The Chaos Colony: A riot-quest about carving out your own place in the cosmos

[X] A recovery mission into the collapsed first attempt at mining is organized to either save the trapped people if they're alive or give them proper burials if they're not.

How do our current stockpile of resources look? How much more metal, stone, wood do we have left? Do we have methods for gaining more? Do we have methods of refining them and manufacturing replacement parts and just... Stuff for our advanced weapons, and generally other pieces of decent hardware to support the colony with? Can we analyze and log the Damnation mutagen to potentially reproduce in the future?

And how are cults around the Higher-Spheres... Usually like? At least, what are some commonalities between many of them? And what is their usual impact on the societies they exist within?

The resources you have access to are in the notes
You do not have any current methods to manufacture replacement parts, nor the equipment to analyze and replicate the Damnation mutagen
No Starnet so only essential hardware for like the ship and managing power

And how are cults around the Higher-Spheres... Usually like? At least, what are some commonalities between many of them? And what is their usual impact on the societies they exist within?
This info is primarily provided by Cletus, since he got really into the cult scene back on Makeesh

Most cults of the Higher-Spheres have a favourite one (or more) which they prefer over the rest, stating it to be the greatest expression of the Protean Law's power, though there are some that worship all the Spheres together
Otherminds are usually seen as Avatars of it like angels and or demons depending on who you ask, some cults go with a more animistic approach and treat them like the spiritual manifestations of it
Cults that directly worship Otherminds aren't exactly the same as Higher-Sphere cults since they're mainly just spiritual guides, unless the Othermind directly interacts with and offers benefits for worship, and or the cult starts practicing to emulate their chosen god's power

Religions that worship the Higher-Spheres of course vary in results, cause its a big universe, but their role is commonly a combination of regular spiritual influences like our world and specialists with altered-physics
Mainly just glorified Psychic Covens

Some notable Higher-Sphere and Othermind related cults are the:

- Zennarites: Praise the Enhancement Sphere, powerful group of Resonants that brought many innovations in the field of Psychic research, sucks that they're hella misogynistic
- Pathmakers Of Kevlro: Praise a group of Otherminds that are incredibly skilled in various forms of travel, this cult is on a constant interstellar pilgrimage
- The Lightarchy: Praise the Spheres of Light Conversion & Light Traversal, have built a theocratic state across multiple stars where their citizens wander as semi-light creatures and pondering the beauty of the giant plasma orbs they live on
- The Warplets: They praise a powerful Othermind with space warping abilities, which has a host body resembling a dilapidated prototype teleportation archway distored by spatial anomalies, the followers aren't that large or influential, but are formidable, like something outta horror stories

No roll needed

Okay, you guys figured out that you don't know enough about medicine to handle the current plague right now, mainly because you deal with wounds more then invasive microorganisms, you guys can patch up a lazer holes, bullet wounds, or something poisonous biting you, making sure neither get infected too, but actually curing stuff is sorta difficult for you guys
Still a lot for being self-taught, so you wrote down some small makeshift instructional manuals for this stuff, but sadly Britzy got her hands on them and decided the name

A Practical Guide To Plugging Holes
- A bunch of Makeesh style medical techniques to quickly handle lazer wounds and bullet holes, maybe poison bullets too

Make some public schools filled with everything a growing mind needs such as how to do math, science, guns, and anything else to help the young ones learn.
Rolled a 37 = 37

You managed to make a single schoolhouse, it was decent, but there was one thing that ruined the whole project
Remember that teacher I keep mentioning gave your characters a bad education? Somehow he lived to a very old age, got into the vents of the ship, he was in there the whole trip and even when we were setting up the town, living off cigarettes and sandwhich crusts in the ships garbage (No wonder it was so easy to clean)
He finally left once he caught the scent of a place of education, and immediately made himself at home there, thats right

Mr Morris is back and he'll probably make the kids dumber

Ranchville
- Has a small public schoolhouse, domain of Mr Morris

Mr Morris
- Your old teacher, also in his 120s now
- Has committed almost every abuse of a substance possible
- Will teach your kids in the worst way possible
- Will not leave

Try to make a mine again. You just gotta try, try again and hope it works for the colony's future.

