A bit of a writeup on the ship's designs.

DD Fenrir class: As expected of a destroyer, it is a fast, nimble, and aggressive design. The armored frontal hull conceals many torpedo launchers.

CL Sleipnir class: Versatile light cruiser design geared toward escort roles. It has numerous defensive turrets and VLS cells. Usually deployed alongside destroyer wolfpacks as support.

CA Meleager class: Heavy cruiser, fast and well armed and protected. Three forward superfiring turrets are inspired by Japanese heavy cruisers like the Takao and Tone class, who has most of their turrets forward. T-Tail hosts many of the ship's sensors and defensive arrays ( I know it's kinda stupid, but it looks cool).

BB Adrasteia class: Inspired by the Yamato-class battleships, particularly with its row upon rows of secondary armament. It's a large, heavily armoured battleship with a defensive orientation. Four centreline turrets houses 508mm gauss/plasma accelerators.

BB Hephaestion class: Fast battleship design, as a counterpoint to Adrasteia it is more offensively orientated. Packs numerous beam cannons for long-range combat, and torpedo launchers for close-range combat.

CVF Hestia class: Fleet carrier, the largest ship in the Cosmo Navy. It anchors entire fleets and provide critical strategic rearline support. Not at all an agile ship, as its shape will have told you, but its command capability is unmatched.

DNV Vritra class: sister class to the Vajra class DN, it is faster and more heavily armoured than the Hestia class, but has smaller strikecraft capacity. As an armoured carrier, it takes advantage of its armored flightdeck design to brings its flight complement to the frontlines where conventional carriers may not survive.

DN Vajra class: To subvert the tropes usually associated with things named 'dreadnought', I made her a swift and sleek looking ship, with back-swept 'wings'. Of course as a dreadnought it is still an extremely well armored and armed ship. The 'eye' is a homage to Gamilas ships and ancient Galleys.

Next set-- ships of the Sancaeri Myriad Foundation. Imagine an entire race of friendly Shivan-Reaper-Tyranid hybrids. Yes, friendly! They are one of the humanity's closest allies, as both races are similar in the engineer-scientist mentality. Where humans are masters of material science and industrial engineering, the Sancaeri focuses on exotic biomechanical engineering and energy weaponry.

Description:

Vajra-Indestructible and Irresistible; an apt name for the Republic's final argument in strategic and tactical direct force application.
Borne out of the FLEXDEV Ring I programme, the Vajra class DN combines the sum of naval engineering, material science, and military doctrinal progress made since the First Incursion War. Republic Naval Doctrine emphasizes versatility and mobility;the venerable Deianira and Hestia-class carriers and stalwart Adrasteia class battleship, as well as the Meleager heavy cruiser are the classical centerpieces of this doctrine.

This doctrine was put to test during the First Incursion War: The Nahdrayn Warfleets with their immense dreadnoughts and capital ship-centered battleteams are pitted against the Republic Cosmo Navy's flexible Composite Task Groups. The Republic achieved mixed results; While the CTGs are versatile and flexible, they are often outmatched by the sheer brute force of a Nahdrayn Warfleet, for example, when CTG PENDRAGON 41st went against the Wolves of Vandhir Warfleet above Galleria. The Wolves of Vandhir are able to deploy six battleships and two battlecarriers against the 41st's two battleships and two fleet carriers. The 41st was routed with the total loss of both battleships and the carriers' flight groups.

Smaller CTGs suffered even greater losses; the cruiser-and-carrier centered Flexible Fire Divisions simply can't match the strength of a Nahdrayn Warfleet. However, some significant victories provided critical insights: Nahdrayn Warfleets with their Warlord's autonomy are largely immune to decapitating chain-of-command strikes, counterintuitively, the most effective way to combat them would be simply to match them with strength in the battlespace. This insight proves decisive: the Battle on Mars Perimeter broke the Nahdrayn invasion's back. Admirals Elissa, Yoshisada, and Lars' legendary holding action- a series of gambits, flanking and counterflanking, and head-to head engagements -emerged victorious. A true masterpiece of strategic defensive warfare...

