A Spell in Parseltongue (Reboot) - Discussion and Claim Thread

I had it on Caspian's sheet that he was a new member this year, though nobody said anything about it. He's more the quiet kid that doesn't really talk at the meetings.
True, I missed that! In fact, I've seen there's also one Lestrange in the Slug Club of the 40's (he's likely from an older generation than Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromeda's).

In that case, the Slug Club would go up to 6, if we count both Avery and Lestrange.

@phil03

One thing I was wondering about was the Slug Club and its members. Right now, the one that are in for sure are Tom, Eleanor and Evelyn - from what I can remember of people's sheets. Tom's didn't specify it, but given he was more likely thsn than not a member in canon, I'd be surprised if Slughorn didn't invite him.

Avery was also a member, from what the wiki says.

Who else would you say might be a member? I think Slughorn never really gathered a large group for the Slug club at any time (at the very least, it seems like meetings didn't have more than 10 attendees) but I suppose that could be a restriction placed by the man later on.
Since they're didn't seem to have been a fixed number of students I'll try to get the ceiling as high as possible (for gameplay reason) and go with 15. Appart from those already mentionned Hercules and Lucretia also are members as part their sheet. I could also see either Patricia Bones or Charlus Potter being invited as well.

So that would leave six spots open.

I suppose some of those should be reserved for PC characters, in case other people wanted to get inside (specially if there are more 5th years that meet Slughorn's criteria).

It'd be strange seeing a small dinner/party with people so different like Tom and his lackeys or Patricia Bones lol I'm sure the silences when conversations wind down are more than a little awkward.

I'm looking forward to the first meeting. Slughorn was always interested in living off his "protégés" success and basically a social climbing Hogwarts professor. Evelyn is not exactly pleased with the underlying nature of the Slug Club, even if she's hypocritical enough to take full advantage of it nonetheless.

She had to get the slip to the Restricted Section somehow, after all :V

IIRC there's a description of the Slug Club in one of Slughorn's memories. I remember a Lestrange being there, for instance.

What underlying nature?
Basically the fact that the Slug Club is a way for Slughorn to live off the fame his favorites might earn. It's nothing really that is extensively talked about, but mostly with Slughorn's characterization and the nature of the club itself.

Slughorn only attracted students that stood out either academically or thanks to raw talent, apart from those that came from powerful and influential families (sometimes, both factors combined). He'd basically be an enabler on some level - he allowed an initial level of network creation between peers in a more private setting and encouraged/fostered their growth. In return, said students would give him constant benefits, like Gwenog Jones.

It's basically a symbiotic relationship, a thinly veiled 'you scratch my back, I scratch yours' situation, but though Slughorn is portrayed fairly, I can't avoid thinking that the man is practically leeching off his students when they're famous or have hit it big. Notice how it's stated that some students are quickly dropped when Slughorn doesn't see the investment working out in the future (like Belby).

He's basically grooming a group of people that will feel indebted to him and act accordingly in every generation and discarding the ones that don't make the cut without a second thought.

Huh. I never really noticed that.
That's rather smart and manipulative of the guy.

Still here, waiting for something quidditch related for Dai or for Sept to deal with.

Still playing as well. I haven't written anything else mostly because no one else is in Slytherin's common room and my last two posts were already big. Dunno what else to do at the moment.

Mary and Evelyn are both 6th-year female prefects of their respective houses. If you want we can do inter-house collaborative patrolling during the night.
The professors would be all discussing things inside the Headmaster's office because of the Hibredrian Black and Lilith's little escapade. So I imagine patrols would be tighter the first night.

Im sorry but I have to step out. There's alot for me to catch up on I don't want to drag down everyone else with questions.

Once the speeches have been given to the first year students they're would probably be a time-skip to some weeks into the semester, as the clubs get ongoing and the quidditch tryouts are around the corner.

Plotwise we will also get the ''trials'' of Lilith, Aella and Kettleburn as Dippet would ready itself to make his decisions regarding the event of the first day and Eleanor's dress might just be ready for Evelyn to give it to her :p