Everyone else was standing faaaaaaaar behind Britzy as she was wearing all the scraps of metal strapped to her as armour as possible, she shakily raised up a comically small pickaxe, waved goodbye to her loved ones, and swung at the cliff-face before her, preparing for the worst
But nothing happened, she simply chipped off a piece of rock, and she fell to ground, exhausted from fear, but relieved

The rest of the town quickly got to work, thus the mines were constructed and you got a steady supply of ores once people got to working

Shakey-Pick Mines
- A basic mine set up at the bottom of a cliff, producing a steady supply of ore
- Your territory

Consistent Costrus Ore Supply
- Random ores native to Costrus regularly come to you from Shakey-Pick Mines, will help with stuff that requires tons of materials or needs ores that are native to Costrus

The Cult Perfectly Normal Region shall send emissaries (mostly just Cletus) out to The Murder-Mines to bargain for trade of Stabzyte from the Siblinghood Of Toil. In exchange, offer the blessing of our god, the great and powerful Wandering-Serpent-Ate-The-Sword, and snacks. Everyone loves snacks.
Rolled a 60 - 3 + 10 = 67

Cletus managed to start up a trade agreement between Ranchville and the Siblinghood Of Toil, they very much enjoyed the snacks and agreed to consistent exchange, in return for some pre-prepared Bulbmrutt snacks in exchange for a supply of mined and properly contained Stabzyte

Cletus and the Cult celebrated, agreeing to the trade, though of course also giving their blessings in the form of little charms the younger cult members made, which the Siblinghood just used as bookmarks

The Pierce-Snack Trade Agreement
- As long as a steady supply of pre-cooked Bulbmrutt snacks is offered (Alongside the occasional little charm from the Cult Of The Knife-Worm, not necessary but they won't stop), the Siblinghood Of Toil will in return offer a steady supply of Stabzyte
- Void if you run out of Bulbmrutt for a significant amount of time
- Will help with stuff that needs Stabzyte

Some Stabzyte
- You've got a bit of Stabzyte as thanks from the Siblinghood Of Toil

The Worm-Ranchers and Gunslingers go offworld to hire a doctor
Rolled a 51 = 51

The trip was rough, some asteroids hit the ship on the way there, but it ultimately succeeded, they arrived at the world of Perossa, a Corp-World mostly know for large forests of overgrown herbs and megacities where you can get drugs for all kinds of things
Burger-flavoured pills full of all your necessary nutrients for lunch
Soda flavoured powder that melts on your tongue into the liquid that'll go great with the burger pill
Tablets that when crushed in your mouth cover your teeth in a disinfectant foam
Caffeine injectors to keep you up at work
There used to be dopamine pills but people got too hooked on them to actually slave away at their jobs so they were discontinued in favour of a diluted version that leaves you feeling empty afterword

After landing Josie and her entourage were immediately assailed by the smell of disinfectants and whatever scent comes to your nose when you enter a drug lab, while people with multicoloured veins glowing beneath their skin, tattoos symbolizing whatever their favourite drug cocktail is, and even folks with actual needles sticking out of them as some kind of accessory were walking around
With some searching they managed to find a doctor willing to leave Perossa in search of work, and was willing to permanently work for the colony in exchange for credits

You guys just had to ignore the fact his mouth was replaced with a cybernetic hookah tube, and that he listens to surfer rock set to a really loud volume

Perossa
- Corp-World of regularly harvested overgrown herb jungles and megacities filled with all kinds of advanced pharmaceutical products

Dr Marnese
- A Perossa-born doctor specializing in forms of medical treatment and science involving altered-physics from Higher-Spheres related to drugs, sanitizing, and repairing biological lifeforms
- Mouth replaced with a cybernetic hookah tube that he can still drink and breathe through
- Fan of surfer rock, one of the surviving music genres from ancient Earth, he also listens to it at a high volume

A recovery mission into the collapsed first attempt at mining is organized to either save the trapped people if they're alive or give them proper burials if they're not.
Rolled a 28 - 10 = 18

What your Gunslingers found at the bottom of Rock-Tap Caverns wasn't the first mining team, it just sat there, sobbing and surrounded by the starved bodies, already being consumed by the alien insects inhabiting the caverns
It looks like friendly old Micheal, Josie remembered when he was young and wished to be a geologist, thats why he even volunteered with the first mining attempt