It was determined that Cosmo Navy needed a new breed of combatant: One capable of maintaining and augmenting the doctrine of Mobility and Versatility; but with significant power of its own; a ship capable of entering any tactical situation and decisively resolve it, either alone or with other fleet assets; a ship that fears nothing-a Dreadnought.

Designed to be the ultimate combination of tactical versatility, firepower, mobility, and survivability, and implicitly designed and equipped to fight multiple superior enemy capital ships and win. Flexible, agile, and practical enough to avert a Monumental Combatant Failure/ Center Force vs Taffy 3 scenario...

Complete redraw of the Adrasteia class battleship: featuring much less random secondary battery placement.

For something completely different:
Human Skirmisher Vanguard-heavy melee specialist

Human Grenadier Vanguard- heavy anti-armor/fortification specialist

Human Defender Vanguard- heavy fortifier/anti-infantry specialist

Okay, design writeups:

CVE Deianira class: Deianira class fulfills the dual function as a mid-line carrier (with its strikecraft facility) and cruiser (with its not insignificant weaponry) in the Republic Navy. It can provide local CAP and strike capability, and hold its own with a wide array of Gauss, missile, and Spectrum weaponry.

SC Morpheus class: A veritable digital fortress, Morpheus hosts the primary EWAR and ECCCM mainframes of a Republic CTG. It provides immense 'soft' supporting power to blunt and degrade the enemy's digital battlespace.

CC Medea class: Battlecruisers are deployed as a fast response force, rapidly plugging gaps in defenses or attacking ahead of the main force. It has no fixed-frontal mount, but it has ten rapid-firing Gauss Accelerators in five twin turrets; this rewards fast flanking and circling engagements.

NCL-808 "Strider"

"They stopped just short of calling them Tachikomas"
- Himamura Kusao, former NCL Project Lead, now Complex INDUSTRIA Head of Mobile Armatech Development

"These ladies, who are amalgam spirits of thought-to-be-inanimate objects themselves, we give them their own robot buddies. And this is actually not the most insane idea out of JCOM yet."
- Hakulu Adiwane, Esoteric Combat Operations Commander, CTG CHTHONIC

The usage of robotic combatants in the Abyssal War is reflective of the tactical consternations faced by military commanders in the field. Early Abyssal battlefield optima prescribes simple, head-on rushes and close assaults; powerful but counterable with contemporary sophisticated maneuver and electronic warfare strategies. Usage of drones as expendable force absorbers are quite often decisive: flocks of expendable suicide drones flew with their human comrades and baited Abyssal fire; drone minesweepers drew fire from Abyssal destroyer pods and lured them to the waiting missiles of the fleet. Indeed, even in the faithful Battle of Tokyo Bay, a swarm of three hundred "Kite" drones held the skies while Fubuki made her entrance; the Abyssal carrier analogue subsequently withdrew her fighters leaving the skies uncontested even as the Abyssal landmorphs prevailed on the ground.

A series of development projects by the Joint Command explored the usage and design of new robotic support units. The Joint Command enlisted the aid of top robotics, AI, and military designers and bureaus in this undertaking, one of its earliest, and provided a substantial financial backing. The early Strider is one of the results of this program. The Strider design was, initially, a compact armored 'pillbug' with four sets of bifurcating legs, equipped with burst thrusters and grappling hook equipment, specialized for urban traversal and amphibious for deployment in coastal cities.

The program, codenamed as Non-Conventional Locomotion (NCL) Action Group, produced several other results, such as a speedy descendant of the Big Dog (and indeed one of the conceptual ancestors of the Strider) named "Jackal" - a four-legged ammo runner - and the bipedal sentry "Bagong". But it was the Strider design, with its expansive and modular chassis that went on to be the breakout success. By 2021, the first batch of eight thousand saw deployment worldwide. A squad of eight Striders encountered the first Shipgirls at London, and one actually attempted to apprehend the shipgirl Belfast.

These first Striders are deployed as scouts, marking targets for artillery and accompanying their human compatriots on close assaults (such variants given heavier weaponry and protection). The command and control system of the Striders underwent much changes as it develops. Early variants are controlled by a remote human pilot on a one-on-one basis. As the Strider chassis is capable of increasingly extreme maneuvers, human control was weaned out. The next step was the use of a "squad commander" unit, with the rest moving autonomously, equipped with a neural-net processor capable of understanding contextual commands and limited independence.

