Hmm, sounds like a good idea, since I'm tempted to reward any plan of attack with thought put into it.
Lucia's Judgement Blade is this big two-handed sword, so it should, especially if she swings hard enough.
Awesome.

[X] A Dark Knight's attack consume their own health right? I know, I'll just wait Dicteria's so low on health even she has to retreat... and hope I don't get hit in the process.
[X] It's not the honourable thing, but I'll flee. I can trust Fortuna can take care of this, well I hope anyway, and in turn give her the relief of not having to worry about me getting caught in friendly fire.
-[X] Leave the way I came.

I don't think that way's gotten wrecked yet.
Any chance either of you feel like going for my plan?

It sounds like it might work out pretty well.

[X] Position yourself so your under her
-[X] Switch to, Disable Flying
--[X] When she falls to you try to launch her away from you with an attack, then back off. Ideally, try to find cover behind something.
---[X] Switch to, Penalize with a counter attack taking your feet off the ground

So, at some point we should get ourself a gun or a bow or something as a back up weapon.

You know, for if we ever end up facing off against people who only do melee ranged attacks, we could disable movement and just take them down from a range completely invincible.

^Kristen (guns and gadgets), Elatha (crossbow) and Cosmic (soundwaves) actually all start out with ranged weapons. Actually with her sub-class being Bard Lucia can use sound attacks too.
For a bow or a gun though, she'd need to shift to a class like Ranger (open), Gunner (still locked) or one of the other Jobs that can use those weapons.

Anyway. also wanted to say that I'll be out of town for the night, so the next chapter will be somewhat delayed but voting will remain open longer.

[X] Try to keep away and wait for her health to go down and for her to retreat, but if you see an opening take it. Taking her down if possible is better, just not at the cost of our life.

XV. Exits and Entrances.
I clenched my teeth as I edged towards the shadow Dicteria cast, that dark spear-tornado of hers almost close enough to cut into me, before I changed the Law to Forbid Flight.

Upon that, Dicteria tried to drop down gracefully, but I took the chance to swat her like a fly with my sword. As for a second she was knocked back into the air, that turned out to be all the time needed by Fortuna to strike that Dragoon with a flurry of fire from the three mechs.
I then set a Penalty for being in mid-air, a blast from my Judgement Blade connecting with Dicteria in unison with Fortuna bringing down the Opal Weapon's Sword of Light down upon her. That finally proved to be all Dicteria could take, as she was sent falling into the darkness below.

I collapsed, heaving to get my breath back. Fortuna's Trance died down as power to the other mechs faded, with her saying "It might be wise to take the elevator down there, to see what's become of her and if she has any of her subordinates active down there. After all, as strong as she was, it would be sheer arrogance to assume she could break into Warmech alone".

"Well she didn't look like the most humble person" I muttered in response.

* * *

"Whoa! Your client wanted you to destroy something like *gulp* this?" Cosmic gasped as she looked up at the colossal mechs before her.

"Well, they weren't too precise about their exact size," Helen had to admit "But from what I know about machines, hit 'em at a few precise rusty joints, and you'll prove the saying 'bigger they are, harder they fall'. I know my boss Dicteria could easily solo one".

"Still seems a waste..." Kristen muttered.

It was then Herr Doktor, largely silent all this time, spoke up "Wait, you said your boss's name was Dicteria?".

"Yeah, so?" Helen shot back with "What, you know her?".

The Doktor just laughed at that "Ah hah, many on, er, 'my side of town' very well do. Hard to forget a rapidly rising gang leader".

"I've barely been in Corpus Crystallis that long, and even I've heard of her" Elatha brought up.

"Hah, So something was up wth you!" Xihe shouted.

Everyone's eyes firmly on Helen by now, she just said "Oh come on, Dicteria's not that bad. At least she treats her subordinates way better than some of those other crime bosses do. Besides, you're infiltrating this place too, 's not like you're so law-abiding either".

Before any of them had a chance to answer, the great sounds of gunfire and laser blasts came from high above. Only seconds after a great lance of darkness came ricocheting down from the ceiling, piercing through some of the hinges in the mechs' legs.

"Speaking of my boss" Helen shuddered, as she then ran towards tried to catch a figure who came falling from above. She succeeded, but almost got flattened to the floor in her attempt.

"Helen..." groaned the fallen figure, who using the spear she carried to stand got back on her feet. "That'll be more than enough, we're done with this place. I've done some serious damage to one of their Magitech Units, enough that Warmech will have one hell of a time covering it up. Let's go!". The Dark Dragoon then dashed off, not even bothering to take notice of the five others.

"Dicteria" Helen's voice whispered, before she then got on her motorcycle and sped off after her boss, who strangely seemed even faster on foot.
"Hey you guys!" Helen then called one last time to the group "Y'know, maybe you should at least take this, for the help and all".