His skull cracked open, blooming like a flower, and emitting beautiful light due to the Mesmerizing Shards lining the inside of the skin petals, Josie knew from the moment she saw him that Micheal was gone
She fired a shot through his heart and he fell down, finally dead, but his body continued to rapidly mutate due to Micro-Incursions, a hypnotic effect from it making the Gunslingers unwilling to destroy it, so they brought it back alongside the other bodies, the funerals were held, but Micheal's was kept around above ground thanks to the hypnotic effect it produced removing all desire to bury it out of sight

Exquisite Corpse
- The deceased body of Micheal Farris
- Aligned with the Mesmerizing Sphere, head is blooming beautifully and lined with Mesmerizing Shards
- Has a hypnotic effect due to its sheer beauty, making it difficult for those under its effects to destroy and or hide it away

Are any of the Gunslingers augmented with cybernetic or biological augmentations? And would these be something they were modified with, or is it from their ancestry?

Also, has humanity ever encountered any sapient species besides Otherminds? I mean, there are the Shelleys, but are there other sapient nonhumans that humanity has encountered but weren't responsible for making or anything?

Very tempted to make a temple out of Stabzyte. I know in my mind it is a poor idea, but my heart is enthralled by such a concept. A building where you slip and that's the end of your story.

I mean on one hand, with the track record of these things, it would give this an ending at least. On the other hand, oh dear, the Gunslingers colony ends so soon...

And this has given me the bad idea of potentially wanting to make a gaiden quest or a quest inspired by this. But I need to work on my own Riot Quest too, so... Gah.

None of them are augmented, they're just ridiculously good at shooting people to death

Humanity has encountered multiple species, they got their own galaxies with crazy shit going on, it is more difficult to not hear of them, like...
- The Kyinmaru: Gigantic reptilian aliens reminiscent of Kaiju from ancient earth movies, small in number, and their politics is more akin to wrestling drama with traditional no-weapons duels to solves issues between important figures if neither is willing to be part of a intelligent debate
- The Tol: Lanky line covered 4-armed humanoids with craniums covered in orifices, which they can plug stuff into for easy interfacing, some plug flowers into themselves to better align with Higher-Spheres of biology, most plug machinery into themselves for convenience, fashion, and or whatever occupation they may have
- The Mezzmi: Everyone is unsure what they look like, what cultures and nations exist among them, and their general opinion on the rest of the universe, what people do know is that they wield a bunch of lobotomized Otherminds as a slave army, and wish for everyone to leave them alone
- The Folks: The myriad of alien species across human space that didn't advance fast enough to avoid mankind calling dibs on their worlds
- The Garv: 2 words, good boys

[] Get training on how to be an educator, preferably a better one than Mr Morris (not that that's hard).

I'm sufficiently annoyed at the outcome to want to lock it in early.
Completely understandable

Don't you hate it when a old teacher of yours lives in your Starship undetected like some education-system failure xenomorph?
And also when said teacher enters the schoolhouse you recently built and uses it as their personal hive

Annoys the hell outta me when it happens

1D10 rolled a 5/8/6/7/4

First
A person with Crankus-Cough just assaulted multiple people that heckled him during the underground fight-club, using a rock, the people lived but the man then started violently coughing and crying when he was taken to his holding cell in the town halls back
A pair of kids with Crankus-Cough that were scolded for playing too close to the woods also had to be forced to clean up after vandalizing the house of the old woman who told them off

These are the only big developments, but domestic disputes are slowly becoming more common thanks to the cough, you better be careful

Second
Someone did something... quite dumb, one of the slightly more learned residents of Ranchville got drunk thanks to Britzy talking them into it, which made them think it was a smart idea to mess with the Damnation-Made tools they were entrusted with, for the sake of SCIENCE!
By the next morning, Britzy woke up naked except for the underwear on her head, in a house she didn't recognize, like every Friday night

Then she turned around and so Medosa, the local smart girl who she convinced to get drunk last night, with multiple of the mutagen needles in places I don't wish to mention, mutated into a tall red and white figure, her head with a pair of curled horns, and her shoulders covered with them
Her mere presence feels dangerous as she gets up and grabs her hangover suffering head, with a clawed hand

4 eyes blinked the sleep away and Medosa looked at Britzy
"Do I have something on my face?"
"No but you look like something out of Cletus' secret erotica that I read without him knowing"
"A BUFF ANGEL MAN!?"
"Nah, the demons, and HAH! I knew I wasn't the only one that read his stuff"