Fully human controlled squads remain used in anti-cultist roles, as basic Strider programming actually puts a priority on protecting human lives, causing latency in parsing kill commands, a fact that has been exploited by cultists in their acts of terror. In the 2023 Ise Grand Shrine bombings, the responding Strider pack acted with sluggishness until a manual override and swift action from local law enforcement units resolved the situation. The debate on the matter of AI morality and inanimate consciousness remains, especially in the post-Emergence philosophical paradigm and worldview.

The Joint Command's Complex INDUSTRIA has recently shifted its procurement; rather than subcontracting the entire process out to a consortium of manufacturers, it now procures parts from a diverse set of manufacturers and even artisans and assembles them in-house. This move, enacted under INDUSTRIA's Project Andvari, was ostensibly intended as a security measure and an anti-hegemony plan. But there are allegations that one of the companies in the initial production consortium was involved in pro-cultist activities. Controversy on this issue continues.

The newest and most advanced Strider variant (pictured above) is known as the Spindleguard. Incorporating the newest advances in principles of shipgirl-derived Computational Thaumaturgy, it is capable of both agnostic and heuristic sophisticated cognitive skills. Its range of motion was greatly improved with unprecedented terrain-clearing ability, its body and limbs capable of facing many directions at once to strike or relocate as needed. The two primary arms possess flexible armoured fingers that can be merged into a 'hoof' for hard landings. Two upper arms are geared for melee combat, incorporating a deflection plate and large blade attachments. The four hind limbs are its primary means of locomotion, equipped with grappling hooks and thrusters for rapid three-dimensional maneuvers in urban battlespaces. This capabilities made the Spindleguard a beloved consort for shipgirl and human operatives in operations in flooded hive cities.

The flagship of CTG ANATHEMA, Master of Intelligences Akitsu Maru, is known for commanding a personal retinue of Spindleguards in her sorties against cultist enemies, such that she earned the nickname "Mistress of Spiders". These Spindleguards are enhanced with proprietary JCOM technology, a new five-limbed variant specialized towards stealth and hard close-range combat befitting of their grim purpose in ANATHEMA's employ.

Joint Command- Special Operational Authority - Composite Task Group "GROTESQUE"

CVX-000 JCS "Ambient March"

Nicknames: "Triple Zeroes", "Sleeping A"

Motto: "Keel first into the Abyss!"

Her story will be posted in full in the main story thread. This is a preview.

Pictured here with her mission badge, one of the Joint Command's greatest and most intriguing assets, the aircraft/shipgirl carrier Ambient March, built on the hulk of the as-of-yet unnamed fourth ship of the Gerald R.Ford-class aircraft carriers, which was abandoned in construction when Newport was destroyed by an Abyssal bombing strike, then claimed and rebuilt by the Joint Command. Home of the elite battlefield research division CTG GROTESQUE, led by Vice Admiral Kaname Hinakuri and her Flag Captain Joseph Alemana. As of current, her shipgirl contingent's membership consists of Musashi, Taihou, Choukai, Maya, White Plains, Shimakaze, and Eldridge.

Many important breakthroughs in counter-Abyssal research are integrated in her construction, and in turn many more breakthroughs are discovered by her onboard research facilities.

Her facilities include:

- Drone bays (Taihou's roost)

- Shipgirl launch and maintenance facilities

- The Store

- The Wet Market

- A local copy of the Nightmare List

- The Ambient Shroud System.

Hydvangir Empire Dark Fleet

Musaruhi Linam (Republic Cosmo Navy designation: Darkness) class stealth battlecruiser

4x3 Heavy Ion Cluster Fragmentation Driver battery, 2x3 Heavy Redshift Trinity Direct Beam fixed mount, 5x Heavy Disruptor Shock Cannon turret, 6x Heavy Ion Blaster Broadside Array, 18x Catalyst Torpedo Accelerator broadside cells, 14x Redshift Sweeper Beam Array, 6x Twin DP Redshift Beam turret, 12x2 Light Ion Repeater turret, 25x4 Ion Machinegun Battery, 12x Blacksand Caster Array

---

The Hydvangir Empire Dark Fleet's proclivity for stealth is well-documented. Their Whisper Drives and general fastidious approach to SIGINT, EMCON, and cryptography upholds this; in combat, stealth is used to support their brute-force ambushes, usually in combination with the Empire's already sensor-damning nebular territory. Stealth tactics are, for the lack of a better word, maintainer of the Empire's neutrality and the Dark Fleet's reputation.

