XVIII. Exhibition of the Air.

"Lucia, I- I couldn't..." Kristen tried to protest, but it was too late.

With Medea spotting him out in the crowd, she said "Hmm, well I suppose you'll do. Alright, partner". She then pulled Kristen up towards her "All you have to do is stay still, let me do the rest".

I could see Kristen smile and nod at Medea's words, even if he was shivering all over. I turned to Cidessa and asked "Medea being a trained professional, this should be completely safe, right?".

"Er, normally" Cid seemed hesitant, then added "She does have a habit of overestimating herself though".

"Good to hear..." I muttered.

Before Kristen had any time to prepare, Medea said quickly "Brace yourself" and blasted off on her rocket boots holding onto him. That is until she reached a high enough altitude, upon which she promptly let him go, with him set to fall all the way back down.

"Ah, but she would've stuck a parachute on him, right?" I asked Cid again. She stayed silent at that.

A carefree Medea went on to do several loop-the-loops around the plummeting Kristen, who from what I could make out by squinting looked like he'd faint before he even hit the ground. But as he was about to impact Medea zoomed in and caught him at the last minute, placing him back on his feet and holding up his hand to the mania of the crowd, all the while a colour-drained Kristen just looked like he wanted to collapse.

"Thank you, thank you! It was nothing really" Medea grinned.

I went up to Kristen and tried to shake him back to alertness. His eyes flickering in and out, he was finally able to say "Oh Lucia, t-that was... well to be honest I can't even say what that was...".

Cid then walked in front of Medea, took up a microphone and announced to the crowd "That was our Ace Pilot Medea Highwind, ladies and gentlemen. Now, you may know me as Airship Inventor Cidessa Troyanda, and we assure you that you've barely seen the beginning of what Quetzal Aviation has to offer in the field of Aeronautics!
Normally I would proclaim this Annual Exhibition open myself, but today I'm proud to announce that a most esteemed guest of ours shall have that honour".

Those words going to my head, I hastily headed over to the ribbon in front of their Aeronautics Workshop, only to almost stumble over a Moogle with a large hat carrying a giant (by Moogle standards) pair of scissors.

"Oof, I'm so sorry" her soft voice floated up to me, as she proceeded to cut the rope, lucky to not be trampled by the following influx of attendees. Only then I did recall just who this Moogle was, realising I'd nearly cut in front of Mayor Cranberry!

Not that forgetting the mayor was a rare mistake in Cranberry's case, with her not exactly possessing the most 'outstanding' of personalities. Didn't help that most people's attention tended to go either to the old City's Aristocracy, the New City's Corporations or the Cryst Pantocrator Church, so it was hard to remember Corpus Crystalli even had a Mayor.

"Ah, sorry for my negligence, Lady Mayor" Cid came over and took the words out of my mouth.

"No, it's okay really" Mayor Cranberry whimpered.

Kristen and I then entering Quetzal's showroom, the inventor's frazzled mood after that 'flight' thankfully soon went away, as he stared wide-eyed at not only the airships on display, but also the ones flying and even performing stunts up high beyond the see-through ceiling.

Most of the airships were naturally quite futuristic, with bright shimmering surfaces, rows upon rows of red velvet seats on the commercial flyers and turrets and cannons pulsing with magic Mist energy on the fighter jets and drones. However Quetzal had been kind enough to keep a few older, more rickety designs up on display too, and I watched with some amusement as Kristen seemed drawn to these most of all.

The one airship that stood out most of all was an almighty wreck at the far end of the Exhibition Hall. Closer inspection showed this was a 'Ghost Ship' that Quetzal had set up to test the mettle of any adventurers attending.

But for me, it was unfortunately hard to think about airships when I'd seen the Head of the Cagnazzo Lineage standing in the shadows just moments before. Keeping my eyes out for her, I was eventually able to spot Ataratheh again in conversation with Cidessa, though I was still too far away to make out what they were saying. Probably some 'you stick to your side, we'll stick to ours' deal, unless maybe she was suggesting some sort of competition...

I could also see a couple more Moogles attending, from their uniforms they looked to be members of the Valvalis Lineage. The Valvalis were mostly known as patrons of the arts, but their Head Zugspitze was famed for being the adventurous type, as well as someone who distrusted anything more advanced than a musket, so I could see him sending some of his own to investigate Quetzal.

"Why hello, Lady Artemisia" said a sudden voice behind me.

