The Guardian Units of Nations (GUN) is the world's premier force for preemptively addressing threats before they can harm the citizens of the United Federation, as well as the world at large. Reaching their highest prominence fifty years ago, the lack of crises in the world has dulled their ability to respond to serious threats.

In one timeline, GUN would barely be capable of managing the threats posed by a chain of crises caused by the arrival of one Ivo Robotik onto the surface of the planet, and faded into irrelevance as its forces were repeatedly depleted by world-threatening crises. Without the repeated assistance of visitors from a foreign world, they would fail to achieve victory against any of these disasters on their own.

In this timeline, under your governance, they may have the opportunity needed to stay a militarily relevant force in the world.
OMAKE: Gemstone Investigation
Gemstone investigation.

This was her chance! After she completed her training and became a fully fledged member of G.U.N, Topaz had been waiting for her chance to truly make a name for herself.

Her lack of experience in the field had resulted in her mostly shadowing more veteran members on some of their jobs, but that same lack of experience meant that she wasn't shadowing them on the field, but rather, she followed them as they worked on reports and other such paperwork.

She understood the importance of record keeping, but most of those veterans preferred to make their reports themselves, so most of the time she just sat there watching and occasionally bringing them coffee or tea.

She didn't endure months of physical training to become an intern damnit!

Though the abs she got from said training were pretty sweet, she wouldn't complain about that part of it.

But now, with the sudden appearance of these animals all over Station Square and that strange signal, she and many others were finally being assigned to their own personal investigations!

While some got assigned to find more information about the signal or capturing the unusual animals, she and some others got assigned to investigate the sudden robberies that were taking place, and due to so many events happening at once resulting in personnel being spread thin, she gets to investigate a whole block of stores all on her own!

No one breathing on her neck, no chance of anyone taking the credit, she was free to investigate as she saw fit, this was her chance to show everyone that what she was worth, goodbye coffee duty, hello field work!

As she arrived at the first store, one that specializes in diamond encrusted jewelry, she took a deep breath to calm her nerves, adjusted her gloves to make sure she didn't contaminate the scene with her prints, checked to make sure she had her notebook and pencil on her pockets, and walked inside.

The interior was pretty standard, lots of glass cases at the front and sides to show potential customers the jewelry on sale, though of course, right now all were broken into, having been emptied out of most of their contents.

And that was the first mystery she wanted to solve, why only some jewelry? If they could steal from so many stores with no one noticing, why not take everything? The only thing in common the stolen goods had was that they either had jewels encrusted, or were jewels.

As she got closer to the display, she grabbed one of the pieces that wasn't stolen, a single golden ring with a diamond on it, and while she wasn't exactly an expert on Jewels, it seemed to be quite valuable, "so why didn't they steal you?" She muttered to herself as she turned the ring back and forth in her hand, examining from every angle.

"Hmmm… can't really see why… hold on, what's this?" She suddenly noticed something strange, the diamond had a scratch on it, "that's strange, I thought diamonds were unbreakable, why is this one scratched?" As she asked this, she had a thought, what about the other things that weren't stolen?

She hurriedly picked up more jewelry, checking to see if her theory was right.

Scratched, scratched, scratched, outright cracked, scratched.

They all had some damage to them "it's as though the thief was… checking to see if they were real!" even as she started writing on her notebook to make sure she didn't forget to have some of the jewels sent to the labs, she was pretty sure she knew what the results would be, counterfeits, fake diamonds being sold as though they were real, and the thief made sure they only took the authentic ones.

As she finished writing she turned her attention to the calling card, pulling out a copy of the ones found on the other crime scenes to compare, "hmmm, no difference that I can see, no hair or prints either, guess I won't get anything from this"

She did a sweep of the rest of the store, but couldn't find anything else, even if this wasn't the case solving clue she wanted, she still found something, plus there were still the other stores to check through.

And as she prepared to do just that, she never noticed she was being watched from a shadowed spot in the rafters, the soft sound of wings beating the only sign of the thief's exit.

AN: and here's an omake about the investigations into the robberies.

Also diamonds aren't unbreakable, but Topaz doesn't know that.

OMAKE: A Brief Investigation
A Brief Investigation

If Jay was being honest with herself, this was definitely one of the stranger things she'd ever been sent to investigate.

