[X] ATTACK (Aggressively: +1 Damage to target)

GUNLEON
[X] SPECIAL

I'm actually tempted by Burning Mode in his case, but the first round with Nanoka attacking should give us an idea of how elemental attacks will go against him.

KEKKAI-CHAN
[X] SPECIAL
-[X] Defensive Barrier on Fenrir

If I had to guess who's going to get hit, I would guess the person he's here for and who is the only person he didn't totally dismiss.

OBAKEMARU
[X] ATTACK (Strategically: Give +1 Bonus to next or other's current roll)
-[X] Villain

YUKIHIME
[X] ATTACK (Aggressively: +1 Damage to target)
-[X] Villain

This is the one I really want to see. If he's mostly-immune to weapons, how does he handle getting blasted with magic?
