The Guardian Units of Nations (GUN) is the world's premier force for preemptively addressing threats before they can harm the citizens of the United Federation, as well as the world at large. Reaching their highest prominence fifty years ago, the lack of crises in the world has dulled their ability to respond to serious threats.
In one timeline, GUN would barely be capable of managing the threats posed by a chain of crises caused by the arrival of one Ivo Robotik onto the surface of the planet, and faded into irrelevance as its forces were repeatedly depleted by world-threatening crises. Without the repeated assistance of visitors from a foreign world, they would fail to achieve victory against any of these disasters on their own.
In this timeline, under your governance, they may have the opportunity needed to stay a militarily relevant force in the world.
Setting
The world you are playing in is a hybrid of several games in the Sonic franchise, as well as elements of the anime adaptation Sonic X. As a general rule however, assume the following about the setting if not explicitly laid out in information posts.
- If a storyline occurs in multiple settings, assume that the account will best resemble that of the games. The games being strongly adapted are Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and Shadow the Hedgehog.
- While Sonic Heroes and Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood both have elements that feature GUN, their story events will not be adapted.
Character Creation
In its prime, GUN was heralded for its extensive intelligence network, which, when combined with its partnerships with the world's greatest mind and the bravest military force on the planet, gave it the capacity to handle any threat the world faced
But, as the greatest problems facing the planet were dealt with, the need to exist as an expensive force in being was non-existent. Over the tenures of the previous three directors, GUN's largescale facilities gradually were reduced as the need for grand operations around the world was diminished. Even its Prison Island Base, once the highest concentration of intelligence and military resources in the world, is mostly defunct, with only a token force employed in its surface-level facilities.
Your tenure began almost 5 years ago after a long and celebrated term from your predecessor. Due to concerns about the decline in GUN's capabilities, the oversight body chose to look for a director focused on growth. While the selection process was heated, ultimately the decision came down from above, as they were interested in your previous work as a…
[] Regional Field Commander near Station Square. While GUN had no shortage of strategic-level planners at the top of the organization, recruiting high-level regional commanders proved to be an excellent method of maintaining excellent operational readiness in the field. On the recommendation of your fellow field commanders, your name was put forward as the best candidate among them to take the role. (+1 Operations Die, +5 to Projects near Station Square, +???)
[] Head of Development in the Prison Island Complex. GUN's primary duties of Covert Intelligence and Military Deterrence have long been important priorities, it was considered equally important to continue in-depth investigations about unexplained phenomena that have the potential to wreak havoc on the world. This need, and its neglect in previous decades, led to your unconventional appointment to restore this capability. (+1 Research Die, +10 to Projects at Prison Island)
[] Intelligence Lead at Area 99. Vital to the success of GUN operations is its intelligence divisions, which search out potential threats in hopes of removing them before a wider-scale operation is needed. After identifying and detaining several terror threats, your name was placed on the shortlist for promotion. (+1 Intelligence Die, +5 to Intelligence Projects)

Thankfully, the period of peace that you oversaw was uninterrupted for the majority of the five years, with only minor incidents punctuating an era of rebuilding for GUN. The most defining of these incidents, which defined your early priorities for rebuilding, was…
[] Peacekeeping action after Central City protests. GUN is nominally an independent body that doesn't interact with the main politics of the United Federation. However, when corruption scandals caused massive bouts of civil unrest in the capital, it was your quick response that allowed for the situation to be de-escalated quickly before widespread violence followed, earning GUN the gratitude of the greater public. (+1 Operations Die, +10 Public Morale)
[] Response to National Pandemic. While the occasional flu is beneath the notice of GUN's Research Labs, a pandemic of massive scale and scope demanded action from all possible research facilities. The call for action within GUN allowed the quick mobilization of resources towards the restoration of a third of Prison Island's surface lab space, and a cure was quickly synthesized. (+1 Research Die, 1/3 Prison Island Surface Restored)
[] Broke up National Trafficking Gang. Due to the decline of GUN's intelligence services, occasionally large-scale criminal activity emerges in the extant blind spots that exist. After reports discovered the existence of a large, underground trafficking ring, you spearheaded an expansion in the coordination between local agencies and GUN intelligence agents, arresting the ringleaders before any had time to go underground. (+1 Intelligence Die, +5 Bonus against Agents)

You are nearing the fifth anniversary of your tenure. In 3 months, barring any new emerging crisis, you expect to keep your position and preserve the current trajectory of GUN.