Before she disappeared she tossed a strange dark feather the five's way, Xihe swiftly catching it. "This looks, kinda like some prop I saw used in the studio once. There it was called a Fallen Feather, but this thing looks more real than that-Wait, what?" she then stumbled as a blackened aura came over her, leaving Xihe dressed in dark armour when it subsided.

"Ah, looks just it just hanged your Job to Dark Knight" the Doktor mused "Not the... healthiest of Jobs, yet one that certainly get results".

Xihe then pulled the Feather away and returned back to being a Monk. "Oh, okay, that's at least gotta be worth hanging on to".

"There you are" I sighed with relief upon seeing my agents as the elevator made its way to the bottom "Now, you wouldn't have seen any gang members trying to infiltrate this place, damaging the machinery, have you?".

All five of them said nothing, their faces having turned pale, but even that was more reassuring than what Fortuna came down and said.
"Hmm, and just who are these people, pray tell, and how come I didn't see them coming in with you?" her cold voice rang out like a knife. "So suspicious of them to just show up in one of our factory's top-secret areas too. Now I'm beginning to wonder if Dicteria wasn't, at least initially, in your employ".

"Honestly, after what we just went through fighting Dicteria, and you'd accuse me of having anything to do with her?!" I snapped back at her, though with their holograms long worn off, I still had to think of an explanation to Fortuna as to how I knew these five and how they'd gotten down here.

[ ] "Er, they were part of my entourage, near the back. They must've gotten lost, eh heh".
[ ] "In fact, I sent these people after Dicteria's gang, they must've followed them here".
[ ] "While I do know them, I didn't come here with them. They must've come here on their own and gotten lost".
[ ] "Er, well I'm sure they can tell you themselves, right?".
[ ] "I sent them to poke around and investigate what Dicteria might be doing, I'm guessing they ended up following her or one of her subordinates here?" (ShadowAngelBeta Write-in)

XVI. Riding the Rail.
"Hmm, if you say so" Fortuna muttered and nodded, though her gaze didn't fully leave me.

"Oh, Warmech's CEO! Er, excuse me Madame, it's just that I once submitted a design here and-" Kristen began, but Fortuna paid him no heed.

"Naturally repairs will needed for the Magitech Weapons. I trust one they are administered I'll be able to get in contact with you about any purchase for them" Fortuna continued, before she brought up I guess what was on everyone's minds. "Do you have any ideas on who may have hired Dicteria to attack us?".

"Er..." I mumbled. Several ideas did come to mind, so in the end I said...

[ ] "The Rubicante. True, Maliris would never contract someone for a job she could do herself, but that doesn't rule out the other family members".
[ ] "The Cagnazzo. Most of their envy is directed toward ATSA and Quetzal Aviation, but if you have business with them makes sense they'd sic someone on you".
[ ] "The Valvalis. Zugspitze is quite vocal about technology 'taking the adventure out of life'. He is the type that likes to get involved personally, so it would've been another family member who hired them".
[ ] "The Scarmiglione. They're naturally the paranoid types, they could've easily labelled you as a threat".
[ ] It might've been my own family, Tomyris did say she was suspicious of you... "Sorry, nothing comes to mind".
[ ] "Er, maybe that Quetzal Aviation company thinks of you as competition or something".
[ ] "Might be that Gaea Greenhouse place, if they have environmental issues with you".
[ ] "Those Oeilvert Surveillance guys sound pretty paranoid to me, maybe they found something on you?"
[ ] "I have no reason to suspect any group more then any other. I mean, a group as powerful as this, particularly in a field such as this, tends to draw enemies, I could talk about the rival your business has till I lose my breath and theirs no real reason to be more suspicion of anyone one of them then any other, and it's not like rivals are the only people with motivation here." "I see" said Fortuna "We'll look into it. Warmech will be touching up security ibn the meantime, it'd be best if you left while we did so". Really, she still suspects me? "Still, our appreciation for your visit, Mistress of the Ultima". Okay, there's at least that.

"Uh, well you heard her, come along everyone" I said to my agents, heading back into the elevator, having to drag Kristen along before he kept pestering Fortuna about some invention of his.

* * *
"You did what?!" I fumed out, did these guys almost side with Dicteria?

"Er, we're really sorry!" Cosmic quivered "We honestly didn't know Helen had anything to do with her, and, well, she did fend off some monsters for us".

"Yeah, and you didn't look super-set on Fortuna and Warmech to begin with" Xihe piped in.

We were back on the monorail now, though with our, ahem, little discussion going on, we didn't have much of a chance to admire the scenery blurring by.
"And what if I'd made that deal with Fortuna? How would've you all made me look then?!" I shot out again, before I took a deep breath and was able to lower my tone to "Alright, well did we at least find out any more info on Warmech, besides the existence of the Weapons?".

