"Eh, sounds like possibly the best that could be said" the Doktor replied "Not that I was paying attention much on this mission, I'm
far more interested in biological life-forms".
"Oh, er" Kristen blushed at my asking "Well that's a-a very gracious offer of you. Of course I will!".
"Ooh, that sounds like fun! Can I come?" Cosmic shot up, but Xihe then restrained her.
"Nah, Kristen looks pretty strung out, better give him and Lucia some alone time" the actress said holding her back "Besides, don't you have your singing stuff to get to, I know I have a new film in the works.
Probably just gonna be doing some stunt stuff though" Xihe went on an tangent.
With the monorail coming to a near enough stop to Quetzal Aviation, I smiled and took a somewhat trembling Kristen by the arm. "W-wait" he suddenly said "I should maybe head back to my workshop, perhaps just get a few of my own gadgets to show them-".
At that I swiftly cut him off, telling him "Honestly there's no need, take some time to just stand back and see what Quetzal already has on display. After all isn't that what Open Days are for?".
Kristen looked about to raise his voice again, but he then sighed and said "Yeah, you're right. Guess I'm the guy who keeps telling himself 'Maybe this'll be my breakthrough', so much that I just rush things".
"Hmhm, good. You seem to be learning" I then grabbed him by the arm and took off with him along the New City streets.
As opposed to the rather desolate, grime-stained slums around Warmech Ordnance, this area of the City looked far more polished, filled with silvery-blue spires that glinted in the sun, and glowing green floating streets with vehicles flying atop them on levitators of light. We passed squares packed with people, in fact it was so crowded that I soon started to miss the more sedate Old Town, which also didn't have these loud, blaring billboards advertising some product or other.
The normally jumpier Kristen this time didn't seem as fazed, likely because he probably passed through this district on his usual commute. However his wide-eyed self soon returned, as his jaw dropped when an airship passed right above us, looking like a great shining dome being carried on a white and blue underside, fitted with wings, rockets and laser cannons.
"That, that must be a new Troyanda design!" Kristen exclaimed.
"Huh, Troyanda?" was all I could say in return.
"Y-you don't know Troyanda?" Kristen stared straight at me. "But she's one of the most famous- yeah okay, guess I should explain".
"Cidessa Troyanda, the Lighting Legend, Shadow of the Skies, was a top-tier pilot known for being so fast her enemies barely had time to react before she gunned or sliced them down. With things being more peaceful, she's made a second name for herself as an airship designer".
"Thanks, I appreciate your intro, and your marvelling at my latest creation, but I can take things from here" said a soft, feathery voice that came out of nowhere behind Kristen and I, causing me to spin around on reflex.
Luckily I had nothing to worry about, as this stranger seemed like quite the friendly sort. She was a smiling honey-blonde woman with long, flowing hair tied in a small tail at the very end, dressed in a distinguished black office uniform. Other than her hair what stood out the most to me where the two swords she had sheathed on her, both emitting a mild vibrating sound.
"Cid-Cidessa Troyanda! T-this is an honour Ma'am, I-I've always looked up to-" Kristen started blubbering out, at which Miss Cid just smiled and giggled.
"Why thank you, it always a pleasure to meet a fan. But there's no need to be so flustered, I'm far from royalty I assure you" she helped Kristen back to his feet, before she turned to me "Speaking of nobles though, it was actually Lucia here who made me drop down here, it's not everyday a Scion of one of the Five Lineages stops by, and an Opera Star too, even if I confess that's not usually my type of music. Well, all that and this place was right on the way to our Airshow".
"Charmed er, Miss Cid, Lady Cid, Lady Troy..." I shook her hand "We just came over here from Wamech Ordnance and-".
"Oh just Cid will do. Or Troya, I don't mind that one too" she kept smiling at me, until she picked up my mention of Warmech. "Right, Warmech. Ah, sorry to bring this up, but while as a war veteran i at least understand the service Lady Fortuna provides to our soldiers...".
She then sighed and muttered "It just pains me to see so much wondrous technology only end up devoted to war".
Wait, could that mean... No, that'd be jumping to conclusions way too soon.
"Anyway, sorry to hold you up, let's get going down to our show! Since you liked my new airship so much, I'm sure there'll be plenty more for your eyes to be captivated by!" Cid's bright tone returned "Ah, for instance, my fellow ace Medea Highwind should be pulling off a few stunt flights quite shortly".
A quick elevator ride taking us right to the wide green lawn outside Quetzal Aviation, with the company's building itself looking like an oversized glass shed with a slanted red steel roof, the crowd's and our eyes were immediately hooked by a bright white-and-gold biplane spinning high in the air, the sun right in its way.
This plane soon came to a gentle land, but with no pilot on-board, for said pilot, a brown-haired Dragoon wearing a dress in matching colours to the plane, had already leaped out when it was at its highest. She, Medea Highwind I assumed, was already spiralling down on feet-attached rockets, making golden glowing trails straight over the heads of the crowd before landing on the green right next to her plane.
"Thank you, thank you!" She bowed to the ecstatic, rose-flinging crowd. Hmm, personally I thought she looked nowhere near as tactful as Cidessa, but I couldn't deny she certainly made an impression.
"She does let it get to her head at times" Cidessa had to admit. Kristen's eyes meanwhile could've almost fallen out of their sockets.
But most intriguing of all, off leaning on a wall near the edge of the crowd, I could just make out... Baroness Ataratheh of the Cagnazzo! She was clapping, but that mainly looked to be out of courtesy since her expression still looked dark.
The role of daredevils and adventurers in this city had once held been by the Cagnazzo, and Ataratheh was never one to distance herself from the public, so I supposed it'd make sense for her to show up here, see what these young airship upstarts are up too.
"And for my next trick..." Medea proclaimed "I'll need a volunteer!".
[ ] My hand shot up "I'll do it!".
[ ] I pointed to Kristen, he was the one I had in mind coming here after all "Pick him! Pick him!".
[ ] I pointed out Cidessa, both ace flyers together should be something.
[ ] I pointed all the way over to Ataratheh "How about her over in the Shadows?", this I had to see.
[ ] Write-in.