Thus, the emergence of the new Darkness-class battlecruisers, while shocking, are not entirely unexpected. Rizulon psychohistorians working for the Republic Strategic Directives Division and tacticians of the Combined Fleet Command Analysis Section has predicted, that given historical trends of galactic violence spilling closer and closer to Hydvangir territory, the reclusive empire will inevitably seek to augment their armada with new designs. The stalwart Mirahati Linam/Tenebrarch-class battlecruisers, old guardians of the Empire, have reached the peak of their refit cycles, while other elements in Dark Fleet hierarchy is reluctant to alter further the sacred designs of the fleet.

From this requirement, the Musaruhi is born, alongside its companion, the Harnauli Vangam/Albedo class stealth destroyer.

Her first publicly seen combat deployment takes place in the fringes of the Graceanum region, where both the Republic and Empire's territory bordered each other, and bordered the territory of the Synaptic Revolution.

A runaway combat process of the Synaptics sortied a strike wing of four Tornado-class destroyers, two Deluge-class heavy torpedo cruisers and one Blizzard-class battlecruiser, sending them on strike trajectory towards an Imperial border post. A distress signal was sent, and the regional Hydvangir government gave permission for Republic forces to enter their territory and intervene, as they are, regrettably, significantly closer than the nearest Dark Fleet detachment.

Admiral Lars, Republic commander-in-chief of the region, sortied his own flagship, the Vajra-class dreadnought RNDN Nyx and his attendant fleet, CTG EIDOLON 22nd.

As the fleet arrived, they expected combat but found a slaughterhouse scene. The four Synaptic destroyers lay devastated. A black-and-red warship of unknown design is trading fire with the Synaptic battlecruiser, deftly dancing around glittering barrages of cluster torpedoes fired from the Deluges. Lars ordered a cautious approach, and immediately requested a Morpheus-class support cruiser to be sortied to his battlespace. The ship seemed to blink in and out the detectability spectrum as well as the naked eye.

The weapons of the then-mysterious ship are more familiar: Redshift beams criss-crossed the battlespace, contrasting the Blizzard's own barrage of blue beam fire. The unknown ship fired a salvo of heavy Ion blasts on a broadside pass, then immediately turned around and blasted the Blizzard's aft with a thumping barrage of scintillating Ionic discharge fired from its bow; this weapon is later identified as a Ion Cluster Fragmentation Driver, a terrifying weapon also mounted on the Albedo-class stealth destroyer on a smaller scale.

It was an execution, and the Blizzard's darkmatter core detonated instantly under the impact.

Lars ordered three of his heavy cruisers to deal with the remaining hostiles; the Murugan, Kaikeyi, and Impressario executed a precision jump-strike and swiftly resolved the tactical situation.

The Hydvangir commander of the ship exchanged a curt formal greeting and assured Lars they would meet again soon before jumping out. Contact scans performed by the Morpheus-class Ooyodo are incomplete, but the Empire's new class of ship is secret no more.

The Cosmo Navy Admiralty is instantly electrified. Analysts immediately pointed out that the Republic's own Medea-class battlecruisers are directly inferior to the Darkness. Various diplomatic intelligence services confirmed that even the regional Hydvangir government and Dark Fleet command possesses no prior knowledge of the Darkness' deployment or even presence. The Empire's historical rivals, the Nahdrayin Galactic Authority, sent discreet intelligence feelers for whatever data they could obtain from the Republic.

Two months later, the Galactic Naval Review is held in the Grand Central Complex located on neutral territory. Three Republic Admirals are sent with their flagships and a honor guard fleet: Elissa with the Sol Invictus, Nova Sercsedic with the Krios, and Lars himself with the Nyx. The Sancaeri Foundation sent one supercarrier, the Yragathiy with Vezizy the Eccentric commanding and its escorts. The NGA proudly displayed four of the newest Theam Sabsratni-class battleships, anxious of the Empire's arrival. The Black Advent Concordium delegation consisted of the Preliator Caeli-class strike carrier Theimara's Wrath and two other fleet carriers. Admiral Yonhae of the Red Dragon Syndicated Arms mercenaries arrived in the Kraken-class siege dreadnought Kraken herself.