The whole thing with random animals popping out of nowhere, as well as the much more concerning mysterious robots, was something pretty much all of GUN was aware of by this point. But for the most part, it was mostly agents picking up the critters and placing them somewhere where they wouldn't get themselves hurt.

There were too many unknowns about the strange robots, and at the moment the higher-ups weren't eager to send anyone to try and capture them. Not because they didn't think they were a possible issue, but because they wanted to have some equipment, or even robots of their own, in case things got violent.

However, the descriptions she was getting about this new animal were…well, unique.

Every officer that had attempted to capture the animal, as well as the S-team, had reported more or less the same thing. Humanoid (notable for difference in build from the other animals), about 100 cm (bigger than all the previous animals), white gloves, white-striped red shoes with gold buckles, blue fur, and super speed. The last one in particular was a concern for threat assessment reasons, what with the fact that the blue hedgehog could apparently break the sound barrier.

She was going to bold and underline that fact when she sent in her report, as well as emphasize diplomacy instead of capture. They could not have anyone pissing off someone who can do that at will.

And yes, she used someone on purpose.

Everyone who'd been part of the incident may have referred to the…creature? Lifeform? Alien? Whatever the hedgehog was, as an "it" or "just" as an animal. But, it felt like there were too many factors pointing towards this being a person.

The presence of clothes on the hedgehog could indicate someone had dressed them, yes. But the playful attitude the hedgehog had exhibited towards the S-team was something she wouldn't be surprised to find in a human teenager with that kind of speed. Factor in the human-like body language, plus the fact that some witnesses reported seeing them move their mouth like they were talking (though unfortunately the witnesses could not verify actual speech since they had been inside moving vehicles and the hedgehog had, supposedly, been quietly talking to themselves outside of said vehicles), and there was a better than even chance that this was a sapient being.

Now, Jay wasn't new to capturing people. It wasn't her specialty, but it was certainly something she'd been personally involved with a couple times.

However, she did have the base amount of empathy to realize that, hey, random people bigger than you trying to get their hands on you could be pretty friggin' scary. Sure, with the hedgehog's speed she doubted that kind of fear was something that got realized often, but it was the principle of the thing y'know?

Also, well, the hedgehog hadn't actually done anything wrong. Yeah they almost caused a traffic accident, and yes they also lightly injured some officers, but given the circumstances the blame didn't exactly lie at their feet. Because of that, she didn't really see any reason to immediately jump to the more forceful options.

Whatever agents they send should be the more diplomatic kind. The types who offer to buy their target a meal or two as long as said target is willing to sit down, chill for a bit, and talk. Information is something they really need here, and the hedgehog is probably going to be willing to share more if they don't try to shove them in a burlap sack.

Carrot over stick and all that.

Hopefully, director Max will see things her way. She'd rather not make an enemy out of a speedster.

That type of thing never goes well in comics, and it certainly won't in real life.

AN: The first Omake I'm making for this quest, and it probably won't be the last.
Here's hoping that we can do things a bit more politely than just trying to grab Sonic lol.

OMAKE: Abraham Towers
Interlude: Abraham Towers

Abraham closes his eyes, then takes a deep breath as he processes the video he was just sent.

In…and out.

"Hello Denizens of this Fair City! My name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik…"

In…and out.

"Dr. Ivo Robotnik…"

In…

"Robotnik…"

SNAP!

And out.

Ink stains his right glove. Without opening his eyes, he tosses the glove in the nearby wastebasket along with the broken pen.

He pulls out a replacement from a desk drawer, re-gloving his hand as he opens his eyes.

All he can feel, in this very moment, is hate.

Because of course. Of course the one damn Robotnik GUN ever lost track of is the one who went on to become a national threat!

The higher-ups of the organization must have known what a threat any relative of Gerald's would be with the kind of intellect Ivo no doubt has at his disposal. Hell, there would have been signs of Ivo building up to whatever the hell led to him leaving to another world! A suspicious amount of supplies being delivered to him, energy spikes, anything!

Abraham still remembers finding out that information when he'd finally been promoted to the upper echelons of the organization. Still remembers the fear and fury he felt when it was revealed that a grandchild with Gerald's intellect had vanished without a trace.

The only silver lining of the scenario is that apparently Sonic and his friends have repeatedly foiled the madman's attempts at dominating their world (what, was that desire genetic or something?!). Something that he's very willing to believe given the power he saw the hedgehog bring to bear.

