A Spell In Parseltongue - an HP Universe Roleplay (Claim Thread)

Hartwoodshire and Hugh Hogstone (Librarians)
☙ Hartwoodshire & Hugh ❧
The Hogstone Brothers!
(And Hogwarts Librarians)

Overview

tl;dr: Twins, family of architects and enchanters, parents dead, Ravenclaws, graduated three years ago, traveled a world in turmoil in hopes of restarting the family business, needed a break, and now the new Hogwarts Librarians.

Usually referred to as "The Hogstones", "Hart & Hugh", or "THEM".

Personality

Hartwoodshire & Hugh Hogstone were born in 1921, with Hart arriving in the world a minute earlier. Hart is the cheerful, scatter-minded face of the duo. Hugh does what he can to keep his twin focused, though he rarely speaks.

Early on, the two decided to completely split the skills and knowledge they learned, mastering the ones in their respective domains and ignoring the ones that weren't. This is often a source of exasperation and fondness for those who know them. (See the Skills section for the split.)

Family & History

The Hogstones are a long line of Wizarding architects, builders, and enchanters. The Hogstone family's skills are renowned, but they are just as infamous for their frequently strange design decisions. Due to tragic accidents and the occasional vengeful clients, the Hogstones have never stayed a particularly wealthy nor large family for long.

Hart and Hugh are the last of their family. One day when they were ten, their parents never came home while working on contracts on the Continent. A family friend, Gervaise Ollivander, took them in, for which they have been forever grateful.

Since then, the twins have done the best they could, excelling in their subjects and preparing to restart the family business someday. During the day, the two would study with friends in the Library or Ravenclaw Tower. During the night, they would sneak through the halls of Hogwarts, exploring every nook and cranny and making their own renovations.

Since Graduation

After graduation three years ago, the twin brothers toured the world. They reestablished relations with old family contacts and practiced their skills.

But financially, they were running out of time. They were loath to waste their inheritance funds yet, they found little business to pursue, and they were melting through money fast merely on security while traveling. The muggle and magical wars around the world were constant obstructions.

Together, they decided they needed a break.

Hogwarts Librarians

So, the twins wrote to their old Hogwarts Professors for advice.

To their surprise, Headmaster Dippet immediately replied. The Hogwarts Librarian position had opened up during the summer. Meanwhile, he and many staff members still had fond memories of them. The twins had kept in occasional contact with them over the three years, and apparently their travels were a favorite topic of discussion in the staff room during these dark times.

Besides simply liking them personally, Dippet considered their exceedingly Ravenclaw behavior during their Hogwarts years to be enough preparation for becoming Hogwarts Librarians. And Dippet was willing to pay both of them extra to assist Professors that were busy.

Hart & Hugh gladly accepted the position.

Maybe the markets would be better once the muggle war was over, and the terror of Grindelwald was ended. And meanwhile, they could study and practice in the castle that had become a home to them during their school years. It was comforting to be back. Like in the stories their parents used to tell them, "Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it."

Worth the wait indeed :) The only small tidbits I have is to remember to be reasonable when considering what Hugh can now about muggles matters considering their background and the setting.

As an adition, since I assume they will operate as a single unit I'd single recommend taking a student, tough. If you are willing to do so but lack ideas you might want to take a look at Dovasith old characters. I got his permission to gave them to somebody else if they want them. Of course, if someone else with only one character may be interested they are more then welcome to ask for either Malfoy or Lupin :)

Thank you! ^_^

Are you implying that the knowledge Hugh mastered in Muggle Studies is often inaccurate? Hugh will be distraught. :'(

I'll stick with just Hart & Hugh for now, since I know I'll have enough time for them. And yup, they'll be operating as a unit. Though whenever they're separated, shenanigans are sure to ensue. They barely know anything of the domains that each left for the other twin to master. ^_^

Not that. The quote at the end of the entire post, so that this becomes the end of the quote from Phobos.
*deep breath*

The reason deleting it isn't working is because you have a space in the middle of your first tag.

ergo: [_/quote]

What I've been trying to tell you this entire time

Alphard would send one final forlorn look to Walburga before going to the Professor and two prefects(and dog)'s sides. He would accompany the trio towards the Gryffindor table.

"Thank you for accompanying me, Mister and Miss..." Alphard questioned, somewhat abashed he'd not paid attention to the two elder students' introductions.

Do you see the problem yet? I'm trying to make it visually clear since you're not understanding my words

You have a space inbetween the open bracket — [ — and the forward slash — / — of the end tag — [/QUOTE]

Bad enough that even 50 years latter Arthur Weasley, the greatest muggle enthusiast of them all had to ask Harry what was a rubber duck :p
I actually never understood it.
Even 10 year old kids should know enough to , well, give the Wizarding world SOME information.
Do the wizards secretly obliviate the hell out of the halfbloods and muggleborns?
Can the Wizards not READ?
Even a simple town library holds enough information.....
I know that the magic studies take up tome and all, butthis..?

I think its just that the two societies have became so different that looking at the muggle would through a magical lense just tend to distort things to an almost funny degree.

Could be.. but then, Wizarding Britain is still rather... normal.
The newspaper works and looks like an unholy cross of the Times and the Sun, they use trains, even the class society is a fu house mirrorof the normal British one, shorn of a labour class.

Why is there this incredible knowledge gap, then?
And I am not thinking about the average inbred pureblood.
I am considering persons who are PAID to know things.
And seemingly do no research whatsoever.
Hell, drop an intelligent Japanese obsever from early Meiji into Britain and give him adequate language skills and I would say in a year he would know more than the PAID SPECIALISTS know after supposedly decades of work.
I am not saying it is not so, I am just not understanding it....

To be fair they probably wouldn't have learned the function of a rubber duck from a book or during class. The telephone is a bit more confusing.