The Empire delegate's arrival drew sharp breaths (or clicks of mandible in case of Vezizy) from those observing.

It was the lone Darkness-class battlecruiser, and her commander who would later be recognized as the seventh bearer of the title of Lord of The Black Tide, Prajaheni Drapasani. The political impact was immediate and wide-reaching, as Prajaheni also arrived with a wing of nine new Albedo-class stealth destroyers. He arrived with a mysterious smile, almost assuredly directed first at Lars as the bridges of their ships approached, and second at the Nahdrayn delegates.

The twenty-seventh GNR, the second since the resolution of the Incursion War, proceeded to become one of the most unusual naval reviews in Galactic history.

-----

Prior to the GNR, Supreme Admiral of the Republic Cosmo Navy, Elissa Tysamne, Hero of The First Incursion War, had a different experience concerning the new ship. During her routine battle-meditation, the admiral engages in a virtual simulated battle with a randomized selection of hostile forces. As her virtual flagship Sol Invictus is tangling in a pitched maneuver battle with a simulated Concordium strike carrier, she received a system message saying a new random variable will be added to the system. She breathed silently and braced for this new random variable to enter the battlespace; such variables has been known to consist up to a virtual supernova.

But it was a swarm of sensor ghosts. Not quite unfamiliar. She had expected a virtual representation of the Darkness to be her enemy. But initial scans provided similarities to a Republic ship. She ordered an immediate escalation on her ship, activating the dreadnought's snapshot Broadside Firelink System in anticipation. The sensor ghosts then began to blink out in sequence, but the ship's transluminal proximity sensors began to wail in alarm.

The assailant then jumped in in full view of her from the bridge, a shape that is at the same time reminiscent yet different from the Darkness. Precision Gauss shots from the ship instantly disabled three out of the five dorsal Ultraheavy Impulse turrets, disabling the Broadside Firelink before the system can manage a partial salvo.

At the same time, her dreadnought's portside Gauss/Plasma Accelerator batteries caught and destroyed the Concordium strike carrier, but it was of no consolation for her. She ordered an immediate end to the simulation, pulling the neurojack from her own spine without waiting for the usual procedure specialists. It was said that after she calmed herself in her private quarters, she personally sought out and met the Iterative Administrator responsible at the time, although the result of that meeting remains unclear.

The mysterious ship in question is a simulated stealth dreadnought, a virtual construct combining all the known performance parameters of the Darkness in a human-built hull and equipped with human technology and weapons. A simulated technology demonstrator that for all purposes, is not currently built yet except in the Iteration Array simulation farm of the Cosmo Navy. But various civilian oversight groups noticed an uptick in the Adamantine Foundry's Forgemind AI process cycles. An increase in traffic at the Phaedra Materials Science Institute. Power allocation for an unknown purpose in the Erneus prototype Dyson Swarm. For now, per the principles of the Blade Transform, it remains a Hidden - arguably Formless - Blade.

This is an old concept sheet of the various mid-weight ships of the Republic Cosmo Navy.

At the time, the Meleager CA is named the Enarete, the Sleipnir CL is named Delphinus, and the Fenrir-class DD is classified as a frigate. The Deianira-class CVE is largely unchanged. Of the ships present in this picture, only the Artillery Cruiser Boreas-class is lacking in a finalized art. She will come in the (hopefully) near future.

Today's art is a redraw and recycling of the concept shape of the Enarete.