Regardless, the one advantage they have is that Ivo is somewhat unestablished here. But that isn't going to be the case for long, especially since they don't know how long he's been sending drones to scout out the planet.

He needs to be dealt with now. They cannot give him any time to truly secure himself. If they act quickly they can keep him from creating new monstrosities like the Artificial Chaos Series…or...or...

Abraham fast forwards the video, pausing once again at Sonic's first clear appearance.

He won't lie, when he first saw Sonic he'd almost thought the thing Gerald and that monster made had clawed it's way back from hell. But, no, the color was wrong and it was actively opposing Gerald's grandson. Additionally, he doubts that the creature would have bothered with saving agent Cheung.

…However, there was some merit to Captain Westwood's suspicions regarding Sonic. Though not in the way the Captain thought. If Ivo was on the same level as his grandfather, and if he had help just like that maniac, it wouldn't be impossible for him to create an organic lifeform capable of the feats Sonic had demonstrated.

They would need to be wary of Sonic going forward. At least until the hedgehog had solidly managed to prove himself as with them instead of against them. Nonetheless, Abraham wouldn't turn down such powerful help.

He was well aware that when fighting would-be despots like Ivo, you should use every weapon at your disposal.

AN: I hope I did a good job writing Towers! I tried to accurately depict his hate, fear, and the fanatical drive to end evil that he's been stated to have.

Edit: Altered for quest Canon-Compliance reasons.

OMAKE: Big City Rabbit
At the moment, he had apparently been fortunate enough to find the youngest member of his group, a child who had been kidnapped by Dr. Robotnik prior to their transport to our world. While they had managed to secure lodgings and assistance of civilians in Station Square, their results were currently lacking.

Big City Rabbit

Cream had not been having a good day, first, she had to cancel the tea party she was gonna have with her mom and Amy because she didn't notice they had run out of cookies, and everyone knows you can't have a tea party without cookies!

Then she forgot her book at home and had to go get it, making her late to school! And then at school, Sully refused to exchange his ice cream flavored candy for her chocolate/vanilla candy bar! Instead he exchanged it with Mimi for a single jawbreaker! In what world is a jawbreaker better than a whole candy bar!?

Oh and she got kidnapped by Eggman again.

Honestly, considering how often he kidnaped people, most schools had a drill in place, run, hide and wait for rescue!

Plus another one in case you get captured, be quiet and try and act as boring as possible, that way he will ignore you and focus on something more interesting! He has a low attention span if things don't entertain him.

Of course it didn't take long for Mr Sonic and his friends to come rescue her and everyone else he might have taken.

Then there was a bright flash of light, and then....

'HONK! HONK!"

'SKRRRT!!'

Cream held her ears against her head, feeling a headache develop, she usually had some moments to get used to this level of noise, but whatever that light was had dropped her in an alley near a really busy street, meaning she was hit by the wave of noise all at once.

The disadvantage of having ears big enough to fly is that they were also more sensitive to noise.

'Whrrrrh'

Cream quickly bolted behind a trashcan (ew) to avoid these strange Badniks, they didn't look like the ones Eggman used, but it wouldn't be the first time he released some new model.

Usually she would attack it to try and free the poor animal trapped inside, but she remembers what Amy said about being alone in unknown territory, don't make yourself known until you have a place to hunker down or an escape plan.

Hence, her hiding instead of attacking it, as she waited for the soft sound it made to sound farther, she tries to think about what G.U.N meant, usually Eggman plastered his face or logo on his badniks, so whatever G.U.N was must be somehow related to either eggs or amusement parks, but she couldn't figure it out for the life of her.

When she heard the coast was clear, she ran away from the noises, hoping that the less noisy areas would have less badniks flying about and someplace to hunker down in.

It took her a few hours of travel to find a residential area, and being pretty tired by this point, decided to see if she could find a hiding spot in one of the houses.

"Hmmm.... Closed, the lights are on, closed, that's a very big angry looking dog!" she thought as she came upon a yard with a dog laying in it, said dog's nose started twitching as it caught her scent and did what most dogs do when confronted with something new.

'Bark! Bark!! Bark!!'

Cream quickly bolted the moment she noticed some of the windows of the nearby houses opening or lighting up.