"Yeah, they tossed my jetpack invention in the trash!" an unusually incensed Kristen spoke up.

"On that note, we did encounter some, shall we say, 'unorthodox' specimens upon our taking a wrong turn into the waste disposal" Herr Doktor chimed in "Not every day you get to see giant trash monsters up close".

"Right" I eventually sighed and folded my arms "Well at least it seems like you got enough information to back up claims of something suspicious going on. I think we've at least earned some time off...".

[ ] "Overall, we did rather well. You know what, keep up the good work!"
[ ] "Let's try a bit harder next time, though..."
[ ] "Let's just hope future missions go a whole lot better than that disaster".
[ ] "We could have done better ... but to be fair, that's mostly because we weren't particularly clear on what we were doing or how, and we were unprepared for a third party to enter the scene, all of which would have been difficult for us to be ready for with the information we had. I feel we all did about as well as could be expected taking that into account, so good job everyone, and we will endeavor to do better next." (King Arthur Write-in)

Recap I.
Judge, Opera Diva and Noble Artemisia Lucrecia 'Lucia' d'Ultima, sensing that the tensions between the Noble Lineages of the Elemental Crystals and the Magitech Research Facility are about to burst, decides to recruit a team of agents to foil any schemes they may have.
But instead of the professionals she had in mind, she instead gets a dubious back-alley plague doctor who simply calls himself 'Herr Doktor', a bumbling inventor named Kristen Faltskog, a kung-fu B-movie actress named Sun Xihe, a virtual idol curious about the world named Cosmic, and an out-of-place Private Detective from the wilderness named Elatha Silvari.

Questioning of their abilities, she sends them on a mission to infiltrate the Sacre Joyau Church bell-tower. After going mostly undetected, and overhearing a heated debate between rival Sects, they're attacked by a giant Gargoyle upon entering the tower.
Having the luck to defeat the Gargoyle and escape before they can be detected, Xihe ends up crashing down into someones' apartment in the middle of her escape, with Lucia and Kristen following after her to get her out of trouble with Town Guard Sophia.

Before their first mission, Lucia decides to test the team's strength further at the Crystalworld Colosseum. As her agents notice how unusually strong these monsters, Lucia runs into her cousin Tomyris, who says she's here to investigate possibly illegal monster breeding and creation.
As both Lucia's and Xihe's (Tomyris was overjoyed to be able to fight her favourite action star) fights with Tomyris end with the timer running out, Lucia then decides the next day to investigate weapons manufacturers and arms dealers Warmech Ordnance, thinking they might have something to do with these unnatural monsters.

As Lucia distracts Warmech CEO Fortuna Catia Mathers with business talk, Fortuna seeming eager to use the Ultima to expand her market to the other Lineages, the other five sneak off into the factory. They end up falling into a waste disposal pit, where they recover Kristen's old jetpack prototype and are saved from giant monsters made of garbage by the mysterious biker Helen, who says she's been hired to destroy (though she'd rather steal if she could) some powerful Magitech Units Warmech have developed.

Lucia and Fortuna meanwhile, go to check out these Magitech mechs, only for them to be attacked by Dicteria, a crime boss and Helen's superior. After eventually fending off Dicteria, who then escapes with Helen feeling she's done enough damage, Lucia and Fortuna start discussing who possibly could've hired Dicteria's gang in the first place.

As Lucia and her group takes the monorail back, with her chewing out her group for having briefly gone with Helen, the group decides to take a bit of time off.

XVII. Sights Skyward.
"Eh, sounds like possibly the best that could be said" the Doktor replied "Not that I was paying attention much on this mission, I'm far more interested in biological life-forms".

"Oh, er" Kristen blushed at my asking "Well that's a-a very gracious offer of you. Of course I will!".

"Ooh, that sounds like fun! Can I come?" Cosmic shot up, but Xihe then restrained her.

"Nah, Kristen looks pretty strung out, better give him and Lucia some alone time" the actress said holding her back "Besides, don't you have your singing stuff to get to, I know I have a new film in the works. Probably just gonna be doing some stunt stuff though" Xihe went on an tangent.

With the monorail coming to a near enough stop to Quetzal Aviation, I smiled and took a somewhat trembling Kristen by the arm. "W-wait" he suddenly said "I should maybe head back to my workshop, perhaps just get a few of my own gadgets to show them-".

At that I swiftly cut him off, telling him "Honestly there's no need, take some time to just stand back and see what Quetzal already has on display. After all isn't that what Open Days are for?".

Kristen looked about to raise his voice again, but he then sighed and said "Yeah, you're right. Guess I'm the guy who keeps telling himself 'Maybe this'll be my breakthrough', so much that I just rush things".

"Hmhm, good. You seem to be learning" I then grabbed him by the arm and took off with him along the New City streets.