Intercelestium Republic Combined Fleet Cosmo Navy

Cronus-class Planetary Assault Carrier

4x2 Gauss Ordnance Bombardment Turret, 4x Medium Spectrum Beam Array, 168-Cell Orbital Missile battery, 4x Impulse Intermediate turret, 20x3 Impulse Secondary Turret, 8x CMIW Composite Mount
Capacity: 80 strikecraft, 2 corvettes, 40 Orbital Dive Pod, 500 vehicles, 8800 infantry, 24 OMAKE battlesuits

The Cronus-class CVP (depicted here roughly to-scale with the Mako-class assault lander corvette it is capable of carrying) is the ship of choice of the Cosmo Navy, Mobile Army, and Voidsmen Corps for planetary landings and boarding actions. It is a solid, well-compartmentalized ship, built on a modified and expanded hull of the Meleager-class heavy cruiser.

Ships of this class houses, in her usual loadout, one Orbital Dive Battalion, a hybrid unit of orbitally deployed armour and infantry with support from OMAKE (Orbital Mobility Active Kinetic Engagement) battlesuits. Further planetary engagement capability is provided by aerospace strikecrafts and lander corvettes capable of acting in aerospace superiority and close air support roles. The ship's cavernous planetary deployment bays are capable of servicing and housing large numbers of land equipment, while its hangars and launch bays, though smaller in capacity, are renowned for their fast repair cycle.

OMAKE battlesuits are deployed through a different method altogether, being essentially fired from ventrally-mounted electromagnetic launch rails, giving rise to their nickname of the Stormrider Corps.

The ship's own armament is largely geared towards support of land-based forces, with only four medium beam systems and Impulse turrets as an auxiliary weapon against ships. Missile batteries provide strategic defense and precision strike capability. The four Gauss Ordnance Bombardment Turrets are modified versions of the "Striker" heavy long-barreled Gauss/Plasma Accelerators mounted as heavy secondary battery on Republic dreadnoughts. Optimized for precision and range, they are slow-traversing, slow-loading, and is a poor anti-ship weapon. These weapons fire projectiles capable of bypassing planetary shields and smashing through miles-deep bunkers, or saturating an area with lethal submunitions.

When deployed in a ship-boarding role, Entry Gates mounted on the edge of the ship's wing are smashed on the target ship's hull, providing entry through a localized Impulse blast cell. Typically, combat shield-equipped Voidsmen Breachers and Skirmisher Vanguards with drone support lead the way in assaulting the enemy ship. These Gates can be detached and jettisoned in case of a counter-boarding or contamination scenario.

It is the largest class of Republic warship capable of planetary landings. Several mission modules exist, including hospital and specialized research modules.

Concept of something special...later.

The Pale Kingdom in a Hidden Place, a Kingdom without Kings and Queens

I know what it wants to be. To be the absolute last outcome, the pit to which all ends will flow. The Net is frayed, stitched to the shape of a diseased Flower; the Flower that is the last, the Flower in the end of the path, pale, colourless. And within it is the Womb of The Perfect World.

It wanted to live forever.

Oberon's Meditation

The warframe Oberon, holy knight of the Tenno, Paladin of the Wilderness, sits in contemplation in a hidden cloistered shrine deep within the forests of Old Earth, a place of earth, water, and life. The night sky hangs above him like a carpet of stars, interrupted only by the tall and mighty trees of the vast forests. His favoured mace planted upside down by his side.

Unnamed Carrier design.

Prior to the creation of the two republic carriers, The Hestia and the Vritra this design was a preliminary concept. It was inspired by the new 2003 battlestars particularly in the sloping alligator-head.

Akatsuki - Dawn.

A recreation of this:

I posted the original art in the KC pictures thread of both forums, and at that time I was fishing for words to describe its beauty, words I did not manage to find at the time. But I have found it now;

Evocative.

Kantai Collection is, as a whole, a very evocative media that allows for massive freedom of interpretation and creation, much more than any other atual story-driven games I have played, with few exceptions. This album art is one of those pieces that simply supports this opinion.

It was such an evocative piece of art that I could not accept the fact that in the year of our Lord two-thousand and seventeen there is not a larger, cleaner version of it. So I set to recreate it myself. Some things are changed; I could not recreate the waves, nor the beautiful colouring of the original. The clouds are my favorite part to draw, and the sun is significantly more prominent in this version.

I hope it is to your satisfaction.

Here's two old pieces, the progress evolution of the Dreadnought's design.

As a comparison, the finalized Vajra and Vritra.