Britzy then went to pat Medosa on the back as she was panicking about how she mutated herself and ended up looking like one of those freaks from Damnation
She began freaking out, breathing crimson biological napalm out of her mouth and accidentally burning the curtains, a small piece of it hit Britzy and she began rolling around screaming as if her whole body was on fire, when it was just a small burn

Josie came over with a bucket, doused the flames, and ended up grounding the both of them

Medosa Hork
- A learned Worm-Rancher, a nerd you may even say, mutated by Pain-Application aligned mutagen
- Good with little gadgets and tools, mainly Worm-Ranching machinery
- Easily susceptible to peer pressure, specifically Britzy
- Tall, red, muscular, has curling horns on head, and on her shoulders, also 4 eyes
- Mouth can release biological napalm that brings great pain biological beings 10 times more then regular fire, the fire it emits even likes to fly towards potential targets, she can produce enough to fill an entire lake if she wishes
- Very strong thanks to her mutant strength, can rip a wooden door of its hinges easily

Three
Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!
The first marriage in Ranchville just occured!
The eldest son of the Nerro family and the eldest daughter of the Patarvi family got together in matrimony, it was officially blessed by the Cult Of The Knife-Worm, and it was considered legally binding by the Gunslingers and Josie

Everyone partied hard
Cletus and his cultists busted out some funky disco moves
Britzy flirted with the wedding cake
Josie caught the wedding bouquet and then fed it to a worm
Mr Morris burst out of the cake naked, much to Britzy's horror
And Medosa was doing her best to not knock down any decorations with her horns (She failed)
Generally a pretty good time

Four
Some Wubbles have left the woods and... made themselves at home in our town, they're mainly just living in the attics, and helping out mainly with the stuff they actually understand, like hunting and foraging, apparently these ones like the shape of our shelters

They also joined in the Ranchville Fight-Club, and brought idea a couple meal recipes with them, like burnt Hzznits on a stick

Ranch-Loving Wubbles
- Bunch of Wubbles that like the shape of Barns and other such things
- Experienced in hunting and tracking

Five
Cletus temporarily borrowed the ship, flew to the Shattered Blade for a quick religious pilgrimage, then flew back with a cool sword that was glowing purple, his eyes wide with... surprise I guess
"What the hell happened!?"
Cletus gave her a look as if he saw the abyss and it spoke "I saw my god gutting other gods in a endless fractal garden, I saw acts of unspeakable cruelty as it pierced their minds with a thousand blades and separated their atoms across the dimensional winds"

He went back to normal, smiled and swung his sword around like a child with a new toy "Also check out this shit I found on the floor there! The sermons are gonna look SOOOOO cool now!"
With a slash he cut a tear open in space time to the void of space, he quickly pointed the blade at it before he could get sucked through

Josie and Cletus both looked dumbfounded at the blade
"Did not know it could do that when I took it, my bad, but now it is way cooler"

Dimension-Saber
- A blade made of a strange purple metal, capable of cutting holes in space for things to go through

"Blublublublublub"
Cletus was sitting with a newly arrived Wubble member of the colony discussing the theological specifics of the Knife-Worm faith, somehow despite the language barrier
"Hhmmm... the Dimension-Saber being some sort of symbol for marching onwards valiantly and carving your path into the future with the guidance of the Knife-Worm does seem quite plausible, but I'm more thinking it could be some a artifact to be traditionally passed down to future leaders"

Britzy walked over sipping from a cup labled Ignorance's Bathwater and asked "Cletus, how the hell are you discussing religious theory and potential new cultural traditions with a species that doesn't even share the same language as us"
"FAITH! And guessing, lots of guessing" He turned back to the Wubble "Am I guessing well?"

"Blublublub!"
Cletus looked smug "They probably mean yes"

Choose a single course of action each

[] Have the Gunslingers check how the Shelleys are doing

[] Josie as the unofficial role model for most of the colony, is sent on a diplomatic mission to get herself acquainted with the political situation in the local sector

[] Train a educator that is better then Mr Morris

[] Write-In

[X] Remove the unjustly persistent and somehow still alive Mr. Morris out of the education system, by any means necessary. And help a bit with getting a superior replacement.

[X] The Cult of the great and powerful Knife-Worm shall create a temple shrine of pure Stabzyte in the image of the Shattered Blade. Our faith (and lots of cushions) shall protect us from being harmed by the Stabzyte.