As opposed to the rather desolate, grime-stained slums around Warmech Ordnance, this area of the City looked far more polished, filled with silvery-blue spires that glinted in the sun, and glowing green floating streets with vehicles flying atop them on levitators of light. We passed squares packed with people, in fact it was so crowded that I soon started to miss the more sedate Old Town, which also didn't have these loud, blaring billboards advertising some product or other.

The normally jumpier Kristen this time didn't seem as fazed, likely because he probably passed through this district on his usual commute. However his wide-eyed self soon returned, as his jaw dropped when an airship passed right above us, looking like a great shining dome being carried on a white and blue underside, fitted with wings, rockets and laser cannons.

"That, that must be a new Troyanda design!" Kristen exclaimed.

"Huh, Troyanda?" was all I could say in return.

"Y-you don't know Troyanda?" Kristen stared straight at me. "But she's one of the most famous- yeah okay, guess I should explain".
"Cidessa Troyanda, the Lighting Legend, Shadow of the Skies, was a top-tier pilot known for being so fast her enemies barely had time to react before she gunned or sliced them down. With things being more peaceful, she's made a second name for herself as an airship designer".

"Thanks, I appreciate your intro, and your marvelling at my latest creation, but I can take things from here" said a soft, feathery voice that came out of nowhere behind Kristen and I, causing me to spin around on reflex.

Luckily I had nothing to worry about, as this stranger seemed like quite the friendly sort. She was a smiling honey-blonde woman with long, flowing hair tied in a small tail at the very end, dressed in a distinguished black office uniform. Other than her hair what stood out the most to me where the two swords she had sheathed on her, both emitting a mild vibrating sound.

"Cid-Cidessa Troyanda! T-this is an honour Ma'am, I-I've always looked up to-" Kristen started blubbering out, at which Miss Cid just smiled and giggled.

"Why thank you, it always a pleasure to meet a fan. But there's no need to be so flustered, I'm far from royalty I assure you" she helped Kristen back to his feet, before she turned to me "Speaking of nobles though, it was actually Lucia here who made me drop down here, it's not everyday a Scion of one of the Five Lineages stops by, and an Opera Star too, even if I confess that's not usually my type of music. Well, all that and this place was right on the way to our Airshow".

"Charmed er, Miss Cid, Lady Cid, Lady Troy..." I shook her hand "We just came over here from Wamech Ordnance and-".

"Oh just Cid will do. Or Troya, I don't mind that one too" she kept smiling at me, until she picked up my mention of Warmech. "Right, Warmech. Ah, sorry to bring this up, but while as a war veteran i at least understand the service Lady Fortuna provides to our soldiers...".
She then sighed and muttered "It just pains me to see so much wondrous technology only end up devoted to war".

Wait, could that mean... No, that'd be jumping to conclusions way too soon.

"Anyway, sorry to hold you up, let's get going down to our show! Since you liked my new airship so much, I'm sure there'll be plenty more for your eyes to be captivated by!" Cid's bright tone returned "Ah, for instance, my fellow ace Medea Highwind should be pulling off a few stunt flights quite shortly".

A quick elevator ride taking us right to the wide green lawn outside Quetzal Aviation, with the company's building itself looking like an oversized glass shed with a slanted red steel roof, the crowd's and our eyes were immediately hooked by a bright white-and-gold biplane spinning high in the air, the sun right in its way.
This plane soon came to a gentle land, but with no pilot on-board, for said pilot, a brown-haired Dragoon wearing a dress in matching colours to the plane, had already leaped out when it was at its highest. She, Medea Highwind I assumed, was already spiralling down on feet-attached rockets, making golden glowing trails straight over the heads of the crowd before landing on the green right next to her plane.

"Thank you, thank you!" She bowed to the ecstatic, rose-flinging crowd. Hmm, personally I thought she looked nowhere near as tactful as Cidessa, but I couldn't deny she certainly made an impression.

"She does let it get to her head at times" Cidessa had to admit. Kristen's eyes meanwhile could've almost fallen out of their sockets.

But most intriguing of all, off leaning on a wall near the edge of the crowd, I could just make out... Baroness Ataratheh of the Cagnazzo! She was clapping, but that mainly looked to be out of courtesy since her expression still looked dark.
The role of daredevils and adventurers in this city had once held been by the Cagnazzo, and Ataratheh was never one to distance herself from the public, so I supposed it'd make sense for her to show up here, see what these young airship upstarts are up too.

"And for my next trick..." Medea proclaimed "I'll need a volunteer!".

[ ] My hand shot up "I'll do it!".
[ ] I pointed to Kristen, he was the one I had in mind coming here after all "Pick him! Pick him!".
[ ] I pointed out Cidessa, both ace flyers together should be something.
[ ] I pointed all the way over to Ataratheh "How about her over in the Shadows?", this I had to see.