"Oh no, oh no!" She muttered as she ran, not willing to fly and potentially alert one of those badniks if they saw her.

Then as she started to hear people starting to complain and ask questions, she saw a house with no lights on and an open window.

With a flap of her ears to boost herself she jumped straight into the room, and started to frantically look around for a hiding spot in the dark "ok let's see, under that desk? No I would be visible, in the closet!? No that's where the monsters hide! C'mon there has to be somewhere... Aha!" She suddenly caught sight of a small pile of stuffed animals in a corner of the room and dived into them, quickly rearranging them to be on top of herself, and waited until the noises outside stopped.

.
.
.

When everything was calm she poked her head out of her fluffy hiding spot, and seeing that the houses she could see through the window were dark once more, she let out a breath of relief.

"Hmmm, excuse me, why are you in my room?"

Cream stiffened and looked to the side of the room she hadn't checked in her haste.

There was a small bed, and on that bed was One of the inhabitants of this place, looking at her in confusion.

For a while they both simply stared at each other.

"I'm not here" said Cream as she once more buried herself in stuffed animals and went to sleep.

After a while night of searching and avoiding the soldiers and machines trying to catch him, Sonic wasn't expecting Cream to suddenly pop her head out of a window and wave him over, he also wasn't expecting her to be having a tea party with a girl in a wheelchair.

"Hello Mr Sonic" said Cream said, holding a cup of tea with her pinky extended, then she gestured towards the girl who waved politely while holding a cookie in her other hand "this is Helen, and she has agreed to let us stay with her for the time being"

OMAKE: Underground Rose New
Underground Rose

It wasn't easy growing up in a world with Eggman in it, though Amy could admit that if it weren't for the mad scientist she wouldn't have ever met Sonic, Cream and the rest of her friends.

And she could admit Eggman made pretty good theme parks, shame they usually came with a million traps and badniks, plus the price for the tickets was downright insane! The popcorn tasted like petrol, but Amy wasn't that surprised about that, considering that some of his traps fired said popcorn as ammunition.

She still had a kernel shaped scar on her back, luckily her quills grew over it, and it made for a funny story at parties.

But humor couldn't hide a fact Amy knew from the moment she decided to join Sonic in his adventures.

She wasn't made for this.

It was a bitter realization she had when she saw that Sonic wasn't the only one with special abilities, everyone of her fellow heroes had something that made them special.

Sonic has his speed, Tails had his tails and his genius intellect, Knuckles was strong enough to break metal with his bare fist, Tangle had her tail, heck even Cream could fly!

She didn't have anything like that, but while at the time her motivation had been simply to stay near Sonic, It had been enough to get her started on her own path.

She didn't have Sonic's speed? She would simply have to train her legs to keep up!

She didn't have super strength like Knuckles? She would hit the gym as hard as possible and strengthen her arms and core!

She couldn't fly like Cream? She learned how to swing her hammer hard enough to launch herself!

She wasn't as smart as Tails? She would just study strategy and help keep her friends safe!

She didn't have Tangle's ever stretching tail?... Well ok she hasn't come up with anything for that, but four out of five wasn't bad.

But it was at strategy where she found she excelled, since she couldn't just storm Eggman's bases singlehandedly like most of her friends could, she would instead observe and make plans, as a matter of fact it was her that planned the rescue mission for Cream!

Sonic and Knuckles would perform an attack from the front, distracting most of the Badniks, Tails would do flyovers on the Tornado alternating between attacking and scanning the area for signs of the capsules or wherever Eggman was keeping his hostages this times, while she would be in the Tornado as well, both keeping an eye on things and using her Piko Piko Hammer to smack away Eggman's AA missiles and any flying badniks that evaded the Tornado's guns.

It had been going well until Sonic had rushed ahead and broke into the main building, then a strange light had come and next thing she knows she's falling face first into the ground in some cage.

That bear had not been happy, sadly for it, neither had Amy.

After bending the bars enough to escape the cage, she left the unconscious bear behind (while she was all for freeing them, she knew better than to unleash a wild bear in a populated area) and hid in a bush in another enclosure to survey her new surroundings, and upon not seeing anything familiar and catching sight of people that looked like the same species as Eggman, she defaulted to the piece of advice she had given Cream so long ago.

Find a place to hunker down or make an escape plan.