I slowly turned around to see the most disturbing person here, a man with slicked-back silver hair wearing the blue-and-black uniform of Oeilvert Surveillance.
"Now, you were just at Warmech Ordnance negotiating with Miss Mathers? Funny how an assault on the company occurred with your visit, but... no need to worry, it is not you we are here to investigate. No, we have come to observe Quetzal Aviation, as Miss Mathers believes Cidessa may possibly the one who hired Dicteria. As you have, if on hold for now, business with Warmech, we can trust you not to alert Quetzal about us, since you'd wish said business to go well, correct?".

He then strode off as swiftly as he'd emerged, soon meeting up with another woman in the Oeilvert uniform.

[ ] I should check up on Cid and Ataratheh.
- [ ] Tell Cid about Oeilvert.
- [ ] Don't tell Cid.
[ ] I should check up on those Valvalis Moogles.
[ ] I should tail after those Oeilvert agents, see what they're up to here.
- [ ] Alone.
- [ ] With Medea.
[ ] I should help out those Oeilvert agents, it'd help to be on Fortuna's good side, and Cidessa could be a possible Dicteria client...
[ ] Write-in.

[ ] Bring Kristen along, safety in numbers. Unless of those numbers is some failed inventor though, but eh.
[ ] Leave Kristen, he's been through a ton today, and he'd probably be happier gushing over those airships.

Pretty sure we should do none of the above that I chose, but some people need to make a vote here

XIX. All-Seeing Eyes.
"You'd be Miss Highwind, correct?" I said upon walking up to the brunette aviatrix.

"Yep, that's me! And you're, er, Cid said you were kinda someone important..." Medea began muttering. "Ah yeah, you're that woman who pointed out my assistant for that stunt back there".

"Indeed" I had to sigh "More officially I am Artemisia Lucrecia of the Ultima Lineage".

"Oh, one of those Nobles. Y'know your Old Town people have been a real pain in our-" Medea began, but I quickly cut her off.

"Well I'm aware most of the other Lineages are, shall we say, none too thrilled about Magitech and the New City, know that the Ultima have nothing against you, and have been trying to ease our fellow Lineages' bad faith" I recited an oft-given explanation of mine.

"Hmm, if you say so" Medea took her time to say, to then change the subject to "So in that case, anything you're here for? A-ha, bet it's an autograph!".

"Eh heh, not right now" I swiftly told her. "Have you seen a man and a woman wearing blue-and-black outfits?".

"What, you just needed help finding someone- Wait! Oh, now I know who you're talking about, those Oeilvert people, huh?" Medea's voice shot up. "Did they try to put their scare tactics on you too? Huh, to think they could intimidate me!".

"So you have. Well Medea, I was looking to keep track of them, and thought you could back me up in case, ahem, anything broke out" I could at last explain.

"Oh yeah, sure you can back me up" Medea, ahem, responded "Now, let's head straight after them!".

"They're spies, you don't just 'head after' them" I tried to go get trough to Medea, only to groan as I saw her taking off already.

Those two Oeilvert Operatives now seemed to be reviewing information, I could see they had some miniature camera displaying what I guessed were parts of Quetzal Aviation's interior.
"No outright evidence of involvement with Dicteria" the white-haired man said, as the equally pale-haired, bobbed woman nodded and promptly made a call to someone on her headset.

I breathed a sigh of relief, hopefully this meant I could stop being suspicious of Cidessa. But as luck would have of me, my relief was soon evaporated.

"Hiyaaah!" Medea had to shout and give us away, leaping down with her spear upon the two agents. However, neither agent look fazed as they dashed, though it looked more like teleporting, out the way of her impact.

Before Medea had the chance to react, the two spies somehow set up a field of lasers around her, caging her in. Undaunted, she just responded to this trap by bursting down into the earth with her spear and then tunneling right up out of it, blasting dirt all over those agents.

"It would be foolish to go forthwith your aggressive tendencies. Oeilvert sees all, so if you want to keep Quetzal's reputation intact, you'll wisely retreat" the woman agent said simply to Medea.

"What, and let you keep snooping around on people?!" Medea spat back out, again raising her lance.

"Haha, and to think we thought of your company as innocent. If you're this easily enraged, perhaps you really do have something you'd much like kept secret?" the woman smiled and casually side-stepped Medea's next strike. "Then again, who doesn't?".

With Miss Highwind not handling this well, it was about time I stepped in.

[ ] Raising my blade, I Forbid Teleportation and struck at them.
[ ] Raising my blade, I Forbid Teleportation and tried to smash their computer.
[ ] I tried to reasoning with them, offering to prove Quetzal and Cid's innocence by finding the real culprit.
[ ] I tried to reasoning with Medea, saying that as unethical as Oeilvert is, we wouldn't gain anything by antagonising them.