Vajra:

4x Ultraheavy Spectrum Beam cannon fixed mount, 6x Heavy Spectrum Beam array, 8x Medium Spectrum Beam Array, 9x Light Spectrum Beam Turret, 9x3 Ultraheavy Spectrum Impulse turret, 16x2 Heavy Gauss/Plasma Strike Accelerator turret, 144-cell Versatile Multilauncher Complex, 10x Double Impulse Burst turret, 42x Triple Impulse Secondary turret, 32x Double Gauss/Plasma Secondary turret, 32x CMIW Composite Mount

Vritra:
2x Ultraheavy Spectrum Beam Artillery fixed mount, 6x Heavy Impulse Artillery fixed mount, 2x Quadruple Ultraheavy Spectrum Impulse Turret, 6x2 Medium Spectrum Beam turret, 162-cell LRM Battery, 10x2 Medium Impulse turret, 8x Gauss Intermediate turret, 28x3 Secondary Impulse turret, 16x2 Secondary Gauss Turret, 36x CMIW Composite Mount
Capacity: 216 strikecraft (18 squadrons), 12 corvettes, 45 various support craft

The first one is much older, and many design elements in the finalized Dreadnought are not present yet. It is quite charming in its own way, being much simpler and more robust but with less visible weaponry than the current slender design, which you can also see takes it prototypical form in the second image. At the time, the conception of the dreadnought is to give it a carrier role too, but that has since been split off to the Vritra, which is why the first design is more massive. The legacy of the first design can be seen in the Hestia's bow design, although overall the Hestia's hull is much different.

The bow design didn't change much from the second design to the final design. It was agreed at the time that the Republic Dreadnought must not be a lumbering behemoth but an agile, sophisticated, and ferocious killer, compromising neither speed, firepower, or survivability. The prow part of the bow, or the lower 'jaw' , houses four Ultraheavy Spectrum beam systems, its most powerful armament. Although the beam system itself is not the strongest warship-mounted beam in the galaxy, it is compact, reliable, and its mounting is more robust and rugged, repairable in hours or days at worst. It fires more rapidly and can switch between beam and cluster fire mode. The Vritra takes pride in its diversity of armament, capable of reliably engaging swarms of smaller warships or slugging it out with other dreadnoughts with equal proficiency and terrifying versatility.

Because the Republic cannot dictate the terms of its enemies' capabilities, it is designed from the ground up, from its doctrine, training, equipment up to its overarching grand strategy to be adaptable.

She does not approach the raw power of other interstellar nations' dreadnoughts, but outnumbers them. The first production run of four are named the Sol Invictus, Aegia, Athena, and Apotheon; all four participated in the cataclysmic showdown at the end of the First Incursion War. The Block II run's first ships are named after its namesake: Kongou, Hiei, Haruna, and Kirishima.

The Vritra was a new controversial designation: the DNV or dreadnought carrier, an evolution of the armoured carrier concept and a sister class to the Vajra. Designed to not only deliver its flight wings to heavily contested battlespaces, but to also survive and participate effectively in ship-to-ship engagements much like its sister. Despite this, its armaments are more optimized for long-range combat. It mounts two Artillery-spec Ultraheavy Spectrum Beam cannons - trading the Vajra's ruggedness and cluster fire capability in exchange for greater raw power and accuracy - and another six Impulse artillery weapons and dedicated long-range missile launchers. It has smaller hangar capacity - 216 vs 420 for the Hestia, but carries more specialized craft such as the new Veorfolnir-class strike bombers.

All Republic warships are designed with the aesthetic intention to combine WW2 warships' "stack of equipment and guns" look and modern warships' angular, sophisticated lines. They all feature a primary bridge and a secondary underbridge, both of which are heavily armored, shuttered, and protected. The pointy spikes prevalent in all designs is integral to the way FTL works in-universe, basically a FTL equivalent to an aerodynamic shape, required to rapidly make transitions from realspace to superluminal jumpspace.

I THINK it has enough guns, but there's always room for more. :V

Huge clusters of secondary guns are, like, a fetish for me man. It's an important aspect of a battleship's personality. Why else is Musashi waifu? Look at Yamato and how absolutely rapetastic it is in WoWs. Republic tacticians' and shipwrights' jobs can be partially described as "how do we make that work."