The escape plan was easy, she could see many buildings that had ACs and fire escape stairs that she could use to quickly climb and go to higher ground if she needed to, plus a lot of alleyways to lose potential pursuers, dead ends could be a problem, but there was only so much she could plan without having the lay of the land.

As she contemplated the pros and cons of going to higher ground to find a better vantage point to see the area, she heard and saw some strange new models of Badniks come flying up over the buildings, more than likely to check whatever silent alarm she had tripped upon getting out of the cage.

"Tsk!" She quickly looked around for any alternative routes other than the alleys, the possibility of hitting a dead end while being chased by flying badniks would more than likely get her swarmed and captured.

Then she saw it, a manhole cover… Well, not the worst place she's had to go into in her life, she could already tell she was going to have to burn her dress after this.

Throwing a rock to strike one of the light poles, she quickly rushed over when the Badniks turned to investigate the noise, grabbing onto those holes the covers have to let out fumes, she heaved the cover over her head and jumped in, letting the cover land back on its spot.

'Splash!!'

Yeah, definitely going to burn this dress after this.

After she got out of the water (if that disgusting slop could be called that) she noted that the tunnel she was in was labeled, and made a mental note to return here later when she had a good way of rescuing that bear and returning it to nature, if Eggman didn't trap it in a Badnik first.

She was not looking forward to seeing what a Badnik with an animal of that size could do.

Well, no use thinking about that right now, she had been walking for a few hours now, doing her best to make a mental map of these sewers, noting how little signs of tech or Eggman's logo there were, guess Eggman hasn't gotten around to taking over the underground yet.

Good, that means there's a chance to make a base in this place, she just needs to find both an open enough place and start making some barricades, hopefully find Tails so that he can build some more defenses.

It didn't take her long to find an open area where a lot of the pipes seemed to converge, letting out their contents into a huge container at the bottom, a permanent whirlwind showing that the water was flowing down towards some other part of the system.

She wrinkled her nose at the smell, but considering there were only three entrances she could see, this was probably as good a base as any.

Leaning over the railing to take a better look at the place, she noticed something in the water below "is that… A frog?" she blinked at the sight of a rather large frog swimming against the current of the whirlwind, and doing a rather good job of it too.

She was preparing herself to jump into the water to save it when…

'SPLASH!'

She stumbled back, instinctively summoning her hammer and getting ready to swing as a figure launched out of the water and landed in front of her.

"Hello!"

Amy paused upon hearing the cheery greeting, before fully taking in the figure in front of her, the first thought to pop into her mind was.

That's a big cat

Indeed, standing in front of her, shaking himself free of the water was a large purple cat with a white underbelly and muzzle, standing even taller than Vector and Vanilla, in one hand he had the frog, the other was waving at her.

Shaking her head to get herself together, she unsummoned her hammer, putting on a smile "hello there! I'm Amy Rose, who might you be?" The cat smiled and said "I'm Big" then he gestured to the frog "and this is my friend Froggy!"

Amy found herself relaxing as she continued to talk to Big, at first she thought he might have been captured by Eggman, but it turns out he just happened to be fishing nearby when that bright light occurred, that fact alarmed Amy, if the light reached Big, then who else might have been caught? She needed to find the others fast, but she also needed to make sure they had a place to bring all the displaced into.

Taking a deep breath to center herself (and regretting it due to the smell) she turned to Big "well Big, don't you worry, me and my friends will get you back home, but first I need to reinforce this place" she extended her hand up towards him "will you help me? You don't have to fight or anything, just help me find some loose pieces of junk to make this place more defensible" Big shook her hand with a smile and pointed towards a corner "I've been throwing a lot of thrash over there, maybe it could help?" Amy turned towards the corner, seeing a pile of plastics and cardboard, most of it waterlogged.

"I would prefer some metal sheets, but I have worked with less! Let's do this Big!" And as she and her new friend started looking through the pile, she couldn't help but look up towards the ceiling.

"Hang on guys, I'll be there soon"

AN: Mah boy Big has appeared and Amy is out here taking free real estate away from the Ninja Turtles!

IDWs and frontiers version of Amy is my favorite, she's still a sweet girl but they actually made her a competent leader for the resistance/restoration, of course she eventually quit but not being good with paperwork doesn't take away from the fact she really stepped up during the whole Metal Virus event.
